Thread below the Gardening Thread: Novel Theory about Muslim Immigration [KT]

Serving your mid-day open thread needs

Whoa. Michael Kennedy:

I have been wondering why the political left, and to some extent the right, has been so enthusiastic about Muslim immigration. Islam is just not compatible with the liberal traditions of the West. So why the continued efforts to import Muslims ?

What do you think the novel theory is? Clue below the fold:

Yeah, but don't leave the feminism part of this out of the equation. This is one of the major problems of the left, they laydies want to neuter the men, the blacks want to kill all the whites, the gheys want to get rid of the straights.

All of which are suicidal, but it's like they can't see the whole picture. They're so fixated on who they hate, they have NO CLUE that the alternative, in this case a rabid evil cult of a billion just might hate them more.

So they chip away at Western civilization, which essentially is that: white, male, hetero Christians. Consequences be damned. And if they succeed, they damn everybody.

43 For the hard left that is driving most of our whole insane society, they are a powerful tool to destroy our society. To the left, we cannot have their desired utopia until what we have built is eradicated.

Hence their incredible nihilism and need to destroy everything we hold dear.

Mass Muslim immigration is a means to that end. If an entire American culture, all our institutions, a happy and productive way of life for tens of millions, and as many lives as necessary are stamped out and crushed under their heel - the means justify the ends to the left

BTW, enjoyed the song, haven't heard it for decades, but not sure of the linkage. Inquiring minds want to know.

It's Suspiria, with an"i" before the "a." The original flick is indeed overrated (that had to be the most unrealistic "ballet school" imaginable) but it has one major thing going for it, and that's the superb and justly famous soundtrack by GOBLIN. Unless the remake uses the exact same soundtrack, it will suffer for it.

I bought the deluxe DVD edition of SUSPIRIA just because the package included a separate CD of the soundtrack.

58 Never saw the "Flower Drum Song". That was painful - I should have just read the article first.

That article might explain Merkel - who is so f*cked up she is inscrutable and opaque to me.

But in general, I think it's a case of:

i) Democrat politicians don't care about the distant future, whether the world goes to shit. They just want to guarantee that they will have safe seats for the remainder of their lifetimes, so they want to import as many people as possible who are guaranteed to vote for them in the short term.

ii) Useful idiot liberals, not alpha liberals like Hillary, but Libtardis Vulgaris, soccer moms who so rabidly desire Muslim immigrants. I think they are subconsciously repulsed by Muslims, and feel guilty about this, and try to "atone" for this by inflicting Muslims upon themselves and the rest of the country (similar to Medieval people who flagellated themselves to atone for their sins).

There also is the odd psychological phenomenon called "survivor guilt". The one person who survives the plane crash feels *guilty* as if he did something wrong when he had nothing to do with the outcome. Americans are conditioned to think that all societies are equal in their natural states and that if Shithole-istan in the Middle East is not, it must be something *we* did, and we must atone for it, even if all the evidence points to their being the primary cause of their own woes. If it were possible for these people to think so, I believe that if they saw a child with a debilitating disease, they would not merely feel sorry for that child and want to help them (which would be noble), they would feel personally guilty about it, and would want to inflict the same disease upon themselves and their own children, which is grotesque and sick.

iii) I also believe that liberals are a) racists with b) an inferiority complex. They are kids who were bullied and taunted in school by their peers. Their peers were mostly white. They associate whiteness with competition: ie. people who are smarter and better looking who will mouth off to them and make them look stupid when they behave stupidly. Then they look upon third world sh*tholes and they think: "the brown people are docile, humble. I will be their rescuer, like that guy in the Avatar movie. They will worship me and love me and adore me."

Liberals are losers who want to bring in Muslims to help fulfill their narcissistic fantasy. And if people here have concerns about criminals and terrorists in sanctuary cities, liberals enjoy lambasting them as racists. It's a way for liberals to get revenge on the people who bullied them in childhood.

61 Something I've never seen put together, but which I'm sure someone somewhere must've already noted:

On the one hand we have these nations where there is concern about not reproducing at replacement levels, thus reducing the available workforce.

On the other hand we have these concerns about increasing automation taking over all positions, thus reducing the available jobs.

