Saturday Morning Weird News Dump

sat weird.jpg

Morons are different. Aren't they?

'Morning Morons.

Here are a few things that didn't get too much attention here at the AoSHQ this past week.

Well that wraps up another week of weird news. If you don't care to discuss these, feel free to start something in this open thread.

There are two rules, no running with sharp objects and no talking with your mouth full. It also doesn't hurt to play nice with the others.

15 21st century problem, I guess

https://is.gd/uzIW7U

above is a link to a church in Scotland that offers not just sermons but Eucharist over the internet, with persons at home using whatever bread and wine they might have at hand.

First, is that valid? Then, does that constitute worship of an image? Then, how necessary is corporeal worship? Having a community?

On the whole it just strikes me as wrong wrong wrong.

16 Hi, y'all! Jest want to let you'ns all know about my twin set of books comin' out about relationships in the 20th Century, soon to be all over Amazon!

The books are "And still, she resisted: how these things start" and "You might wanna put some ice on that: The Aftermath"! Should be a hoot for you all Morons, I'm sure!

Even on a Saturday. Impressive.

I do recall, from living in California long ago, that businesses generally got going earlier in the mornings because of the need to talk to east coasters.

This was a long time ago, before Al Gore's amazing internet, as Chris Plante calls it.

22 hey bluebell

Mrs is doing OKish. I think her health is still unstable in that she's having more cramps, backaches, shortness of breath, etc that point towards preeclampsia but the docs are still saying No no everythings fine. Drives me crazy. I expect the baby's going to be early in any case, since its all fine unril it isn't fine then surprise let's have an emergency c-section. I'm giving odds on 2 weeks.

Lots of gun fire = 12 counts of Aggravated Assault

Posted by: grammie winger at March 18, 2017 08:26 AM (lwiT4)

28 Bigby, all those things are also indicative of late pregnancy, so I hope that's all it is. I know you've been through this before.

I'm keeping her in my prayers, and do let us know when you all have your baby.

I know you're in the health field and probably know more about this stuff than the average bear, which can be a distinct negative. My old roommate is a pediatrician and when she had her first baby, there were issues at childbirth (kid is a young adult now and fine) that most people wouldn't have caught on to, but she sure did. She told me ignorance would have been bliss.

You know, back in the bad old days, 16-1700s, there were Satanic cults that would go to absurd lengths to steal the Host because, what with being the real Presence and all, it had real spiritual power that could be harnessed for their own diabolical ends.

And so, here we have it on tap, as it were.

Why? Why would a SS agent have that data to begin with? Then, was this the real target? It looks more like a hand-off to Clinton stooges than a random theft or a Russian spy thing or an emerging assassination plot.

85 Portland should do the tiny houses, but in a community. They'd have a community center, with a phone and locked down computer to use for job searches. It would give them an address to use in the job hunt. The idea would be to get folks in that want to find work and help them do that.

The problem is that people in Portland feel guilty because housing costs are so high. The homeless set up trashy camps everywhere, some on the streets next to the freeways. Of course, they want to kill off jobs by mandating a $15 minimum wage. They should help the ones that want to work and discourage those that don't. It's Portland so they won't.

113 Saw "Kong" yesterday-

And yes, given that the movie is more or less structured like 'Apocalypse Now!' and that the context is American soldiers abandoning Viet Nam,

it should've been titled-

"Viet Kong"

It is probably the best "kaiju movie" evah made.

Spectacular action. Incredibly realistic FX. Great acting. Frantic pace. Just great stuff.

They need this team to do the next Godzilla movie.

And yes, we all know the context of the movie, it can easily be inferred what the theme is-

but this being Hollywood they've gotta go all crazy bananas with an on-point scene near the end between Kong and Samuel L Jackson and the rest of the crew- just so we know who the real villain is!!!11!!1

Given that there is an even bigger danger out there than Kong, the scene make some sense-

but it could've easily been handled in an emotional way instead of a making old old oh, so very old political point way-

Man it's like Country Joe and the Fish wrote this scene.

but this being Hollywood...(50 year old) Political Point it is!

Anyway awesome(truly) monster movie that shoots itself in the foot making 75 year old hippies happy, who are obviously the demographic for this movie.

Check it out.

114 What is a "color revolution"? The older I get the more I realize my school education sucked.

===

Revolution without tanks, in a sense. Regime change.

There's a dispute over the election process that is shown to the public, a coup is engineeered, and the populace is stirred up to legitimize the coup. Its an artificial happening.

For example, one - Georgia's Rose Revolution - was almost an off-the-shelf thing. In that one, outside-funded groups highlighted and showed on national TV the differences between exit polls and vote tallies.

Then they showed repeatedly documentaries about Ukraine's Orange Revoltuion so the people were primed and knew what to do next. Shevardnadze was deposed, rioting ensued, etc. But it worked.

Internationally, the symbol these funders use is a raised fist in outline, like the black power fist. Yes, Soros funds it, but so do a lot of others.

293 Thank you for the explanation Bigby. I wonder how they choose the colors. Sounds like Iran's Green Revolution probably wasn't one of theirs (since it didn't succeed) but based on the same principles. We have a local radio guy, who is also a tv sportscaster on one of the channels, and when they're on the radio, someone will ask about this or that event (usually something he would never be caught dead at), asking if he's going to be there.

