Quotes of The Day

Quote I

Happiness and moral duty are inseparably connected.
-- George Washington

Quote II

Imagine choosing a job not on money or even on career advancement, but as part of a life worth living. Dale Dauten

Quote III

Recession is when a neighbor loses his job. Depression is when you lose yours. Ronald Reagan

2 certain things in life, death and taxes. Make that 3 things, death, taxes and debt in the afterlife. Average Americans dying with debt.

These days, not even the dead are debt-free.

A new report from Credit.com has found that 73 percent of U.S. consumers are dying with large amounts of debt to their name — to the average tune of $61,554.

Everyone (or so it seems) in the educational field say you make more money if you have a college degree. (The ONT will put up a master plumber to any gender studies grad any day of the week. But, we digress.) Are you a sex worker. Sex workers make more with a college degree.

Economists Scott Cunningham and Todd Kendall conducted an extensive survey of female sex workers in 2009. They asked detailed demographic questions as well as gathered details about the women’s clients, work patterns, and pay. They estimate that college-educated sex workers are less likely to work than their less-educated counterparts in any given week. But when they do work, they earn about 12% to 13% more. College educated sex-workers see more clients and book longer sessions. They charge slightly less on an hourly basis, but the volume and nature of their services means they end up earning more.

How to survive a mugging.

The feel good story of the day. The couple from Hell. Trying to make it-again.

After years of public humiliation by her sext-a-holic husband, Anthony Weiner, 40-year-old Abedin finally separated from the former congressman in August, one day after The Post reported that he had sent yet another explicit photo to a woman — this one showing his toddler son asleep beside him.

But sources tell The Post that Hillary Clinton’s righthand woman is now giving the marriage another try.

Is it time to do away with the Indian Reservation? All casino jokes aside, a good question.

The idea of "reservations" may have made sense 150 years ago, but by now we are all Americans, and the idea of separate "reservations" for different kinds of Americans smacks of paternalism and racism.

We should do away with reservations. And if liberals object, I would give the Indians back Manhattan, as a form of reparation.

The ONT Musical Interlude

March 27, 2015, Country singer Willie Nelson announced that he and his family were hard at work on a new brand of marijuana called Willie's Reserve. Stores of that same name were being planned and were to include his signature brand and other strains that would be grown to meet quality standards. via thisdayimusic.com

1970, Born on this day, Mariah Carey, singer. Carey is named after 'They Call The Wind Mariah' from the musical 'Paint Your Wagon'. Scored the 1994 UK No.1 single 'Without You' plus over 20 other UK Top 40 hits and 12 US No.1 singles. via thisdayinmusic.com

Let it burn. The judiciary is as f*cking nuts as the people who appear before them.
The 27-year-old formerly known as Patrick Abbatiello, now legally designated agender, also got legal approval to change names, now going only by “Patch,” no surname. That name also serves as a pronoun, Patch explained to the local NBC affiliate this week.

“Even gender-neutral pronouns don’t feel as if they fit me,” Patch said. “I feel no identity or closeness with any pronouns I’ve come across. What describes me is my name.”

As the old commercial went, "Parts is parts." Form woman to "man".

Having already bought you a first-class ticket to the wonderful land of hairy vagina monsters (and other such delights of vaginoplasty), it seemed downright sexist not to visit neighboring Dongistan. We talked to Gerbil, a trans man who recently underwent phalloplasty, and he told us that turning a hoo-ha into a wang comes with its own unique challenges. For example ...

Finding A Dong Doctor Is Nearly Impossible

Once again, Man's Best Friend lives up to its reputation. Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

The rule of law and democracy are two things that the Progressive Left claim to be fighting for, yet actually fight against. "Democracy", to them, is not about majority rule, nor even about individuals actually having any say whatsoever about their own governance.

Ain't worth it, bro. You're thinking "Hey, I'll be a sex worker, get my foot in the door in the sex industry". 20 years later, you're still showing up at the sex factory, punching your clock, and when the whistle blows at 8am, you're there on the assembly line, putting sex together for 10 hours with a 15 minute lunch break. The sex gets loaded into freight cars, goes to the pier, and a crane loads it onto cargo ships, and you? You're still just a cog in the machine, man.

And the sides are excellent. That makes me happy.

Thank you for the offer, but it's about a 15 hour drive for you. I'm guessing at least four hours from Chicago?

109 Baby Sister Update

Joyce's friends Jessica and Erin took her out for a picnic yesterday:

The picnic was at Silver Springs Park (I think that's like 1/2 hour drive each way), and they really enjoyed themselves. Jessica was so honored that Hubby entrusted Joyce in her and Erin's care (he can be - justifiably - somewhat controlling about that, glad to see he's lightening up a bit). "Yay!!! Girlfriend time!!"

