My new co-worker talks about her daughter and her family who are all Vegans. Kids and all. Every Thursday my co-worker is in charge of making them a Vegan dinner. Some of the recipes sound absolutely awful. Also I have to hear about her granddaughter( from same vegan family) who is 5 and convinced she is a boy. They took her to a shrink who said "go with it". So now she refers to her granddaughter as her grandson. My head spins some days.....

My DIL insists my grandkids eat gluten, egg, sugar, milk, peanut and meat free. Because they are deathly allergic to it all don't cha know.
I, of course, agree to it. And then stuff them with whatever they like when they eat at papas. Not a hive or bellyache yet.

Why don't you just mix something in with it? Right now I'm drinking "hard stuff". Vodka and diet Coke. One 8 oz cup. Two shots of vodka and I top it off with the coke. I don't drink straight liquor, because my stomach wouldn't be able to handle it. I suspect Hillary would be able to drink me under the table.

Vic I had read one of your comments on last post about antibiotics etc milk, I'm not going to really address that but I hope you are looking at strong probiotuics yoguts in future, as you know my spouse is also experiencing a similar experience , but with liver (not a drinker just to clarify assumptions), cellulitis etc (vascular weakness and so on), and because his immune system is weak many courses of antibiotics caused c diff which almost killed him.

I don't think that's very cool man. If my parents or inlaws did that I'd be furious. It's not about food, it's about they're not YOUR kids and you should respect their parents' decisions on how to raise them.

I (and the other set of grands) are trying to save the kids from their mother. For example, no baths and unwashed hair for a week, a 2 and 5 year old getting themselves ready for school everyday (mom off to yoga early), no help with homework, and on and on.
Mom voluntarily gave up her authority by her action and lack of action long ago. Parental neglect is hard to prove if mom and dad are living together and they are well off.
I see you alls point - but, as I said, it's complicated.

I'm not vegan but I do try to stay away from processed foods as much as I can. And I try to keep my kids away from processed foods as much as I can. And it irritates me me when people dismiss that as some type fad or silly thing. Maybe it's a fad (it's not) maybe it's silly (it's not) but it doesn't matter. I am the parent I get to decide what they eat. And it's really nobody else's business.

At a garage sale I was holding, the 10 year neighbor boy came by and bought 4 comic books for a buck. They were Archies, from my son's stuff. Twenty minutes later he was back, and asked for his dollar back. His parents (who I had met previously, they were Christian missionaries) wouldn't allow him to have those books.
Sad, to me, but not abusive. I felt sorry for the little guy.

Thanks willow. Right now I need to focus on my two young boys and fight to be in their lives as much as possible. My first commitment after God are my boys. Maybe in 10 years I'll try again, but their mom has put me in a large 6 figure hole with lawfare to elimate me from their lives. Court is still going on and apparently not having their father in their lives is considered healthy even by experts when the rubber meets the road at the end of the day (other lawyers and experts talk big at the beginning but they know where their bread is buttered and it ain't by fathers and men's lobbyist groups in DC and state capitals).

Willow no worries. I've embraced it and it has led me to discover that I can still make a difference by my decisions that I make on a daily basis. Well, I have two more grandchildren arriving this year. One I will see daily (like current 2yo) and one I will probably not see much. Son lives in WI and his kid will be first grandkid on the other side, so I don't expect to have much hands-on influence with that one. They are already floating name suggestions and my youngest mentioned 'sounds like a dog's name', so things could get testy going forward.

The charter school I got my kids in have a strict "no nuts" policy. They are not permitted in any form for any food that enters the building and we are constantly remind of it in flyers and newsletters or whenever there is an event that might involve food. It's a strange obsession, as if peanuts were a toxic waste that could kill on contact. I was hoping by enrolling in a charter school we would get away from this type insanity but, as I am finding out, they too are infected, although not nearly as bad as public schools. Too many helicopter mothers that are worried to death about every health scare they hear from Fake News.