Seems t'me that it would be preferable to go with the flow, lower reproduction and automation, than to invite in hordes of uncooperative, unproductive, untrainable, third-world welfare cases.

But, what do I know? I'm not the head of a major European nation or anything...!

You seem determined to put the most negative possible spin on this. In the book, and the movie, she is just a showgirl, although her boyfriend subsidizes her lifestyle. And it's the fifties, so no she wasn't "putting out". Girls in musicals back then "saved themselves" until after marriage. She wants to marry her boyfriend, but breaks up with him when he won't propose, then gets back together with him and marries him at the end and THEN (at least according to the end credits) has about ten children.

I understand that a good number of the upper echelon in German government is from East Germany, and are still working at subjugating the West by the Soviet method of forcing aliens in on the population to destroy unity and culture.
Stalin started doing that, and even such "moderates" as Brezhnev did this as well.

Most of the elite of Europe are various shades of soviet indoctrinated socialists, and this has been the ploy to keep in power and get rid of all that messy uncontrolled involvement of the citizens in government.

It's not as bad as Audrey Hepburn being overdubbed in My Fair Lady. And Kwan is the only one. Everyone else belted out their own tunes, and there are some good ones. But suit yourself. Although you could probably find "Chop Suey" and "Don't Marry Me" on YouTube as well, which are fun songs with 100% Nancy Kwan-free content.

The movie is an interesting artifact of its time. The Chinese aspired to be too American for it to be "cool" today.

The most recent example of this was the Iranian revolution. The Communists allied with the Ayatollah to overthrow the Shah, then were ruthlessly exterminated by the Islamists.

But the Communists were only a small minority in Iran. There's no guarantee it would play out the same way on a global scale. Islam has religious fanaticism on its side, but the secular Left has modern technology on its side, which as we have seen, can be useful for mass extermination.

115 I was just thinking about this issue earlier.

On one hand, we have the First Amendment, specifically freedom of religion. I think most of us would agree that this is absolute and inviolable.

The roots of our nations can be found in people fleeing religious repression, sacrificing everything else in their life, risking perilous sea journeys, and choosing the uncertainty and risk of coming to a largely unestablished land where they were mor likely to starve or perish for lack of basic necessities for the chance at being free to worship as they saw fit.

At that time, the various religions of people who chose to come here were largely similar in their fundamental moral and societal underpinnings. For the most part, people were coming from similar backgrounds and, while th details might differ about their beliefs, there was a reasonably common thread about right and wrong.

Even absent the religious motivation, people shared a common belief that, left entirely to their own devices with odds stacked against them, having the chance to freely succeed or fail on their own was preferable to what was possible for them within the confines and structures of wherever they left.

This point can't be stated strongly enough, people left EVERYTHING in the full knowledge that they were coming to nothing. There was no "safety net". There were no employers. There were no unions or rights. There were not even systems in place to deliver water to them, ready made lumber or nails to build homes, or stores at which to acquire things that they had no skill or knowledge to produce on their own. In the truest sense, these people believed that they were better off entirely on their own.

That fundamental idea no longer exists. People risk relatively little to come the the United States, particularly in comparison to what they are leaving. The worst case scenairo choice is stay and starve or leave and, if you make it in, live for some time in some form of prison where you get 3 squares and a cot. The worst case end being unlikely, it is more likely that you will have access to job paying far more per day than you'd earn in a week or month if there were any employment available in your native land, you will have access to numerous private and public support structures and, failing all of that, you can live on the streets with no less than you left behind.

In short, people don't come to th United States for the chance at freedom, they come for the near guarantee of a better life.

Going back to religion, the First Amendement did not anticipate non western systems and ideas. It anticipated that everyone would pretty much agree that stoning and mutilating people was wrong and, while it didn't get alll the way there, it took first steps to say that there was at least some marginal difference between people and property. There wasn't a conflict between the religious belief of "thou shall not kill" and any other laws or traditions.

To deal with the present day immigration question, it will be necessary to determine if the First Amendment has limits, what those limits are. Man creates laws on the basis of their traditions and beliefs, which often go back centuries. If those centuries old structures, belief systems, and cultural norms ar fundamentally different than western norms, do we adjust the first amendment and maintain it and alter all the laws and ideas and traditions that come after it?

