The Morning Report 4/19/17

Boid.jpg

Good morning, kids. Well, the good news is that Ossoff failed to win the special election yesterday and will head for a runoff in June against the GOP candidate Karen Handel. The better news is not only will she likely win, but the Left has poured millions into a House race in the hopes of creating a meme that winning would spell immediate and permanent doom for PDT. More unknown motives from out-of-the-blue, lone wolf blitzkriegs, as the FBI wastes its time investigating terrorism threats in all 50 states. As for the situation with North Korea, status quo but I've linked to an alarming piece in American Thinker about the NorK's growing ability to hurl an EMP on us. Anyway, links from around the world, across the nation and up your street. Have a better one and remain blessed.

57 So last night while waiting for the meds to kick in, I watched Errol Flynn in 1942s Gentleman Jim a biopic about the legendary boxer James J. Corbett, who defeated the "Boston Strong Boy" John L. Sullivan to become world heavyweight champion in 1892.

It's a pleasant movie, though nothing spectacular. Flynn is very creditable in his ring scenes, which is only natural, as he was a boxer before becoming an actor. He's got an easy, breezy charm which, in another actor, would come off as annoying arrogance.

Character actors Ward Bond and William "Fred Mertz" Crawley star as Sullivan and as Corbett's manager, respectively. Alan Hale, Sr (the Skipper's dad) stars as Pop Corbett, a walking, blarney-talking Ould Oirish cliché. And the lovely Alexis Smith is the society belle who loves to hate - and eventually hates to love - Corbett.

A cute, entertaining picture and a solid offering from Warner Brothers. Worth watching, IMO, for a pleasant hour-and-a-half.

I'd link to the trailer, but tinyurl seems not to be working today. Perhaps later.

As I have always maintained even since before the election, PDT's greatest obstacle will be the GOP-establishment. He has been phenomenal in terms of executive actions as well as just his mere presence in boosting the economy and psyche of "@RealAmerica." (I just thought that up). But he cannot get things done legislatively that the GOP sees as a threat to the Leviathan, whether Trump is political/ideological animal or not. The influx of people like Gary Cohn as well as the influence of the kids is not a positive.

But, we are hearing good things from Mark Meadows vis a vis Obamacare repeal/replace. Unfortunately, tax reform seems to be being sabotaged. And the Institutional Left is now in open insurrection against the will of the people.

On the whole, I feel good because Hillary Clinton will never be President of the United States of America.

I just see the $8.3 million, the energy, and the time, all wasted to win in a potentially winnable special election.

Not only is that $8.3 million that can't be used elsewhere, but, especially if Republicans get their shit together for the runoff, it represents further demoralized Democrats.

They could have led a tough fight in GA, not gone nuts for it, and settled with a loss. Instead, they bought into the idea that it was in the bag. It's going to make getting out volunteers and raising money slightly harder in the future than otherwise.

Yeah, I always think it's a mistake going with the name which leftists give themselves.

"Progressives" for instance.

"Antifa" let's them get away with labeling themselves as "anti-fascist" and their opponents (normal people) as "fascists"

-all the while committing fascist acts against normal people.

Plus, and a big bonus in their minds, it's links their "cause" to the "oppression of the 3rd World Palestinian people".

Just ugh all around.

Surely, the Horde can come up with a name for them as catchy and easy to say as "Antifa" that labels them correctly.

I thought maybe "fasciflakes".

Future James Bond chase scenes are going to be a real hoot.
I was deeply offended the first time he hopped into something (oh Christ, it wasn't a Saab, was it?) and had to chirp some antitheft device before roaring off. Starting a real Aston Martin was challenge enough.

The real James Bond, naturally, drove a used Bentley Continental that was rebuilt from a wreck. Had to make a friend at "the works" to afford it. Real James Bond was not wealthy, just had a good expense account when traveling for work. Used to worry about airliners falling apart, of all things.

I could go on and on about how BJ Clinton used the OKC bombing for his own purposes. It was particularly frustrating that once they had McVeigh and Nichols, he forced the FBI to shut down the investigation because he was determined to win a Nobel Peace Prize for peace in the Middle East and he was afraid of the facts that might come out about who financed the bombing, McVeigh's trips to Muslim strongholds in the Philippines, etc.

327 I hope Trump is just considering political aspects of how to reject the Paris Treaty crap. If he is doing it as a favor to Ivanka it would be a pitiful weakness.

Ivanka and Jared are Democrats. They may help the Donald in maintaining a certain comfort zone in the middle of wolves, but if they also/instead act as leftist "agents" that is trouble.

A more typical Trump tactic would be to take the more extreme position on the other side. "Carbon" (they mean clean life-giving CO2) has greened up arid areas around the world.