I spoke with Joyce this afternoon, and she said it was "magical" -

I remain cautiously hopeful, will know more in a few weeks, after she's had the next set of MRI's/scans.

And that's their good points. All kidding aside, they should be abolished. The land parceled out to the Indians with a provision it can't be sold for say 5 years. Grew up next to the Crow and Northern Cheyenne reservations and went to school and worked with them. We're doing them no favors keeping this corrupt system afloat. Besides we'll be able to shit can the BIA as a bonus.

225 Playing the new Mass Effect. I might be missing something, but I haven't yet spotted any overt evidence of Mr. "I Hate White People" in the game yet.

One particular thing of interest that caught me by surprise...

Humanity and religion is largely ignored in Science Fiction. Aliens can have religions (usually semi-exotic, and sometimes with miraculous abilities). But humans can't, unless it's a crazy evil cult. The Mass Effect games to date have fallen into the "ignore human spirituality and religion" camp.

And that's mostly true in the new Mass Effect: Andromeda. But there's one very notable and positive exception. Your ship's science officer is believes in God. She doesn't provide any details on her religious practices, but she does tell you in a conversation that she believes in God. And in further conversations on the topic, she explains why - it's her research. The things she's seen as a scientific researcher strengthen her faith in the divine and the idea of a Creator.

I thought it was nice to see, particularly since it goes counter to the popular conception of scientists as atheists (and in a fashion that fits with what real life religious scientists have stated as well).

265 @262 oh, and The Long Journey Home is pretty much done, as well. They are debugging now. This is the game that wants to be the next Star Control 2
---------------------

Stardock (makers of Galactic Civilizations, among other games) has announced something called "Star Control: Origins". Unfortunately, while it has the familiar name, it doesn't appear to include the actual setting. Apparently that's because "Toys for Bob" (the old development house) is owned by someone else these days. So Stardock has the name (I guess) but not the setting.

Unfortunately, just based off of the little preview teaser, I couldn't tell how much like SC2 it would be.

It's been here for quite a while. People are only now noticing.

I've seen references to, and occasionally used myself, the wording of "the Cold Civil War".

I don't really like that nomenclature, because it implies parallels with the original Civil War that aren't apposite. It also means that anyone who isn't on the left's side will be damned as a racist neo-Confederate apologist for slavery. No thanks.

Calling it the "Civil Cold War" doesn't really roll off the tongue smoothly, either.

Whatever it is, it's transitioning from Cold to Hot. Rapidly.

I'd suggest not worrying about choice of term, but rather confronting the lefty with the possibility - which never seems to occur to them - that an overweening government just might be in the hands of someone with whom they strongly disagree. For example, President Pat Buchanan might require them to attend church every Sunday, and get their ID card punched as proof of their attendance. For some reason, at least in my experience, lefties are brought up short by this sort of argument, because apparently they implicitly assume the government will be in leftist hands. When they realize that that might not be the case, with luck (and with the good fortune to have run into a leftist with some intelligence, and some intellectual honesty) the leftist will come to appreciate the value of limiting government power.

Totalitarian
Posted by: garrett at March 28, 2017 12:09 AM (T1Co2)

The irony - and it is a telling one - is that originally "totalitarian" was coined by the Left (specifically Mussolini) as a term of approbation, not deprecation. Mussolini is the one who in this context coined the phrase "from cradle to grave" in advocating his "totalitarian" approach to government.

Only later did "totalitarian" become a dirty word.

It's amazing how few leftists are aware of this.

True. Mussolini was a very bright guy, and before his Communist apostasy, was held in high regard by Lenin for his intellectual chops.

Come to that, Adolf was also a very bright guy, with an IQ estimated by Allied intelligence officers as circa 140. His intelligence is apparent from Mein Kampf, where he treats (in a meandering and disorganized fashion, to be sure) on an abstract level with his analysis of the forces shaping history. In this respect he paralleled Marx, who considered history as shaped by economic forces (historical materialism) rather than ethnic and racial allegiances.

This is not to endorse either of their perspectives, but rather to point out that these were not mediocre intellects of the, e.g, Maduro class.

397 Something always struck me as a little off about Huma and Ant'ny's marriage.

Huma is a Muslim, from a powerful and influential Muslim family of the Middle East. She and her mother used to run the Muslim Brotherhood's official newsletter.

The fact is, there is no way a family like that would allow one of its beautiful daughters to marry any sort of infidel, especially a Jew.

But for some reason, Huma's family has had no objections whatsoever to her marriage to Ant'ny. She's even gone home to the Middle East for extended visits with her family, and come back safely. And even if her family were okay with her marrying a Jew, you'd expect other prominent Muslims to cause trouble for them.

