Probes of Deep Sea Floor Reveals "Strong" Sources of Methane, a Powerful Greenhouse Gas
To understand why this is important, you need to know what the "Science Media" refuses to tell you: While carbon dioxide is classified as a greenhouse gas, it is barely classified as one: It is one of the very weakest to have such a designation.
By the way, carbon dioxide is an even weaker greenhouse agent than understood even by climate skeptics: It begins as a weak greenhouse gas, and then becomes even more weak at higher concentrations. That is, units of carbon dioxide do not "stack" upon themselves as simple as 1 + 1 = 2. It's more like 1 + 1 = 1.4. And the 1 + 1 + 1 = 1.65. As carbon dioxide concentration increases, the addition of any more carbon dioxide contributes less to the greenhouse effect than the last. The "marginal" impact of every new dose of carbon dioxide is always less than the last dose administered. Methane, on the other hand, is a powerful greenhouse gas. How much more powerful is methane than carbon dioxide in terms of greenhouse impact? Try thirty times more powerful, Jack. The Warming Mongers have occasionally sort of owned up to this Inconvenient Truth. When they talk about cattle farming as being a Danger to Our Very Earth, they're talking about the methane produced by cows' digestion of grass and feed. Their farts, I mean. More cows, more methane, more greenhouse effect. But of course their central preoccupation is carbon dioxide, which I have a habit of mocking as The Invisible Killer. In fact, it's not so much a killer as a minor bother. Now scientists have probed the tropical Pacific floor, and have found a great big swath of microbes pumping out a gas that actually has a greenhouse impact beyond the trivial.Writing in the journal for the International Society for Microbial Ecology, (Friday 24 February 2017) the team describe for the first time how microbial methane production in parts of the seafloor, where the water is very low in oxygen, feeds a vast methane pool which extends from Panama, up to Mexico and as far out as the Hawaiian archipelago. Joint lead author Felicity Shelley, from QMUL's School of Biological and Chemical Sciences, said: "The research is novel because it's the first time anyone has successfully retrieved sediment from this part of the ocean and directly measured methane production using specialised equipment on board the research ship." If you look at what wavelengths it absorbs, it shares many bands with Water vapor...
And ALL of that energy is already being absorbed by the combination of CO2 and Water Vapor...

So, you're saying at the oceans pump out greenhouse gas... which allegedly causes the earth to increase in temperature... which causes the oceans to evaporate... which, over time, might reduce the level of ocean greenhouse gases... which, over time, may cause the earth to cool.
Why, it's almost like there might a very long cycle of heating and cooling that has nothing whatsoever to do with the human activities and corresponds to long term climate change data that hasn't been altered into fake hockey sticks.
Nah. Couldn't be. We'd better ban some more asthma medication or CA, NY, and DC might be underwater in 10 years.

You all MISSED the crucial detail that NONE of the climate models suggested that CO2 is a big enough deal to do much of anything on it's own, so they MANUFACTURED a "feedback mechanism" of sorts, where the CO2 warmed the Earth a little, which caused more WATER VAPOR to be released, which is a STRONG greenhouse gas.
In reality, that feedback mechanism not only doesn't exist, and has been disproven, but it COULDN'T have existed, because it's unstable - so if it really existed the least little exhale of CO2 would have set the whole thing off millenia ago.
If anything, more water vapor makes for more clouds, which reflects away more of the Sun's radiation, which has a cooling effect. As one would expect, the Earth's thermodynamic equilibrium is extremely STABLE. These people are a disgrace to the name of science.

A few years ago, there was an article in The Economist, where they actually drew a confidence interval, and were fretting that the data was about to exit it. There are a number of things to observe:
(1) The whole point of a confidence interval is that if you exit the interval, you're supposed to REJECT the hypothesis. In this case, GW is essentially the hypothesis. Of course, they said nothing about how we were on the cusp of GW being REFUTED, even though that's exactly where what they presented led.
(2) Instead, they spoke of simply making the confidence interval WIDER, going to a "95% confidence level" instead of 90%. At the same time, declaring that this meant they were MORE confident, when it really means the exact opposite. In layman's terms, this is called "moving the goalpost" - not exactly "science".
(3) As you point out, it wasn't even the right NULL hypothesis - they had GW as their H0, which is giving GW a HUGE advantage (and yet it was StILL on the verge of being refuted).