My opinion is that any solution must begin with complete dissolution of government social safety nets, entitlements, and the like. I recognize that this would have a substantial impact on virtually every American individual and household and many would experience a meaningful sense of loss. That is unfortunate but it is the core of nearly every major issue. Entitlement and rights to an every increasing array of stuff has resulted in the loss of entrepreneurial and pioneering spirit, created tens of trillions in debt that cannot be ever be reconciled, flattened advancement and innovation, inflated costs, and done absolutely nothing to improve the ratio of haves to have nots, unless in contrast to the increasing masses of people who no longer come here for freedom and the chance to pursue a better life, but instead, come for guaranteed minimums that exceed anything they could have done on their own regardless of freedom or opportunity.

You could make the case that this is largely what we had in the 70s and 80s. E.g. in New Orleans the two medical schools (Tulane and LSU) shared the big charity hospital that was named (unironically) Charity Hospital. Nobody with means really went to Charity. Long lines, busy ER's, waits for surgeries, much of the care provided by med students, interns and residents, but care was delivered. If it was paid for, it was Medicare, Medicaid and other gov't programs. Also subsidized (probably by the state of Louisiana) for non-paying customers.

So why did that system go away?

If anyone remembers Hillarycare from 1994, the big pitch was that it wasn't fair for anyone to have better care than anyone else. It made it a crime to have medical service outside the single payer system it set up.

Back in BBS days you would tell Lefties that and they would say that this was right-wing propaganda and then I would cut and paste from the legislation directly (bought the book of the proposal with the floppy disk included) and then they would call me mean or racist or something.

So, anyway, why the charity model went away, and why what I am proposing would be opposed is because it isn't "fair." As if it is somehow "fair" to make doctors accept Medicaid payments (which is significantly lower compensation) for the same service.

We had a similar setup in St. Louis. They called the regional public hospital... Regional Hospital.

Manned by med students, mostly from Washington University, which cranks out some fine doctors. They specialized in premie babies, and I don't think it is inaccurate to say they were better at it than the big private hospitals around the area, including Barnes, which was Wash U's main hospital. Or the children's hopsital... interestingly named Children's Hospital.

I think they went away because they became embroiled in fights over who, indeed, WAS supposed to pay for it. The city and county shared costs for a while, then they started arguing, and I'm sure the feds came in and mucked it up even more.

So... no more public hospital. Instead we have, Lord hep us, this.

Great comment overall.

The First Amendment was intended to prevent a recurrence of the religious wars in Europe between Catholics and Protestants, which were still pretty fresh in everyone's mind. The Founders never in their worst nightmares imagined that Muslims would come to the New World in great numbers.

Individual Muslims can be tolerated only when they are a very tiny minority in a society. Once Islam establishes a foothold, it makes increasing demands on the larger society, and enforces them with ever-increasing violence. Then all bets are off.

151 Simpler premise...

'Nice' has become the bottom line desire of Goody two shoes leftists... and many on the right as well...

Nice taken to extremes, is suicidal... its anti survival.

And the Left is forcing their view of 'nice' on us all... even to the point of enslaving workers through an income Tax system, to take the labor of those who have jobs, to pay for stuff for those who will not.

The problem is, we have reached the point where, 'its time to not be nice' (yes, snuck in a Roadhouse reference...)...

Health care - ours is far from ideal, being single payer plus a top up of private health insurance but it staggers along and I don't think we kill as many people here as the NHS does in the UK

And it's a Federal thing, all states here have the same Medicare tax and the same private health insurance rates. Everyone here is covered by Medicare to a certain extent - my GP bulk bills (she is paid by Medicare) and if I go to my local hospital without private insurance I'm still treated but I can't choose my doctor and I might be on a waiting list for a year for a hip replacement - with health insurance I can rock up to my local public hospital OR my private hospital of choice and get my hip replaced next week.

One thing we don't do here is employer paid health insurance (unless it's in a negotiated salary package )

It's fascinating to read about your system, and others around the world - I wonder how those one world government types will manage to control centralised health care covering the whole world ?

Normal women, well I don't believe they're that stupid. Every year, as feminists become more strident and anti-male, they turn off a larger percentage of normal women.

