"Consistent," "Constitutionalist" Conservative Bill Kristol: I'd Rather Have the Non-Democratic Deep State Rule the Country Than the President Democratically Elected By the People

It's time for this loathsome toad to go away.

I like how he claims he "obviously prefer[s] democratic and constitutional politics," before adding the "but" that cancels that out entirely.

You have nothing to fear from your smugly incompetent Overclass, peons.

Understand von Mises, Hayek, and Milton Friedman. Central control by elites does not work because it cannot work. I was going to make a joke about Ace taking this out of context, but it's not really funny. There's just no context in which "I'd rather big government abuse its powers to overthrow the elected representatives" is funny.

The war with Russia they want won't be just 1000s of dead Americans.

The
low casualty toll of the WoT, which was falsely claimed to be high by
the Fake News Media, has led to people incorrectly calculate what a
normal war is like.

Korea and Vietnam were in the tens of thousands, and WWII was 400K.

A non-nuclear war with Russia would likely be somewhere in between those numbers. A nuclear war could get up to 100 million.

He only has to worry about alienating a portion of the readers of his magazine. So other than those in the Deep State who also happen to subscribe to the Weekly Standard, who among his readers would join him in supporting the Deep State over that which we get through "normal and constitutional" politics?

The landings would be tough.

Moving inland would be a nightmare.

Much like in 1941 it would either be take Moscow before the winter or see your brilliant offensive turn into a stalemate with massive attrition.

And were I China, that's when I would start making my moves - either seizing the Russia Far East (if conservative) or expanding into South East Asia (if playing a riskier game).

Iran might also decide to pay a visit to the Gulf States and the Norks to up their blackmail game.

Well, possibly true, but the real truth is that most of the "opposition" to Obama for the first year was peaceful Tea Party protests. The anger and resentment did not ratchet up until the first true ACT of opposition, committed by the liberal state of Massachusetts, sending Republican Scott Brown to put a stop to the Obamacare BS.

After that, the people actually elected Republicans to democratically put a stop to the Obama agenda. First the House, then the Senate, and along the way, 2/3 of the state governors and their legislatures as well.

And there's a KEY difference. Only a fool can make a rational case as to how the electorate did not send a clear message to Washington when they not only elected Trump in the face of near insurmountable, institutional advantages for Hillary, but also the House and Senate in Republican hands.

Sorry, there is no case to be made except sore loser bitterness for the Deep State undermining Trump. I know they don't like it. TOO.FUCKING.BAD. Win a fucking election.

The problem with that is, there is no proof, not one single person or Agency has presented anything remotely constituting proof. And that Joint Report on the alleged Russian hacking was one lame A$$ power point on how not to secure your server.

The CIA was pretty weak from its inception. The OSS did some interesting things, but I can only really remember one CIA success during the whole cold war - when they blew up the Soviets fast eastern oil pipelines under Reagan.

They were involved with some other successes, like Chile in 73, but that was really just supporting the plans of local anti-communists.

The KGB's record stands as a pretty serious indictment considering their level of success during the same time period.

401 @345 not the CIA did NOT put the Shah of Iran in power. That whole myth aggravates me because the truth is actually out there, you can look it up.

Reza Pahlavi ascended to the Peacock Throne at the hands of the British in WWII because his father was pro-Nazi and the Brits needed the oil.

The British. Before there was even a CIA.

Now, there is this thing with Kermit Roosevelt and all that. The Left wants you to believe the CIA overthrew a "democratically elected leader" and installed the Shah. Which is total bullshit. The Shah had been in power already, the CIA's troublemaking (in conjunction with the British) was because there was a prime minister elected who was about to nationalize the oil companies (none of which were American, they were British!) and invite the Soviets in. So the CIA stirred up something, and the result was the Shah got dethroned and actually had to leave the country!

It took a while for it all to come back together.

But the CIA didn't make Reza Pahlavi the Shah.

One night I wore heels because the dress I wanted to wear just didn't go with flats. He said, "You look nice in heels." It turned out that I was more sensitive about it than he was.

BTW, that's one thing I noticed in DC - there are zillions of short men there. I realized it one day on the Metro when I looked around my crowded car and realized I was as tall or taller than every man standing.

I asked a friend (a 5'0" one) if she had noticed it and she said, yes, this is a city of short men.

-No. They first turned against the Left because of its anti-anti-Communism (pro-Communism, really) but they soon became very strong critics of domestic leftism.

-They were NOT obscure writers at all. People like Norman Podhoretz and Irving Kristol were BIG TIME writers well established in left-wing NY circles. (This is why the Left loathed them back in the day.)