His response is "No, I won't be able to make it, I already have a date. A date with a lady, a little lady I call, Lady Journalism."

And it's funny, EVERY time he says it... no, I'm not being sarcastic. You have to hear his delivery/know his back story.

Anyhoo, our Ace here, yes. He's already married. Married to a little lady, called Lady Blogging.

If Muldoon is going to write the vows, you'll have to get a Unitarian to handle the wedding service. ;^)

A friend of mine-a clergy person-went to wedding where his niece did that-They had a friend (not a clergy person) officiate. There was no mention of God or Christ and vows to "love and care for our dog Bobo" (Or whatever the dog's name was) was part of the service. It's not that I don't think caring for Bobo shouldn't be something they do together, but as part of your vows?My friend and his wife are very high church. I can only imagine the thoughts of the six foot four clergyman looking down on this service. I am generally glad people are too nervous to ask me to help them write their own vows.

Oh, Fen, that reminds me of a HS friends wedding in Santa Cruz, CA.
Was officiated by their New Age priestess friend. Service involved everyone taking a small clay pot of sea water and pouring it into a giant vase (some metaphor for supporting the union?). Dress code was - I kid you not! - "Diesel", as in the Diesel Italian clothing line. It was everything you would imagine a new age hippy dippy surfer wedding would be and more. I went to a Hindi wedding once. The service was quite lovely. Lots of wonderful colors, music, and ALL the women were stunningly beautiful, from the bride to the oldest of the elders. Indian women are just absolutely gorgeous.

And yet, they could not find an Hindu religious leader to perform the ceremony, apparently. They got a white guy from California, about 60 or so, with a ponytail.

Ugh; Awful. I would have a hard time keeping a straight face.

The wife of the clergy friend said "I was disappointed they didn't mention God" and the 30 something daughter said, "I love my cousin but it was not good. The person who officiated kept laughing" I didn't ask my clergy friend what he thought. That is why if you have to have someone officiate at your wedding get a "rent a clergy" if you don't have a church or minister/priest. At least they're used to doing services and can maintain the required decorum.

Posted by: FenelonSpoke at March 18, 2017 10:55 AM (fDdVG)

When my Mom and her husband were married, the pastor kept giggling (their normal pastor at their church, by the way). I don't blame him, because the whole congregation was giggling. You see, Jan doesn't wear rings, can't stand them on his fingers. So Mom got him......a really nice watch.

Yeah, so the poor pastor had to try keeping a straight face when he said "Repeat after me. With this......watch.....I thee wed."

Very interesting. Perhaps they were not regular members of temple and that's why they couldn't find someone. People can make a fair amount of money doing this, I think. My friend suggested that I do it as I don't want to do services which don't mention God or Christ I am still poor. ;^)

My friend, the Eastern Orthodox Priest said marriages in his tradition are almost always done in the church, but the daughter of a parishioner had a wedding in park in GA in July. He wore all his regular heavy clergy robes and he said "By the time the service was over I must have wrung out about 3 lbs of sweat" from my vestments.

Bedspreads means probable prostitution which means high chance of human trafficking. An inspector who was discovered taking bribes to conceal human trafficking could be charged with trafficking as well (since accessory is a given) and penalties for that have gotten much tougher recently.

Oh yes, for instance, the cost of insurance that covers having children. We wouldn't have been able to afford more than one, doing it the way they make you do it nowadays...so I had the next four at home.

470 "I am ready to come out of the woods and to help shine a light on what is already happening around kitchen tables, at dinners like this, to help draw strength that will enable everybody to keep going," said Clinton.

This sounds like a horror story. A bitter, cackling hag and her young, pretty henchwoman stumble out from the woods, catch a family just sitting down to dinner and uses the youngest as a hostage so dad and mom submit to being tied to their chairs. Then the hag spends some time shining a flashlight in their faces and spouting nonsense with a big, fake smile on her face, with more and more creeps arriving, right until she announces, "We will draw strength from you to keep everyone going." Then the cannibalizing starts....

471 I must congratulate Ace on his upcoming nuptials. Never did it myself, but some seem to like it.

I went to really awful weddings. One was at a Unitarian church, the first and only time I have gone. The hymn book was pilfered mostly from Christianity but with all references to Christ removed. Then the "readings" included Dr Seuss and some feminist essay.

The other was at a Fort Street Presbyterian Church in Detroit. The beautiful Gothic architecture just emphasized the thoughtlessness of the wedding ceremony, particularly the reading off of the state legal definition of marriage and members of the wedding party making inside jokes in their eulogizing of the couple.

473 I thought there'd be a thread on Merkel coming to town. "Timing is everything" and Erdogan is threatening to deploy floods of undocumented immigrants into Central Europe, Germany. So former STASI - KGB Kremlin Merkel Corporatist Crook (husband deals) Open Borders Enforcer "suddenly" comes to D.C. -- I don't recall her coming to the US for BHO who preferred traveling abroad himself. But I won't forget Der Spiegel's front cover given Trump's victory: "THE END OF THE WORLD" graphic Donald's head as a flaming comet with his mouth wide open ready to consume the globe on impact with Earth.
