Surprise: That CIA Officer Who Made Much Drama About Quitting Due to Trump Was a Big Hillary Donor and a Top Lieutenant to Ben Rhodes, the "Echo Chamber" Maestro

And slow clap to the Useful Idiots of the right who spread this op-ed around uncritically, despite the fact that, even before this disclosure, it read like "Hillary Clinton's scripted anti-Trump debate zingers," as a guy named @PolicyLord observed.

Bret Scher:

A CIA employee who contributed thousands of dollars to Hillary Clinton in 2016 and who is a registered Democrat announced his decision to leave the agency in a Washington Post column published Sunday, writing that his departure "had nothing to do with politics."

Edward Price resigned from the CIA last week and used the Washington Post to explain his decision that he could not "in good faith serve this administration as an intelligence professional." Price wrote that his "decision had nothing to do with politics," and that he "would have been proud to again work under a Republican administration."

"As intelligence professionals, we’re taught to tune out politics," Price wrote.

Unmentioned by Price or the Washington Post is the fact that Price gave $5,000 to the Hillary Victory Fund, a joint fundraising committee that splits contributions between the Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee. Public records indicate that Price is registered to vote as a Democrat in the District of Columbia.

Price rose through the ranks at the White House during the Obama administration. By the end of the administration, Price was the top spokesman and a senior director for Obama's National Security Council.

Price reportedly worked hand in hand with Obama's deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes in his effort to create an "echo chamber" during the administration's nuclear negotiations with Iran.

I desperately wish to quote more of this but I cannot. But read the article -- Scher details that it was largely this asshole Price who bragged about his ability to get all the Twitterati to repeat his nonsense about Iran and other Obama fuck-ups.

"This had nothing to do with politics." Oh, dear. Oh dear.

After the Free Beacon prodded the National Laughingstock -- and apparently at first, the National Laughingstock refused to explain the reason it hadn't identified Mr. "This had nothing to do with politics" as very political indeed -- the National Laughingstock has added a short "clarification" acknowledging his partisan leanings.

Actually, of course, this is an unacknowledged correction, as their original version, sans this "clarification," was essentially false -- Price did not carefully "tune out politics" at all. Again, go to the first story to read his glee at being able to get all the progressive dolts to carry his partisan spinning for Obama.

Democracy dies in darkness -- am I right or am I right?

apparently, the new wordchange/talking point on the Left is to-

call Gov't regulations Gov't protections.

As in Trump gonna take away your protections.

If your local/national newsbastard uses this term,

you can be sure that they are a Democrat flak- Fake News Progdroid-

It burned me that the redo of 'Tinker, Tailor' saw fit to make Benedict Cumberbach's version of Peter Guillam was transmogrified from hetero to homo. Guys like that were routinely booted out as security risks during the era the story is set in, so there's a little 21st century PC that doesn't work.

Speaking of spy thrillers, there were some great television adaptations of Len Deighton's Bernard Samson stories a while ago, but I heard that Deighton refused to allow to release them on any kind of video. Hopefully someday they'll get out.

Assuming you're a guy, there is a lot of medical evidence out there that 1-3 oz of alcohol per day is beneficial to your health.

So...1 beer or 1 small glass of wine or 1 small cocktail
with dinner won't harm you and probably does you good.

If you're drinking more than that, you should cut back.

If you smoke, you should definitely pick one because alcohol and smoking act synergistically to produce cancer.

If you want to lose weight, alcohol is "empty" calories so yeah, you might lose weight if you quit or cut way down.

But, read the info for yourself.

And quitting time to time isn't a bad Idea esp. if you think you might not be able to.

Good luck.

Oh. Qualifications. Okay, let's talk qualifications. Not only did Obama put failed novelist Ben Rhodes on the NSC, but also Tom Donilon.

Donilon, the lavishly compensated former Fannie Mae lawyer (who somehow didn't notice anything amiss internally as Fannie was ramping up to its spectacular implosion), who had absolutely no relevant intelligence, military or foreign policy experience.

And... former campaign van driver Tommy Vietor was also elevated to the NSC. Who, in a nationally televised interview, responded to a journalist's questions about the aftermath of Benghazi with the indignant reply, "Dude, this was like two years ago!"

I've heard it's really hard to direct in a language that's not your first. Spielberg was going to film Schindler's List in German but decided against it because he knew he wouldn't be able to direct the actors as well.

Posted by: TheJamesMadison at February 23, 2017 02:01 PM (vur0q)

I would think it's more important that the director be fluent in the language of the audience than of the movie/actors.

Schindler's List was good. Not the world's greatest film but in the top 100.