This is the thing. Irving K. and Norman P. were sailing along just fine in their lefty world until they saw that things had gone astray. They opened their eyes. They woke up. And as hard as it was, they had to follow the truth as best they could.

Their children, alas, are stuck in the past and their comfortable world. They WILL NOT open their eyes.

I would hope that would be true, but based on my experience with these types, just a few soil the batch. They aren't honorable foes. They are sneaky, backstabbing, vindictive shites who say yes, and pretend to grovel, all whilst plotting their revenge. The best thing for this country would be for them all to be relieved of duty, and decent, hard-working, America loving men and women to be put in their places.

But, that may be too much to hope for.

512 If I may speak frankly and perhaps insensitively for a moment about Bill, his father and their intellectual circle.

I think the core of the Neocons have an assimilation problem. Remember, this movement started from a small community of European Jewish intellectuals that relocated from Eastern Europe to New York City in the 20th century. They established their own magazines and talking shops where they waxed forth on political theory, art, literature and so on, mostly just among themselves. For a while they were Marxist, but eventually flipped to support market economics.

But what they carried back from the Old World was the lens through which they viewed society, reflecting their own particular history and circumstances, and having little to do with the USA. Hitler and the Czar and Stalin are simply not the most important figures in American history, but nevertheless will always loom the highest in the sociopolitical imagination of the Neocons and in whose garb they will often dress their opponents.

When they looked out from their NYC salons at the rest of America, it was an intellectual version of the old New Yorker cartoon of the view of America from Manhattan. Beyond the Hudson River they saw the film studios of Los Angeles and not much else. When they looked in the other direction, they saw afar off what they considered to be the intellectual riches of Paris, of 19th Century Germany, etc.

The fact that we Americans somehow managed to found a new nation by defeating the most powerful empire in the world, to settle a moving frontier and establish advanced civilization across an entire continent, to fight a civil war and end American slavery, to lead the worldwide industrial revolution, to build countless cities and railroads and highways, to invent most of the technological wonders of the modern world, to create an agricultural cornucopia on our continent that can feed much of the world, and on and on, all without the help of their superior intellect, seems to escape their notice. Gosh, how did we ever do it?

When someone can nonchalantly and unselfconsciously toss out a comment in a public forum that it might be best if the American white working class were simply replaced by people brought in from other countries, and who believes that non-democratic rule by a cadre of elite globalists would be preferable to having a president whose main agenda is to revive industrial jobs for Americans and keep Americans safe from illegal immigration and terrorism, then I suggest we have someone who is only weakly assimilated to our country.

518 480 Every one of those guys, have either tied themselves to the label, or have had the label tied to them, and they have either been identified, or have identified themselves, as leaders of the right, including conservatives.

The point, in my weak mind, is who are we associating ourselves with, and why? The process has started, but it might be a worthwhile endeavor to figure out what it is exactly that we believe in and are there politicians out there who (actually) share our beliefs.

Posted by: Mr Macca Bean at February 14, 2017 04:19 PM (Gh3fw)

=====================

Here's the thing about political coalitions: They end up containing a wide variety of people who believe different things all claiming the same label.

If we're going to get a party that's as Conservative as we want, then it'll take literally decades of work to topple the big government Republicans from every tier of the party. The Tea Party's efforts to do that have already born significant fruit, but as we all know, we still have a long way to go.

You want to knock those people outside of the Conservative Label? Then you have to make sure that they are actually so far off from the center of that label that no one would take the label seriously.

We may sit back and say, "Neo-cons are really conservative", but there are very large swaths of the Republican Party that say they are. We need to alter those numbers so that the Party leaves them, and they don't leave the Party.

The front lines of that fight is really at the state and local level. As long as there are governors and state legislatures that would agree with Bill Kristol and continue to support Lindsey Graham, then the next generation of Republicans is sure to come out just like them.

We're most likely not going to change Lindsey Graham's mind. We're also most likely not going to knock him out of the Senate (as much as I would like). A more productive use of our time and treasure would be to make sure that the person who takes that seat from Graham when he retires is chosen from a source of Conservative Republicans more like Ted Cruz than Graham.

You want to fight a real fight? Fight state Republican Party's that are Republican in Name Only. It will take literally years to bear the fruit at the federal level, but it will bear fruit, and it'll pay more dividends than another abortive primary campaign against John McCain.

I dream of a Super PAC, started by the Horde, that's designed to knock off centrist Republicans in state districts that are generally much more conservative than their representatives. The sort of district where Republicans automatically win no matter what and the representative has gotten really soft. But, it's at the state level so almost know one knows who their representatives are, much less than the normal rate for a U.S. seat.