It would not surprise me at all to learn that there is also some ghastly psycho-sexual sadistic urge at work among those feminists/socialists who are all keen on Muslim immigration into Western European countries. It's as if (having reduced their native males to emasculated sitzsprinklers) they long to be brutally dominated by the exotic barbarian "other". Or see younger and prettier women be brutally dominated by the unashamedly masculine "Other" in some kind of psychic revenge.
---------------
Makes perfect sense to me. The ugly "Mean Girl" feminists wishing revenge on younger, prettier women.

I do find there to be some incongruence that I cannot quite explain to myself. Some of the more strident feminists I have encountered are very prominently sexy, to the point of going out of their way to wear the short skirts, and the hair all pron star styled, and the mousy frumpy ones are much more quietly on board with the sisterhood.

Eternal vigilance! Last weekend I was lamenting the silliness of the female parent of my grandchild wanting an unique name. I'm really big on tradition -- because then the poor kid has enough family baggage to overcome but it is appropriate and excusable. This whole nonsense of 'unique' names is making me nuts. It was before my time, but the song "Radio, Radio" got him banned from many radio stations, because it was so bitterly accurate in its portrayal of the music biz.

And songs like "Alison" are bittersweet, and you can hear the pain any man has known, if he has spent any amount of time in the dating scene.

But he got older, and I got older, and frankly I don't care about any of that stuff anymore. It's not at all interesting to me, to hear a 60 year old man sing about the girl that got away, or the culture he so doesn't fit into.

That would be funny, if Democrats, with their fanatical dedication to their stupid fake morality that always results in evil, were to convince the majority of atheists that morality was real and that Democrats were evil.

Democrats turn everything to shit. At this point, all this I think this justifies is that they are smooth talking con (wo)men, and that on *pragmatic* grounds, we should reject them. But the bizarre insanity that causes them to do things against their own interests gives me pause. I don't know - in 100 years, I'm guessing we'll have an analysis of how we went crazy.

No internet (at least not on a wide scale), no smart phones, no social media. You could easily exist in a universe where politics just didn't exist. And it was probably there, but I don't remember dealing with political shit everywhere I went. Like I could watch sports and not be lectured about racism every 5 seconds. 320 Is Shia Le Boeuf his real name? Weird combo

Posted by: Cosmic Charlie

From wikipedia:

LaBeouf was born in Los Angeles, California, as the only child of Shayna (née Saide) and Jeffrey Craig LaBeouf.[5] His mother is a dancer and ballerina turned visual artist and clothing jewelry designer.[6] His father is a Vietnam War veteran who had numerous jobs.[7][8][9][10] LaBeouf's mother is Jewish, and his father, who is of Cajun descent, is Christian. LaBeouf has described himself as Jewish,[11] and has stated that he was raised around "both sides"; he had a Bar Mitzvah ceremony, and was also baptized in the Angelus church.[12][13][14][15] One of the camps he attended was Christian.[16] His first name is derived from the Hebrew shai Yah, meaning "gift of God".[17]

Beouf means "Beef" in French, as in "Beouf Bourguinon".

So I guess Shia LaBeouf's name means "The Gift of God is Beef".

I thought it was bacon, but I'm not a theologian.

321 Novel Theory about Muslim Immigration [KT]

I have to disagree with this theory. I think it's totally wrong. Sure, the feminization of our politics has led to a dramatic veering to the left but what's happening with this new fad of pushing to import every muzzie in the world is something totally different. It isn't about feminization, per se.

It used to be that one of the main characteristics of a woman was that she would ruthlessly and selflessly defend her children. That was a huge part of being a mother - of being a woman. But, now, the idea that a Western mother would defend her children has become passe, or even worse. I don't think you could find five young people on the street who have ever even heard of such an idea.

The women of today (the lefty women, of course) are far more concerned with ruthlessly defending the enemies of their children. This is what has changed. The "motherly instinct" seems to have disappeared from our public discourse. I would venture that it came about as these lefty women have been trying to defend rampant abortions for convenience to themselves.

324 Pence? Wow, that's not good.

And Emanuel having this third Trump/WH meeting since the election is absurd, and sickening ("architect" of the O-care disaster).

