The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

When you get to be President, there are all those things, the honors, the twenty-one gun salutes, all those things. You have to remember it isn't for you. It's for the Presidency. Harry S Truman

Quote II

It's one of the few regrets of my presidency - that the rancor and suspicion between the parties has gotten worse instead of better. There's no doubt a president with the gifts of Lincoln or Roosevelt might have better bridged the divide, and I guarantee I'll keep trying to be better so long as I hold this office. Barack Obama

Cough, Bullshit, Cough, Bullshit. His entire presidency was nothing but to divide and conquer along political philosophies.

Quote III

No man will ever carry out of the Presidency the reputation which carried him into it. Thomas Jefferson

Quote IV

There are no constraints on the human mind, no walls around the human spirit, no barriers to our progress except those we ourselves erect. Ronald Reagan

President's Day: How we got stuck with this holiday.

Didn't get your POTUS fix here tonight? Listen to 10 famous Presidential speeches.

*****

President's Day, just another excuse not to get mail or be waited on at the local DMV. Our current POTUS is being demonstrated against on regular basis. The latest comes from Madison, WI. Will these demonstrations be successful? At age 22 being buck naked and smelling of intoxicants is not the way to change hearts and minds.

See the World Famous Glory Hole Spillway at Lake Berryessa overflowing for the first time ever from the perspective of a drone. The Lake Berryessa News, with authorization from dam operators, shows you what you want to see! This video is all about the spillway!

Recent rains not only brought the lake up, but they also brought lots of rocks and mud down onto Hwy 128. The Hwy will remain closed until the end of the day today so crews can clean up. www.VisitLakeBerryessa.com

A 21 year old kid fighting for his life and country.Captured his WWII experience by sketching.

Lundy, who is now 92, recalls his inability to listen during lectures. “I was busy sketching,” he admits. During his time in the infantry, he continued to sketch in his pocket-sized notebooks. The drawings, which were created between May and November 1944—when Lundy was wounded—take us from his initial training in Fort Jackson to the front lines in France. The vivid images show everything from air raids to craps games for cigarettes. A sense of longing for home is a recurring theme in his sketches, which include detailed drawings of his bunk as well as particularly dream-like drawing, titled Home Sweet Home, that shows a soldier lounging on a hammock.

Critical Thinking 101 Bull Shit 101

Scientists around the world are even organizing a series of marches on Earth Day in April, which they’re billing as “a call to support and safeguard the scientific community.”

In Seattle, the professors hope to do their part by dissecting case studies — or, as they call it, “bullshit in the wild” — to demonstrate how scientific data can be manipulated to mislead the public. Examples include a Fox News report on food stamp fraud; the professors promise to explain “how Fermi estimation can cut through bullshit like a hot knife through butter

It appears that Turkey is slowly but surely turning into a one man dictatorship.

10,000 supporters of Turkey’s president Erdogan gathered in the König-Pilsener-Arena in Oberhausen, Germany, on Saturday to attend a speech by Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim. Yildirim was campaigning for a “Yes” vote to Erdogan’s constitutional reform which is set to abolish the office of prime minister and strengthen Erdogan’s one-man rule. “Those who love their country say yes” was the slogan of Saturday’s event.

Three million Turkish citizens live in Germany. 60 percent of those who cast a vote in Turkish elections support Erdogan and his Islamist party. Campaign stops by Erdogan and other senior figures of the ruling AK Party in Germany have become a political tradition in recent years. In 2010, Erdogan held a rally in Cologne in which he called assimilation a “crime against humanity“

The ONT Musical Interlude

2003, 100 people died after pyrotechnics ignited a club during a gig by Great White in West Warwick, Rhode Island. Great White singer Ty Longley was also killed in the accident. Two brothers who owned the club were charged, along with the former tour manager with involuntary manslaughter. Foam soundproofing material at the edge of the stage set alight and the blaze spread quickly in the one-storey wooden building as fans all tried to escape through the same exit. While we are on the crime kick, why not take a look at crime photos from yesteryear.

Three children heard the following growing up, for every action there is an equal reaction. And their father wasn't even a scientist.

"This past Wednesday night, certain employees of BCI informed their leadership that they would not be at work the following day," the company said in a statement. "Because of the time-sensitive nature of the jobs these employees were assigned to, all employees were told that they would need to show up for work or they would be terminated. On Thursday, the majority of BCI's employees fulfilled their obligations to our clients, but eighteen employees did not. Regretfully, and consistent with its prior communication to all its employees, BCI had no choice but to terminate these individuals."

