My sister worked with an idiot who had been seeing some guy she had met in a bar. High calorie, low fat, no dairy: what about grilled meats like burgers, steaks, pork chops,
spuds of any kind with olive oil in place of butter,
bacon and eggs fried in the fat on toast, (I assume he can have bread)
bratwurst or similar on a roll with mustard and relish
oatmeal with honey, molasses or maple syrup for a sweetener, perhaps with raisins.
That's all that comes to mind at the moment. It's the lack of dairy that makes things difficult.

don't have a specific food suggestion. But a weight lifter/Athlete
supplement place like GNC might have good options that would help. I
only name GNC because it was about the only place to get that stuff back

This is why just because it doesn't directly affect you, it still does affect your.
The mores and social values that looked down on this and even looked down on those who embraced such depravity served to dissuade destructive behavior and encourage that behavior that allowed society to work.
By excusing, if not embracing, such bad mores and lack of social virtues, they become normalized. By subsidizing it with welfare and undue compassion, it spreads and becomes the default for society, since destructive behavior is easier and there is no longer any downside.
It's high time that we start being openly disgusted about this sort of thing, and use it as a measure to lead a better lives ourselves.
Certainly, 'tis a good society when people can redeem themselves, at least morally, for their past destructive behavior, or accept that someone born into a bad situation can escape it and toss off that social version of "original sin".
But above all else, this is just evolution as applied to societies. Elements that are destructive will contribute to the destruction of society; elements that are constructive will be conducive towards a healthy society.
So yes, we should look down on those mores and lack of values, and the societies that have come to normalize it. Help change it where we can, and burn it to the ground if we can't.
If you want a good society, then deserve that good society.

Few years ago, there was a story around here about a "boyfriend" that killed the mother and then "kidnapped" the daughter. Mommy met the boyfriend when the daughter became friends with him on the internet, and then one Friday afternoon, she was killed. It wasn't discovered until Monday when she didn't show up to work. Amber alerts and shit, and then they found footage of the two at Walmart hours after the murder. They are casually walking around, stop and talk to people, and she even leaves his side and gets some camping equipment.
Couple of weeks later they are found in California. He waives extradition and both are brought back to Virginia. Her dad lawyers her up, and doesn't allow the police to interview her. Police release her, and dad throws a public welcome back party where she mugs it up for the television cameras. Boyfriend quickly confesses to only the murder and all other charges dropped.
To this day, I still think the daughter planned and helped to kill her mom, and mom's boyfriend was actually banging her. My cousin's husband who is a local cop (not the same jurisdiction that the murder took place, but right next door) won't say anything, but the nod of his head says my thought was the correct one.

I went and saw Clockwork Orange alone when I was in college, back in the day when life was nicer.
The movie was so violent in the beginning and upset me so much that I almost left. FYI, this was in the 80's before the Saw/ Hostel thing started.
I didn't, and honestly, I'd have to say that IMHO, it's one of the most powerful films ever made. The imagery, the plot, the art direction-- amazing. However, I think it loses a lot on the small screen, like many of Kubricks films, most notably 2001.

I think Kubrick is known for "re-imagining" this books he's filming. The Shining is a great example-- IMHO, it made it a very different movie that what King did with the book.

It changes the entire point of the book. The last chapter, about becoming a better person because one wants to become a better person is in contrast with the "treatment" Alex received where a person's free will was tossed aside and a person reprogrammed according to some "scientific" scheme pushed by socialist government.
Be warned, though, the movie portrayed the youths as older than they were in the book. Remember the scene from the movie where Alex picks up two hot chicks and has marathon sex? In the book a 15 year old Alex drugs and rapes pre-teen girls.

A Clockwork Orange is a great read if you can get past the Russian-based slang used by the main character Alex. You can find glossaries online. The slang words are brilliant.
I read it years ago but only recently learned about Chapter 21, the last chapter which got left out of the American edition, which is what Kubrick filmed. In Chapter 21, Alex is redeemed.
I also learned that author Anthony Burgess was a quite good music composer as well as an author, and deeply religious. During WWII his pregnant wife was savagely raped by four American deserters, and lost the child.

Tucker, the Awesomest Dog In The World, has gone missing.
At this hour, I figure that he's either been kidnapped, rescued, or worse - squashed somewhere.
I can't stand waiting until morning to call the vet & dog pound...

Sigh. I gave up.
Now, a rant: I certainly understand what Burgess was doing with the slang, however, it made the book hard to read. Really hard to read. And if you need a dictionary to understand what a fiction book is saying, you could be limiting your audience. If you limit your audience, you limit your message. And I don't know if that's a good thing for a writer to do.

I admit there's a lot of what I'd call "High School Classics" that I either never read, read so long ago I don't really remember them, or never got all the way through. Including:
- Fahrenheit 451
- Slaughterhouse-Five
- Catcher In The Rye/Franny & Zooey
- 1984/Animal Farm
...and others.

So I'm thinking Burgess wasn't thinking about broad appeal, he just wanted to get his story onto the paper so it could get hopefully published by somebody, sooner rather than later.