But, no; apparently, even though the Koran specifically forbids a Muslim woman from marrying any sort of infidel (especially a Jew!), neither the Abedins nor any of their peers in the upper echelons of Muslim society have any sort of problem with Huma being married to Ant'ny Weiner.

Why? Well, perhaps you can look at Ant'ny's wandering pee-pee as a clue... I believe his marriage to Huma is a sham, a mere tying-together of their political and financial prospects, and she gives him no lovin', so he seeks his lovin' elsewhere.

And I think everyone in Islam's upper crust knows the marriage is a sham, intended to further the jihad, and that's why nobody has, say, called for Huma to be stoned to death for the crime of apostasy or adultery.

2) Dave Chappelle. Lot of F-bombs, stories about smoking weed with rappers. I shouldn't like this, but I did. He's a little blue, but not too much. He tells a funny, sweet story about his kid. And he's not too political, if I remember right. Overall the routine seemed better crafted than Gaffigan's. Anyway, I'd recommend the Dave Chappelle special on Netflix!

Actually, I checked and there are 2 1-hour Dave Chappelle specials on Netflix.

Five years ago, he was a charismatic and strongly opinionated young liberal Congressman. Liberals just loved him; he argued the way they wanted someone powerful to argue in favor of their viewpoints.

This was right around the time Joe Biden's son was diagnosed with terminal cancer. I think the plan at the time was for Biden to retire in order to spend more time with his dying son, and let Ant'ny take over the vice-presidency for Obama's second term.

I think Huma entered into a sham marriage with Ant'ny because she fully expected him to become the Vice-President.

Most people have their eyes and ears on their phones these days or are listening to something on their headphones no matter where they are. Sure, YOU do, but that's not the point. The vast majority of the population has no idea what fascism is/was. And frankly, no one who hasn't read Mussolini's speeches (available free online) has any idea either. The characterization of Mussolini's philosophy by poli sci profs is, to be polite, open to question. Most of them have probably never read Mussolini's speeches. I leave it to you to surmise how many poli sci undergrads have ever read a single one of Mussolini's speeches.

The Weiner was definitely an up-and-comer, I'll give you that. He was the angry asshole lefty politician all lefties want. The Weiner had a lot of face time on tv, a go-to guy if you will, spewing forth lefty talking points. I think the Muslim Brotherhood sacrificed one of their 'sisters' by marrying him, hoping that The Weiner would be president someday. In only a slightly alternate universe, that could have happened. Their marriage, after all, was blessed by the Clintons. It would have been bad enough to have a Muslim Brotherhood spy as confidante to a President Shrillery, but think how much more damage a First Lady Huma could have caused.

Besides The Weiner self-destructing, Andrew Breibart taking over The Weiner's resignation press conference killed him dead. After that, Huma had very little options left if she wanted to achieve The Muslim Brotherhood's goals of influencing US policy while destroying the US. So she became Shrillary's trib-buddy, another no-no in muzzie world but quite acceptable if one is engaged in such activity in order to bring down The Great Satan.

423 Now, does your standard-issue leftist have an understanding of the concept of fascism?

Posted by: Emmie at March 28, 2017 01:08 AM (xVuS6)

They Left has bought the lie that fascism was 100% a product of nationalism, and that nationalism is therefore evil.

In reality, it was a product of collectivist thinking (socialist/communist) using patriotic rhetoric as a means of getting people on board with their social engineering agenda. The USSR also did that, so patriotism does not automatically make it a right-wing movement.

The only difference between it and the others forms is that instead of the government directly owning the industries, it owned the souls of the industrialists. They were able to wield complete power over the economy via their central bureaus by commanding instead of micromanaging.

Its results were no different than those seen in every other form of collectivism that has ever been tried. The state was elevated above the people, "elite experts" were installed to control every aspect of life, the "experts" weren't as smart as they thought they were, things went to hell in a handbasket due to their meddling, scapegoats were found for the people's suffering, and monstrosity followed.

Hate-testimony? Like a hate-fuck, but with more legal implications?

Posted by: RickZ at March 28, 2017 12:52 AM (hkdnQ)

It varies from state to state, but I believe that the general rule is that you can't compel testimony on private matters that occurred during the marriage, but that there are loopholes for criminal activities committed by both parties. So, for example, a wife can't be compelled to testify about her ex-husband's embezzlement that she knew about, but didn't participate in, but if she was an accomplice in it then she could testify in exchange for a lighter sentence.

The idea is supposed to be to prevent the state from using family as witnesses and undermining familial bonds. Same for priests, attorneys, and doctors.

However, IANAL.

