Oscars Thread

The only film I liked this year, The Migrations of the Quokka: Rivers of Blood, Tears of Fire, wasn't nominated, so as usual I could give AF about any of this shit.

However, some of you might give AF about this shit, so here's a thread.

I'll put the giraffe on below in case you want to see something that's actually interesting.

29 It'll be a shit show, with a few moments.

La La Land is good but not great, but will sweep
most of the awards. I like the director who also did Whiplash.

Only awards drama is Denzel v. Casey for Best Actor. I'm expect Denzel for PC reasons. There was a smear campaign against Casey for being a bad ex-boyfriend.

The Salesman will also win Foreign Picture for PC reasons, as its Iranian director won't be there in Trump protest. Who will accept in his place? This may be the only big opportunity to hit on Trump, besides a few perfunctory statements from a few winners.

Mel Gibson is the much funnier target,as he'll be there as a director nominee swimming in a sea of Jews and an ocean of Sugar Tits, many artificially sweetened.

With a downer ending, because we haven't seen one of those in a while. That is my problem with the film- they wanted to hearken back to the old days of moviemaking without doing the full Monty: the characters go through all of these trials and tribulations, we come to care about them, and in the end, they live happily ever after.

Hmm... I'll do a "quick-pickle" of mandoline sliced onions or carrots as a garnish. Just mix half and half cider vinegar and white vinegar, a bit of water, a decent amount of salt and sugar, and microwave that mess til it's kinda hot but not boiling. Add in the veggies to the hot liquid, and in an hour or two they'll start to soften.

Don't know how to adapt that to eggs....

247 I went to see John Wick: Chapter 2 yesterday...excellent movie. An older couple got up and walked out during one of the many shooting scenes. Screeching harpy was complaining about too many guns, too much violence and the glorification of guns. Many members of the audience, including myself, told her to GTFO of there. I felt sorry for her husband, since he looked like he wanted to stay.

On a side note, one of the Oscar- nominated movies, Moonlight, was/is being marketed as a movie about the need for a male father figure/mentor for a young black boy. In reality, it is being used to mainstream and gain acceptance of homosexuality in the black community.

298 There was a pretty good drug related movie that could've been as good as "Scicario" if it ever could've gotten out of neutral-

"The Councilor"

Ridley Scott directed it and Cormac McCarthy wrote it, so you'd think "should be awesome".

But, nope.

Some great scenes. A blood curdling ending.

But, as a whole the movie is just blah.

Either the actors couldn't handle McCarthy's flowery dialogue and make it seem natural. Though Javier Bardem does pretty well with it.

Or the dialogue by McCarthy just blows with all of its flowery angst and Scott didn't cut the script where necessary. The blah blah blah seems to go on forever.

Interesting failure though.

Check it out. If interested.

There are words for people like that, but lets just say they aren't *good* people...especially when someone like Jimmy Kimmel starts off his show by calling president Trump a racist and talking about his bowel movements. Disgusting. Then Kimmel goes on to call for "unity" among people who don't agree with each other. He's not even in the realm of hypocrisy anymore. He's just a nasty idiot.

Juxtapose that with a story about President Trump's dinner last night...he quietly, without fanfare, gave the busboy a $100 tip. Who does that? You'll never hear that story anywhere, but it shows what kind of a person the president is.

-----------------

Saw a post by Neoneocon mentioning that the guy who directed it decided when he was five years old that he was going to direct movies. And unlike a lot of kids, who briefly get an idea and then move onto the next, he stuck with it.

His partner in crime, the composer that he worked with on both films, was apparently similarly inspired at a very young age, to the point where at six years old his parents had to institute limits on how much composing he could do so that he'd go to bed every night.

478 So the left doubles down with the nasty comments, right off the bat. No surprise, they can't help themselves. They shout who they are at every opportunity.

Agree, as a former restaurant worker/mostly bartender. Your waitress usually doesn't give the portion of the tip due to the bar bill to the bartender, tho a few places pool.

My beef is that I'm not gonna tip on the total after tax, just before tax. Why should I tip on the tax the govt is charging?

For good service I'll tip well. For bad service I prolly overtip and should stop that. And I really don't find bad service that often.

615 Yeah, that's actually the stuff I was wondering about.

I mean, if you assume that Obama and his ilk think that reduced sentences for non-violent drug offenders (or whatever) is good policy... then it seems weird that he'd do this sneakily on the way out the door.

I guess they must also think it's a political loser, and are treating it like scraps of red meat for the base.

He was totally awesome as the Republican network boss on "30 Rock." You'd think he'd be hateful and mean, based on his politics, but no, he was terrific. I regularly found myself cheering for him.

That really changed my opinion of him, because that level of professionalism -- that kind of absolute commitment to a character, especially in a comedy show -- is almost unheard of in the entertainment industry.

I don't know what Vic likes but ...

something as simple as slicing up some steak or chicken and onions, bell peppers, then marinate them in some minced garlic and lemon juice for about an hour before you grill or broil them, can be very good and still healthy.

(doesn't have to be garlic or lemon juice, make a marinade with whatever spices he likes)

Mrs Vic, you may want to look at Paleo type recipes-they are high protein with healthy fat, and have no dairy-meats, vegetables, some fruits.

Bananas would be excellent for him also-and if you use almond milk, you could make banana and peanut butter smoothies-they might be easier for him to sip on slowly, so he can get continuous calories, without filling up. Coconut milk/ice cream are great substituted for dairy products as well.

I have a severe dairy allergy, and have had to be creative with substitutes. My personal favorite is biscuits and gravy, using turkey sausage and chicken broth for the gravy. It's not as rich/creamy, but it will do in a pinch. I make the biscuits with lard or margarine, as well.

Good luck. As he starts feeling better, let us know what foods he's hankering for, and we will come up with recipes for you. The Horde is blessed with some mighty fine cooks.

With a downer ending, because we haven't seen one of those in a while. That is my problem with the film- they wanted to hearken back to the old days of moviemaking without doing the full Monty: the characters go through all of these trials and tribulations, we come to care about them, and in the end, they live happily ever after.

662 Moonlight wins best picture Twitter people tell me. I'm proud to say I never even heard of the movie or most of the others they are raving about.

Just a quick search indicates the theme is that if you grow up with a crack addict mother and your mentor is a drug dealer, it might make you turn gay. At least that was the case for the black lead character. So now Hollywood wants to convince the not very gay proud black community that it's cool to be gay? They gonna need to drop the whole black Muslim thing then. And drop the black Christian thing as well.

Everything is politics ... the ratings give an extra star for injecting race, and an extra star for LGBTQ. All they need is global warming and open borders sub-plots and it would get six stars out of five.