256 227 Don't hate me, but I loved Oldman in Dracula. I wish Ryder was a better actress with a better accent, and Keanu, (who is great in Wick and the Matrix), wasn't so wooden in it, but the sets were gorgeous, it was sensual, and I felt bad for Oldman. I'm usually critical of movies that really deviate from the lit, but I thought he was good in it.

Not perhaps his BEST, but when I rewatch that movie, I usually rewatch it for him.

Keanu Reeves plays it straight in Dangerous Liaisons, which is set in....Vienna? In the 1800s.

But, he's just off of the Bill and Ted movies and very much still has that surfer accent going (it was awful casting, to say the least).

Anyway, when he first shows up, he's come out of an opera with tears in his eyes, and someone asks him what he thought of the production. His reply was, "It was divine!" I would have stood up and clapped if the line had gone just a little bit further and he had added, "We had a most triumphant time!"

What happened to stating forthrightly I cannot stay and work for a person/organization with whom's values I do not agree? That's a position with integrity. That's stronger than this obvious lie of oh politics has nothing to do with it. I get that the National Laughingstock is all in on Trump is so dangerous no one wants to work for him but, c'mon, when something like this is written the first thing anyone assumes is that it's based in politics.

So own it. Do the article saying that since Trump is promoting views that are fundamentally opposed to mine I left and here is why my views are best for the country. That? That has some measure of integrity to it and will go further than this folderol.

Each scene serves a purpose of developing the plot, the characters, or the setting, and not the director's ego.

Well, not quite. Two members of the Cambridge 5 spy ring (Guy Burgess and Anthony Blunt) that pretty much made MI6 and open book to the Soviets in the 40s and 50s were gay. If you read about how long they operated with virtually no real oversight or initial vetting it's faily amazing. Some of these individuals had relatively open communist sympathies in their college days. homosexuality among the English upper classes and public school set seem to have been very much don't ask, don't tell and don't get caught in a scandal.

For some reason, they didn't believe me and put it on anyway. They finished it, but when they found me afterwards they said, "When you say a movie is slow...damn...it's slow."

334 You know ... there's an old joke/story about women and math. A famous mathematician was asked if there were any great women mathematicians. He thought for a second and replied,

"Well, there are two ... but one isn't a mathematician and the other isn't a woman."

P.S. He was referring to Sonya Kovalevsky and Emmy Noether, respectively.

336 Prometheus - the actions of the Engineer when they revived him made no sense whatsoever. He lacks any information about conditions - the species he was meant to wipe out have showed up at his door, so clearly a long time has passed. he knows nothing of how many of these humans are there, knows nothing about their weapons or intent. So what does he do? Kills them with his bare hands and then tries to launch his craft to finish the mission, the very purpose of which might long since have passed. As I say, makes no sense.

I'm pretty sure it was Ace who brought up the point in volume XII of his review, but the geologist character was dumb. There was a point about 'clean' and 'dirty' space; Nostromo was a clapped-out ore hauler with a crew who were basically space OTR truckers, move this to there, get paid. Prometheus was supposed to be 'clean' space, first trip to a world to make contact with or investigate an unknown intelligence, with huge corporate funding.

Then they get a punk-rock asshole geologist who is Not A Team Player, 'fook all o'dis, Ah'm here to make moneh' asshole, who decides to run off and do his own thing. It doesn't really fit.

If a corporation is going to hire scientists to take a years long journey into deep space to investigate...something that the corporation won't say, they're not going to attract the "clean" professors in white lab coats. You've got the Climate Change Act in the UK that was drafted by a little piece of enviroactivist filth who got gonged a baroness for her efforts under Blair.

And you've got a couple large coal plants, notably this Drax thing, that were as a result converted to run on wood pellets because then the operator gets credit for using 'renewable' biomass.

And those wood pellets come from forests in the American South by ship. It's always smelled bad economically, and environmentally, and now it's starting to be documented as such (WUWT link):

https://goo.gl/AGvSds

And the climate-change minister at the time all this got put into place was a guy named Chris Huhne.

And guess what he's doing now? He's chairman of a US wood-pellet operation.

Because they let him make whatever else he wants.

It's similar to how Chris Nolan kept making Batman movies, and in between he put out The Prestige, Inception, and Interstellar (well, immediately after the last one).

All in all the Transformers movies do suck (although I like the first one), but I think Bay just shoots the shit out of whatever script lands in his lap. He's not going to make any effort to improve that script, but it'll look great. So, if the script it good, it's gonna come out awesome, but if the script is bad, it's gonna be a polished turd.