We pick a state per cycle, throw in a few million dollars, and take out about 10% of the Republican office holders, replacing them with much more conservative options. We then move to another state, trying to make our presence as unknown as possible as late into the game as possible so it's always a surprise.

573 >>It's worse than that, According to Huma Abedin's testimony Hillary did not know how to operate the fax machine.

Don't forget Hillary's maid was an immigrant, who could have loyalties to her home country, or at minimum, could have been easily exploited to get copies of Hillary's classified docs.

Maybe she was just a helpful employee who did as she was told, but putting a foreign maid in charge of printing docs is *inviting* espionage.

574 The talking bobble head pundits are agitated that their power (real or imagined) in their columns are basically used in birdcages. When power, real or imagined by their bubble-heads, is snatched away, their reaction is like taking a bottle from a baby: waaaaaaa...holds breath....waaaaaa.

They join forces with other GOPes, grasping for similar power, as it slips through their fingers and they plunge into the swamp, kicking and screaming from the swamp creatures, the snakes, the gators, the swamp gas enveloping them. It is similar to hell but without the eternal lake of fire. It will be a hell on earth as they lose power, the power to control Congress and the POTUS due to the puppet strings of lobbies and special interest groups...and, yes, even foreign governments.

Keeping in mind that, as Sec of State, one speech Bill gave to Algeria, with money pocketed to the late great Foundation, took Algeria off the terrorist list of countries. One speech, my flying monkeys.

I expect some swamp gas explosions this week from the ouster of General Flynn, who had his own sort of issues, but I do not believe he was of the swamp gas fraternity.

Kristol is, otherwise he would go quieter into the night. He is involved, deeply, with something or someone he does not want revealed. Bank on it...my gut feeling, anyway. You do not react this way due to a politician. He is scared, peeps. Of what we do not know (yet). It is more than neverTrump dementia.

The yuuuuge problem with your argument is that it is the SECOND, not the first, generation of neo-conservatives that comprise an establishment alienated from the experience of normal Americans.

Irving Kristol had a fully sympathetic view of the middle-class, of the workers and farmers that the Left was spitting on as "hardhats" and "rednecks." Bill Kristol? Not so much.

580 Just another elitist. I have no use for them (actually that is passive opposition and I'm leaning toward active now). I don't differentiate between the leftist ones or the righties, communists or fascists. The anarchists are just amusing.

581 18-1 @363:

"One thing I will give the communists, they wanted to rule the world, not a nuclear wasteland full of mutants and Lena Dunhams."

Don't give them too much credit. Did you ever see their war plan from the late 50s? The post-communist Czechs declassified them. Basically it was to nuke the everloving shit out of everything of significance in western Europe at the outset, then roll between the craters in sealed tanks. Nine days to the English Channel, was the plan. Guess they didn't want us fighting our desperate holding action and bringing in reserves and materiel.

Heck, that's even true *within* some states. I swear that if the Beverly Hills or Bel Air neo-con crowd just drove over "the Grapevine" and spent a week moteling in say, Bakersfield, it would open their eyes a bit.

583 I got to the hospital today, Vic's nasal tube had been taken out. They also took out his catheter and removed the heart monitor today! He actually got to have one of his two daily bottles of concentrated juice.

I left early and went to the Moon Pie General Store. Since it was right there, I also went through the open air market. They have so many pretty things. Too bad I don't have unlimited funds!

I was able to get back to the room much earlier than usual, so I'll have a laid back evening.

But the point you are raising is not uncommon in contemporary immigrant communities. Often the first generation has more of an affection for the new country. We see this with Hispanic immigrant communities where the crime rate is higher with the second generation and they are more open to La Raza radicalization. We see it with Muslims, take Major Hassan as just one example.

But I think there is a different dynamic going on here with Kristol et al, I don't think it's a first generation - second generation thing at work here.

586 "But I think there is a different dynamic going on here with Kristol et al, I don't think it's a first generation - second generation thing at work here."

We now have urban politics writ large. Most Jews aren't good at it. e.g. they want to be liked by blacks, who mostly hate them. e.g. Bernie Sanders

Ed Koch was a notable exception.

589 506 The Deep State, or Shadow Government, seems to me to be a logical outgrowth of government unions.

It has been said that "self interest is the most powerful force in the universe." Government union employees can't be fired, even if they cause the deaths of... people.

That pretty much sums up self interest run amok, I'd say.

Yeah, but the actual bureaucracy isn't in govt unions. GS-14, 15 SES or even professional GS11 and up aren't in govt unions unless they're blue collar.

it?

It worked for them because conservative saps like you worked to hold everything together while they tried to rip it down. If you haven't noticed they're more than willing to bring down the temple if they down get their way. They will not do you the service you did them. There will be no conservative "long march".
