The Morning Report 3/17/17

Nobody-wishes-happy-Friday-better-than-me-believe-me-meme-44322.jpg

Good morning, kids. The Weekend's here at last. Big news of the day is Ryno-Care is out of committee and Paul Ryan survives another day. The other huge story is yet another hack activist dressed up as a judge has defied his oath and blocked a completely legal and Constitutional executive order by the President to temporarily halt immigration. The absolute unabashed lawlessness is breathtaking. And if that wasn't enough to get your Irish up, we have a Maryland judge who is considering ordering PDT to accept even more unvetted "refugees," an act that is completely outside their purview and authority. The question now is, should the President just ignore the judiciary and instruct the appropriate instrumentalities of the Executive Branch to proceed with the ban? Unfortunately, there is precedent from "Precedent" Obama on this, where he played "catch me if you can" in at least several instances. If you start saying to yourself, we have to scrap the Constitution to save the Constitution, we are indeed through the Looking Glass, and darkly. Anyway, links from around the world, across the nation and up your street. Have a better one and remain blessed.

15 I wish I'd brought my 1906 Irish joke book along today, but I didn't. Here's a joke, though:

"Patrick," said Father Boyle to the Irishman in a hospital bed, "I shall pray for you that you forgive Casey for hitting you with a brick."

Says Patrick, "Perhaps, Father, you'd save yourself time if you'd just wait until I get better and then pray for Casey."

37 Impeach those judges!

Far as I'm concerned it should be standing practice to remove judges from office, especially if Congress thinks a judge makes an unconstitutional decision.

The only roadblock I see is the 2/3 requirement for removal in the Senate. Does it make sense that it only requires a simple majority in the Supreme Court to declare something the Congress does unconstitutional, yet Congress is held to a much higher standard in holding the courts accountable for their unconstitutional decisions.

Well, if you think about it, when a story is first reported it is technically "breaking." I think in classic terms, it should mean something dramatic like a bank robbery or a hostage situation or perhaps something expected like a SCOTUS decision etc.

But the use of the word for unnecessary dramatic effect is wholly an invention of the 24 hour news cycle.

68 Some more Irish stuff:

In the 1920s, the most popular long-running Broadway show was Abie's Irish Rose, about a Jewish boy in love with (and, as it turns out, secretly married to) a sweet Irish girl.

In 1928, the show was filmed with Nancy Carroll as "Rosemary," the Irish rose:

http://tinyurl.com/lz9458e

Carroll was a Paramount actress, though the movies she made would really only by familiar to hardcore early screen devotees. She quarreled with the studio and was eventually dropped, moving over to Columbia, but she was no more successful there.

Abie was filmed again in 1946, with Joanne Dru as the lass from the Emerald Isle:

93 Let the judge who wants to issue that refugee order, enforce it.
________________________

Congress should pass a law removing judicial immunity from federal judges who enjoin lawful immigration orders from the executive.

If these judges want to create national immigration policy, then let them be sued for damages, in their personal capacity, when their immigration policies cause damage to other Americans.

So when a Syrian "refugee" kills people while screaming "allahu ackbar," the families of the dead get to sue Judge Know-it-All into bankruptcy (and they should be able to garnish his federal salary for the rest of his miserable life too).

If they're going to make immigration policy, they should have some skin in the game. There needs to be accountability, and currently there is none.

Yeah, what the WaPo doesn't tell you is that illegal aliens are NOT legally eligible for food stamps, but millions of them have been getting them anyway, because they perjured themselves on the application forms by falsely claiming to be U.S. citizens or legal residents.

https://www.fns.usda.gov/snap/snap-policy-non-citizen-eligibility

I have no doubt that some illegal aliens are worried about possible consequences to them of being identified as welfare frauds. They should be. If that causes them to stop ILLEGALLY taking benefits that they were never legally entitled to in the first place, so much the better.

We have U.S. veterans dying on waiting lists, and killing themselves in VA hospital parking lots, because they can't get the medical care we promised them. And yet for years now, we have been spending many billions of dollars of taxpayer funds every year providing food stamps and many other types of welfare to illegal aliens who are not legally qualified to receive these benefits. It is an outrage -- and that's what the WaPo should be writing about.

Speaking of the Hotel Del, here's Tony Curtis and MM on its steps:

And speaking of them, you might, if you're a certain age, remember Curtis' infamous comment that kissing Monroe was "like kissing Hitler." Apparently, no-one ever bothered to ask Curtis what he meant by that, taking it simply as a nasty crack against MM.

In a book about the making of Some Like It Hot, Curtis explained that the remark was a flippant, off-the-cuff response to a reporter who'd asked him what it was like to kiss Monroe. "What the hell do you think it's like to kiss Marilyn Monroe?" Curtis thought, considering it to be one of the stupider questions he'd ever been asked, but instead of saying that, he snapped off the "Hitler" quote as absurdist shorthand.

The last time a Court tried to usurp the Executive's power over citizenship and borders like this was in 1857.

I *loved* how he talked about results, not intentions, such as when mentioning the state block grants that fund things like Head Start. Something along the lines of "we've been funding some of these programs for 40 years with the goal of X and yet there is no demonstrable proof that we're meeting this goal."

That is a major paradigm shift - Results vs. intentions, and some program being unsuccessful means *you stop it* instead of throw more money at it.

