I have no idea why the public trusts Trump more than the media.

No, he isn't. He says "look what happened in Sweden last night" when he means "I saw something about Sweden on Fox last night".

He is given to imprecision. He counts on "us" to understand what he meant. He gives "them" all the fodder they need to declare him an ignoramus.

So we backfill and say "that's not really what he meant, he meant this other thing that we agree with". And we (including me) agree with a lot of what he's trying to do.

If he's so smart and so awesome that he merits a Chuck Norris/Fred Thompson thread, why can't he be bothered to learn to articulate unambiguous thoughts?

I know he's never had to, but I think now he has to.

He has an extemporaneous style and regularly includes some exaggerations, occasionally errors, or mischaracterizations - though I have yet to see a major factoid or issue actually misrepresented (leaving aside policy disputes where we're talking about analytical opinions, not facts).

70 It will be interesting to see what the end game to all of this will be for Europe/Scandinavia.

I really don't think there will be some fascist movement that rounds them up, most of these places will simply fall to Muslims while the "natives" watch their wives and daughters getting gang raped but being too scared they will be called a racist to do anything about it.

They really have gone full Stockholm over there if the only time it gets mentioned is when Trump makes a "gaffe" about it.

72 Nope, Bander, not at all.

Trump could be as articulate and substantive as a Newt Gingrich on some important issue, but that wouldn't change a thing. Including with the press "coverage".

All that matters is the results, the policies.

Citing this Swedish thing as an example of how Trump *needs* to be more precise and polished in his remarks would comical. He referred to a subject - one that is well known to anyone following the European immigration disaster, and generally known and instinctively (correctly) understood by large majorities - in a way that made his point, and broadened awareness of the problem, thanks in part to the media's behavior.

The sloppiness or imprecision made no difference.

I agree there are numerous things he brought up on the campaign trail that most people didn't know about the press made a fuss and once people begin to educate themselves agreed with Trump

And I'm just not coming up with any recollection of the media having said _anything_ of the sort about Obama at the time.

No, he isn't. He says "look what happened in Sweden last night"
when he means "I saw something about Sweden on Fox last night".

He is given to imprecision. He counts on "us" to understand what he
meant. He gives "them" all the fodder they need to declare him an
ignoramus.

So we backfill and say "that's not really what he meant, he meant
this other thing that we agree with". And we (including me) agree with a
lot of what he's trying to do.

If he's so smart and so awesome that he merits a Chuck Norris/Fred

unambiguous thoughts?

Those that must always scold Trump for being so pedestrian would perhaps seem to be missing something ... missing a lot. His free-wheeling style leaves out some details at times, but those gaps leave questions that are probed and answered, or sometimes it is just flowery language. Relax ... he's on a roll.

But I do think people appreciate blunt and to the point, and he does deliver that well.

By the way, as others have noted, Donald Trump can be very well spoken, articulate, and sound very educated and informed. Why he's not doing that these days I don't know, maybe he knows it would hurt his brand.

I can perhaps explain this.

Trump is a storyteller. He tells stories, anecdotes and does always provide succinct sound bites. That's his natural speaking style. He can't help it, and, to be honest, might not even be aware that *some* people have a problem with that. I know all of this because I do the same thing.

That being said, the MSM is lazy. They want quick sound bites, and they don't want to listen. They're on Tinder at press conferences, planning their next hook up.

If you listen to Trump, you'll understand what he says.

It's when the MSM tries to interpret what he says that they get in trouble.

As for Trump changing his style... I don't think it's necessary. The public understood his message and he got elected. Let the MSM learn to listen and do their job.

Trump isn't looking twenty moves ahead. He's very good at reading the mood of the crowd, and his opponents, and has the instincts to work with that. He's like a swordsman who goes for the bind, once his opponent has committed to an action he starts playing from there.

Sure, nothing happened "yesterday" in Sweden, but he's instinctively put Sweden in people's minds. He's also caused his opponents to commit themselves to the idea that everything is perfectly fine and there are absolutely no problems in Sweden. They now look silly and he comes out ahead.

Fox News host Tucker Carlson interviewed documentarian Ami Horowitz about his upcoming film about violence involving migrants in Sweden. Horowitz claims that the Swedish government is downplaying an uptick in violence that followed a wave of refugee migration into the country.

I... might do the above once and a while. I'm not really sure. Sometimes I talk a bit too fast and words/though gush out.

Here's the thing: we have been listening to the stuttering clusterfuck for eight years. He could not form a complete sentence without a teleprompter and then he stuttered.

Compared to him, I suppose that Trump could be difficult to follow at times for some. I don't have a problem with him, but I also speak in complex verbal patterns.

However, he is great with crowds. Maybe, just maybe, this is a 70 year old man who is trying to find his way in this new job and there is a learning curve.

251 So, I'm a big fan of MBTI. Here is their description of those they categorize as Intuitives (big picture thoughtful vs. literal type detail people) :

"Intuitives, on the other hand, barely notice details because their minds are busy looking for patterns, considering possibilities and interpreting what the information they are sensing means. Intuitives often focus on the long term, and like using strategy to pursue goals. For them, information has little meaning until it can be placed into a larger framework.

