Why Is CNN Permitting Jim Schiutto To Offer Partisan Arguments on Behalf of Obama Administration Officials, Without Disclosing He Has Personal Relationships With Some of Them?

I don't mind that Sciutto is reporting on this story. You get leaks from sources. If those leaks are criminal in nature, they're usually only offered to someone the leaker trusts not to burn them. That usually means some kind of personal relationship.

So I understand that a reporter will frequently have a personal relationship with his source, especially if the revelation of the source could expose him (or very definitely her) to criminal liability.

But why is he allowed to go outside his brief as a "reporter" and make opinion journalist arguments on behalf of his sources?

And why is he permitted to do so without CNN requiring him to make the most basic disclosures of his conflicts of interest on these matters?

On Monday, CNN's Jim Sciutto dismissed Bloomberg's scoop on Susan Rice as "largely ginned up, partly as a distraction from this larger investigation." However, the journalist failed to mention that he has a connection to the key figure in this story, as he once worked at the State Department during the Obama administration between 2011 and 2013.

This means that Sciutto and Rice both worked for the Obama White House. During the same time period, Rice was serving as President Barack Obama‘s ambassador to the United Nations.

The journalist’s connection to Rice goes beyond the Obama administration, as RedState pointed out in a Tuesday post. Before he joined the State Department, Sciutto worked at ABC. During his time at the Big Three network, one of his colleagues was Ian Cameron, who happens to be married to Susan Rice.

It should be noted that some of Sciutto's "reporting" about the perfect innocence of Susan Rice is attributed to a "source close to Rice," which could very well be Sciutto's old colleague and Susan Rice's husband.

If that's the case, why is his name being withheld? A husband faces no liability or threat of retaliation for standing up for his wife.

No, if the source for his "Susan's a perfect innocent in all this" "reporting" is Rice's husband, then that name is being made anonymous to give it additional credence -- no one would put any stock in a husband vouching for a wife.

Anyway, this possibility underscores the need for Sciutto's connections to Rice and to the Obama State Department to be frequently disclosed, his "reporting" scrutinized to make sure he's not disguising the names of his "sources" for non-journalistically defensible reasons, and for him to be barred from offering opinion editorial commentary on the story.

If he's got a direct line to the Rice household, fine, that makes him a conduit for Rice's spin, which CNN should use.

But CNN should not allow him to play Mob Lawyer for the Obama Administration and Susan Rice by offering conspiracy theories that exculpate them, based on noting but his partisan impulses and personal feelings for his colleagues and fellow leftists.

Yeah, if people close to her aren't willing to go on record to say she's innocent it's telling. Either because it's her husband, or because they don't want to be on record with that claim when something new and more damaging comes to light.

Unnamed sources in this context is about as weighty as the "some people say" thing the MSM likes to do, especially in order to challenge the GOP/conservatives.

That would require a degree of self-awareness that they and too many people in this nation lack. And even if they did, the mission is to destroy Trump and continue the subjugation of the nation as founded.

That's why I'm now in favor of PDT arresting and trying Rice and all the rest up to and including Obama himself.

100 Ace - at what tipping point do we stop reporting flagrant abuses, conflicts, biases, lying by the media, etc in the manner in which we are - calmly asking questions and then attempting to answer them, as in this Schiutto story? The media has torn off their clothes, have smeared their own sh-t over one another, and are running thru the streets defecating in their hands and throwing it at everyone who pokes their heads out the door, and yet we seemingly treat them as if they are worthy of calm and measured reporting.

In my mind, headlines should be screaming - "CNN Continues Lies - Uses Jim Schiutto as Additional Cover for Democrats". You can be democrats and their media complex would be doing just that if the GOP and limited Conservative media was this brazen. The Obama admin is laughing every step of the way thru this no doubt.

Yeah. 3% on any poll is pretty much garbage, but I was just using it
as a jumping off point to the idea of what people are thinking who
don't obsessively follow politics.
.
.
.
.Here is the deal with any poll on Trump's approval right now, it doesn't matter. He is not running for anything until 2020 and even then there is not a single name the democrats have that will mobilize their base like hillary or sanders did.

When Bush ran for his second term the democrats ran John "I got blown up in Vietnam three Times" Kerry who was the darling of the left and a lock to win and then he lost. There is nobody like that for the democrats now, because they have no bench. They can't run warren or Biden so they will have to pick a third string unknown to put out there.

So unless Trump completely screws everything up (which is possible) he is a shoe in for reelection in 2020.

The money wants a win. Somehow this is a win. The money tells its network of non-profits to make lots of noise, they do so.

I can't understand it unless they are convinced that Republicans would nuke the filibuster anyway. That assumption betrays a lack of understanding of a subset of our Republican senators like Collins, Murkowski, and McCain.

They would have totally held the line against nuking the filibuster when replacing RBG after a nice experience consenting to the Gorsuch pick. Comity and all.

That depends on the chain of command in the Obama White House. The National Security Advisor usually reports directly to the president, although it's possible that Rice might have reported to the WH CoS on some matters.

But something as serious as forcing the intelligence chiefs to unmask a presidential nominee and his advisors on a long-term basis and distribute the proceeds far and wide? That required presidential authorization. And she had Barry's signature on the distribution order.

Yeah this whole Gorsuch filibuster is a great example of that. They're so desperate to appease the crazed Roman pleb mob that the Democratic base has become that they're willing to throw away the one tool they have to stop Trump and a GOP Senate approving a Conservative replacement to Ginsburg/Breyer/Kennedy. It's insane, but there you go.

Has such a poll ever been taken before for any other president ? - I know a hell of a lot of people who regretted their vote(s) for Oh-BAH-muh.
If not then I am calling bullsh*t on this. Besides there is going to be a lot of water passing under the bridge between here and 2018, let alone 2020 so let's not get all "Byll Wynn-y" on the thread - ok?Further, 3% sounds an awful lot like statistical noise. For example -

But all the little minions, hangers on, toadies, and punk ass SJW deserve to go to jail for a long, long time. I want to see each one of them convicted of multiple felonies, and sentenced to CONSECUTIVE five and ten year sentences. I want to make an example out of them. I want these power hungry criminals ruined. I want every political activist, Democrat and Republican to be afraid of ever doing anything similar again. I want part of every bureaucrat's new employee orientation to include a one hour interview with one of these convicted criminals at their hell hole prison.
