FaceBook Killer Kills Self After Police Chase

I wasn't a fan of his first killing, but he's really showed me something since then.

Erie police have confirmed the suicide in Erie on Tuesday of Steve Stephens, the Cleveland resident suspected of fatally shooting a Cleveland man on Sunday and posting video of the slaying on Facebook.

Stephens died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound while driving a white Ford Fusion near Buffalo Road and Downing Avenue around 11:10 a.m., police said.

Just when I thought this guy couldn't do anything dumber...

By the way, additional stories released over the past couple of days make it plain he killed this complete stranger as some kind of asshole "I'll make her notice me with my murders" plan. He made the victim say the name "Joy Lane" and then said something like "You made me do this, Joy." (See Update/Correction below.)

Oh yeah, that'll show her. I bet she's thinking right now, "Gee, what a great guy. I sure missed out by not jumping harder on that. I may never get the chance to know another psychotic murderer. Oh well -- if it weren't for bad luck, I'd have none at all. Sigh."

Another asshole gone, and good riddance.

Update/Correction: I found the article I meant to cite, but couldn't find it again when I posted, the one that talks about this asshole's major asshole complex.

It's at the National Laughingstock, so I wouldn't advise the click, but here's the part I was thinking of:

In the latest case, Stephens clearly hoped a specific person -- identified by him as Joy Lane, which some outlets have reported was a former romantic partner -- would watch him kill an elderly man. Stephens directly addressed Joy in the video.

Ogloff said that Stephens addressing Joy, "presumably someone he was angry with," suggested he was seeking a feeling of empowerment. He committed a murder and "wanted her to pay for it" through the guilt she might feel.

As you can see, my memory of this passage was garbled -- I thought Stephens said this stuff, while most of this is just informed speculation by an "expert." However, he did reference this poor woman and also announce to his victim "This is happening to you because of Joy Lane," or words to that effect.

I think it's a question of trying to be in control. Like "OK, well this person pissed me off, which is a big mistake...and I'll show HIM!" Killing the target of his ire won't scratch that itch....he wants him/her to suffer for it.

I guess an analogy will be in road rage. You've all seen drivers get cut off, however inadvertently, and they they try to make up for it by driving like idiots for some time after, like "no one ELSE is going to fuck with me."

It doesn't make sense to *us* but it makes sense to a sociopathic/psychotic personality since their logic works differently.

Uh, in a word, no. First, the "Ameri" prefix is commonly used for good things, because the connotation is that America is good.

Second, "AntiFa" is what they call themselves, and what they've come to be known as. Any rational person knows the name is ironic, and that they are literally Blackshirts. Trying to "rename" such a movement is doomed to failure. Sort of reminds of the attempt during WWI to rename sauerkraut as "victory cabbage".

As pointed out previously, deinstitutionalization came about because of a Supreme Court ruling in 1975 (O'Connor v. Donaldson) essentially mandated it.

Leftists have been claiming forever that the nutjobs were turned loose by conservatives as a cost-saving measure, and that's bullshit. No, he wasn't, and it wasn't a trend or policy.

As pointed out previously, deinstitutionalization came about because of a Supreme Court ruling in 1975 (O'Connor v. Donaldson) essentially mandated it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O%27Connor_v._Donaldson

Leftists have been claiming forever that the nutjobs were turned loose by conservatives as a cost-saving measure, and that's bullshit. I despise internet ads, since the days of the 300 baud dial up and the first pop up ads with pictures that swamped your phone line and you never got to see the web page.

Even before that, back in the day when Mission Impossible was a TV series and you got 5 minutes of story, and 7 minutes of commercials. Congress had to pass a law to stop it. Currently, an hour long TV episode is 46 minutes and 14 minutes commercials.

Yup. The deinstitutionalization movement came about because of the abuses in institutionalizing people. Since Americans aren't so good with that doing moderate measures thingy, the pendulum swung completely the other way and now the guy who won't take his anti-psychotic meds and who is living outside in the middle of winter has to actually try to hurt someone before he can be helped.

241 As I understand it, Reagan's gubernatorial administration began experimental programs with deinstitutionalization and "care in the community" during his first term.

There was a vocal segment of the psychiatric community in the state who were pushing this as good public policy. So, the thinking went, let's let out some of the better patients from the asylum population and see how they do. We can always haul them back in.

And, yes, it was also driven to some degree by cost issues.