"The Greening of America (and the world) happens via more CO2 ... green is good, right?" All CO2 "scrubbing" is wasteful/destructive, inspired by enemy action. It is at best a bad redistribution (to evil elite mostly) plan, but really just one more weapon designed to cripple the West.

I do, too. I haven't seen much evidence of Nork technical expertise aside from counterfeiting sawbucks and synchronized color-placard-waving. That they've managed to get two satellites in orbit is not nothing (though even money says they were foreign-built and probably foreign-launched); that they could successfully detonate a warhead in space seems like a stretch. My hunch is no better than the hunches in the article, but it doesn't seem likely, going on past performance...

I have not been able to eat bologna since a day back in about 1963, on a cross country family road trip. Mom, Dad, seven boys and two dachshunds in a Plymouth station wagon. Somewhere along the way at a roadside picnic table Mom served us our usual bologna on white bread sandwich for lunch. One of my brothers apparently slipped one of the dogs the bologna out of his sandwich. About a hundred miles down the road you guessed it. Dog barfed. Right on my brother's bare foot. And there, for all the world to see was the stringy red rind of the bologna looped around my brother's big toe.

I'll take a pass on bologna thank you.

344 Today is the birthday of silent star and Ziegfeld Girl Lina Basquette:

http://tinyurl.com/l8blnsv

Born in 1907, her first marriage was at the age of 18 to Sam Warner, founder of the eponymous studio. After his death, she spent years fighting with the remaining Warner brothers for a widow's settlement as well as custody of her child with Sam, and the fight resulted in an unofficial Hollywood blacklisting.

Her most famous role came in C.B. DeMille's The Godless Girl of 1929, in which she played the leader of a gang of high school atheists. According to Basquette, the film was a favorite of Adolf Hitler, who, she said, penned her a fan letter calling her his favorite movie star.

According to Basquette, she was offered a contract in 1937 by German studio UfA and, once arriving in Germany, she was whisked off to Berchtesgaden to meet Der Fuhrer, who promptly made a pass at the lovely lady and was rewarded with a kick in the groin. She then followed up the insult by telling Hitler her grandfather was a Jew.

In her later years, she was a breeder and shower of Great Danes.

393 So, the Politico article about Ossoff had an interesting point:

This failure to capture the seat outright is straining the very fragile bonds of unity at the top of the Democratic organization. You can imagine the invective that is being saved for when the guy loses in June (God willing).

Elections are largely decided on factors larger than simple campaigns (like the economy, presidential approval ratings, overall perception of the party in power), but this sort of party infighting type stuff does affect the margins and things like candidate recruitment. The longer the party is fighting itself over things like tactics, while also losing elections, the harder it will be to come together to form an effective counter in 2018.

Hmm...hope...It's got a funny taste.

That's because Hillary has had a entourage who's followed her from job to job. People like Cheryl Mills and Huma Abedin owe almost their entire career to the Clintons, or Hillary in particular. They're bitter because they have not only lost out on their assumed key presidential staff post, but their sole/primary employer's career is over. 399 395 That's because Hillary has had a entourage who's followed her from job to job. People like Cheryl Mills and Huma Abedin owe almost their entire career to the Clintons, or Hillary in particular. They've put in decades on the assumption that it would eventually pay off. And then it didn't. They're bitter because they have not only lost out on their assumed key presidential staff post, but their sole/primary employer's career is over. Where do they go now, when Clinton Inc. is crumbling, DC is Trumpland and the only jobs on their resume are Hillary-related?

I know from personal experience the rank and file Democrat politician doesn't believe half the crap he spouts. But the vote has become a virtue signal, not an actual vote. From what I've seen, it seems unlikely that they can get her a Senate seat this cycle. Too many senators who seem unwilling to step aside for the third iteration (that's obviously worse than the first two) of the Clinton dynasty.

I predict an easy House seat in 2018.

Although, imagine if they screw it up.

They convince some backbencher (in a D+8 district) to step aside with a plum spot in the DNC or something. The obvious nepotism turns off the progressive left in that district who rally around a socialist candidate. The socialist ends up pulling 10% and the Republican sacrificial lamb wins.

It'd be hilarious.

I don't care where DJT spends his time, he's a Type Super A+++ who gets more done before 8 AM each day than Barky/ValJar did in a month. As for Melania staying in NYC to let Barron finish his school year, I say good on her because had Mooch done the same thing, the Left would be pushing for the Catholic Church to canonize her.

Until DJT spends as much money commuting to any of his properties as the $400,000,000,000 that Barky gave to Iran, I think the Left should shut the fuck up. Joni too, I sent her money for her election and now she ain't getting any more from me.

