The Morning Report 4/20/17

faces.jpg

Good morning, kids. Well, the big news is the exit of Bill O'Reilly from Fox News after a 21-year run pretty much at the top. I used to sort of like him, and then grew tired of him, but aside from my personal feelings, it's a shame he had to go this way. Beyond the surface-level details of what he may or may not have done, the undercurrent of internal Fox power struggles as well as the fodder for bashing Republicans and conservatives are the other angles worthy of exploration. In other news, Jason Chaffetz has somewhat surprisingly decided not to seek re-election in 2018, which means Egg McMuffin will Tossoff his hat into the ring and become our savior. Oh joy, oh bliss. I've also linked to an article about Bill Gates warning about the dangers of a bioterrorism attack. I think his angle is more about shystering government money for pandemic prevention, but this kind of a threat is nightmare fuel, for sure. I had a long conversation with a doctor friend of mine and he basically told me in shocking detail just how easy it would be for terrorists to kill millions of us. Suffice it to say, I will not be saying any more on that subject publicly. Lastly, there was a gigantic SMOD that came within a cosmic red mish hair's distance from the Earth yesterday, and whizzed by us at 73,000 mph. One of these days, boy. Anyway, links from around the world, across the nation and up your street. Have a better one and remain blessed.

5 Question I asked in the ONT:

So, Gofundme allows Moldylocks to do a fundraiser to cover medical bills
from injuries she got engaging in illegal activity? She's a member of a
movement which specializes in committing acts of physical violence.

I seem to remember GFM saying that people couldn't collect from illegal activities (back when it was Pizza Shops and wedding photogs).

All kinds of ways of getting money from China and elsewhere, and supposedly the US and others were putting an end to it all. That was several years ago....Traffic in Pyongyang is much heavier that it use to be, where does all that oil come from for gasoline. I wasn't aware that NK was covered in oil wells...so many questions.

93 Today's pic is Marion Davies, onetime Ziegfeld Girl:

http://tinyurl.com/lgoo6r9

and, as the picture notes, a "friend" of Mr William Randolph Hearst. The newspaper magnate doted on Davies and would have married her, but his wife refused to grant a divorce and Hearst himself, though ruthless in business matters, never could bring himself to employ the legal strategies that would have ended his marriage.

Hearst and Davies (with Mrs Hearst's knowledge, if not acceptance) remained lovers for the rest of Hearst's life, which, sadly, robbed Davies of the career she might have had. Though cursed with a stutter, she was a very popular silent performer, loved by her costars and crews as well as the public.

http://tinyurl.com/lnbq9y4

Davies was a gifted comedienne; her 1928 Show People is a wonderfully funny and heartwarming movie and well worth your time.

http://tinyurl.com/lo27gbe

Unfortunately, Hearst had no sense of humor and didn't like people laughing at (as he saw it) his lovely inamorata. He created a movie company especially for Davies - Cosmopolitan Pictures - and had her put in endless "historical" films where she was swaddled in hoopskirts and gowns to within an inch of her life. The pictures were expensive, luxurious and yuuuge. . .but were almost all financial disasters.

http://tinyurl.com/n6zr9by

But Davies accepted it with a shrug. "Old Droopy Drawers" loved her and cared for her and she, too, loved and cared for him, and so perhaps that was all that mattered in the end.

I see that Venezuela has seized the GM plant there. GM has been in Venezuela for nearly 70 years. Yeah, GM can go to court and the like but that's really not going to matter a hill of beans.

159 On a related note, today is Hitler's birthday.

Which reminds me I need to get back to the new Hitler bio I've been reading, Hitler: Ascent, 1889-1939. He's Chancellor and the Reichstag has burned, but the Night of the Long Knives has yet to happen. Dense, but a good read. As Abe Lincoln would say, 'If you like that sort of thing, then this is the sort of thing you'd like.'

I found a title that takes the Hitler subject from an interesting perspective: A comparison of the significant academic/historical studies/theories for his rise. "Explaining Hitler," by Ron Rosenbaum. Doesn't cover much of the known bio information, but digs through the different leading historians and their theories (Kershaw's "working towards the Fuhrer," Alan Bullock, Lanzmann, etc.) Pretty interesting stuff.

185 I saw a thing yesterday where a bunch of left-wing lawyers are suing the government for "proof" that Trump was wiretapped.

Good luck with that, assholes.

They only did it because they know damned good and well that their "suit" will be kicked out--which they will promptly crow from the rooftops is "proof" that Trump lied.

And that will be the media headlines as well.

Not one thing about how for the suit to proceed, the government would have to reveal classified information.

They'll even go so far as claiming that Trump "shut down" the lawsuit. Because he refused to de-classify the info.

What's going to be amusing is, these dumbasses are playing under the old rules, where the R sits there and takes this shit and lets the Dems play their games.

Trump don't play by those rules.

They may find themselves facing charges for attempting to illegally obtain classified material; I'm sure that is a crime.

Many in NH have been pushing this hard. NH doesn't have a VA medical center. So veterans have to travel to Mass. or Maine. But the VA has been ferociously fighting this and making it very difficult for NH veterans to get the care they need from local providers.
This is why the VA needs to be 90% shut down. Put our veterans on the same plan as our congress critters. Shutter the VA hospitals except for a couple of major ones that specialize in combat injuries (San Antonio, etc.)Close the hospital, you eliminate jobs. Eliminate the jobs and hopefully you can bypass the union cartels preventing some of the VA miscreants from being fired.

