It was a real adventure and If any of our senators or congressmen went through it once they would have a different attitude toward Mexico. The Mexican Government uses its vast military and police forces to keep its citizens intimidated and compliant. They never protest at their White House or government offices but do protest daily in front of the United States Embassy. The US embassy looks like a strongly reinforced fortress and during most protests the Mexican Military surround the block with their men standing shoulder to shoulder in full riot gear to protect the Embassy. These protests are never shown on US or Mexican TV. There is a large public park across the street where they do their protesting. Anything can cause a protest such as proposed law changes in California or Texas.
Though people DID protest the Mexican government in January over gasoline prices. Once you start subsidies, it's hard to stop them.
In related news, in blasting the Republican plan to "dismantle" Obamacare, Kamala Harris accidentally let it slip that 50% of children in California are on Medicaid. California has a higher GDP than the rest of the nation, yet needs federal help for Medicaid? Does this affect plans for secession, or for Sanctuary State status?Comments

Tourism has increased significantly, and business is great. It seems that all of those who are boycotting NC have actually made it a more attractive place.

I did quit drinking almost 6 months ago, which was the best thing I've done in decades. I think I was every bit as bad as the shrieking SJWs of late. And that only pushes people away! I still have my opinions, but I'm not as confident about them as I was. I'm trying to have more empathy for everyone. Lately my daughter has been talking about a boy in her AP Physics class, so maybe she's coming around.

There is proof that it *cannot* be genetic: there are cases of identical twins (ie. exact same DNA) where one is gay and one is not.
So I would guess that it's the case that genetics can predispose people towards becoming gay under certain cases, as when some people are molested and turn out gay, and some are molested and do not.
Similarly, genetics can predispose you alcoholism, but those genes don't make you drunk.

I'm just trying to manage it for the benefit of the rest of my family. Add in all the death, moves, and job losses and it's a wonder I haven't stroked out already.

Psychiatrists throw bipolar as a diagnosis for kids, because there's medicine for that.
However... one school of thought is that bipolar, the REAL organic condition, does NOT manifest itself until early 20s, at the earliest.
So, any child with the diagnosis has been mis-diagnosed.
DBT is the treatment of choice for teens with the various emotional disorders. Works extraordinarily well, when it's applied consistently.

Their idea of treatment is... 'here, try this, are you better, or worse'....

Presuming that you're straight, imagine someone offers you $5,000 if you'll engage in a months-long gay relationship. Romantic dinners, funny movies, long walks, eye gazing, all that stuff. Oh, and also some knob-slobbering or carpet-munching, as the case may be. Would you do it?
I wouldn't, because the thought of it is uncomfortable to repulsive to me. I don't think I could fake it. Even when I was, say 7 years old and had no clue about any of this, I knew that sitting next to a girl was kind of exciting and sitting next to a boy wasn't.
Maybe there's a genetic connection, maybe it's upbringing, maybe it's an underwear ad in the K-mart circular when they were little, but I really don't think that, for the most part, they're faking it.

I've hung out with some of the guys from my class who came out after graduating. They said things like going taking to school dances with girls were awkward and they just wanted to leave, which sounds pretty much how I'd feel if I were pressured to go to a dance with a dude in some alternate universe of gaytopia where that was the expected thing. This was in an overwhelmingly Dutch Christian midwest city too, and they weren't rebellious or trying to freak out the squares or whatever.
I don't doubt that some confused kids want to play gay to be rebellious or whatever, just that I'm fairly convinced that a certain number of people are just wired that way, for whatever reason, and pretty much have been all throughout history. And whatever wired them that way wasn't some kind of Manchurian Candidate media blitz.

He was actually shot down twice, but survived the first one. He left an account of it. He was attacking a flight of FE2d two-seat pusher aircraft, slow and rather obsolete craft by that time, and manned by Royal Flying Corp (the British army airforce) aircrews as green as grass (this was the spring of 1917, Bloody April IIRC). The FEs had formed up in a circle to protect each other's tails, and Richtofen was about 300 yards out, manuevering for position, when one of the inexperienced British gunners opened up from far out of effective range. Richtofen wrote that he was just thinking something to the effect of "you poor so-and-so, wasting your ammo like that," when WHAM, he was suddenly blind, paralyzed, and plummeting earthward. A .303 bullet had clipped his forehead. He managed to recover enough to crash-land, but had a chunk of bone missing from his forehead and was out of action for several months.
The FEs were rescued from the rest of his squadron by the arrive of the Royal Naval Air Service's "black flight" of Sopwith Triplanes, one of the few British aircraft capable of taking on the Albatros DIII on equal terms (and the inspiration for the Fokker Triplane later on...). We actually know the name of the British aircrew that got Richtofen, but I don't remember right now.

I don't belong to a travel organization but thanks for the heads up. I usually don't clash with people on womens ordination because I simply don't argue with them on it and haven't for years. :^) As I am not seeking ordination in churches that don't ordain women, it's not as issue for me. I even have had friendly conservation with my friend the Eastern Orthodox Priest. We just agree it is a complicated matter. The only time I have gotten irritated is when people have told me that I*'m going to hell because I'm "pretending to be a pastor" Now i just laugh and say, " Gotten a promotion? Who gave you the keys to the Kingdom?."
