Meet The PetMorons

Our first entry today is Lola the English Setter.

This is my English Setter, Lola. My wife says she is the devil dog. Oh and that is one of her long coated Chihuahuas, Arrow, looking on. She has six of them. Poor Lola. Poor me,

This is Clyde, Bonnies brother and the kitty who plays fetch.
As you can see, he also prefers a superior firing position.
To add perspective, the white edge in the lower left is the top of our fridge.

This is Roxie. Excellent dog. Free from the pound, who just shrugged and said "Boxer mix." Our guess is Boxer + American Staffordshire, or maybe just AmStaff. Other guesses welcome.

Hello! I'm a longtime, daily lurker and have been since 2010. Love this site, Ace, the Cobs and especially the pet thread. Attached is a pic of my two dogs.
Greta was a loving and loyal Bernese Mountain dog who was by our side (sometimes underfoot) every second of the day until her hip dysplasia got to be too much for her. We still miss her.
Cooper is the Cavalier mix on the right, whom we rescued about 5 years ago. There may not be a sweeter, happier dog on the planet, although he still misses his Great-girl. Of note, he's not blind, just cross-eyed. Fits right in at our crazy house.

That place is pretty near my mom's house! In fact, years ago we lived just outside Lake Zurich in Kildeer, so I know the area fairly well. I'll definitely pass the info on to mom. She's kind of on her last whiff of sanity right now. Everything is so overwhelming. Thank you! I appreciate it.

51 My littlest black tom had a couple of nasty abscesses on his back, and I took him to the vets' to get stitched up. He got shaved, stitched up and shoved into a blue ruff to keep him from chewing, first the drainage tube, and then later the healing stitches.
I had him in a kennel which he found to be a hardship once he was really on the mend, and I got the stitches out last Thursday.

Poor guy is going to have seams like a baseball from now on, but when the hair grows back he may only show a badger stripe.

He is fine, he has put weight on from eating well and being cooped up, and just as hard to catch and hold now as he was when I first had to take him to the vets'.

Nothing is as expensive as a free kitten.

My old grey cat does that when he's hungry. it's kind of weird. It's not his meow, which sounds different.
My other calico cat cries at night when I turn off the lights and go to bed, until I fetch her up to bed with me. She's such a big baby sometimes.

She misses her best pal, my big yellow lab that died last summer.

Hey gang. Wifey and I saw "Kedi" a couple of weeks ago and it is a must-see IMHO. We were in Istanbul sadly just a week or so after the hideous Mavi Marmara incident. Anyway, the city is overrun with cats and it is incredible how the citizens of the city take care of them. If you can forget the tragedy that has befallen Turkey since Erdogan stole the country 11 odd years ago, it really is a remarkable place.

Go see the movie if it's playing near you (it's not in wide release). The cats are incredible.

Snakes actually make good low maintenance pets for people who aren't squeamish. You do have to handle them on a regular basis to keep them tame. I don't currently have a snake, but had a red-tailed boa constrictor when I was young.

74 Firefighter saves dog on the ice. That's Jamaica Pond. I used to live near it. We'd walk our shepherds over there. Probably happens about once a month in the winter. They chase a squirrel or a rabbit out and break through. Occasionally, they'd have a deer run out and break through and have to get them out.

Cats don't despise people, they just aren't people pleasers like dogs are. And they're ok with that. They haven't been domesticated as long as dogs, so humans have to earn their trust. Once a human earns their trust, a cat can be as loyal and forgiving as any dog in my experience. But it takes time and patience.

92 No im a cat person too. I even tame feral cats. I have a once feral calico who is as loving as any dog, as loyal, but a sharp judge of character. And i say this as a woman who has blue heelers and Aussie s ( gods most loyal dogs, in my experience)

My dad hated them too, so I never had any growing up. I never did get a straight answer from him as to why he hated them. I remember him taking off a shoe and throwing it at a cat that wandered into our backyard when I was a kid.

Many years later, I was living in an apartment and my neighbor adopted a long-haired black kitten named Chloe. She would wait for me at the window when I got home from work, and I petted her with one finger through a hole in the screen.

Chloe and I totally bonded, and it was definitely mutual. I could go on for hours with stories about her.

I have met my soulmate in this life, and she turned out to be a cat.