451 The Democrat Party, much more than the Republicans, has become captured by the ambitions and desires of their particular leader.

It was Clinton property for years, then Obama property, and the party had its direction and control from the strongman at the helm... the Clintons turned it into a graft and enemy-destroying machine, Obama turned it into a machine of radical Leftist racio-identity politics. The party was a mirror to its leader.

The Republican Party isn't like that-- it has its own, independent identity and exists separately from the Bushes (and it's failed candidates as well).

This leaves this party without a lot of structure or direction on its own. It leaves it a husk as the focus of a leader, pursuing their own directions, drives the party.

The Clinton shakedown machine requires that there be a Clinton in high office or threatening to be in high office at all times. TheJamesMadison is probably right that it's too early for Chelsea now, which is why Hillary has to make noise about running in order to shake down those donors (especially the foreign ones).

Posted by: Caesar North of the Rubicon at April 19, 2017 09:40 AM (jK8Z7)

462 The Venezuela story reads like Hillary's "gun control" (restricting supply, universal registration, buybacks and ultimately confiscating the remainder) + Obama's dream for a "national civilian security force."

Even the rationale used by Maduro would fit right in with current, Democratic party talking points ("safety, order, civilization and for-the-children" doncha know).

Reagan, God rest his soul, was certainly correct that freedom is always, only one generation away from extinction. This is why we have, and must always defend the Second Amendment.

And for all those feckers who dismiss the examples of history, and the rest of the world even as it exists today, that "it could never happen here" that some thug would seek to arm the forces of repression and take away the ability of free people to defend themselves, I would tell . you to give up ever caring whether anyone is a "Nazi" again. Why would any lefty care about "Nazis" or "neo nazis" or "racists" or anything they see as the creeping potential for resurgent, 1930s style fascism, while just waving their hand at the very real replication of current, socialist tyrannies as they now exist all over the world , by saying "it can't happen here."

It can and does happen everywhere, all the time. Existing in a (relatively) free country is the world-historical exception. Drop your guard for a minute, historically-speaking, and we revert to the world-historical mean, which is all Maduros all the time.

463 I don't think it'll dissolve the Democratic Party, just that it's going to make it harder for the Democratic Party to come together and act as an effective counter. We'll see the left's versions of Christine O'Donnels losing winnable races while their activist base continues to turn off more of middle America.

The counter is not just the Dems. They have the MSM there to run interference and a milquetoast GOPe that's happy to play along.

Then there's the judiciary.....

I'm saying underestimating the Dems comes with a lot of peril.

True. I'm cautiously optimistic, though.

The Democratic Party seems to be a bunch of client groups that want different, and often, contradictory things. It's easy enough to keep a coalition like that together when you're in power and can dole out goodies. Out of power, though?

Also...the judiciary is in the opening stages of getting a rather large makeover. Trump has 100+ federal justices to appoint, and he's using the Federalist Society as the first filter.

Well think about it. If all it takes is about $8 Million per house seat to take out the Repubs then that means with a paltry $1.9B (with a "B") the Dems can take control of the house, or at least come within .2% of doing it! Add in about $10 Mill per senate seat to unseat the Repubs there to add on another $80M or so and that is a nice healthy +$2B right there - that is, of course, assuming the Dems spend $0.00 on any of their house seats up in 2018. You know what? Let's encourage the Dims to go for it - MM hmm!Now Georgia: Dist 06: Wake up! LA and New York City are trying to foist off a dweeby liberal, Al-Jazeera anti-American on you! One reading of history says that they are favored in 2018 because presidents' parties tend to do badly in midterm elections.

However, they also know that they have to work for it, provide examples of success in order to drive further fundraising and volunteering. In order to create the narrative of the rebuke election, they can't just point to history books, but to concrete examples.

It's been a bunch of client groups at ultimate odds with each other for 40 years. I've noticed that what keeps it coalesced in the off years is the prospect of various factions gaining more influence in the party. So the Dems lose a national election, there's some navel examination, and some factions gain a little more prominence in the party, perhaps at the expense of another faction. That displaced faction regroups and starts politicking in the party again. Lather rinse repeat.

They were supposed to be on the permanent decline in 1980. Again in 2000. Hasn't happened.

The Ryan run House has given us zero of what they promised. McConnell has barely been better.

That's the problem.

Paul Ryan is the lowest rated SoH in recent memory for good reason.

The Ryan led House seems to be aiming for a loss of seats. Probably, to control Trump.

Having to follow the Democrat agenda puts Ryan and the GOPe back in their comfort zone.

Primarying these losers out would help, but as we've seen that's hard to do once they're attached to DC teats.
