Once Again, The Elites Are Thinking For Us: Weather Service Chose Not to Tell Us The Truth, Becaue We Is Too Stupid!

Ah...the joy of being treated like a simpleton who can't tie his own shoes and needs help crossing the street. Weather Service decided last minute not to cut snow forecast, because we are just too damned dense to process complex ideas like the amount of snowfall predicted by our betters in government.

I don't know about you folks, but if they had reduced the predicted snowfall amounts to the latest and most accurate estimate, I would have thrown my windows open and gone skinny dipping. Luckily my betters at the National Weather Service took care of that possibility.

I wonder whether those arrogant, elitist pricks realized that millions of people made decisions; financial, personal, and business decisions based on their predictions. And they were wrong, but in their hubris decided that we simply didn't have the capacity to change our behavior based on new information. Never mind that their forecasts were constantly changing, and the one thing they are supposedly good at, they got wrong!

So they don't have the scientific and intellectual competence to correctly predict the weather, but they do have the intelligence and wisdom to decide for us what to do?

Really?

No reasonable person listens to the weather predictions. They're almost always wrong. You look at the radar animation and guess for yourself what's going to happen. It isn't hard to have a better record than the professional forecasters - partly because of what we had here, where they refused to update their own forecast because it wasn't scary enough.

Friggin losers. If it weren't for big tits there wouldn't be any reason to have a weather "forecast" on TV or anywhere else.

The fact is that there are plenty of lackwits out there who DO lack the capacity to respond properly to a weather emergency. Examples include people who drive through moving water, and those who decide they're just going to weather the hurricane in place, because they've seen lots of them before.

It's a separate question whether or not we should just let nature take its course and cull the herd.

Knowing this, what's truly amazing is how many otherwise competent people continue to put their abject trust in the utterings of government organs. We're being manipulated, as a people, all the time, so that our rulers can govern our behavior. We should not put our abject trust in them. Any of them.

85 I use Accuweather.com, which is a private company. They don't sensationalize the weather. Last night they were calling for 8-12" of snow, but the storm moved further inland and changed over to the beloved "wintry mix" of sleet and freezing rain. They modified their forecast as time went on.

But it did precipitate all night and much of the day, so they got that part right. Weather forecasting is a matter of probabilities.

Joe Bastardi worked for AccuWeather for a long time. He is a noted global warming denier skeptic.

139 "I guess they don't teach the parable of "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" anymore. "

So the young, stay at home father across the street spent hours helping to shovel snow. The whole time, his very young daughter was politely mentioning that she really wanted to go sledding with all her friends, whose fathers were taking them to go sledding, while their cars remained snowed in.

He explained to her that the first thing to do was to get the work done, and then he would take her sledding afterward, but that work came before play.

So I jokingly said "Oh, like the story of the ant and the grasshopper".

He had never heard of the story.

But once I explained it, he looked at his daughter and said "We need to be like the ants, not the grasshoppers".

And she very patiently waited till we were done.

And then off they went to go sledding.

Yes, I've experienced that too. I just take weather forecasts with a grain of salt, and pay attention to the radar maps, and what I see moving towards me.

Modern weather forecasts are more accurate than anything we had in the past, thanks largely to weather satellites. You just look at the general trend and don't take it literally.

Back in the old days, even hurricanes and tornadoes took people totally by surprise. Even though today they can't predict *exactly* where hurricanes or tornadoes will go, at least we know when they're around.

172 So short sighted. Next time maybe people won't believe them and will go out.

174 The reports I saw always indicated that if the track moved inland just a bit that there'd be freezing rain and sleet instead (the Fox and NBC weather-guessers both said that repeatedly on Sunday and Monday from what I saw). And frankly, 1 inch of freezing rain and sleet (which is what I got) is just as bad, if not worse, than 12 inches of snow. So being prepared for the snow that didn't show up means that people were by-and-large ready for the ice that did show up. I'm ok with that.

The other issue: they can't predict accurately a day in advance but we're supposed to take their wild-ass guess for a century from now like Gospel. Just... no. That's not happening.

Yes, she can.

It's all about destroying Trump, and will be about destroying Trump for the next FOUR years.

IMHO, it can't hurt to pray for him.

178 Well, I don't make decisions based on weather forecasts all that often because their apparent value is low. With snowfall, they're always wrong in the amount. With rainfall, they are probably also usually wrong in the amount but who ever checks. People make decisions based on forecasts, but they also make decisions based on the likelihood of forecasts being right, and let's be honest, that isn't all that high even today.

179 They were too busy predicting what the temperature will be in 2075 to get the next 24 hours right.

182 The reports I saw were accurate. I've gotten 33 inches and it's still coming down.
