The Contrived Campaign to Make Chelsea Clinton Happen

Stop trying to make Chelsea Clinton happen, media. Chelsea Clinton is never going to happen.

To see why Chelsea Clinton is never going to happen, watch this horrorshow of her complaining with Paul McCartney's daughter about how difficult the children of the rich and famous have it.

Strange to say, but she lacks her mother's charisma and common touch.

JeffB. says Chelsea Clinton is the last hope for the would-be Clinton Political Dynasty.

Sorry to get all Yoda on y'all, but: No... there is another.

I'd laugh, but, um. After the wonderfully deep bench of 2012 (Jindal! Perry! Cruz!), Trump beat them all and then won the Presidency.

So I dunno how much the "bench" matters, as much as I enjoy pushing it and snarking about it. I guess politics is more like basketball, where having Michael Jordan on your team means CHICAGO BULLS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS EVERY YEAR HE PLAYED vs. , I don't know, baseball, where one star player ain't gonna cut it CUBS WON THE WORLD SERIES and GO BLACKHAWKS.

So, uh, anyway. In conclusion, Da Bears.

100 if they can find some solidly Dem district, the Clintons can probably push everyone else out of the way and get Chelsea elected to Congress. Imagine her giving a speech in that half on / half off almost monotone. Presidential! Hillary wants to see that glass ceiling broken any witch way she can.

I might be wrong, but I believe the Clintons' district in the House of Reps is represented by Nita Lowey, a Dem who last year ran unchallenged. As she's been in the House since 1989, it might not be so difficult to get her to decide she wants to spend more time with her family and maybe a cushy job at some unnamed foundation.

110 100 if they can find some solidly Dem district, the Clintons can probably push everyone else out of the way and get Chelsea elected to Congress.

++++

Depends on how low the bar is set for "happen". If, as the article suggests, the plan is to get Chelsea elected as the Rep for a safe district in NYC, it could happen. If Maxine Waters, Nancy Pelosi, and Barbara Lee can make it to the House, literally anyone with the support of the Dem machine can do the same given a district that leans strongly to the left.

Whether or not she can leverage that safe seat into something bigger is a different question. That's where some political talent becomes more important. Though, as Hilary getting elected as Senator demonstrates, anything is possible in politics.

If the parents are willing to spend time on polishing the next generation in terms of actual rule, it can be very advantageous. You have the expectancy of rule, the education to back it up, and the smooth transition of power when it comes up.

170 Adam Gopnik, Noted Belly Button Ponderer, ponders:

Did the Oscars Just Prove That We Are Living in a Computer Simulation?
Last night's Oscar bizarreness was not just bizarre but bizarre in a way that is typical of this entirely bizarre time. The rhythm of the yes-they-won-oh-my-God-no-they-didn't event, with "La La Land" replaced by "Moonlight" as Best Picture, was weirdly like that of ... Election Night. First, a more or less expected, if "safe," result was on its way-though Hillary Clinton never got all the way to the stage, so to speak, the result did seem safely in hand at 7 P.M., according to the polling-and the expected and safe people were ready to deliver their touching but obviously polished pieces. Then the sudden confusion and visible near-panic of people running around in the background of the stage, with the same slightly horrified spirit that one felt on Election Night as shocking results began emerging from the exurban counties in Florida. Then, yes-can this be happening?-the revised and unexpected result.

And so both of these bizarre events put one in mind of a simple but arresting thesis: that we are living in the Matrix, and something has gone wrong with the controllers. This idea was, I'm told, put forward first and most forcibly by the N.Y.U. philosopher David Chalmers: what is happening lately, he says, is support for the hypothesis that we are living in a computer simulation and that something has recently gone haywire within it. The people or machines or aliens who are supposed to be running our lives are having some kind of breakdown. There's a glitch, and we are in it.

He goes on to tie the Super Bowl into his, um, thesis.

I could see some compromise or softening or even limited amnesty *after* the Wall is built (or at least vast portions do what they're supposed to), crime goes down, that sort of thing.

Maaaaybe 2018 or '19 at the very very earliest. These things take time, and the idea behind the Wall and other aspects of an actual enforcement regime is to create a new reality, a better reality.

