Update: John McCain Says He's Ready to Go Nuclear

Well that's kind of a given.

I mean he's ready to go nuclear as far as the Democrat filibuster of Gorsuch.

He says he feels he has "no choice" but to push the delete key on the filibuster given Democrats' irrational, partisan obstructionism.

I've read that Collins might intend to quit the Senate in the near future and run for ME governor, so she *might* embrace the urge to go full RINO and knife us in the back on her way out. But everything I've read suggests that McCain and Graham are genuinely p*ssed off by these antics, and beyond that, there's no way any Republican can avoid the charge of being a traitor under these circumstances. I don't doubt most of them would be only to happy to betray us, but they don't want to do it without an out of some kind, which, except for maybe Collins, they don't have here. In my opinion, the filibuster is good as nuked.

The really smart move would be a behind-the-back OK to enough red-state Dems to get over 60 and preserve the filibuster, to use on a less-qualified nominee where they might pull a few R's, and then said red-state Dems will be able to campaign on how independent of Schumer they are and how they voted to preserve the filibuster. That won't happen until the roll call, though.

Doubtful. Poll after poll showed that the SC was amongst the biggest if not the biggest issue this past fall. They spoke pretty loudly on that count.

Trump is the person who picks the SC nominee, not the Senate and if he keeps picking from his list then there isn't a RINO in sight. And I don't think he gives a good wet fart about liberal seats or conservative seats, particularly after he get screwed by the 9th over the travel ban. Twice.

If RBG goes, I expect another conservative to be nominated and put on the Court. All of this polarization on SC picks is relatively new, since Bork. And I don't think Republicans have ever forgotten or forgiven and they know how important it is to have a Court that isn't a Super Legislature which is what liberals want.

204 I wonder if the GOPe champions - McCain and Graham are playing this out better then the Dems.

If they filibuster Gorsuch now, the Dems are saying, essentially, that you can never have a Republican SC justice.

The voting populace will see this as unreasonable.

If McCain and friends tell the Dems they will nuke the filibuster now, it lets the Dems know they can't win this fight and they need to back down.

If they do backdown, the filibuster is saved and can be used when the balance of the court is actually being changed...

Or McCain is really just pissed at Schumer for stabbing him in the back.

It was probably one of the 3 biggest winning issues for Trump - even if you hated him, he stops Hillary from having 2 or 3 SCOTUS picks. I'm just not convinced voters care much about the means - the sausage making of confirmation battles and procedural arcana. As stupid (or careless or arrogant) as you want if you think your

never should have been any worries of repercussions. It's history that

The Senate confirmed Scalia to be a Supreme Court Justice in September 1986.

At that time, the GOP held a 53-47 advantage in the Senate.

The Senate elections in November 1986 were disastrous for the Republicans, who lost 9 of 10 open seats.

This gave the Democrats a 55-45 advantage going into the Bork nomination.

No. If you downloaded the smear report on Trump, most of the people described were "masked". That is, instead of their names, they would be described, like, "Subject A, the manager of a hotel frequented by Americans". Then anyplace that person was referred to in the report, he would be Subject A.

Intelligence reports do this frequently. Obviously, some people get the reports without the masking, but more people get the report with certain people masked out. Rice, for some unknown reason, requested the unmasked reports for some of Trump's people. She may have then leaked then herself, or more likely, did it so that someone else could do the leaking. Since the media won't give up their sources, we can't know who the leaker was.

Unless, DOJ puts the whole thing in front of a grand jury and starts asking some reporters questions. Then we'll see if they are willing to go to jail to protect the leakers.

It peeled for two weeks. I had to go to the ER the next day for IV antibiotics, they gave me morphine to take home and more antibiotics, and a lidocaine solution with unlimited refills to swish. Only water for two days. Then milkshakes and ice cream for two weeks.

I'm only saying that unmasking and leaking are two different things. We know Rice requested unmasked reports. We don't know what justification she gave when she made those requests. We also don't know that she was the leaker or even that the reports that were provided to her were the ones that were leaked. Obviously, whoever provided her with the unmasked reports could have leaked them themselves. Or maybe there were others who were also given the unmasked reports and then they leaked them.

I think there is good reason to suspect that Rice was up to no good. But, there is no smoking gun. Yet.

It led to a beautiful remodelling project funded by insurance. So, it was great.

Yup. It's not particularly difficult if you're just making practice ammo, but there are a lot of steps to go through. So the big thing is attention to detail. Honestly, I find it enjoyable as a hobby in and of itself.

First thing, get a good book on reloading. I started with The ABCs of Reloading. And pick up a couple of the manufacturer's loading manuals (Speer, Hornady etc).

Long, long ago when I was in an institution where we had to make our own entertainment, one Saturday night I ate 3 calzones in a race against another guy in the company dayroom. The whole company was in there watching and cheering. I was a boxer, so I understood the mental component of this fight, which he didn't. I reload pistol rounds. It's very easy to learn. I am extra careful in my reloading, though. You can start out pretty cheaply with a Lee handheld press, Lee dies, and a cheap jeweler's scale (I weigh my loads individually ... sort of slow but not awful and much more accurate than anything). I get bullets from Xtreme - nice plated hollowpoints very reasonably priced. And I really like Sillouhette powder for my 9mm and .40.

I prefer my ammo to any factory stuff.

It's a longish story but he was reloading downstairs when he decided he needed some tea. Instead of leaving the canister downstairs he took with him upstairs. And then shit happened. And, yes, he was sober. It was just a brain fart that could have been truly disastrous.

My pleasure. When I started reloading I bought a whole bunch of shit that I never needed and have never used.

The one thing that you have to be aware of is to double check powder measures that you find in load listings. I have seen mistakes in some load tables.

It is really easy to learn but you just have to always do it very methodically and carefully. All in all you can get started for about $140 - hand press, dies (one set per caliber), scale, funnel, caliper, primer insertion tool. You will probably want a bullet extractor, too (a hammer thing for a few bucks) so that you can take apart rounds that have been misloaded or the bullet pushed too deep.

It's worth doing, even though ammo prices have come down. You can have much more choice as to what you're shooting if you do your own loads.

592 Second TPOP's reco for reloading.

Just did 100 rounds of 30 carbine, it so happens.

My approach was (is) to be unbelievably, insanely *cheap* about every part of it - buying most of the equipment used (much of it like new), buying components in bulk and on sale mostly, maximizing use of everyday items where possible. Only thing I don't do is cast my own lead bullets. That would bring my $/round numbers down even more.

But I probably save a minimum of 50% on the cost of loaded ammo (and up to 70%, in some calibers). One of the internet's oldest, most tedious, and boring debates is whether you're *actually* "saving" $$$, because the time spent in reloading. Simple truth is you'll save plenty on $$, and as TPOP said you also can customize your ammo in a way not possible when buying factory stuff. And if you like "making things", it's mostly sort of fun, too.
