Anne Patterson Withdrawn From Consideration as Undersecretary of Defense for Policy

An information campaign that let the public know about her support for Muslim Brotherhood deposed president of Egypt Mohammad Morsi, and her support for the Muslim Brotherhood generally, seems to have worked.

Defense Secretary Jim Mattis has withdrawn retired senior diplomat Anne W. Patterson as his choice for undersecretary for policy after the White House indicated unwillingness to fight what it said would be a battle for Senate confirmation.

U.S. officials said that two members of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Sens. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) and Ted Cruz (R-Tex.), were strongly opposed to Patterson's nomination because she served as U.S. ambassador to Egypt from 2011 to 2013, a time when the Obama administration supported an elected government with ties to the Muslim Brotherhood that was ultimately overthrown by the Egyptian military.

On one hand, you have die-hard Barrynauts and Clintonites who would sell this country out in a heartbeat. Strange, isn't it?

How there are now people in government that want to be so obsequious and complacent towards Islam and its fellow travelers?

I am afraid this is something we will be living with for a very long time. Islam is more pervasive and prevalent in the world than the Soviet international communist threat.

I have heard several allegedly "smart" young people that do not understand why older people are anti-Islam, and point at older folks and say something like "racism" (as if being a Muslim is a race).

I think that Europe is too far gone, and we better watch it ourselves, or we're next. And Canada, the Great Big Stupid White North, is right next door.

104 To me, Obamacare is the issue I most worry about.

I want a straight repeal, but I'm not going to be one of these TruCon idiots that demand all or nothing. Enough RINOs have said they won't back that, enough to kill it.

Is it really a smart idea to just let the system collapse over several years while people like me pay through the nose?

Trump really fucked up by right off the bat after his victory started talking about basically enshrining all the freebies into TrumpCare.

129 Had high hopes for Mattis. But some people don't do well with the transition from military uniform to civilian suit.

The other Mattis nonsense recently was his open contradiction of the President in public. Mattis was in Iraq and was asked about Trump's repeatedly and firmly stated "take the oil" position.

There are ways in which such a question can be handled without resulting in loss of face for the boss. Defer. Minimize. Instead, Mattis said at once that no oil was going to be taken.

I personally think Trump's statements to this effect were diplomatically questionable and shouldn't have been made in the first place. However, if they're going to be walked back, they need to be walked back by the POTUS himself, and not by the SECDEF, and not in a way that makes the POTUS look bad.

188 OT, via Insty: Presidential Executive Order on a Comprehensive Plan for Reorganizing the Executive Branch

http://tinyurl.com/zox74yp

Very interesting, particularly 2.b.
------
(b) The Director shall publish a notice in the Federal Register inviting the public to suggest improvements in the organization and functioning of the executive branch and shall consider the suggestions when formulating the proposed plan described in subsection (c) of this section.
------
Morons! Fire up your typewritters! You president needs your assistance!

My proposal is simple. Burn it down. Scatter the stones. Salt the the earth where it stood.

I will also accept Nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

190 I think it was here that I saw the 11th-dimensional chess theory that individuals (maybe not this woman, but possibly) were being suggested or nominated so that could be publically vetted and basically Alinsky'd (so as to taint them and salt the metaphorical earth), then withdrawn.

Repeat as necessary, but eventually name the guy you want who then gets confirmed relatively easily.

That seems too clever by half, but it's an intriguing notion.

Here's my one problem with the Gay Rights brigade. I don't care who you do what with. I don't care about how you feel, who, you are, or anything else. I don't care if you marry a guy, girl, or hamster, or inflatable doll. Nor do you care about any of the above related to me. None of these things make us special or unique or worthy of extra rights of any kind.

Now, when you show up in public bare assed, wearing pink chaps, a cape, and flapping a giant dildo... you're not seeking acceptance or tolerance. You're acting like an obnoxious imbecile and I will treat you as such.

The same at schools. When I was in high school we had one principal, one vice principal, one guidance counselor, and a handful of secretaries in the office that managed to keep all the hard copy paperwork, etc. in reasonable order without the benefit of today's office tech.

Since we have all sorts of tech today that's supposed to make administrative tasks easier and more efficient, how come we have 5 time the number of administrators and each of them has 1-3 assistants, deputies, etc?

Fascinating. So 500 years from now, are humans going to be completely sexless, devoid of any physical contact with other humans, or are beings that used to be human going to have involved into things that have multiple coupling points, and will emerge from the womb sexing other beings, large and small?

364 Trump dropping climate change impact from government reviews: report

President Donald Trump plans to drop climate change as a factor in making government decisions, Bloomberg reported Tuesday.

The move, which would reportedly cover environmental reviews of appliance standards, industry regulations and pipeline projects, would largely reverse how the Obama administration addressed climate change.

Umm, I thought recess was banned in most schools today. Along with any kind of sport in which someone can lose.

Really, when you have school administrators whose first thought when a criminal boards a school bus and is apprehended by police is to make sure the children are indoctrinated in accepting that the criminal has a right to be a criminal and shouldn't be judged on that, touching games such as tag etc. being banned shouldn't raise an eyebrow.

379 >>> There are a ton of positions to fill especially as they start cleaning house (as it seems like will happen) but finding experienced and skilled people in some of those areas might be tough.
......

Simple solution. Don't fill them.

All sarcasm aside, people in government don't even show up for work 25% of the time or more (and I'm being generous). When they are at work, they are doing anything but their stated jobs.

When we had the government shut down a few years back, the Obama admin went into overtime printing up signs and putting up barriers so that people might notice.

Look at each and every government program. A giant chunk of every one of them is outreach, advertising, public awareness, etc. In other words, without extraordinary effort, no one would know they exist, think to look for them, or miss them if they didn't exist.

Just for fun, I'd love to see one government agency shut down each month, every month for a year. Call it a vacation but don't tell anyone outside of the people that work there. I'd bet heavily that no one notices.

Well, not the current 6th grade reading level. Heck, college reading/ writing comprehension is now limited to copying and pasting no more than 140 characters, adding emojis, then passing it off as your own unique thought.

If it's written in 1787 6th grade level, different story entirely.

Go read anything Lincoln wrote... who had virtually no classroom education at all. Compare it to the average article by today's professional writers that make high 6 figure incomes, have a graduate degree, and have an alphabet or 12 of initials after their name.

383 The First best thing that would happen to Trigglypuff (What is her real name?)is a spiritual conversion. The second best thing would be is if she would find a weight loss trainer, lose lots of weight and find a decent person who loves and likes her, because I'm sure she's that heavy because of psychological issues and her anger and depression just makes her angrier and more depressed and so causes her to eat more.

388 I'm sure Mattis saw some use for her, but apparently he couldn't convince others to see the same. Perhaps he saw her actions in Egypt as practical realpolitik and not ideological. Egypt was (is?) teetering on the edge of Islamist anarchy and frankly almost any stable regime is better than that, even if it's only for a short time.

We've just gotta be careful. It's really easy for GOPe and Democrats to spit out targeted buzzwords (Russia! National Security! Intelligence Community!) intended to get our backs up. The left controls its own via these sorts of tactics, and we must be better at spotting it and resisting it than they are.

391 I'm guessing she was reasonably professional in their past dealings and Mattis, as a non-partisan military man, thought she would work out. He may understand the frontline in Raqqa, but there is also a frontline in DC, and she would have been an Obama informant. At minimum.
