Fucking embarrassing. They have a new strategy, by the way. Sometimes, as with the NYT Flynn transcripts story, they write a scarifying headline, but then, in the body of the piece, they admit there's no there there. But they rely on the headline to convey the opposite impression -- and they rely on the Blue Checkmark Mafia to retweet the shit out of headline only, with the implication our explicit claim that the article says what it simply does not say. The other thing they do, obviously, as the AP did here, is straight-up lie. But that's not a new tactic for this crew. Always read the article or the original documents. Getting freaked out? Is their viral hysteria infecting you? Put aside the false claims and primal yelps they're making on social media and go to the original article -- or, when they deign to supply it, the original document they're blatantly misrepresenting. You can insulate yourself from hysteria in that way -- don't buy into their second-hand telephone-game-of-hysterics method of reporting. Go the source, and walk way with an eased temper.I said a briefer version of this on Twitter to these people: Dear Media, We all watched you in tears on election night, on our TVs. The burp gun was actually pretty controllable. the weird thing was the top eject, so empty shells would rain from the sky. I think I fired just about every WWII submachine gun that mattered. the most controllable one surprisingly was the british sten MII, that sucker just didn't move, and the german mp40 was very close. The worst was the M2 carbine, it was totally uncontrollable, a real POS.

The Norfolk and Western, which I believe was the last class 1 railroad to fully dieselize, had a coal powered steam turbine engine called the Jawn Henry. Massive, but it was only a prototype. In the early 80's there was another coal powered engine called the ACE 3000 (heh) but it never was built.

That's a terrific ruling, because its not just the EPA but everything the executive department does, and it gives the GOP congress a chance to tighten things down a bit, for future presidents.

If you just stationed a few men to patrol ever half mile or so, that's a grand total of like 5-6,000 men at any given time?

I read a book about US army doctrine during the 1930's. Aside from some policing duties in the Philippines, the one operational responsibility the Army had at that time was patrolling the border with Mexico.

Doing it that way means either taking military units away from what they would be normally doing otherwise, or increasing the size of the military to accomodate the extra duties.
We already have a border guard. If we want to have a permanent extra presence of 5000 men, why not just increase the size of the border patrol?

Note, I spent a LOT of time on my Destroyer doing LEO (Law Enforcement Ops) off the coast of Mexico.
We would stop and search ships... but always carried a few Coast Guard types in case we actually had to arrest someone...
Whole thing was a legal slight of hand...

I don't know much about what the manpower requirements are for guarding our borders. But, to the extent they need to be increased, I would rather seen it done through the Border Patrol. I would rather not see either Army or National Guard units deployed at the border on a regular basis. Obviously, if there is some kind of emergency where an immediate increase in manpower is needed, no problem. Send the troops in. But, for anything long term, I think the Border Patrol is the way to go.

It's about 1,500 miles of border between San Diego, CA and Brownsville, TX. At 10 men per mile that 15,000 guys. If you give them all sorts of surveillance gadgetry, you could cut the number in half conceivably.

This is something I've been hearing people grumble about, and yet they seem vexed how, exactly, the President became so powerful. I'm surprised we don't hear more about it. Congress gave power to the various federal agencies to create laws, they had to call them regulations, but they're basically laws. People seem to have forgotten who, exactly, is head of every one of those agencies. Congress in effect gave the President power to legislate with just a pen.

How to do this was once explained to me by an Republican apportionship expert.
When you draw your state electoral map, create as many safe minority districts as possible. Since minorities tend to be younger, and tend not to vote, you need to make sure the safe districts have to be 70% minority - which packs minority Democrats (as well as nearby white Democrats) into a handful of districts. Doing that will usually accomplish about 50% of what an explicit gerrymander will do.
Anybody challenging your map, and proposing a map more even distribution of Democrats across districts, will have fewer safe minority districts. The courts will toss out the competing map for that reason alone.

By moving the military bases, you would not need more manpower...
It would be training.... ie instead of running a fake patrol at Ft. Hood Texas, against your own people... you use the Illegals to train against.
It would also flat out solve the problem for that area, because they WOULD NOT BE GETTING THROUGH, and so would stop trying.
And note, the Mexican Army IS on the other side of the border... we have had a number of Mexican Army incursions into the US, although the Media REALLY does not want to talk about them.
Add in, you are not going to smuggle drugs across a Military reservation???
OH, and by moving the Military to the border, the next President can't really come in and say 'hey, military, let the illegals through'... like he can to the Border Patrol (last Presidents catch and release) because they will have been trespassing on a Military Base.

That reminds me. Landed on CNN for a few minutes this morning. They were breathlessly reporting that yesterday on Take an Illegal to Work Day, ummm if you are an immigrant, quit your job day, the main foo foo restraurant at the Trump Hotel in DC was so understaffed that it served a limited menu.
And the other restaurant simply closed.

Someone tells Acting AG Sally Yates, who goes to the White House and says Flynn's been compromised and is subject to blackmail. Yates doesn't give the WH or Flynn the transcript.
Yates has the FBI interview Flynn. Flynn couldn't recall what exactly he said because he didn't think that whatever he said was a big deal when he said it.
So he says he didn't talk about sanctions, even though maybe he did in passing. So he tells Trump and others that he didn't.
Yates has Flynn caught in a lie because he did say something about sanctions. She sends the transcript to the WH, putting Trump in an awkward position.
Yates knows she's on her way out anyway, so she uses the EO as the basis to force Trump to fire her, insulating her from exposure because now she'll be a Leftie martyr.
Taking down Flynn had multiple objectives including to advance the meme that Trump is colluding with Putin.
But now Yates has made Daddy very, very angry.