Anyway, yeah, it's way too early for Trump to go wobbly on the biggest issue of the campaign.

They won't want it to go much longer than that, though, because the Clinton brand will start to fade very quickly now that Cankles has been sent into exile. They won't want to get her into the House, though, b/c the reelection cycle in the House is way too fast to get her any kind of clout. I agree.

Once Bill is gone the Clinton name means as much as the Johnson name.

They have to get either Hillary the presidency in 2020 or Chelsea started on the road now in order to retain any sense of relevancy at all.

I guess a House seat would be a way to start, but it'd be about the equivalent of any Senator I think (clout of Clinton name + House seat = No name + Senate seat). They'd be in for the long haul.

At that point, you wonder who it's for? Does Chelsea want it? Is it the organization around the family? Is Hillary really that desperate for some kind of power? (Don't laugh)

The Clinton Machine still can't quite believe that their mix of nimble young go-getters and old, battleworn veterans couldn't find the votes necessary to drag Hillary's wrinkly chin across the finish line. I am convinced that THEY are convinced that the problem was solely Hillary's baggage: she'd been a public figure for so long that she doesn't have enough future left to outrun all that history.

But Chelsea. Oh, Chelsea is a different story.

Chelsea, by the very nature of her status as the child of a former President, is as close to a blank slate as you can get. She's been shielded from so much media criticism over the years, first because she was a child, then b/c she was "her own person" making her way thru college who deserved to be "out of the limelight," then she was a "newlywed," and then a "new mother," and then a "dedicated daughter"; and this whole time she's barely picked up any nicks or cuts that are her own. She's got a few dings, but NOTHING like Hillary's email server or Benghazi.

But most important of all, she's a CLINTON.

Chelsea is The Clinton Machine's vehicle back to champagne and caviar at all the hottest DC parties. They are going to bend themselves into pretzels to try and make her bland, unappealing, drippy personality into a radiant burst of sunlight. They will shine that pebble into a diamond if it takes them every minute of every day from now til 2024.

And when they fail, and fail HARD, I will laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh...

Of course not - he was still a miserable failure as President. 345 "How do they determine who gets on the law review, then? I know Obama was elected to the law review, but generally the law review positions are given to the bast students."

The book _Poisoned Ivy_ relates how Harvard Law had gotten itself into a real jam shortly before Obama arrived as a new admission. They had hired a black female prof who was a consistent underperformer, and then let her go. And instead of gently smoothing her way out, they were pretty abrupt about it.

RAYCISS ELEVENTY! A huge shitrain ensued.

So with the dean and the oversight committee frantically backpedaling from their self-created public relations disaster, they decided that they had to address certain racial lacunae at HLS, one of them being that there had never been a black student in charge of the review.

It was decreed from on high that this was to change at once, and they essentially took the first black warm body to walk in the door, and it happened to be Barack Obama. Nothing more to it than that.

Spicy like when the illegal alien from Uruguay in the kitchen doesn't wash his hands before making your Chinese Chicken Salad and leaves bits of fecal matter in your lunch and you get some kind of horrible Uruguayan diarrhea which cores out your colon for the next week and a half.

Yeah! That kind of spicy!

And sassy like your poor old senile Grandpa when he leaves the house in his pajamas and goes to the park, and sits down on a park bench and then lays down and goes to sleep. And then he suddenly wakes up and starts cursing at the pigeons and throwing pine cones at them.

Yeah! That kind of sassy!

And beautiful like there was a catcher's mitt that was raped by a basset hound and that union produced an offspring.

Yeah! That kind of beautiful!

Chelsea Clinton is a Thing*, h8ters!!!!

But it would be nice to show people that affirmative action is promoting people that don't deserve promoting at the expense of someone that deserves it. So a white kid that had better grades and resume got shafted so white liberals could feel good.

And Michelle is an absolutely toxic, detestable excuse for a human being by all accounts. She was hated by the people forced to work with her in her law firm job back in Chicago, hated by the people on the hospital board there where she turfed all those poor patients for money, hated by the secret service detail guarding her whom she treated like serfs. If she actually ran for office stories like this would come out of the woodwork in the real media. 487 So, I was out and about this afternoon and every half hour, the local news comes on the radio. The breathless story being reported is that an Ann Arbor illegal who has been in the country illegally for 17 years, but has four children here, was finally arrested after a "routine meeting with his immigration officer". He is having an immigration hearing this afternoon in Detroit.