If you were fired, don't bitch about it. If you believe in something so deeply you should happily sacrifice your job for something you believe in. Just remember your employer is there to produce a product not to give you a job.

"The Roman Emperor"

Final point: "So was Jesus really a Roman? And if he's a Roman, how can he be a Palestinian refugee?"

I think it goes like this:

Black people are equal to whites

No, black people are superior to whites.

Black people are not only superior to whites, but have always been superior to whites.

No, not only are black people superior to whites, and have always been superior to whites, their culture has always been greater than whites.

Not only are black people superior to whites, and have always been superior to whites, and have always had a culture greater than whites, blacks gave the world every single thing of value since the beginning of time.

No, not only are black people superior to white, and have always been superior to whites, their culture has always been greater, they have been the source of every single thing of value in the world since the beginning of time, but any random black person, no matter what their circumstance, will always be greater and more accomplished than all of the whites in the history of time.

/that's how you do virtue signaling.

Amen.

I'll try not to get too "inside baseball" here...

I did a month-long research project to determine what songs we should be playing, and which we need to drop. What I discovered is our audience (classic hits format) wants more 80s and not as much 60s as we used to play. We're now equal parts 70s and 80s, with a little bit of both late 60s and early 90s (as in: one of each per hour max).

This is what they're objecting to...one thinks we shouldn't be playing 80s at all. But I have to give the audience what they want, not what we want. These guys are long time pros and they should understand that. At least, it seemed obvious to me.

What I have here is clashing egos and "too many chiefs" syndrome.

I hate HR people with the heat of a million supernovas. Young, female bits of fluff who graduated with a degree in sociology or psychology - something soft and useless - come over, robotically recite some canned lines and ruin people who really contributed something. I hate HR people with the heat of a million supernovas. Young, female bits of fluff who graduated with a degree in sociology or psychology - something soft and useless - come over, robotically recite some canned lines and ruin people who really contributed something. Seems we don't have to have an R&D group but we always have to have HR.

184 I did a month-long research project to determine what songs we should be playing, and which we need to drop.

242 AT ampersand T Stadium (home of the Dallas Cowboys) = 1.3 Billion

I bet the SCOAMF Library will never reach in it's entire existence the attendance that one Cowboys game produces.

Not even a preseason game ...against the Begals...with both 3rd teams playing...

278 Obama honored the late gay rights activist and statutory rapist Harvey Milk in 2009 with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which Milk's nephew Stuart Milk accepted at the White House.

"Harvey Milk's voice will forever echo in the hearts of all those who carry forward his timeless message," Obama said in his official White House citation.
********
Harvey Milk had sex with underage boys, as evidenced by his relationship with 16-year old Jack Galen McKinley, who ran away from home before meeting Milk and ended up killing himself.

"Sixteen-year-old McKinley was looking for some kind of father figure...At 33, Milk was launching a new life, though he could hardly have imagined the unlikely direction toward which his new lover would pull him," Randy Shilts reported in his Milk biography "The Mayor of Castro Street."

Having sex with a 16-year old is statutory rape. The age of consent in California is eighteen.

All from a 2015 Daily Caller piece. And don't forget, we now have the USNS Harvey Milk in our navy.

But Milo is the bad gay guy.

Scientists are not immune, and the fact that many scientists and the general public don't recognize this discredits Science more than any politician can.

377 So it seems IMDB has shuttered its message boards. (Yes, for all movies and TV shows). Its a minor thing, but I cannot help be feel that its just the latest move in a disturbing trend.

The internet gave everyone a voice and a printing press. It took some time for that to sink in, and for effective communication tools to be developed.

Now, it seems, there is serious push-back from those who believe that people generally shouldn't have their own printing press. Twitter shadowbans (and ghost deletions), Reddit censoring and patrol over trending topics, Facebook trying to determine what is "fake" news and what isn't. This is just the latest way to try to put the genie back in the bottle.

Those used to power over the written word will not stand for that power to be leveled across the playing field. The public square is open to everyone, so now there is an effort to close it off to those deemed (mostly by the left) as undesirable.

But genies, once released, do not return to their bottles. If forced out of the public square, there will be new public squares created. For example, if conservatives flee to Gab to avoid twitter censorship, and no-one else follows, the nation's communication become even more siloed.

Things are coming to a head, and it won't end well for anyone.

416 Bonnie and Clyde's shotup car was taken from town to town and placed in front of movie theaters as an attraction to gain customers.