Reagan gave an interview at one point describing his dismay upon arriving to take up the reins in Sackamanura, and realizing that the departing Brown administration (Moonbeam's father) had completely fudged the books. And that despite Brown's confident assurances that CA's public finances were stable, what was actually going on was a disorganized insolvent fiscal disaster. Deinstitutionalization was one of the desperate measures then resorted to as part of righting the ship.

I suspect that had it not been for the adverse court rulings that re-institutionalization of head cases would have started to become a thing in the 1970s. But the black-robed radicals intervened and overruled, making what had been meant as temporary pilot programs into the new permanent status quo.

The mental hospitals were emptied out as part of the Great Society programs.

Last sane Democrat Daniel Patrick Moynihan kept the ink pen LBJ used to sign the law on his wall. As a warning against government overreach and unintended consequences.

From Wiki:

"O'Connor v. Donaldson, 422 U.S. 563 (1975), was a landmark decision in mental health law. The United States Supreme Court ruled that a state cannot constitutionally confine a non-dangerous individual who is capable of surviving safely in freedom by themselves or with the help of willing and responsible family members or friends. Since the trial court jury found, upon ample evidence, that petitioner did so confine respondent, the Supreme Court upheld the trial court's conclusion that petitioner had violated respondent's right to liberty.[1][2][3]

...

A finding of "mental illness" alone cannot justify a State's locking a person up against his will and keeping him indefinitely in simple custodial confinement. Assuming that that term can be given a reasonably precise content and that the "mentally ill" can be identified with reasonable accuracy, there is still no constitutional basis for confining such persons involuntarily if they are dangerous to no one and can live safely in freedom.

Next up fire starting and bed wetting. The three signs of a sociopath.

263 A finding of "mental illness" alone cannot justify a
State's locking a person up against his will and keeping him
indefinitely in simple custodial confinement. Assuming that that term
can be given a reasonably precise content and that the "mentally ill"
can be identified with reasonable accuracy, there is still no
constitutional basis for confining such persons involuntarily if they
are dangerous to no one and can live safely in freedom.

That may be a good thing for conservatives in the long run since lefties insist we're mentally ill (they're projecting!!).

Yeah, I know. It drives me wild. Deinstitutionalization was something the Left had been pushing for years ("care in the community") when the Supreme Court issued that ruling.

I was dating a psychiatric nurse at the time (whom I did not meet in a professional capacity, I hasten to add) who lost her job because the mental hospital where she worked had to release so many inmates that they closed it.

But you'll be able to peruse the latest DSM-XII on your lunch break as it will be only three pages long. So there's that.

Three pages? That long?

I'm pretty sure that if the liberals have their way, NOTHING and I mean nothing from child rape to arson to animal torture will be considered deviant. Psychiatry will be die, because everything will be embraced as normal.

/and that way all the sickos out there can feel good about themselves!

272 OT: Venezuela's oil industry is even more screwed than I thought.

http://gcaptain.com/banned-sea-venezuelas-crude-stained-oil-tankers/

The gist of this is the tankers get stained with crude at the export terminals because of pipeline leaks, then have to be cleaned by hand. There is no money to fix the terminals, the delays in sailings cost money that doesn't exist, everything is breaking down and apart, collapsing.

Old Firm got a call from a client asking us to help with her 13 year old son who had gotten in trouble again for arson. We generally didn't do that kind of work but they had no money so, hey, fine, we'll see what we can do.

File got kicked to me to look at and as I'm going through the prior charges I freaked the hell out because the arson was escalating (pile of leaves to trash can down the street to actual dumpster fire) and there were two prior incidents of cruelty to animals. I called his mom and asked by any chance does he wet the bed and she said yes why.

I went to the Big Boss and told him that the help we needed to get was getting that kid in institutional care ASAP because we had a budding serial killer on our hands. I got brushed off on that but later events proved I was right. Kid ended up being locked away as sociopath with homicidal tendencies, luckily before he actually killed anyone.

280 I too get the Evil Ronnie Raygun routine thrown at me from time to time in discussions of the crazy "homeless" in and around SF.

I always just ask innocently, oh, so then, if closing the mental hospitals was bad, does it follow that you would support re-opening the wards, sending out the cops to vacuum up the wandering schizos off of the streets, and forcibly permanently re-institutionalizing the lot?

Cue frantic backtracking and hand-waving and eye-rolling. Oh no! Of course we wouldn't support such a thing!

OK. What then?