And note how lazy the GOPe is - presumably a result of their confidence that their voters are still the saps they've been for years. Not even a head-fake, a gesture, toward actual politics - publicly documenting the damage and disaster of O-care (beyond the same old empty talking points), identifying fixes (for the most part, just going back to the pre-2014 situation), and tying your political opponents to the current misery and chaos.

So Trump exists primarily because the GOP has lost all credibility with enough voters. Now, even with Trump, the GOP provides a reminder of why it lacks credibility. If there are political/mechanical constraints on instant, simple repeal - and there probably are - FFS explain them in detail, and structure your attack to prove that you're serious. Make the Dems block your bold approach. Acknowledge that your "phased" approach, while perhaps realistic, is simply non-credible, given the GOP's performance.

Heard Mark Meadows on the radio. FFS, even the leader of the revolt, in his rhetoric, feels the need to talk about "safety nets" and making sure nobody is left behind blah blah blah - could be any Dem hack talking. Meanwhile, the only remaining national secret is intact - 10-20 million people grievously damaged by O-care, without insurance for the first time in their lives (cost), small businesses not formed or dissolved, etc.

Here's the test: I work for a company that is Lebanese, so most of the foreigners are Christian. But it also has a fair number of Muslims.

Here's the deal: They NEVER wash their feet in the sink, and whenever we have company parties, we always have alcohol and oysters and pork and various shellfish. And they all love it. So I have confidence these guys are ok. They care more about the company and not so much about their religion.

Posted by: Steve and Cold Bear at March 25, 2017 02:24 PM (vRcUp)

326 Too much over-thinking in that article.

The reason for the social-suicidal muslim influx is that the Davos crowd has decided that there will be no more war.

And who wages war effectively? The West.

And who have they had to lately wage it against becuz the muslims are going through one of their periodic violent jihadist expansions/jihadist crazy periods? Muslims.

How do you neutralize Western effectiveness at conducting war against 3rd World muslim jihadists?

You flood Western countries with a muslim fifth column, which will be able to now conduct effective jihadist/terrorist warfare within Western nations should they go to war.

That's it. Nothing more than that.

Our Betters want to eliminate war, or rather our ability to fight an effective war.

They are marxists and right now their man weapon is multiculturalism. Multiculturalism breaks a nation into pieces and makes national cohesion almost impossible. All they needed was a violent arm of multiculturalism and now they have imported it.

These people aren't that smart. You don't need to give them credit for 11 dimension chess.

But, the article is useful in pointing out why there has been no defense of European children, wives, grandmothers against the rape and violencefest going on over there.

Ineffectual European leftist pussymen is the correct answer.

Now, ask yourself - why the sudden surge by the Left to tar all heterosexual Western men as rapists and potential rapists?

What we in the West do not understand, is that there actions are perfectly aligned with what they believe is 'good'.

Their Culture, and Religion, are both telling them those actions are not just OK, but will be rewarded in Heaven...

They are not insane... they know right from wrong... its just that their definition of what is 'right' is not ours...

335 I think it is a simple matter of following the money. The Arab states, or Middle-Eastern states, where these dregs originate, have the wherewithal to bribe or threaten, with money, any Western state that does not allow those Muslim states to cast off their dregs. They have it made there. They don't really have to work for their money, they just pump it out of the ground. It's a very high-margin business and so they can afford to use cash to cajole Western countries into taking their home-grown problems off of their hands.

I was really surprised that the Freedom Caucus held strong on this. I didn't have much faith in that group. It was many of the members of the Freedom Caucus, if we recall, that turned at the last minute and voted for Paul Ryan for Speaker, even though everyone and his brother knew that Ryan was a lowlife POS and that he was nothing but a Boehner retread - which was immediately proven true with that insane spending bill he shoved through the minute he got in to let Barky skate for the duration of his illegitimate term and to take any budget (or lack of budget) issues out of the 2016 campaign.

But no one gives a shit about me - a normal health insurance customer who buys in the individual market. And the fact that me health records are now being centralized and made available to various government turds makes it all 1000 times worse.

But the "source" site seemed credible, and had specific factoids confidently reported. Unless they're just making it up. But it said Emanuel had met Trump in December, and there was one other meeting back pre-Jan. 20, and now another one at the WH soon.