That's a white german shepard with a good bit of mud on his legs, almost certainly someones pet and desperately looking for some humans that will give him something to eat. My daughter has one that looks almost exactly like that. (yes, they all have pointy ears just like coyotes do)

One of my dogs loved my grandmother totally and was simply ridiculous jumping around her and when over at her house, going through every blessed corner to make sure she was secure. Grandma did not approve of animals in houses but she tolerated mine. I really wonder if the dog would have left me for her.

104 My sister- who will be back on her way to England via Dublin in about an hour-has two Bernese Mountain Dogs. She's owned that breed for 19 years. One of the Bernese is about 100 lbs, the other about 70. She says they do have a lot of health problems, but her last Bernese lived to be 13 which is rather old for that breed Very good tempered. loyal dogs. She doesn't have any children, except that her dogs are like her children.

Anyhoo, my eldest cat is watching my fingers type, and growing angrier with each touch.

You see, my hands were designed, in his opinion, for one purpose: stroking his head, scratching his back, running fingers through his coat.

Any other use is an insult, to him. It's personal.

And he's been remarkably tolerant of this one post here.

Oh, and where's the dog? In the other room. She really doesn't care what I do with my hands.

I'll see that and raise you a "free" rescue dog. I probably could have gotten a National Field Trial Champion for what Layla has cost us in meds for her blood disorder. But it wouldn't be Layla, the sweetest dog we've ever had. When she came to us, at 2 years old, the vet doubted that she would live to be 5. Last month she had her sixth birthday and is an energetic, enthusiastic, goofy piece of our hearts.

One of our cats was born and raised in a shelter. Lovely place, but she really had no exposure to free roaming, and I assume rarely any view of the outside world.

She was six years old when I brought her home (why her? Because she spent her whole life in a shelter!), she sweet and affectionate when she decides to be. Most of the time though, she hides or runs away when I am coming near.

I wouldn't have it any other way. She is who she is, and it's a privilege having her in our home.

120 I found clear evidence that there was a rat in my apartment. My neighbor was going away for the weekend, and I asked her if I could borrow Chloe.

I had to buy cat food, a litter box, and litter. Chloe didn't catch the rat, but I never saw any evidence afterwards. The rat evidently decided to go elsewhere.

But a permanent friendship was forged that weekend.

Last Sunday we had to euthanize one of the sweetest animals I've ever known (and I've had dogs, horses, and other felines).

Our precious 14 y.o. Spanky. She had been having health issues for a couple of weeks, and the vet was trying to pin down what was going on. So of course, while the vet was closed, she began moaning and gasping for air on Sunday morning. I stayed by her side (and her "sister" Sandy lay down beside her) and we comforted her as best we could until my husband made it back from church and we could take her to the 24 hr. emergency clinic.

I've never been so brokenhearted to hold an animal as it drew its last breath in my arms. Husband, son and I kissed her and told her how much we loved her, and she was "talking" to us to let us know she wanted to go home.

Anyhow, I sent a lovely picture of her to Mis Hum in happier, healthier days. She was truly our "puppy cat" and loved every single person she met. Hope her picture is posted soon. She and Sandy were on the very first pet thread.

138 I have a 17 minute rambling video interview that needs editing down to more palatable 1.5 to 2 minute vid. I have no experience or knowledge in this field - but it's a digital file I can send to anyone with the relevant abilities.

Anyone here do that? Know anyone that does? Have any idea of what the cost might be?

It's an interview inside an enclosed vegetable growing room, well-lit, but it is so unprofessional and rambling it cannot be used to show off the start-up growing operation that had it made. I'm considering getting an edited short vid at my expense just to help them. But I don't know what to expect in the way of expense.

Any advice and/or direction will be appreciated.

My little cat I've had for 7 years. The vet told me when I took him in the first time that he tested positive for FLV and would probably only live 6 months top.

Except for this and a previous abscess, he has been remarkably healthy. Part of the reason and the expense is he and my big black tom like to wrestle.

I've mentioned it before, there are few things as wonderful as sitting in the back yard on a dewy Summer morning feeling the morning cool start to burn off, listening to the birds, drinking bitter coffee and watching the cats rassle on the grass.

I was once walking on a path at the Newport Back Bay (California) when some other walkers caught up to me and told me that a coyote had been tracking me from my right, a little behind me. A number of pets disappeared along the side of that wild-ish area.