371 Happy St. Pat's everyone! Don't have a lot of Irish in me - but as one of my best friends growing up, who is Irish, used to say : "One drop of Irish blood purifies all others!" Of course he usually said that after already polluting his own blood with a wee bit too much "o' the finer stuff." Proud of the Irish heritage in me - and also have St. Patrick as my patron saint ( my confirmation name is Patrick) so definitely a holiday in my household).

Now on to the real fun - to add to the "Califormia is truly boned" pile please note the following: some f*cktard democrat is proposing that teachers not have to pay any income taxes taxes. No really:

http://legalinsurrection.com/2017/03/ california-senate-proposes-nixing-state-income-tax-for-teachers/#more-206079

(remove break)

Cause teachers are just so much more important than you are, no matter what you do. What? You are a doctor and save lives? Nope - you are not as important as a a teacher. What? You are a scientist researcher working on a cure for cancer? Ooooh no. You are also not as important as a teacher. No siree.

You know I long for the days - way back when - when towns used to tar and feather teachers and run them out of town on a rail when they didn't do their jobs right or simply pissed off the townspeople. Mmmm hmm - those were the good olde days. Those days might, or dare I say should, come again soon in California.

I agree, and not just as a way to get around the judicial illegality. But, again, the hacks will just "interpret" PDT's actions as racist and unconstitutional and strike that down as well.

=======

JJ, you are right. The Progs will find a judge who say a total entry ban is simply an attempt to mask PDT's bias against Muslims.

And if you take that reasoning a step further, some judge could rule it unconstitutional for PDT and Congress to declare war against a predominantly Muslim nation, even if that nation, or a group harbored within it, made an attack on the Homeland.

JJ, you are right. The Progs will find a judge who say a total entry ban is simply an attempt to mask PDT's bias against Muslims.

Basically, they'll be establishing and extending precedent until Donald Trump is not allowed to do anything because he's *unclean*.

Yeah. By the latest reasoning, if anyone applying for a visa to come to the US has full Constitutional rights, all the NORK ultimate leader needs to do is apply for a visa and we can't go to war against NORK, because we may kill him in military attacks without first giving him a trial. In hindsight, W going after the Taliban and even Obama going after bin Laden were unconstituional, somehow, according to scores of Leftist Fed Judges.

.But it's OK when a dem is in power. Remember obama was having US Citizens killed without a trial. 437 We're very close to being out of peaceful options, people. Our votes/voices really don't count anymore. I think Trump will be rendered impotent within a year.

I think this country really was fundementally transformed. Not necessarily the people (which is obviously also being transformed through foreign invasion [work in progress]), but the government itself.

438 There is plenty of precedent to ignore the judiciary and there is separation of powers. It makes no sense to drain the swamp and leave the judiciary, infested with partisan hacks, untouched. The founders gave us the tools to smack the judiciary when it exceeds its powers, including impeachment. Congress can eliminate the lower courts and overwhelm the Supreme Court with the case load. Congress can cut the pay of the judiciary, etc. The problem is the Congress is filled with RINO's and Leftists.

440 "If you start saying to yourself, we have to scrap the Constitution to
save the Constitution, we are indeed through the Looking Glass, and

How would that be different from what Lincoln did during the War Between the States? Scrap 'Habeas Corpus', throw legal representatives in jail if they disagree with your policies, close dissenting newspapers, attempt to throw the Chief Justice of SCOTUS in jail for trying to reign in the Executive branch, 'DECLARE' war without Senate approval, etc., etc., etc.

And yet, I would hazard to guess that most people on this blog would consider Lincoln a GREAT POTUS.

And yet, I would hazard to guess that most people on this blog would consider Lincoln a GREAT POTUS.

Quite a lot of people around the world recognize Lincoln as a great president and a great man. The evidence is all around you.

And no one is scrapping the Constitution. Judicial review is not part of the Constitution. It was created by the Supreme court over two hundred years ago. The length of time does not make it Constitutional or necessarily wise.

Reigning in the abuse of judicial review is Constitutional.

442 Here are my thoughts on Trump ignoring the judiciary and for that matter the process to get repeal of Obamacare passed through Congress....if THEY cheat every time they are in power and we nevertheless cheat when we are in power, we will never get anything done. Let that sink in for a minute. The Dems are in power, they use reconciliation, ignore the filiabuster, make unconstitutional executive actions, and all the rest. They win. The Republicans are in power...they follow all the rules thatb the DEMS don't follow and we get nothing passed. So...the Dems are in the majority, they win. The Dems are in the minority, they win. The republicans didn't start breaking the rules but they better be willing to bend or nothing will change. Once things are back to normal and the ship is righted, go back to playing by the rules.

443 In regard to the Venezuelan bakers:

Ahhhh, yes ... {lightbulb-goes-on moment}. Reminds me of the Ace post from 2013 about "economic traitors":

https://tinyurl.com/kzcexey

wherein Ace gave us an explanation from the French Revolution -- the bakers were forced to accept worthless fiat money for bread although they had to pay for their ingredients with gold; when they tried to explain they couldn't keep on without going broke, The Government declared them economic traitors and ... "Hello, Mme La Guillotine".

That's the post where I finally understood why Leftist policies always end in millions of people dead.
