Freedom Caucus Leader Mark Meadows: "We're Very Close" to a Deal on Obamacare

We'll make such great deals you won't believe all the great deals we're making.

Meadows says they're so close they might have a vote as soon as they get back from their two week break -- or even sooner, he says. The House Members had been told they might be recalled to DC for a vote if needed, and Meadows is at least talking up that possibility.

Sexton notes the "moderates" might still revolt at the notion of doing what they've promised to do for eight years. Oh well -- walk the plank, like Democrats did in 2009.

Here's something else to ponder for those bored with end-of-the-day political gossip:

I'm very curious to find out what the first "rock t-shirt" was.

I've read somewhere that a Humble Pie shirt from 1969 was possibly the first -- I but I also remember seeing a famous concert video of Bob Dylan from earlier in the '60s wearing a t-shirt with some other performer's name on it -- though I can no longer track down that video or incident.

Anyone have a clue as to what the first rock t-shirt really was?

And by "rock t-shirt" I mean a mass-produced t-shirt with a band's logo printed on it, for fans -- or possibly commemorating a rock concert.

9 Haha at everyone acting like the first attempt was the end of the story.

In other news I happened upon Death Wish II last night on one of the antenna channels and was surprised I enjoyed it even more than watching it 30 years ago. Watching Bronson take out the trash never gets old. Of course they cut out all the really nasty bits like the maid rape and his daughter impaling herself on a fence after jumping out of a window.

Posted by: Dack Thrombosis at April 11, 2017 08:06 PM (4ErVI)

10 I got my first two in 1973.

"The first rock concert T-shirt was produced by one of Elvis Presley's fan clubs during the late 1950s, and shirts featuring The Beatles go back as far as 1964. However, it wasn't until the hippie era of the late 1960s that the rock concert T-shirt arrived as a viable commercial product.
The proliferation of the rock concert T-shirt is due in large part to famed concert promoter Bill Graham (1931-1991), owner and operator of the legendary venues Filmore West (San Fancisco) and Filmore East (New York City). Graham produced shows featuring such psychedelic acts as the Jefferson Airplane, the Grateful Dead, Quicksilver Messenger Service, and Big Brother and the Holding Company, often using T-shirts to help promote and make money for the bands."

That's a great question. I don't have an answer, except to say that I have a hard time picturing Bob Dylan in a t-shirt. The closest I've seen is the Highway 61 Revisited album cover, where he was wearing a Triumph motorcycle t-shirt, with an unbuttoned long-sleeve shirt over it.

And that is just one month's premium. I promised to buy myself something nice each month since they priced me out of the market. Hopefully they make some good changes, but too late to help many of us since they made it illegal to just buy insurance for ourselves and not have two illegals and a pregnant druggie in expensive therapy added on.

Hmmm, I'd like to see pictures of those as proof!

But were the Beatles shirts made by the Beatles (or their parent corporations), or just by freelance fans? I suspect the latter. And the Elvis fanclub shirt was also fan-produced. So, I'm still wondering -- what was the first shirt produced by a band (or their parent company) as a promotional items for fans to wear?

I'm thinking that the Bill Graham stuff might be irrelevant -- I have a feeling he didn't start doing them until the early '70s, after the band t-shirt concept had already been invented. Sure, he may have helped to popularize them -- but invent them? Hmmmm.

This is why you get your ducks in a row and prepare the narrative.

Then you tell the Dems that the changes are now law, and they can either get with it and make it better (to be blamed for any failures while the GOP gins up the "bipartisanship" angle), or be blamed for it when Obamacare collapse (and if it doesn't point out that the reconciliation changes saved us... for now, despite the Dems intransigence).

The Cow Palace (in SF) started out intending to be a venue for livestock shows, but even from the very beginning the livestock auctions/shows were held only very infrequently -- maybe once or twice per year -- and the rest of the time it would have been vacant. Since it was built in 1941, it was immediately upon completion pressed into service as a troop processing center for WWII, and from that moment on it was used as a convention center and concert hall ever since, on the 364 days a year it wasn't filled with cows. So the answer is: The cows were back at the slaughterhouses in Tracy when bands played the Cow Palace.

Posted by: navybrat at April 11, 2017 08:34 PM (w7KSn)

105 The Cow Palace (in SF) started out intending to be a
venue for livestock shows, but even from the very beginning the
livestock auctions/shows were held only very infrequently -- maybe once
or twice per year -- and the rest of the time it would have been vacant.
Since it was built in 1941, it was immediately upon completion pressed
into service as a troop processing center for WWII, and from that moment
on it was used as a convention center and concert hall ever since, on
the 364 days a year it wasn't filled with cows. So the answer is: The
cows were back at the slaughterhouses in Tracy when bands played the
Cow Palace.