240 123 CVS seems to be attacking the convenience goods that bring in the general buyer foot traffic.

If they think they will get by on pharmacy and OTC drug purchases, I think they completely misunderstand their own business model.
==============

CVS does a good food stamp business in this area.

I also think that if their foot traffic business declines, they will move to a model wherein they become a pharmacy supplier for home care, home health and hospice organizations.

Right now, most of those care providers contract with large medical service companies who provide the drugs and DME. There are a handful of companies that have sprung up who position themselves as middlemen between the health care provider and a local pharmacy. This is supposed to cut down on long delivery times and other inconveniences to patients and families since they would be receiving their meds/DME from a local store.

Our agency is moving to this model and it's a disaster. Most of these local pharmacies don't have the drugs our patients use or if they do, they are expired. But, someone in management hear got a hair up their ass about our pharm provider and the provider finally said, "Fuck you, we don't need your business."

273 The "free trade" opinion piece written as "news" is a piece of tripe. It is saying Trump started a trade war and now he is finding out other countries can do the same. Because he promised to renegotiate trade agreements to be more fair to America, (but we all know he is saying he is going to stop free trade and start a trade war). Google Canadian Milk Imports, they already have 200 to 300% tariffs on imported milk products. This is free trade?

If NAFTA or any other free trade agreement was about free trade, they would say we can sell anything to you and you can sell anything to us. Why then do the agreements run to thousand of pages?

I think the first clue the story was not complete was the mention that "heavily filtered" milk will be blocked. What does that mean? I have never heard of it and the story certainly does not explain.

"Anti-Trump" opinion piece running as news. My rant for the day. Steps off soap box.

Or your Mother's house!

Thoughts like "Green energy is cool!" and "You can't hug a child with nuclear arms!"

And if you finger-paint with Mother Nature's monthly bright red paint in a secret place like say the back of your shoe closet-

Posted by: FenelonSpoke at April 20, 2017 08:51 AM

IIRC, some high-schoolers in Marin (on the north side of the Golden Gate Bridge) back in the day would meet at 4:20 p.m. after/outside of school to smoke some marijuana. "420" became a code for marijuana, which spread.
Some pothead then realized that April 20th was '4/20', and that became a thing. If you're truly down with the cause, you light one up at 4:20 p.m. today.

Of course, 4:20 p.m. properly expressed is 1620 hours. Wonder why nobody get up at 0420 hours to burn one?

330 I had always heard 420 sprang from the ideal time between the end of classes and the start of evening part-time jobs, for college students to smoke up.

This morning on the radio I heard a version of the California students story, but it was southern Cali, not Marin County, and they were college students, not high school. And one of them grew up to roadie for The Dead, which is how 420 became A Thing.

In other words, nobody really seems to know for sure.

One of my crazy, mixed-up dreams is that the GOP gets a Senate supermajority and does some combination of the following:

1. Finally, at long last puts a stake in Ocare
2. Completely rewrites the immigration laws to conform with those in Canada and/or Oz, which are actually sane, and
3. Decertifies whoever it is that represents bureaucrats (AFSCME?) and completely rewrites the Civil Service Act.

Of course I'll be more likely to share a post-orgasm smoke with Kate Upton than any of that but a guy needs dreams.

She did pose nekkid when she was younger and still brunette and (unlike some youthful celebrity nudes) they are very high quality and high resolution.

I disagree. I think leftists, Nazis, and Islamists are indocrinated into it and find it beautiful, as they find all their other grotesque doctrines. I think it is trained into people, even though eventually you can't erase it. Kind of like child abuse creates homosexuals who cannot change their orientation.

372 I think the left and the media (but I repeat myself) reacted with outrage at Mike Pence's personal morality standards because they realize that he had completely closed off their favorite line of attack.

O'Reilly, and anyone in power or the public eye, should have known that you will have enemies, and that those enemies will ALWAYS be sifting through every detail of your private life in order to take you down, just because they hate you. That's a fact of life. So many people, even powerful so-called conservative people like BOR appear to have forgotten that there was a REASON for all those rules of personal morality that previous generations held onto - those weren't just silly things they did because they were so old-fashioned and stupid. They are the rules you follow every second of every day because, if you live that way, you leave your enemies no easy avenue of attack.

O'Reilly gave his enemies all the ammunition they needed - and for that, one has to say that his fall is HIS fault, because he thought he was big and powerful and could get away with any kind of sleazy womanizing he wanted to try. Sure they would have let a Dem or liberal get away with it, but you KNEW that already, didn't you??? Our side doesn't get the luxury of playing by their rules, that's just life today. Deal with it.

If he would have lived his life like Mike Pence, no one could have laid a glove on him.

375 " Nevertheless, it's not just Democratic spin to say that a remarkable political transformation is happening in Georgia's 6th District: an affluent, highly educated suburb of Atlanta. Nearly overnight, progressive organizing has become the center of social life for thousands of previously disengaged people in the area. Whether or not the movement is enough to swing this election, Republicans may never again be able to win local offices here without a fight. And the intense activity in the 6th District is a sign of how the anti-Trump resistance is building a new, locally rooted progressive infrastructure nationwide."