The local station made sure to say he was a "Muslim" from Jordan. Because we arrest illegal Muslims from Jordan apparently, but not illegal Christians, or agnostics, etc. Only Muslims.

Please deport this clown. He never applied for a green card, etc. I'm assuming he simply overstayed his visa. And what exactly he has been doing for 17 years, besides siring kids, I don't know.

Posted by: rickb223 at February 28, 2017 04:06 PM (QFqpA)

So what if he committed felony fraud on a college application? Seriously, what's the statute of limitations on that? Could he be prosecuted? Nobody on the left and only about half on the right will care. I'm not saying it's right or even that somebody like Trump would get a pass on that (they wouldn't), but the bar for de-legitimizing the first black POTUS is very, very high. The country let a Democratic president get BJ's from an intern in the oval office and didn't bat an eye. Do you really think they care if another one lied on an a college application when he was 18 years old?I get the anger and the frustration, but focusing on this kind of stuff when there are bigger fish to fry (Benghazi, etc.) isn't a winning strategy.

Posted by: not the mama at February 28, 2017 04:15 PM (EpAnP)

492 Clarification. The records that got unsealed about Jack and Jerry Ryan were not divorce records but were about a child custody proceeding in CA. The judge released them over the objections of father, mother and child, which is unheard of. Mom had left IL to be a star in CA and was fucking her Star Trek producer. People are known to lie and exaggerate in child custody proceedings. She said he took her to a sex club. She spoke favorably about Jack during the campaign. Axelrod orchestrated the whole thing. The rest is history. Obama never won a competitive race until 2008.
Posted by: Ignoramus

isn't is sick that lying about this stuff is just standard operating procedure for women in divorce cases?

I have a friend who's ex-wife said he molested their daughter in a custody battle and he lost his job over it when it came out, it was complete bullshit and he was vindicated, but the mother should be in prison for it.

I agree, if any other Republican had squeaked into the WH, they might get through a tax cut and that's about it. But they would still be subservient to the media and their game.

Trump is destroying the media itself which has always been the real problem.

Also, a few more decades of open borders, refugees, and work visas and the US electorate will have changed enough so the only real election would be the Democrat primary. No other Republican wanted to deal with those issues because they were afraid the word "racist" might be used.

A lot of that is driven by dropship businesses, I think. You can easily put together an ecommerce website which links to dropship wholesalers like Doba or DropshipDirect. You never have to purchase inventory until you've made a sale, and the wholesaler actually ships the product to your customer.

You can do the same dropship business linking to your ebay account as well.

Obama is also the greatest ally Israel ever had in a POTUS: he single handedly ensured that Israel's Syria border would remain secure for the better part of a decade. Of course, he did that by guaranteeing the rise of ISIS and the perpetuation and fragmentation of the Syrian civil war. He managed to drive the Saudis into everything but an open alliance with Israel, and got the Egyptians to secure the Sinai border with Gaza. Brilliant!

All completely unintentional, but whatever.

No one liked Clinton when she was earning 6 figures at NBC with zero talent while everyone else had to fight to climb the ladder. No one like her at the Foundation as she was known to have the unique ability to be arrogant, dim-witted, micro-manager, and rude to subordinates all at once.

630 Why the HELL are you dissing Chelsea?! She's a perfect Dem candidate for 2020 -- in the sense that she's likely to lose, and in classic Clinton style will sabotage any more dangerous candidates.

Every Republican should be passing out flyers: RUN CHELSEA RUN!

632 RE: the economy -

From Barrons - the number of distressed retailers is up the past 6 years:

The BF's raises haven't been great, our property taxes went up 12% this year alone, , have friends who can't find anywhere to live near city that is affordable, healthcare is up, but no, everything was dandy under SCOAMF.

I hope to GOD PDT can do something about the economy. And build the fucking wall. It will be the Infinity Schadenboner when it all comes to be. (Thinking positive here.)