Again, unless just plain disinformation - pretty gob-smacking. Even (the pretty stupid) Trump affection for welfare elements muddling the power of insurance - er, "pre-existing conditions" crap - and the even dumber 26-yr old children thing don't exactly require "experts" (esp. discredited ones) to explain them. Just push those incredibly stupid things, if you want.

Posted by: rhomboid at March 25, 2017 02:36 PM (QDnY+)

341 Yep. I've still got insurance .. but barely. And I can't even really use it for anything. My co-pays are now what a cash office visit should cost and my deductible is twice what it was before BarkyCare (which is what I now get for premiums that are over twice what they were). But no one gives a shit about me - a normal health insurance customer who buys in the individual market. And the fact that me health records are now being centralized and made available to various government turds makes it all 1000 times worse.

Absolutely no need to "sweeten the pot" by adding some stupid Dem priority like infrastructure spending.

O-care was never popular, was so unpopular its passage helped ravage the Dems' national political standing, and is even less popular now.

It's as one-sided a political issue as there has been in my lifetime. Thus my astonishment and dismay at the idiotic stuff we're seeing.

And if they had just been honest and said look man, we can't do this shit. It sucks, we wish we could, we'd love to, but we just can't. 354 DaveA, I doubt there is anyone (incl. Sessions) who even recognizes the constitutional system is in tatters, and judicial usurpation has now reached new extremes. There appears to be no ability to actually think among the legal types - they are trapped in a completely obsolete and irrelevant box of mindless deference to judicial supremacy.

I'd offer a hypothetical "straw that breaks the camel's back" situation - say, a judge counter-manding a presidential order to military units - in order to draw the lines more brightly - but there's no need.

This immigration EO crap IS as outrageous, and as baseless, and in the long run possibly as consequential, as something like that - which would be so outlandish even some legal types might murmur the words "judicial lawlessness" and "constitutional breakdown".

But it's being handled like some court put a hold on development of in-holder's logging leases in national forest land, or something. Just another day at the august and non-chaotic default system where "courts have the last say" (contrary to the constitution and common sense).

And speaking about over thinking things.

Yeeeesh.

This song is from "Flower Drum Song" a musical by Rogers and Hammerstein.

The time is the late 50s, early 60s when Asian Americans were just starting to go mainstream.

The story is one of Old Country values and first generation coming into conflict with the 2nd and 3rd generation who hold American values.

Twenty years earlier it would've been the Irish or Italian or Jewish family who was the subject of the musical.

And R&H always had a social message in their musicals- in this case, that Asian-Americans make look like they're from the exotic orient -

but, hey, they're just Americans like me or you.

So, the song is nothing more than that- a beautiful American girl singing about loving the fact that she's a beautiful American girl and able to date who she wants and who hopes to get married one day to a great American guy.

Though there is a social context to the song - the song itself literally has no subtext or hidden context beyond the lyrics.

A beautiful American girl loves being a beautiful American girl.

358 neverskankles, you're wrong to just accept that no entitlement can ever go away. The O-care entitlement is going away, on its own, as we speak. Insurers withdrawing from the system. The "system" financially unraveling.

And again, I know it's a secret to anyone not directly affected, and Americans of all stripes now view everything in terms - only - of how it affects THEM, in the NEXT 20 minutes - but millions and millions of people (like TPOP in this thread) have to go without insurance for the first time in their lives or are getting financially hollowed out or have had their small biz situation effed up by the *destruction of markets*, not by any new entitlement.

Another missing sign of seriousness by the admin. would be for Price to have already gone public with the "hardest" numbers HHS can get on O-care enrollments, and also on damage to the individual/small group sector. Those numbers would show (according to the best outside estimates) that the "beneficiaries" of the new "entitlement" number 1/4 to 1/5 those negatively affected - with the ratio worsening even further as O-care is shrinking.

This is a one-sided issue. Obviously so. Which is why the smallness, irresponsibility, and dishonesty of the GOP (and possibly the administration) is so blazingly obvious.