They did the same (except it was malls) with the car Hitler commissioned Daimler to build for Eva. The car had two transmissions, two fuel tanks, could burn diesel or gasoline and could cruise [don't remember the number] fast.

420 So, this often becomes a guitar thread in the wee hours.
Any aficionados still hanging out?
Specifically, acoustic fans - I have a 30 yr old, like new Ibanez that I am going to sell (need the money & have no talent).
Where would i find a value?
Would and Moron want it? I'd much rather someone here could make her sing than turning her over to a pawn shop or something.

Posted by: Chi at February 21, 2017 12:21 AM (rUhXo)

Yeah I wouldn't pawn shop that sucker. I'm guessing that was made in japan if its 30 years old. That's when even their cheaper stuff was still pretty good. I have a mint blond Ibanez Concord from 1979. I got it new and barely touched it, because I don't really play acoustic. Its miles better than the china crap made today.

Definitely put that sucker in a players hands.

What model is it?

430 Here's the best tip I can give you for tailwaters (and really all nymphing):

Mono is not dense and it wants to float, typically.

So, you want to use Fluorocarbon Tippet for your terminal rig.
Also, the larger the diameter of your line, the more time and weight it will take to get it down, and keep it down.
Ditch your fully tapered leader. Go to a short leader and drop 3-5 (and longer) feet of tippet to your 'point' fly. Then, go one size lighter to your 'dropper' bug.
(Point Fly should be the heavier fly, as well)

Since you are fishing weighted, the presentation advantage from a tapered leader doesn't matter. The weight will do that work for you.

537 Funny story from my maternal grandfather's glory days - per Leatherneck and his citation for valor, Pa, in an M2 Scout car and with a small recon squad, fought his way out of an ambush, and then surrounded, and captured a Panzergrenadier platoon.

Real story? He was yelling at his driver, telling him to slow down as they came up on a hill on the gently curving road they were driving, having lost contact with the rear of the German column they were supposed to be following. Over the crest, and there they are, in an ambush - panzergrenadiers and those PkW things. Pa pops the hatch, and is told that he and his men are captured. Pa answers that he and his men are all that stands between the Americans (behind them) and the Red Army, behind the Germans. 'Come with us, or go to the Russians and see what happens.' Fritz talk among themselves, and then the officer unholsters his pistol, hands it to Pa, and surrenders himself and his men. There was a lot of that going on in the last days of the war.

552 570 pa fought the Japanese and the Germans, both. He preferred fighting the Germans - they were professionals, with a deep sense of obligation in the officer corps to their men. The Japanese, he said, were enthusiastic amateurs.

I actually met the officer - he was an oberst or something, I think - who surrendered. He ended up living on a farm not too far from where pa lived, and they were good friends. Growing up, I had no idea who he was, and, as he was German, just assumed he was some kin to my grandmother.

You learn a lot when people die. pa even returned his pistol to him when they met up again.

Thought came to mind that perhaps the exhaust pipe is plugged solid with mud dauber nests. That can happen. Or maybe the pipe got pinched closed when the vehicle was manhandled.

590 The 50-year-old man tried to pull apart a bullet with vise grips around 5 p.m. Tuesday, Durham Region police said.

The powder inside the bullet ignited, which caused an explosion and propelled the bullet into the man's thigh. The man told officers he was making a necklace and didn't realize the bullet could explode, police said.

SMFH, re Bradley vs T-72 there was a WWII parallel in the ETO. Two M-24 Chaffees doing recon stumbled into a Tiger. Luckily the M-24s could literally run circles around the Tiger as the German crew desperately tried to manually crank their turret around. The M-24s slammed so many main gun rounds into the Tiger they induced internal explosions while never penetrating the German tank's armor.

Anyway. Night all.

I use Kansas Broadband. They have a network of towers. Speed is better than dial-up, Hughes, or other satellite services. If I was 100 feet lower on our hill I'd be out of luck, because a good line of sight is critical.

Lunch consists of a cup of coffee from McD's, supposedly 0 cal.
If I maintain this regimen, eat very conservatively and stert exercising I'll be a shadow of my former self in a few months. I really need to go from 310 down to a realistic 150 or so. I really am tired of being fat and this damned 3rd shift job. Recently the management has gone straight to hell. I don't care to ride this one into the scene of the accident when the government pulls the contract because as sure as the sun rises in the East its coming. The woman they stuck in as the head of the org is a shining example of the Peter Principle, promoted 10 pay grades above her level of incompetence and showing it every day in her copy and paste emails threatening employees.

Anyways, ya'll have a great day, I'm out.