The one good part about Prometheus was the beginning scene where the guy deteriorates into the water. But that was about it. The stupidity of the movie was ... awesome. Of course, the original Alien movie was okay, but it was a stupid story that made no sense and later attempts to build sequels on top of it and try to "explain" the nonsensical story just got worse and worse.

You see, there's the thing.

Private jet ownership is one of those rungs on the ladder where, once you reach that point, you will kill not to fall below that again.

Being able to hop out of the car at the executive terminal, walk through security screening by a TSA staffer selected for his understanding that virtually everyone he's dealing with has in his phone the number of someone who can get him fired, walk onto the plane with your dogs on the leash, and go wherever you've got fuel money to pay for...

Anyway, when he first shows up, he's come out of an opera with tears in his eyes, and someone asks him what he thought of the production. His reply was, "It was divine!" 438 Sessions is surely busy, I don't expect to see/hear a lot of him, but: the judicial coup now enters its third week, and a new EO only concedes the usurpation of undisputed, unambiguous executive power.

"Dreamers" crap EO should be reversed, per TPOP above.

Also, there is no "trade-off" with Dreamers crap. There is no bargaining going on, there is no implicit or explicit political or substantive relationship between "dreamers" illegality and enforcing existing law, as is STARTING to happen today. This "trade-off" thing is imagined, among some of the more sensible people who favor rule of law, but it has no corresponding meaningful real-world element among the racists and lawlessness zealots.

It's always been obvious what should be done: exist enforcing laws, crush the sanctuary city lawlessness, secure the border, crush major companies or sectors that use illegal labor (force them to stop their addiction), thereby changing both reality and the pool temperature.

By the time those things are well under way, the "dreamers" nonsense will both 1) be materially reduced, as rational actors respond to incentives/threats, and 2) the "politics" of this stuff will be aligned with the political reality, i.e. the political class will be more in line with the 75/25 or 80/20 super-majorities that favor, and have always favored, all the basic steps to return to rule of law on immigration.

------------------

Won't argue with that. As mentioned above, he seems to know what kind of roles he's best suited for. And his status in Hollywood gives him the pull he needs to only pick the scripts that fit with that.

Good for him. I wish more actors had the necessary combination of humility and wisdom to practice that. There are a few. But not many.

'Much Ado About Nothing' appears to have been a misstep on his part, though - at least as far as his character is concerned.

The human part of Twister was okay, but the twisters and the storms that produce them weren't very well done. As a matter of fact, their CGI sucked.
Posted by: Soona at February 23, 2017 03:01 PM (Fmupd)

====================

They were the best of the time, which is indicative of the problem that CGI had it's first 20-30 years (and may continue to have, but I'm doubtful).

They generally just didn't look that great, and I think we as an audience lied to ourselves about how good they looked. I did at least.

I remember defending the cartoony effects of the Neo vs. Many Agent Smiths fight scene in The Matrix Reloaded, but watching it now, and it's very plainly obvious.

I still think practical effects end up looking better than most CGI. Truly convincing CGI, when paired with real things like actors and sets, needs to be of such high quality that only the most expensive of movies can afford it. And even then, I wouldn't be surprised if, in 10 years, I look back at the movies from 2016-2017 and say, "Wow, it all looks so fake."

Oh, yeah. Blade Runner still looks great.

The example I keep coming to, though, is The Lord of the Rings and their use of very large miniatures.

They took huge pieces of Styrofoam, carved them, painted them, and then placed them in front of green screens.

The Argonath...they put the camera right up to that thing and it looks fantastic. Even today.

It takes a lot of computer space and rendering power to get close to that.

538 Greetings:

One of my guilty pleasures is watching the "Charlie Rosie" interview show on the local Progressive (née Public) Broadcasting System's channel. I justify that use of my time as what today's military calls IPB, Intelligence Preparation of the Battlefield.

Back before the Presidential election, Mr. Rosie interviewed Mike Morrell who had worked for many years at the CIA and reportedly "ran" the place for a significant number of minutes. Mr, Morrell is blessed with a physiological look that any altar boy of my day would have gratefully been martyred for. Even the part in his hair astounds.

The gist of Mr. Morrell's colloquy that evening had been concerned with the upcoming election. His almost unequivocal statement (remember he was an intelligence analyst guy) was that he would do anything he could to see that Misses Clinton was elected First Lady President.

Now the Bronx part of my altar boy history coughed up the idea that this may have been a preemptive unsolicited employment plea of the plight your troth type. But the post altar boy part of my life experience prompted the reaction that this seemed to be a pretty seriously plighted bit of troth inferring a seriously held bit of political ideology that seemed to overcome that "bathroom server" kerfuffle and come away unscathed.

And I'm quite sure that Mr. Morrell was not a minute lonely during his extensive govermental career.