Five
years ago, he was a charismatic and strongly opinionated young liberal
Congressman. Liberals just loved him; he argued the way they wanted
someone powerful to argue in favor of their viewpoints.

This was
right around the time Joe Biden's son was diagnosed with terminal
cancer. I think the plan at the time was for Biden to retire in order to
spend more time with his dying son, and let Ant'ny take over the
vice-presidency for Obama's second term.

I think Huma entered into a sham marriage with Ant'ny because she fully expected him to become the Vice-President.

This is similar to my thoughts as well. The Clintons knew that Chelsea wasn't going to happen, and they needed someone to carry on the legacy and cement their influence on the Democrats. Anthony and Huma were supposed to be Bill and Hillary's heirs. He'd work his way up through the ranks in Congress, while she followed Hillary to the White House, and eventually made a name for herself in the Executive Branch. Eventually one or the other would run for President offering the nation another "co-presidency".

456 It's bedtime for Emmie, but before I go, I would like to request prayers from the Horde.

I am finally responding to an email from my rabid leftist relative. My main objective was to challenge the relative's slander of pro-lifers, since I have begun to wonder if the insane idea on the left that it is heroic to assault conservatives is because we so often leave slanders unanswered. (Not saying my relative is prone to physical asssult -- just verbal.)

Anyway, the email compounds the slander a zillion-fold and tops if off with the taking of offense because I don't think the government is the best conduit for taking care of the poor. (This means I have insulted the lefty's motives.)

I want my answer to be firm, fair, and reconciliatory. (Maybe even fun, although I am not that clever.) As we have all gotten older, this relative's immediate family is down to conservatives only and they have got to feel a bit abandoned. Also, they are so anti-Christian (and fixated on it!) that a conversion along the lines of Paul the Apostle is not out of the question.

I am too tender-hearted to banish anyone from my life, so if I must deal with this person, I want to be a light.

Thanks! 'The effective prayer" of the Moron Horde "can accomplish much."

We hit peak civilization in the Reagan era and have been on the downslope ever since. Technology keeps advancing, and will until it has a reason not to, but the virtues that made our society function have come unwound.

Our failure as a civilization will not be from disease or famine, but from corruption and decadence.

481 Mornin'!

#435 There was a large rock about 50 yards out in the lake which had a hot tub sized depression filled with water warmed by the sun. Glorious!

A few years back, me and two buddies backpacked for 8 days in the high desert in Utah. For a couple of days we camped on a ledge about 20 feet above a canyon floor through which ran a year-round stream. The stream had carved out round "pools" along its rocky sides that resembled hot tubs, with water warmed by the sun all day.

They made the best bathtubs ever. Each day we'd get back to camp all hot and sandy and sweaty from hiking, and jump into our "pools." It was so awesome. Only thing is, you learned to bathe well before the sun started going down, (before preparing dinner) because it gets real cold real fast in the desert the minute the sun starts approaching the horizon. Plus the mule deer needed that stream to drink in the evening so you want to remember that you are guests in their house and give them space.

Someone should declare it to be a national defense asset.

And authorize it's defense using deadly force.

Manchin also thinks gun control is a viable option under Trump. From Breitbart.

http://preview.tinyurl.com/l2j9zoz

According to the NYT Mag, Manchin appeared on MSNBC's Morning Joe on December 14, 2016, the 4th anniversary of the heinous attack in which 20-year-old Adam Lanza stole guns, killed his mother, then went to Sandy Hook Elementary and killed 26 more innocents. While on air, Manchin again voiced support for his pet gun control item - an expansion of background checks in response to the Sandy Hook attack.

Within an hour after his segment ended, Manchin received a phone call from Donald Trump. And while he did not divulge details of the call, he told NYT Mag reporter Robert Draper that he believes he has "a complete opportunity" to secure gun control under Trump.

Draper said Manchin believes his gun control has a chance it never had under Barack Obama because "no one thinks President Trump would do anything that would take away your gun rights." The problem with this claim is that Manchin's gun control - universal background checks - cripples gun rights by coupling private sales with retail sales and forcing Americans to seek out an agent of the state for permission to conduct either kind of sale. Moreover, history - even recent history - has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that universal background checks are insidious; they lead to more and more gun control and especially to a gun registry.

In fact, universal background checks cannot work without a gun registry. Think about it - how can the government be sure no guns are changing hands privately unless they know where every gun is and the name of everyone who owns it? This is exactly why the implementation of universal background checks in California has been followed by gun registration requirements. Moreover, it is why more and more gun controls that involve paperwork continue to be passed in that state; the hope is to discover guns that have not made it onto the state database of gun owners yet.

Manchin's a snake in the grass. In other words, a typical Democrat. I don't trust the prick at all. West Virginia can do better, especially for a state which loves its guns.
