Two Injured, Two Dead in San Bernadino Elementary School Shooting; Shooter Might Be Down

Update: The gunman killed the classroom's teacher and then killed himself.

Still officially active, though one hopes the shooter is now inactive as a biological matter.

At least four victims have been located after a shooter walked on to the North Park Elementary School campus in San Bernardino and opened fire in a possible murder-suicide, officials said.

The shooter was also possibly down, according to a tweet from San Bernardino Police Department Chief Jarrod Burguan, who said the information was preliminary.

Burguan later tweeted that the shooting was a suspected murder-suicide. Two students were transported to a local hospital after the incident, which took place in a classroom, he said.

So, I'm running to the neighborhood grocery store a few minutes ago (25 min), and the local news breaks into Rush for a 'special report', then go to CBS news nationally, and announce this story. The *national* report goes on to tell me where to pick up my kids. Sigh.

Here's my rant: this is NOT a story worthy of breaking into programming for. Yes, it sucks, it is terrible, I feel for the victims, but....it is a local major story for San Bernardino. In my book, it barely warrants a mention on the 6pm news. All this hyperventilating is simply ginned up drama for the masses, probably so that they get hyperactive about 'banning guns' 'for the children'.

Truth be told -- I just mentioned this morning to Mrs. Depluribus how fewer school shootings there have been this year. I guess I should have knocked wood -- which I didn't.

I don't want any school shot up, but if the drug industry and doctors have finally figured out the correlation that's good -- and long past time.

Dear sweet merciful heavens.

Several years ago I was watching the local news half paying attention and then I heard a client's name and backed it up and murder suicide today blah blah blah. I started calling co-workers and, yeah, it was our client.

We were handling an auto accident case for her and she and the ex had been, to all appearances, cordially separated. No history of abuse, no history of drug or alcohol issues, they didn't have kids so no fighting over custody. It was about as civil as these things can be. Right up until he showed up and shot her in the head and then killed himself.

Some years back when I was working in downtown SF I parked half a dozen spaces in one of the Embarcadero garages from an '80s Cadillac.

I came back, some hours later, to find my car had been yellow-taped off from the outside world and it took a little effort to get sprung.

Guy named Gianni Ferri had shot up a law firm in 101 California.

I still recall one of the big bus-side posters of the day was 'In The Line Of Fire' with Clint Eastwood sighting down some pistol.

That, plus the level of pressure on kids to get into colleges or "your future will be over" is huge.

You have the double whammy of the broken support system (family) and the huge pressures of getting into a school or your future will be farked, and yeah, kids (especially kids, who don't know how to deal with these things) are going to snap.

Of course the whole "get into school or your future will be farked" is a lie, but it's so easy to buy into it.

There was a horrible story out of Chicago when we lived up there years ago. Woman married to a doctor (I believe) in a gorgeous home. She was jealous/suspicious he was seeing someone, so, one day as each of their children came home, she took them upstairs and drowned them in a bathtub. Then she laid their bodies out on a bed for him to see when he came home.

Of course, the bitch didn't kill herself.

The tuition initiative is part of a new state budget approved Sunday by the state Senate, a day after the Assembly approved it.

Posted by: Jack Sock

it isn't.

We've seen far too many cases where ex husbands engaged in killing sprees because they convinced themselves that they were wronged. In some cases, they actually were. Often times, men get badly treated. That doesn't warrant murder.

In this case, the assertion was that his daughter was driven to suicide, AND one of the agents of that was being interviewed, presumably, sympathetically. If that were true, that would be a logical explanation. No, still not an excuse.

Especially since we have no idea if it was true.

I would note that many here, including today, have talked about "what they would do" if their child was the victim of violence, and officialdom didn't act.

A dead child is a dire factor. We both know that it's a factor, but there's no proof to his assertion, so far as I know.

This case touches upon the worst possible variables:

divorce
kids in the middle
one of whom takes her own life (which may have happened for one reason, many reasons, or none).
some sort of publicity (many guys snap out when final decrees get issued or they're close).
Allegations of abuse (which may be BS. Heaven knows that many women fake such allegations.)

Sometimes it doesn't matter, or it is in reaction to something quite real.

My point is that in most states, the situation is increasingly set against men.

In Delaware, the woman tends to wind up with less than half the debt, at least half of the assets, whether she contributed a cent or not, often gets custody, AND alimony exists here.

Come to think of it, who initiates it does and does not matter. But this state of affairs is one of the factors leading to decreased interest in marriage. Add to that may states having a pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey approach to establishing paternity (tagging the sperm donor was a nice touch)

Define "middle-class" in New York.

According to the article, families making less than $125,000 a year.

So, make more than $125K a year, then pay $100+ K per child for college? Or take some leisure time and milk the state? I think NY State's middle class is about to inexplicably swell the ranks.

Have the illegals who are replacing their tax paying population fund it.

I think this is especially true when the fault lies squarely with the woman. That is, a woman who runs off with the pool boy on a whim will get the same benefit from the system as the woman who is dumped by her husband for a bimbo.

IOW, no-fault divorce seems largely to be no-female-fault divorce.