Great research, zombie.

I'd be inclined to assume that the Beatles would have thought of it earlier, but if they did it would surely be common knowledge.

So that has to be the first until someone provides evidence to the contrary.

108 Hmmm, I'd like to see pictures of those as proof!

Hmmmm.

Posted by: zombie at April 11, 2017 08:12 PM

I'm not sure one can separate it as such with The Beatles. Dunno about Elvis. The Beatles Fan Club was pretty much under their umbrella, even if they didn't start it. There wasn't a hell of a lot that they conceived and produced, themselves, for promo use barring glossy pix etc. It was often farmed out, encouraged or protested... then brought on aboard officially. Not all though. One things for sure the t-shirts were fully endorsed and the beatles wore them. It's a grey area. I know what you mean though.

Most interestingly, The Cow Palace is possibly the only structure in the nation with a title that was intended to be sarcastic! When the idea was first floated (during the Depression), the whiney SJWs of that era decried that the city shouldn't waste money building "a palace for cows" when they should be building housing for workers and the homeless! Oh the humanity!

But the project was pushed through anyway, and as a final jab to the SJWs, the developers PURPOSELY named it "The Cow Palace" just to piss the leftists off! Seriously!

The godless left has made progressivism its religion and it worships its elected demigods. A demigod's sins, no matter how heinous (think Ted Kennedy and Bill and Hillary Clinton) are always forgiven or excused by the worshippers.

In contrast, the right tends to vote in self-interest (as everyone should) and sees its elected officials merely as vehicles to implement the policies desired by the voter.

Therefore the left will alway put its partisan gods before country.

175 And never forget that the Cow Palace played a role in the history of boobs!

Back in '64, the Republican Party (hey! I'm back on the topic o this thread!) held the GOP convention at -- you guessed it, The Cow Palace -- and all the horny conventioneers, having heard of San Francisco's "sexy" reputation (even back then), all went to the strip joints on Broadway in North Beach.

Well, the Condor Club wanted to lure all the out-of-town customers away from the Adam 'n' Eve, Big Al's and the other clubs, so they decided to have their biggest-titted dancer -- Carol Doda -- go completely topless for her entire act. (Rather that slowly strip off in a striptease, with a brief boob-flash at the end.)

Wa-wa-wa-zoooom! The lines were out the door and down the block to see Carol Doda's giant tits. And, much to everyone's surprise, it turned out that there was no actual law forbidding dancing naked. So within days the other clubs started imitating the Condor. And the clubs in other cities started imitating SF -- and before long, topless clubs before the norm nationwide.

All because of the Cow Palace!

I think that was us, clutching our private parts where we had been kicked, that was trying to wave down a taxi. We should use what we learned from that encounter, against our enemies. Bingo. Many insider-type fans were deeply outraged when these became general merchandise. In the golden era, there were two (2) ways, and two ways only, to obtain a custom screen-printed T-shirt, those (2) being

(1) Work the event
(2) Work the band.

So having the T-shirt proved you were truly an "insider."

222 Taking just what was related about Panetta's comment about flashpoints since WWII, it's idiotic. There is exactly one flashpoint - the Korean peninsula - that has the potential for any major festivities related to it.

And even that pales in comparison to many many periods in the post-war era, as Panetta should know. Today does not have remotely the sort of flashpoints that abounded in the good old days, like the Berlin Crisis, or the 67 and 73 Arab-Israeli wars, or the Cuban Missile Crisis (though that one's greatly over-rated in itself if one peeks inside the curtain at top leadership on both sides).

289 Another possibility for the appearance of rock band T-shirts was to see if you could get people to remember how to spell the name of the band.

It didn't work.
Haram, harum, harem, whatevs.

290 Nobody admits to being a Kenny Rogers fan. Guy is a competent musician/singer, but he's the one who licks his thumb, and sticks it in the air to see which way the wind is blowing.

Was shocked he didn't record a disco tune. Hell, the Stones even did that. 'Miss You'.

I think Meadows was badly treated by Trump in this Ryancare mess. Its
very possible that Trump won NC because Meadows stuck by him during
Pussygate.All the same
time Ryan was busy stabbing Trump in the back.

****Yep, Trump might even have called Meadows out personally. I don't understand his venom against the FC and his loyalty to scum Ryan, and Priebus.I am a Trump supporter from the get go. But this healthcare thing is a disappointment so far.

My folks used to have J for dinner at our house. Really.

He was a very nice guy and smart too.

Loved your mom's mac and cheese. Made me a bit gassy, but it was delicious. But I'm dead now, so I can eat as much of it as I want. Farts smell like flowers here.