Intuitives have been characterized as relying on their unconscious perceptions. An intuitive may be able to tell you that the man next door is not trustworthy, but be unable to tell you exactly how they know this. "

254 I'm in agreement that Trump's delivery is an asset.

The professional Republican politicians that spend hours agonizing over every word in order not to deliver a soundbite that can be used against them fail. They are playing the left's game, and are censoring themselves in response to the faux outrage machine.

Trump won't play their game, and delivers direct, nearly unfiltered comments. The media howls in outrage, BUT, they then quote, verbatim what Trump said in order to roll their eyes at how unsophisticated he is.

But note, they are delivering Trump's message with minimal editing, because they think it is laughable.

The rest of the country hears what Trump said, and understand what he meant. The country didn't elect a politician. We don't expect a politician.

What Obama was doing was filibustering.

He had to hold occasional pressers, for the sake of appearances, but didn't want to actually have to answer a bunch of questions, so he would take just a handful of them from friendly journalistas, and then rhetorically meander off during each one.

Presto! 45-minute "press conference", five softball questions given vague gassy nonresponsive "answers", then, hey folks, the President's a busy man, he's got places to be and things to do, see you next time, kthxbye.

258 Active measures.

Well, exactly. He's taking specific action to protect Jews and end antisemitism, instead of talking about it.

261 I used to read thelocal.se on a regular basis. So back I went ...

"Swedish press photographer assaulted in Rinkeby riots"

LINK: http://preview.tinyurl.com/z5zr9gq

and, in an Olympic-level exercise in truth-avoidance, matched only by pro-AGW enthusiasts:

"Why Sweden is NOT the 'rape capitol of the world'"

LINK: http://preview.tinyurl.com/zoemt84

Excerpt:

"...
Sweden has 63.5 reported rape incidents per 100,000 citizens, compared
to 27.3 per 100,000 in the US, or 27.9 per 100,000 in Belgium, the
nearest European country based on those numbers."

262 153 Lakoff is a linguist guy, came up with "you didn't build that" dialogue (pretty sure).

He says of Trump "So far as I can tell, he is simply using effective discourse mechanisms to communicate what his wants to communicate to his audience."

That is how I see Trump ... not boring, skips around and engages people instead of sounding scripted and boring. Those that must always scold Trump for being so pedestrian would perhaps seem to be missing something ... missing a lot. His free-wheeling style leaves out some details at times, but those gaps leave questions that are probed and answered, or sometimes it is just flowery language. Relax ... he's on a roll.

Along these lines, I always wondered if people in the press would connect a couple of dots about the Hillary campaign. Such as, she demanded and got huge speaking fees for her speeches, yet when she spoke for free on the campaign trail, had trouble filling her venues.

263 It's going to be a long 4 or 8 years for people wanting Trump to change.

I'm elated by: Not having Hillary in the Oval Office. Watching Trump's appointments. Watching the Left continue to lose its collective hive mind. Watching the media lose its collective hive mind. Watching the list of things Trump is doing, day after day.

I was on board before the election, but he's exceeded my expectations so far.

265 Grump, I see those are made in N. Carolina. Have you shot one?

I have not. Other than an actual Henry H01, I have nothing smaller than .30. I'm just thinking that for that price, I could burn Russian bimetal steel case and not worry about anything. 6 pos. stock and 16" barrel makes it a good home defense weapon, providing it is reliable.

266 There's a public Trump and a private Trump. I remember reading an account by an exec who had sat across the table from him doing a deal (Zero Hedge maybe?) Trump's data, even on the guy's own company, was more recent. He didn't have to look at his stack of data to quote from it. He paid no attention to anyone but the exec; if someone from the guy's team spoke, Trump ignored him. Cut to the chase. A fast, thorough, productive meeting.

That's the private Trump.

We need them both.

268 How can Trump be an anti Semite when his fucking grandchildren are Jews?
Posted by: Sam at February 21, 2017 06:49 PM (lEhiV)

Yup. Total implication of of ABC News, delivered in its typical run on, style (I hate news reports like that...)

Two things it made me think.

Wait! Ivanka is a Jewish convert, and her husband and kids are Jewish. How can you dare imply this ABC?

Second. Since when do we need the President to comment on every little thing? Isn't the FBI looking into this? Maybe the President needs not say anything?

Cause, isn't this still a local event?

Oh and isn't President Trump like really close friends with the Israeli PM?

But, its all in service to the arch-Narrative.

269 Did you know there is an entire Wikipedia page devoted to grenade attacks in Sweden? Seriously, go look it up. It's been skyrocketing since...oh...2013. There's even a note in there about the summer of 2015 being dubbed the "Summer of Unrest" by the fucking prime minister...

...but oh yeah, those crazy Americans, thinking there's anything violent happening Sweden. Dey so racist.

NPR or BBC radio had a segment a few weeks ago with an interview of a Farsi translator in England for BBC. He not only has to figure out what Trump actually means with his bizarre use of words but then provide a meaningful translation all within seconds. He seemed to approach it as a bigly professional challenge.
