Witches' Spell of Binding, Get This, Fails

Mostly Trump's getting raves, except from the bitterest of Bitter-Enders. Per a CBS Poll, 76% of those who watched it approved of the speech. Per CNN, 57% had a strongly positive reaction to it (and another 18% were "somewhat positive"), and nearly 7 in ten felt the speech made them more "optimistic" about the future, and that the country would be moving in a positive direction.

Update: I overslept and missed the Blue Checkmark Mafia's Daily Freakout, but I imagine this is right:

The thing that has to happen now, like it always does, is that these people will begin explaining how Trump appealed to the stupid and racist, and how the minority of people, The Smart Ones, can see past through this, but The Dumb Ones can't.

Which will further endear them to the general public.

And actually, of course, you'll see even more snottiness from the #NeverTrumper TrueConservative Crying Eagle Wing.

Right on Cue:

People who liked the speech cannot tell reality from fantasy. Only our brave media class and their swell Hollywood friends can.

12 Thrice Fold Rule which means those who 'cast' this spell will suffer three times worse because the spell has apparently bounced off the intended target.

39 Further Sagas:

Night. A person wearing all black dismounts from a motorcycle with a sidecar. She hurries down the path into the brush of a creek bed, sliding on the slippery rocks. An overhanging bank conceals the entrance to a tunnel.
******
"Hillary! I'm here! I received your message," Huma calls out. "Hello?" she asks when she receives no response.
Lights turn on, showing the way through the tunnel. Huma hurries along.
******
"You finally got here. Good. We can start planning again."
"Planning? Planning what?"
"My triumphant return, that's what."
"Hillary, darling, you cannot be serious. The party is over, the glass ceiling was sold at auction to pay the caterers. The Obamas now run everything from the shadows with their community organizing."
Hillary slams her claws down on the table. "Those OfA oafs? Ha! Trump will sweep them all away. Pizza John Podesta has the goods on them and is looking to drop it into Session's mailbox."
"Are you sure it is wise to use him? He can't manage a g-mail account."
"He's not tech savvy like me, but he knows dirty tricks. And pizza."
"But the DNC is now against you! They have an Obamabot and a Berniebot in as the leadership! Even Congress..."
"Enough! The DNC has failure all over it and Congress - Pelosi thinks she's leading the suffragettes against the Taft Administration and Warren still talks of Little Big Horn as "The War." I, I have other plans, plans which require one little thing."
"And that is?"
"The destruction of the Golden Scalp Weasel."
"How can you do that?! He is riding high, fat and sleek, climbing to victory after victory!"
"With this!"
Curtains part, revealing a shiny, loud, purple-plaid pantsuit.
"Behold the Plutonium Powered Purple Plaid Panzer Pantsuit! With this I shall be unbeatable, the melding of my evil ambitions with modern Chinese defense tech!"
Huma stares from the suit to Hillary. "I'm in. When do we start being evil again?"
"Tonight!!! Ah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha*cough*cough*hack*shart*."

Dep Sec State could very well be one of those places where you send a guy who provided some sort of loyal service, but you don't want to give any actual power to.

Now, I don't know what service The Huntsman might have done, but I recognize there must be some version of reaching across the Gope divide going on. The part that included putting Prince Rebus in position, for example.

Wiccans are, from my experience, pretty sweet women who are very confused. Generally they seem to be the type that is really hurt and unattractive physically seeking some kind of power and comfort outside the usual world. They gravitate toward this earth mother crystals and such religion as a way of trying to find that.

I watched the Trump speech that indicated it was from the New York Times, 1:02 run time, on YouTube. About two minutes before end Trump is nailing his vision of 'merica, with children graduating from good schools, mothers in good safe communities, etc.

The cameras panned on Nancy Pelosi as Trump finished. She actually looked to be a split second from tears. As the republican side rose in standing ovation, she clapped. Not enthusiastically, still sitting, but she had to concede he did a good job.

Well, I may have spoken too soon. According to Wikipedia, it was #fakenews. When ISIS burned a Jordanian pilot alive, he did order the execution of two terrorists, and it was reported at the time that he personally led airstrikes against ISIS. But Wikipedia says that didn't happen. He is the Commander-in-Chief that Obama wasn't. He commanded Jordan's Special Forces, and as Crown Prince he led an operation against outlaws in 1998, before becoming king in 1999. He's commanded a tank company, is a qualified free fall parachutist, and has been trained to fly Cobra attack helicopters. He graduated from Sandhurst and served a year in the British Army before returning home to Jordan.

409 @53 Too late to ask in the art thread - was Napoleon the last head of state to lead his nation's army in battle?
---------------

Note that even during the Napoleonic era, Napoleon wasn't the only head of state on the battlefield. Czar Alexander I of Russia was also present on many of the same battlefields that Napoleon was. Unlike Napoleon, though, the Czar was not a very good general. Alexander always had a nominal head of the army, and then would contribute "suggestions" that invariably caused problems for his generals. problems. During the Hundred Days following Napoleon's escape from Elba, Russia sent troops to assist against him. While Barclay de Tolley technically led the army, it's likely that the Czar would have once again joined to "assist" his general in defeating Napoleon.

