The Morning Report 3/20/17

Starb.jpg

Good morning, kids. It's the start of another week and it promises to be a big one for President Trump and the nation. Confirmation hearings for Neil Gorsuch begin today and you can bet the lies and smears hurled at him from the Democrats are bound to make those hurled at Robert Bork pale in comparison. And on Thursday, the House is set to vote on Ryno-Care. I have no idea what the final bill looks like, that is if the Freedom Caucus was able to strip out the phony dreck and replace it with genuine free market incentives, but the outcome may determine the fate of Paul Ryan and, more importantly, if we really can end a freedom-killing "entitlement" (is something that takes money from you and can kill you really an entitlement?). Anyway, links from around the world, across the nation and up your street. Have a better one and remain blessed.

12 Morning, 'rons and 'ronettes.

Yesterday I was watching a 2009 Robert Osborne interview of Ernest Borgnine, when EB told a story I hadn't heard before:

During the filming of 1967s The Dirty Dozen, Borgnine and co-star Lee Marvin were sitting together between takes, just chatting, when another actor walked by.

He took a look at the two and said, "I wonder what two Academy Award-winning actors have to talk about?"

Without missing a beat, Marvin shot back, "You'll never know."

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

What's annoying is that the less partisan/more practical Democratic constituents of these RINOs are likely to recognize that keeping them in office as "zombie incumbents" may be worth as much, if not more, than beating them with an actual D. So, cleaning house in 2018 might turn out to be nearly impossible...

Breslin was a New York City icon, most notably for his coverage of Son of Sam during those dreadful years he was on the loose (Berkowitz communicated to the cops via letters to Breslin). That said, he completely turned me off when he wrote a horrible column bemoaning the transformation of Times Square when the last porn theater closed down. His waxing poetic about the drug addicts, muggers, pimps and hookers was the end for me.

But, in his heyday, he covered the Apple like few others.

RIP

The arts aren't a Federal matter. Any time the states or cities want to fund the arts, they're perfectly free to do so. Where are the fully-funded, year-round opera companies and orchestras in progressive satrapies like New York, Chicago and San Francisco?

(I've been making this argument for years on classical music blogs and have never gotten a response).

61 Another success story:

ST. LOUIS An Aldi security guard on Saturday shot and killed a shoplifting suspect who allegedly pointed a gun at him, police said.

The guard confronted the man at the grocery store at 3619 Natural Bridge Avenue about 7:19 p.m. When that man pulled a gun and pointed it at the guard, the guard retreated, but the man continued walking toward the guard, police said.

That's when the guard pulled his gun and fired several shots at the shoplifting suspect, hitting him at least three times. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

But the guy had so much potential, couldn't the security guard see that, was turning his life around.

Imagine the open cheers and dancing in the streets from the Dems if something like that were to happen to Barron now.

107 Meals On Wheels - I was a driver for them 20 years ago. We were all volunteers who worked one day every two weeks. Our town is suburban and has a population large enough to need 3 drivers per day and had enough volunteers to manage just fine.

Then the city got the bright idea that they wanted to have paid drivers who worked M-F. Why? I never did find the answer to that, but it did not work out well. 3 hours per day at just over minimum wage resulted in difficulty finding and retaining reliable help.

Go back to the volunteers who enjoyed delivering and took the job seriously. That should save more than the estimated 3% cut. The seniors enjoyed seeing a variety of people also instead of the same one - 5 folks a week to tell their latest story to!

Aldi's is just about the only chain willing to put stores in crappy neighborhoods. Watch - the BLM scum will "protest" at the store ie wreck it. And then liberals will whine about how "food deserts" in the inner city make it impossible for people to eat healthy.

160 Sorry to hear that Cicero.

I imagine the quality varies a great deal from city to city. I know they all get to plan their own menus within certain dietary guidelines as what my grandmother in a different town was served on any given day was not the same as what we were delivering.

Our town is lucky to have top notch kitchen facilities where the food is cooked fresh, not microwave type products.

192 We went to see Chicago last night in downtown Greenville. What a phenomenal show. We were just a few feet from the stage, so my head is still ringing this morning. On that note, I did have to semi wonder...when they played Dialogue, they had a video montage behind them. Kinda old school SJW stuff. Then came the presidents. Several very flattering pics of Barry with the words "elected!" flashing behind his sh*t-eating grin, followed by a succession of his predecessors down to JFK. Either the montage was old and they haven't updated it yet, or they aren't going to acknowledge our Russian elected president at all. Nonetheless, I was blown away by the show...literally.

210 The progressive base has been set up for anger induced rage at their own politicians by their own politicians.

Gorsuch is going to be the next SCOTUS justice. It's going to happen, and McConnell won't even need to invoke the Reid Rule to make it happen. And the left has been working itself into a frenzy since the election with the idea that Trump won't be able to place anyone on the Court at all.

And, now Democratic lawmakers are telling their base not to expect any sort of actual connection between Trump and Russia? This frenzy was much larger than the SCOTUS thing. People honestly believe that Trump is illegitimate as POTUS because of this "connection", and they've been stewing over the idea since before the election. And now their representatives in Congress are telling them that there's nothing there?

Holy shit, the Democratic primaries in 2018 are going to be fun.

Yep, there are quite a few of them. Produce, bulk section, and meat/fish selection are nice. Their pre-marinaded pork chops are great for grilling - nothing you couldn't do yourself, but they're cheap enough that you don't need to bother. Challah at the bakery sometimes, which is nice. Dr. Bronner's liquid peppermint soap in the 55 gallon drum size.

I've never seen lamb there, though, which is odd because the butcher shop is pretty well-stocked otherwise. I also don't like how it got there - the property owner jacked the lease on Goodrich's Shop-Rite, which had been there for like 50 years so they could bring Fresh Thyme in.

Her pursuit of the nomination will further fracture the party. Those loyal to Clinton, who apparently largely man the DNC even if they did lose their Clintonista head, will fight for her because of their loyalty to her and the promise of patronage. The progressive wing will reject her even harder than last time. The Obama wing will fight tooth and nail against her.

Oh...it could be fun.

If the weather is bad, everything will be inside the barn. Then I could do a heeled shoe. Maybe I can buy two pairs and choose the one appropriate to the weather that day. yAY - More shoe shopping!

It'll actually be an open field, because the DNC won't be able to block out anyone else.

Too many people have been holding off since 2012. For some of these office holders like Andrew Cuomo, their prime time spot could have been 2016, but they chose to stay out because their best shot, according to the DNC, was Clinton.

They're not going to listen again. It's going to be a huge primary field, akin to the Republican field in 2016.