Kids are not parents BFFs, and parents love to stick their kids on their diets. Grandson #1 goes to a charter school. I haven't seen signs of any PC crapola. I suppose it doesn't mean it's not there, but I haven't seen it and I'm there twice a week. He loves wearing his uniform, especially the tie. He's 5 years old and feels good about being nicely dressed. That in and of itself is a positive.

As far as policy, it's all been low hanging fruit so far. I do believe though when we get to the tough part ( Obamacare, Immigration Legislation/ Wall) he will be successful in that also.
I think tax reform will be the most difficult though to get through without major compromise of what he wants.

So if the administration starts enforcing current federal drug laws that include MJ, either two things will happen...A whole lot of people will end up prosecuted for possession and trafficking or Congress will decide to legalize MJ, which will make all the potheads happy until they realize how many taxes they will pay to buy an ounce.

We are in Georgia, not aware of this problem. Our school is a first year charter school and was put together by a group of highly motivate parents that were sick of all the public schools in our area. Application for next year are through the roof.

We are in Georgia, not aware of this problem. Our school is a first year charter school and was put together by a group of highly motivate parents that were sick of all the public schools in our area. Application for next year are through the roof.

Willow, perhaps you were simplifying a long chain of events, but c.diff is not "caused" by antibiotics. It is a bacterium that is spread by careless sanitation (i.e. not washing hands thoroughly between patients and tasks), and is often contracted in nursing homes and post-op rehab facilities. My mom got it, and it was hell to get rid of. We finally got her to an infectious diseases whiz, who ordered cipro (iirc) every other day - not daily - and this schedule finally worked. He described it thus: Antibiotics tend to work like Roundup in the GI tract, wiping out everything, good and bad. Much like your fencerow post-Roundup, what comes back first? Weeds. Apparently, c.diff behaves like the weeds and flourishes in a post-antibiotic environment, but it takes 36-48 hours to show up. Going to a 48-hour interval allowed the c.diff to pop its head up so the cipro could find it and kill it; daily doses just make it lay low but don't kill it. I'm sure both mom's doc and I am simplifying a more-complex process, but please ask your doc about the 48-hour interval to get rid of c.diff. Meanwhile, y'all are in my prayers.

All I have in my yard right now is mud and leftover leaves. Pretty grim. I have been trying to back into the driveway (easier to work on the car) and my serious small-scale driving skills, like parking, are out there for the whole neighborhood to jeer. Strange not to have snow and I keep waiting to get blizzarded.

Karl Denninger had a post the other day saying the first thing for marijuana advocates to do is lobby to get it removed from DEA's Schedule 1 classification. It's absurd that a plant is classified the same as refined products like cocaine and heroin.

Accidental discharges involving dogs are common enough that there are a few mentions in the state hunter education course. The big one is boats. A dog entering a boat is more likely to bound around a few times, and if a shotgun is lying on the bottom instead of clamped in a holder, the pawshot will hole the boat. The wrestler is a biological female who decided to become a boy. But to competitively wrestle in Texas, the state law requires one must wrestle the same gender as one was born with.

Reminds me of the one-off X-Files episode when they're in Hollywood, because somebody was making a film that involved Mulder and Scully (or similar characters, I don't remember), and they were FBI expert advisors for the film.

I figure it teaches him that diff homes have different rules when it comes to the smaller stuff (learning how to adapt to diff environments), and there are things that his grandparents strictly enforce that we don't. It all works out

Title IX means that the little darlins can get a full ride to a wrestling team, where the percentage of boy receiving ANY percentage of a scholarship is in the low single digits.

Re: hard boiled eggs. I've been using the method here, http://tinyurl.com/mljapo9 with modified by cooking 13-14 min. and putting some baking soda in the water. I use a small canning jar basket to put a dozen or so in a large pot of boiling water at once and to pull them back out to plunge into ice water. Might have one crack from the temp change going into the boiling water. They peel nice and with the right timing no green or smell.
