Open Thread With Sundry Items of Limited Interest

A silly gainzzz thread on MSN tells you how to keep off all the Trump Presidency Weight that progressive dopes are gaining.

Three burglars broke into a home. This home included valuable things. It also included someone with an AR-15.

With just a bit of persuasion and firepower, they were successfully reformed from dangerous criminals into law-abiding dead bodies.

I saw a tweet earlier which I did not understand because I hadn't seen this story yet. It was someone shrieking that this wasn't "self-defense," it was "murder" in the defense of mere property.

VDH notices something no one in the media has -- it seems the Democrat Party has been pro-Russia since 1972, and yet the media previously always thought that was a pretty good position to take.

If it's now illegal to have a dovish position on Mother Russia, than man, do we have some retroactive prosecutions to get to. And yeah, I'll trade Trump for every Democrat operative, lobbyist, and agitator alive. Put them all in prison. We'll make Trump's cell luxurious and with gold bars so he doesn't mind so much.

This article complains about the so-called "Pink tax" of higher prices charged for goods sold specifically to women. Check out the picture at the bottom of the article.

Maybe they've changed it -- for me, it was a picture of 1950s blacks sitting at a lunch counter -- I assume in protest of Jim Crow laws. Not sure that pink razors costing an extra nickle a blade quite rises to the Selma All Over Again level.

And the below video is just too cute. A little girl has mistaken a broken water heater, put out for the trash, for a robot.

5 >>>Ace, are you feeling better from getting sick yesterday from changing your diet back to carbs recently? Moar Fat and Moar protein. Carbs are for salad bois.

it's not a diet thing. It's a bad sleep thing, plus an overdoing-it-with-exercise thing.

I had three days of very bad sleep, plus a nagging injury that I haven't let heal.

7 oh i didn't really change my diet to carbs. I just had too many off-diet days the last couple of weeks.

Only three or so, but when you space those out just perfectly, you can really destroy all weight loss potential.

9 >>> I've been trying to go to sleep about an hour later than usual, and find it makes a big difference in how I sleep for the night.

later? Why later?

a couple of months ago I was on a really good clock (for me) going to bed by 12 or 12:30 and I felt great.

now it's... back to 3, 4 am again.

Posted by: Teresa in Fort Worth, TX at March 28, 2017 08:41 PM (Saqzi)

11 The later I go to bed, the more unlikely it is I'll have a good night's rest. So sometimes I go to bed at 7:30. Or 7. I sleep about ten hours a night.

15 Ace, if you have trouble falling asleep, I recommend reading a garden catalogue. I seriously like them and I'm even planning a garden, but if I read a catalogue in bed, I 'm asleep someplace about cauliflower. If you're not a gardener, I swear you'll never make it past fava bean. 96 You know ... an AR ain't my thing. I own a Mini-14.

But for home defense, if you're not into a twelve gauge like me - I get it. An AR is easy operate. Especially if you leave the mag in, safety off, and just pull the charging handle and go. Easy recoil. Plenty of shots before you have to reload.

Not a bad way to go. And DPMS makes a pretty good $500 option now.

An external Hard Drive is cheap enough I can just get one and try it.

The external connect anything to anything that cybor @76 suggested would let me run an external burner drive. Of course, with my luck, a few more years and nothing will be able to read the format on the DVDs.

I'm just an amateur photographer and most of my 'stuff' isn't worth a lot of money, but I do have a few a that are worth the effort to save them.

I get throw up sick, I won't sleep well for days, I don't dream, and I get depresed. This happened a couple of weeks ago when I had to clean out the freezer and eat food instead of going to waste. I felt terrible. But itialian restuarnt extra cheese pizza with fresh meats does not do that.

I'm shooting for waist 34s by Friday. That would be well over 50 pounds and 10 inches in 4 months. Crazy how most of it came from healthy eating. I'm on a 6 week streak of working out with no injuries from past surgeries (this is a record since 200. I try and stay in my fat burning zone from noon to when I eat my one meal.

That is another good Idea, but I still use that computer, although everything is gradually migrating to a new one, which is what brought on the DVD burning binge.

I have obsolete computers around the house dating back to a '286 laptop. Trash for the dump, or I could start a computer museum.

175 Had to move my van with a dead fuel pump today, up a driveway and into the carport so that work crews could work on our porch.

Had no way to do it until it struck me: I put a few cups of gas in a two-liter bottle, connected it to the vacuum line for the brake booster, got it to run and drive uphill the 35 feet to get it where it needed to be.

Kinda wish they had been replaced with a good college men's hockey team on the pretense that they identified as women - just to see what would happen. Seem to recall that the Olympics have signed on to the whole "compete in you self-identified gender category" BS.

179 5 >>>Ace, are you feeling better from getting sick yesterday from changing your diet back to carbs recently? Moar Fat and Moar protein. Carbs are for salad bois.

it's not a diet thing. It's a bad sleep thing, plus an overdoing-it-with-exercise thing.

I had three days of very bad sleep, plus a nagging injury that I haven't let heal.

From on former insomnia moron to another, I feel your pain. Also as somebody who suffered ungodly nerve damage for 8 years in pain, that did not help either.

The key to pain is you have to control your environment. I had intractable pain and had to eliminate all people and other things who would cause stress thus making the pain flare up. That led to even worse sleepless nights like 4-5 days straight because of the pain.

Now with insomnia it's teaching yourself to wind down early and wake up at Sun up. Drink more than plenty of ice cold water after dinner. Control your environment. Invest in a comfortable healthy bed. Learn to breathe. I take so many death breaths throughout the day and exhale I sound pregnant.

There are some great compounding pharmacies that make topical creams that a doctor can prescribe that are lifesaving. My mixture involved Ketamine, Lidocaine, Gabapintin, Cyclobenzaprine.

There is a great pdf file that's considered the bible for living with intractable pain. This is great for insomnia and stress as well as you have to manage many things to live with intractable pain.

I actually have two USB sticks that came with SanDisk backup software, so I should have backups. I just thought I needed to back up to DVD.

I guess I should just quit worrying about it, and do another back up to USB sticks. I didn't realize how much I had.

182 Getting back on HFLC, after a period of deviation, is a real pain. It sometimes takes me weeks. The main problem is shutting down that little voice that says "No, man, you NEED some potato chips today."

The weird part is that after a lot of struggle, one day I wake up and I don't even want the damn chips, and I can't imagine the person I was who wanted them so badly. That day is when the GAINZZ resume.

When I was that age, I often mistook water towers for rockets.

water-tower-royalty-free___/116198723

Back in those days, they often had pointy tops and were painted in a red & white checkerboard pattern. Just like pictures I saw of rocket gantries at Cape Canaveral.

So when we were in the car, I'd point out the window and say, "There's a rocket!"

As I tell folks: Anything on one drive is asking to disappear. If it's even the slightest bit important to you, it should be on two drives. If it is ACTUALLY important, it needs to be a minimum of three drives and one of those needs to be in a separate physical location.

194 Ace,

About that sleeping problem. I stopped using an alarm clock about 5 years ago. Totally to the stress out of waking up. Turned out that lack of stress helped me get to sleep better.

You can tell yourself when to wake up. Repeat the time and that you are going to wake up in some kind of complete sentence. It really does work.

Lastly dont set a wake up time as often as you can. You take out all that stress (and cortisal) makes for much better sleep and you would be surprised how early you wake up fully refreshed.

For me it was counter intuitive what I needed to do
