Yeah, me too. I've never smoked pot, and I can count the number of times I've been drunk on one hand and have fingers left over. But I know people who partake of the weed, and I prefer their company when they're stoned over people who are sloshed.

I always felt the same, but what holds me back is that the people I know who are dead set agains legalization of pot are people who had alcoholic parents. Their concern is that if pot is legalized, problems with its over-use will become as common as alcoholism.
When I was in college I noticed that people who used it on a daily basis tended to become useless bums. As getting stoned regularly becomes more common we'll have more people living off welfare and disability.

As I said on another thread today, watch Judge Judy for awhile and look at the number of people living off disability. She's had whole families of 3 or more adults all getting disability.

The one I have is from Cabelas and it was about $120. The good ones start at about 300 to 500 dollars.
My husband said we don't need it. I may ask for one for Christmas.
The guy that has the cattle had one in the back and he had pics of lions and golden eagles.
I have photos of red and grey foxes, skunks, possums, coyotes, many raccoons, and feral cats. Maybe a bobcat/kitty.

The Natives here still prefer booze and they still panhandle relentlessly at the big intersections. Pot hasn't changed that one iota.
Honestly, I doubt these shops are seeing any more business than they had before they went legit. And I doubt they are making any more money, but now they pay rent and insurance on top of production costs. I'll reserve judgement for a year, but I doubt 2/3 of them will be extant when I look again.

I consider this a bad choice. If you're hard up for a decent job today and you can train up to drive a truck quickly, it doesn't matter if it only lasts a few years. You can spend your off time planning your next move while doing the job and making a living. Unless you can afford to be a full time student and think you have a career enabling field of study to pursue, take what is offered and save up as much money as you can in preparation of when you need a cushion to move on to your next gig.

There's some ordinance on the books (originally passed by ballot proposition) that requires anything and everything with cancer causing agents in it to post a notice stating such. The problem is that the values required are so low that the signs are pretty much everywhere, making them largely useless. Go into the supermarket, and there's a sign at each entrance alerting you to the fact that unnamed things inside the store are known to cause cancer.

Since state law conflicts with federal law, and in this case federal law takes precedence, any real estate that is leveraged with an fdic insure bank can have their loan technically called immediately should they lease to the marijuana trade. So you only see pot shops in facilities that are free and clear. Now THOSE facilities may have heavy demand and push out other businesses, but what percentage of strip malls and other retail properties are NOT leveraged?
Someone else can do the math here but my guess is Cracked didn't bother cause narrative...ya know.

There's a place that has big rigs pull in and unload on my usual path home. I've learned to look ahead when I'm approaching and spot whether a big rig is trying to back into the docks from the street. If I see one, I turn and go around the block.
If I don't turn and go around the block, then there's a good chance I'm going to be stuck waiting for a good ten minutes while the truck tries to get lined up with and pull into the loading dock, all while blocking the street I'm trying to drive down.

Tenderized round steak. Dredge it in flour mixed with some salt and pepper. Pan fry it till cooked well. Remove from pan.
Gravy:
Sprinkle a couple of tablespoons of flour in the pan. If you had a lot of grease, remove some. You want a couple of tablespoons grease to go with the flour. Cook this for a couple of minutes. You don't want it to get too brown. Add milk, maybe a cup, depending on the amount of gravy you want. Stir until the gravy thickens. Add salt and pepper to taste.

And yeah, it's amusing. A few years ago I was with a group that met up to discuss a bunch of propositions on the ballot that year here in California. One of them was for warning labels for GMOs. The person arguing against the labels pointed out that it would be just like the cancer labels, which are a joke. The guy arguing for the GMOs (who I personally think is a clueless idiot in real life - at one point, he had an actual hammer and sickle as his Facebook avatar) tried to claim in all seriousness that the cancer warnings were useful (and knowing him, he probably sincerely believed every last word that came out of his mouth).
Speaking of plastic bags, I noticed that my local supermarket has plastic bags at the checkout stand again, although they're thicker and heavier than the old ones.
Also, I've told the malathion story here in the past, but it bears repeating. Back when California starting spraying Los Angeles for the Mediterranean Fruit Fly, Los Angeles found out that malathion had been discovered to cause cancer. So they rushed to court to get an order to get the spraying halted.
Unfortunately, they neglected to wait and figure out exactly how likely malathion was to cause cancer. It turned out that ordinary dirt was more likely than the pesticide. Needless to say, the suit didn't succeed.