I've got a 15mm scale command stand that I painted up for the game Napoleon's Battles that has representations of both Kutuzov and the Czar.

James Madison, president of the United States during the War of 1812, led troops in battle in 1814. As Commander in Chief of all the armed forces of the United States, this was fully within his rights. That doesn't mean that his leading was necessarily a good idea (quite the opposite, from what I've heard). But he did it.

472 One thing I like about Beauty and the Beast is that its the single Disney movie that has the girl with a really actually masculine heroic guy. The rest have them hook up with the boy while rejecting traditional masculine types of characters: soldiers, etc.

There's a scene in the animated movie that's brilliant in an otherwise meh film where Beast shows up to save Beauty from wolves, filmed from above. Its beautifully done but its also him being a badass fighting machine protecting her, like a man is supposed to. You just don't get that in any of the other disney films.

I'm sure in the live action one she whips out kung fu moves and does that "grab them by the thighs and spin around to throw them" move every single action heroine does now. She read about it in a book, you see.

511 @482 Looking out over the field of Democrats who could use their current position as a stepping stone to a presidential nomination, which of them seem to be trying to play that game?

I'm honestly asking, because it seems like most of the elected members of the party are going to die of old age in the next few minutes.
------------------

The Castro brothers have been mentioned a few times. Apparently they've got some negatives, but I don't know much about them. I wouldn't be surprised if the thought has crossed the mind of Gavin Newsome in California, though I don't think he realistically has a chance if the general public (as opposed to the California public) gets a good look at him.

But the thing is, someone who follows the general outline of what I suggested - i.e. keep the ambitions in check during the run four years from now and don't make the run until 2024 - would likely be someone that you hadn't even heard of at this point unless they were local to you.

For that matter, sure there were a lot of Republicans that we knew would run in 2016. But eight years ago, who thought that Donald Trump would even consider running in 2016, let alone win the election?

Has Coven Network News explained why the witch hexing didn't work?

517 With all of the rumors perhaps it would be best if people actually waited for an announcement from a named spokesman for the administration, actually video-recorded and stuff, before they lose their sweet honey iced tea about the coming Trumpian betrayal?

You would think that by now people would have learned that but no, it keeps happening over and over.

=======================

I've made that argument too.

I do think that whoever it will be (either 2020 or 2024) is somewhere on the radar. 2020 is probably going to be someone we keep talking about. 2024, assuming a Trump win, will be further out in the periphery, but probably not a complete unknown.

That's my guess.

519 If the Oprah thing happens, it's a sign the Dems are in complete disarray. She'd be a throw-away candidate while the Left rebuilds.
Doubtful though. We'll see a lot of straw candidates thrown out there.
Posted by: Diogenes

________

I don't think she will be the nominee, but I'd be careful writing off anyone. Hillary was the absolute worst candidate in several lifetimes and Trump lost the popular vote to her. 1% difference in the Rust Belt and he would have lost.

Oprah could easily bring a few more blacks into the voting booth over Hillary and easily put her over the top

Hopefully it will be 1984 "Morning In America" for Trump and it won't matter who they run.

520 Predicting 2020 is a fool's errand. In 2012 who here said "You know what I bet happens? Donald Trump runs for president and wins!"

Nobody. Its out control out there. Since 2008 all the old systems, prediction methods, and patterns have been utterly destroyed.

521 ...they did, however, manage to turn Kelly Anne Conway into a frog....

I think they turned her into a regular person that 100 million women would envy. Kelly Anne helped Trump's image by tucking her feet under her on a couch, checking her phone and taking a picture. Trump's her kind rich uncle in that picture and she is his doting grown up niece.

522 Something just occurred to me about this "reality" thing.

You know how the fake news told everybody Clinton would win?

The left's reality includes this new age idea that what a person says has power. As in "The Secret". it's positive thinking to a demented agree, as if a human being can make something happen by saying something many many times.

I think that's part of why they were refusing to acknowledge Pres. Trump's chances. they didn't want to give away their "power."

More importantly who cares. Unless, of course, it is their new uniform. In which case, all of America wants to know who the official Designer is.

Ridiculous.

535 They were doomed the minute Lana joined in. She has magical bad juju powers. The instant she is associated with anything it is instantly branded "fake", "rich bitch", and terminally unhip. This is the lady who described Monte Carlo as "amazing" and "incredibly beautiful" entirely unironically to a music journalist.

This is a young lady who hero worships Nancy Sinatra and Axl Rose, who describes herself as "gangsta Nancy Sinatra" in desperate search of her Lee Greenwood. So just thank the lord that her next album is going to e like Joan Baez.

She is the genuine troubadour of depressive & self destructive incredibly hot rich white girls, particularly blondes with serious daddy issues, who dye brunette. She actually has a song about how their is no such thing as sisterhood because hot needy women can't stay woke once they have a man. If you are a very bad absentee parent with sexy sexy genes and a million in the bank this is what your daughter might turn out like if you only talk to her when she is acting out but did get one lesson through to her: Social Justice only happens when magic is involved.

If she was twenty years older and born in Bratislava she would be Mrs Trump now.