362 I think the FC and a lot of other people killed this bill thinking that next time, they'd be included In the drafting of the next O-care fix. Looks like that was wrong, which doesn't surprise me, given the echo chamber that is DC. Yeah the bill was shit, but I'm willing to believe that Trump was serious about his plan. Now he's going to put plan B in place which, given Pence ripping the FC, seems to be to freeze out the FC and conservatives and compromise with the Dems. The Ryan bill was as conservative as it was going to get and would have set the stage for more reforms. Now, we'll still get the R's taking effective ownership, but without anything conservative, like Bloc granting Medicaid, removing minimum coverage (the real reason for the collapse of the individual market IMHO).

366 "Getting rid of a entitlement is a political death wish and the Democrats and media will remind you every chance they get."

Posted by: DaveA at March 25, 2017 03:32 PM (FhXTo)

368 The entitlement "benefits" an invisibly small segment of the electorate. The damage afflicts a significant chunk of the electorate (who are also much higher on the political participation scale).

Yet it is beyond the intellectual capacity or political skill and courage of anyone to separate these two things (which have zero financial or functional linkage otherwise), fix the disaster, and let the "entitlement" whither and disintegrate on its own?

This is "hard" to do, politically?

Trump and his team, who pretend to care about and understand economic growth, are just going to let this huge obscene anchor lie around the necks of 10s of millions - and, crucially, the small biz sector, source of most job-creation - and move on to tax cuts for a govt. awash in red ink and with an ever-shrinking number of citizens on the tax rolls?

Posted by: rhomboid at March 25, 2017 03:32 PM (QDnY+)

369 So destroying a normal and important part of the financial picture for 10-20 million is no big deal, but ending an entitlement for 5 million is a "political death wish"?

A policy nobody wanted, whose adoption caused the greatest shift in partisan power, nationally, in our history, which remains unpopular, and is directly linked to novel financial misery for millions is untouchable?

These are rhetorical questions, in the Twilight Zone we now appear to inhabit.

371 Right, it's all about the money. If they turn health care over to the free market all the cronies lose their big fat cut. The only winner would be the American people.

The two parties are wholly owned subsidiaries of Lobbyists and the big money interests they represent. There are no parties. It's We The People and PDT (hopefully) vs Them - the Dems and Pubbies - the UniParty.

What an observation!: What's so utterly disgraceful, is not just that Republicans failed so miserably, but that they barely tried, raising questions about whether they ever actually wanted to repeal Obamacare in the first place. http://preview.tinyurl.com/kjpgrhj - He then rambles in the weeds of assumption that we have two separate parties devoid of any heavy external influence.

CTH, however, has taken the time to elaborate on the big money influences on Dims and demPubbies. How it unifies them into one party of self interest against We The People and PDT's goals. - http://preview.tinyurl.com/zcpyo9u

376 Simply put, Western European countries especially are going broke. They need more taxpayers to prop up their Nanny States because their native populations have stopped having kids, a natural consequence when the state swoops between 50-70% of your paycheck for showing up. So they encourage immigration so that they can get more taxpayers. The thought of maybe giving away less free stuff and possibly telling the voters that they are better off getting their own goodies hasn't occurred to them; or if it has, gives them visions of mobs with pitchforks coming to get them (Nanny States that give away the store tend to generate populations of adolescents who only look adult; see France for a good example). That immigration has consequences doesn't occur to the State because the ONLY thing they care about is that they need money, and more taxpayers, NOW.

And until we recognize that fact, we will never be able to solve this problem....

Very good. That's why Obama is a Commie on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays, and an Islamist on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays. And on Sunday he rested by taking weird selfies of his weird self.

Other aspects besides the femmy-ness noted at Chicago Boys include the thought, at least originally, that new blood would pay the bills. What a joke that wa$.

Some of it is the hippie dream of a borderless world, typified by the COEXIST bumpersticker. They never notice that its largely one letter that can't seem to get along with all the others--and its not the Star of David. This thinking predates the "I'd Like To Buy the World a Coke"-commercial by thousands of years--at the Tower of Babel.

For some, its virtue-signaling run amok. For others, it seems to be cultural suicide. They're so empty inside that they crave extinction and hope to drag the rest of us with them. No thanks.

Somebody once said no one ever volunteered to be a slave. I don't think that's true anymore. Those mobs screaming at the airports come to mind.