These malls are not the A level malls, and probably not even the B level malls. These are the malls that have been owned by a union pension fund for years.
The other buildings are usually former fast food places that the chain has moved out of, and the owner just wants someone in there paying rent. These buildings have been paid off for years, and the owners don't mind being paid in cash.

Jury duty, when notified that I was in the pool for prospective jurors, I called the prosecutor's direct phone number every day asking if I was required to report for jury duty.
After a few such calls, my name never again made the list. Don't know why.

They've streamlined it a lot here in California. Both sides have to submit a list of questions to the judge beforehand. So no more taking an hour just to question one juror about stuff.
Still doesn't keep them from dismissing a ridiculous number of jurors, though. I had one instance where they had to call in a second group of jurors because they couldn't fill the box even after going through the first (i.e. my) group of jurors. I was the last person from my group before they started questioning people from the second group. And instead of dismissing me outright (given the perfectly true info I gave, the only reason for them to keep me around was if they thought I was going overboard in my info in an attempt to get out of the jury box), the defense attorneys waited around until first thing the next day.

My time in Berkeley, California came well after the Free Speech movement and just after Patty Hearst was kidnapped. But it did include paraquat spraying of pot growing areas, the Mediterranean Fruit Fly spraying, the People's Temple massacre, the Milk and Moscone murders and a campus overrun by UFW mrmbers urging us to vote for some proposition or another.

It's up to the particular judge, but most give each side six peremptories. You can boot up to six without cause.
The reality is that the system is set up to discourage the use of peremptories. They use a method that lets you know in advance who will take the seat of the juror that you bumped. Usually, even if the one in the box is bad, the one who will replace him/her is worse. You wind up just making do.

I got called in January of 2015, they wouldn't allow us to bring any kind of electronic device. The only thing we could bring was a book or newspaper, that's it.
Every day for 3 weeks I had to call after 6pm to find out if we were going in the next day. Here in Virginia, the Friday before MLK Day is also a holiday, so the state government is closed. The Court never told us that they would be closed, and the wife and I had to pass up going to visit my sister that weekend. We could have done it if they had told us that the court was closed.
We finally are given instructions to report, so we come down, sit for 3 hours, and the clerk looks into the room and asks why we are there. Turns out, the two sides had settled the afternoon beforehand and never instructed the court that we weren't needed. The clerk was pissed. One because we had to show up, and two because they had to pay us. The next week we were excused from jury duty for the rest of the month.

As far as we can tell, he's doing very well. The lung cancer? Turned out to be some very odd variety of pneumomia. The thyroid thing remains a mystery, but it's not cancer, so far. They say we should probably have a bunch of it removed, but it's not urgent. That's a topic that burns my ass. They totally exist. So many friends of mine got to where I didn't even recognize them because of the women in their life. Every thing that mattered to them went right in the toilet. Musicians, motorcycle dudes, car heads...all gone, stick a fork in them, they're done.

Talked my way out of the 2nd Microsoft anti-trust trial (thank gawd) by mostly-truthfully explaining to Judge Something-Kotelly that I had int'l travel plans commencing the next week.
Most recently was tossed during voir dire in a comically unimpressive courtroom. Medical malpractice case. Both I and another potential juror (a UC professor, to my astonishment) both commented that we didn't find a jury trial an appropriate forum for such cases (judge just looked puzzled, and asked some stupid questions).
Several of us corrected the judge and the defense attorney on terminology at various points. Poor plaintiff's attorney was barely functioning, bumbling around, being helped by the judge and defense just to do her stuff (looked like her first trial).
As I walked out I said to the bailiff "what the hell is going on here?" - he barely suppressed a laugh, but not a smile, shook his head and said "don't ask me!".

I'd agree with this to a certain point. It's also why women don't like polygamy.
Biologically speaking, a woman's purpose in life is to have children. She also instinctively wants her children to have the best chance for survival. So she wants her children to be the ONLY children a man is supporting.
In today's terms that translates into a monogamous man of certain means. A child of a wealthy man will probably have a better life, better medical care and a chance at a better future than a child of a poor man. Of course, people mess that dynamic up all the time, but from a biological standpoint, I think it's generally true.
However, the concept of looking for someone better after you're married and have kids? Seems like a lot of work to me.

I'm only going from personal experience on this so bear with me.
If I'm very upset with my husband, I need a few minutes to cool off so I can speak rationally. He wants to talk about it immediately. I have to tell him, give me a minute to calm down, then we can discuss whatever the problem is and both of us have calmed down.
I have a hard time understanding the silent treatment for an extended time period.
If someone won't talk to you, how can you come to any sort of resolution? If you approach a woman that's angry and quiet using those techniques I don't see any end to the argument. Just one upping.
I would advise telling the person giving the silent treatment,
I can see you're upset, I'll go for a walk, drive around the block, etc., let you cool off and when you're ready to talk we'll discuss it.
I don't see the other suggestions being very successful.