I've read it. It was written by Clarke, and he used it as the starting point of the novel.
All the rest of the stuff that you describe *is* in the novel - with one notable exception. In the novel, the transmission, and the Discovery's mission, is to one of the moons of Saturn, not Jupiter. Kubrick changed it to Jupiter in the movie, and Clarke stuck with that change in his follow-up novels because more people probably saw the movie than read the book.

Kubrick doesn't always get the best out of his actors. Jack in The Shining is an exception. So is Malcolm McDowell in Clockwork, which ruined his career -- like Norman Bates in Psycho.

Actually the novel I read in the 1980s, that I have the best memory of, is Catcher In The Rye. Not much happens, true, but I could relate to Holden Caulfield at the time.

The novel was done concurrently with the film, and the front cover says the book is based on the screenplay by Kubrick and Clarke. Notice who has his name first on the screenplay.
IIRC, Kubrick could not get the rings of Saturn to his liking; that's why it was changed to Jupiter.
/yeah, I had a point in life where I was a huge Kubrick nerd.

Later books, yes. Patronizing sentence structure and weird crap. Some of his early books were not in this pattern at all; they were real novels. Haven't reread them for years. The Sirens Of Titan was one, and I remember it positively.

I saw the movie version of "Slaughterhouse-Five" in college, then read the book. I became a Vonnegut fan for a while. "Cat's Cradle" is one of the funniest books I've ever read. Vonnegut was reportedly very pleased with the movie version of "Slaughterhouse-Five", incidentally.
I never have gotten around to reading "Animal Farm", but I have read "Brave New World". It seems like today's society resembles the mind-numbing hedonism of "Brave New World" more than the brutal totalitarianism of "1984".

I do believe much of what we read and listen do affects us differently depending on where we are in life. Sometime just 'eh' other times the same book can give us profound insights. It may be a page or just a sentence. At this point i just want to see what i might realize from the books mentioned. I'm not judging whether overall they are good or bad necessarily.

Over two decades ago, I was young and had these decidedly out of character wild moments.
Well, one of those wild moments included being invited to a threesome with two older rich British guys; I declined, and don't regret that. Ended up having a bit of a thing with one of them, who was the better choice IMHO. This is years ago. Decades.

I have a pretty good track record buying used hardcovers online. I don't buy the most or least expensive ones, but somewhere in the middle. I must be pretty good at reading the descriptions, because I've never been disappointed in a book's condition.

If you have a background in computer programming, and you've used the XOR operator on bitwise operations, you're going to have a tremendous leg up on everyone else.
Most of them can be solved by looking for a pattern in the rows involving XOR, and/or looking for a pattern in the columns involving XOR. Often there is a pattern to the rows and a pattern to the columns, which lead to the same result.
There are only a few instances where things are rotated.
I liked the very last question. It was far more interesting than any of the others. I would like to see more questions like that. I think, solving that question gave me a new tool to use in the future when I'm taking IQ tests...

Yeah I did see that place. It was the only one that even listed parker. I guess I could start there. The original is really dark, but was cracked all the way through, but was so oil contaminated the wood is soft and won't even take glue.

The first speaker for La La Land was kinda graceful under the circumstances, but you could tell he was incredibly angry with Beatty, and pushed him outta the way to say Moonlight had won, rather than letting Beatty clean up the mess as presenter.
The weird part is that they all let the third La La Land guy begin speaking even though they all knew something was wrong by then.

But that seems prone to accidents and incredibly reckless and likely to have caused a mistake like this long before now.
I'm not surprised Beatty and Dunaway screwed things up somehow, but I do find it hard to believe that the producers would have given him the wrong envelope.

Not just possible. It's the norm for the souvenir purpose and to allow entry from both stage ends. The wrong envelope was given both but both the envelope and card was plainly not the Best Picture and this should have been noted. It might have simply been a cute moment if one of the presenters said, 'We love you, Emma but you just cannot be Best Picture. Could we have the correct envelope?"

I didn't pay a lot for the gun. It was my friend's fathers gun. I remembered always seeing it since I was a kid, and he decided to sell it recently. I paid $700 for it because the stock was a little screwy, but the rest is in really nice shape. The barrels are perfect. Judging from what I see them sell for I'm pretty ahead of the game.

Gary Cooper has a small role as "Cadet White," who (spoiler alert!) dies in an air crash. He's barely on screen long enough for you to recognize him, but he was an absolute smash with audiences, and Wings set him on the road to stardom.
The female lead in Wings was Clara Bow, at her most candy-box-delicious, playing the "girl next door" who enlists as an ambulance driver in France.

They get ridiculously rich for doing very little actual work, so they feel guilty about it. Actually getting off your duff and doing something to alleviate the guilty feeling is tough, though...
But demanding other people do more, and virtue signaling so you can feel smug satisfaction for having "raised awareness" while not doing anything is easy.
People are lazy, and this is the easiest method they have of getting rid of that feeling of being an overpaid fraud.