Been a few days since I watched this, but I liked it because she doesn't dwell on the evils of Westboro as much as assumes them, and then simply states her upbringing in that cult, and her coming to an emancipating enlightenment through honest discussions with others online.
About 9:00 in the 15-minute video, she lists what she learned from these enlightening discussions, and she lists her guidelines for clearer communications, which are simple and should be obvious but are really profound.
Don't assume bad intent.
Ask questions.
Stay calm.
Make the argument.

Lasers do not allow a cat to catch anything and can build up frustration in a cat. And when a cat is frustrated, one's arms and legs pay the price. So when you find THE toy which gets your cat's juices flowing, and he or she captures and kills it, remember that kill chomp just saved your skin from some puncture holes, possibly an infection and even a trip to the ER. A play toy which allows for 'capture' and 'kill' is much cheaper than a visit to the ER.

Those guys are having too much fun. Small sparks from the exhaust are no big deal. You get a buildup of carbon on the underside of the exhaust valve heads, and years of idleness allow a little rust to form and loosen those deposits. Start the engine, and those carbon deposits flake off, and come barreling out of the exhaust, glowing, because carbon burns in air, if hot enough.
That's why off-road vehicles have spark arrestors in their tailpipes.

Then he buys another round for the house, and he wandered around the bar, and stopped by me. I said, "So, you are with a band? Musician, or one of the crew?" He said, "I'm a guitar player. Did you watch the Grammies?" Me: "No, I don't watch TV at all." "Well, I have played with a lot of bands, Clapton, etc. etc." I was about to ask if he had played with Jeff Healey, but his wingman slapped some sunglasses onto him, and hustled him out of the bar.
I just know I have seen him before, and that he is indeed a famous rock guitarist, but I just can't place him. Weird, but cool.

It's common practice to use a spray can of ether (aka QuickStart) to start recalcitrant engines, both Diesel and gasoline. Big flames out the exhaust are common, as the ether that didn't ignite in the first few revolutions of the engine gets ignited when the first cylinder to fire does so.
You can also use ether to bead a tubeless tire that is giving you trouble. Set the lower bead in good contact with the rim, and spray a healthy shot of ether into the inside of the tire. I use a wad of paper on a long wire, set alight, to touch off the ether. You get a loud Whoomp! and both beads of the tire snap onto the rim, so you can air it up. I have done it several times; never fails.

After Trump won the election, I noticed how upset most of the commenters were being that most were anti-Trumpers. I posted how butt hurt they seemed suggesting that a couple of 55 gallon barrels of Preparation H should do the trick. That comment was gone within 60 seconds and I was blocked. The Hill people are extremely . . . sensitive. Sensitive, yeah, that's the word.
The Hill could pass for DailyKos in their group think and persistence to preserve their safe space. A waste of a website if you ask me.

Same active ingredients; just more of them. And this was circa 1990; pot has gotten stronger since then. Being a life-long non-smoker, I could never really inhale pot, as smoked.
I'm just taking issue with the "benign herb" bullshit. It can fuck you up, like alcohol, or opiates, or tobacco. Not necessarily to the same degree.

I agree pot is much stronger today. And I'll bet the hash is weaker.
Smoking pot is like doing shots, the effects are pretty quick. Eating pot-laced food is like having three martinis. The first two, no problem. But that third silver bullet hits you like a ton of bricks.

We texted a pot delivery service, and when the exceedingly polite young multi-racial delivery guy showed up, he said "there's a little bonus in the bag. Like a Crackerjacks prize."
The "little bonus" turned out to be a small chunk of hash. Niagara Falls throws up a LOT of mist, and they had colored lights on the falls, so we're wandering around through this colorful mist, ogling the broadcast and cable news personalities (we were right near the press area) and then watching Wallenda walk over on the wire. I remember the ABC guy saying, as Wallenda started off, "Walking into the night, walking into the mist, walking into history." I got goosebumps. It was pretty wild.

Interesting testimony during the process where opposing Council members pointed out that if the minimum wage goes up, city employees also get an automatic raise due to the union pay schedule being linked to minimum wage.
And that the new Living Wage will cost the city hundreds of millions of dollars, if implemented.
It was just interesting to see that argument emerge during testimony.
