Parliament Votes Theresa May the Power to Actually Execute #Brexit

Globalists and leftists attempted to limit her by adding lots of amendments whose requirements must be met before any #Brexit could actually happen -- essentially making #Brexit an impossibility -- but they were all just voted down and now PM May has a clean authority to actually take the UK out of the EU.

Nine proposals in all, ranging from the rights of EU migrants to the opinions of the Gibraltar Government, were put to the vote, and one by one all nine proposals were thrown out by MPs.

It was a flawless night for Theresa May, as the EU (Notification of Withdrawal) Bill was passed by 494 votes to 122 in its original, unamended form.

Eurosceptic MPs could barely contain their excitement, with one minister saying as he went to vote: "I am about to have the best moment of my life since my wedding night."

In fairness to wedding nights, his wife was English.

At lexit -- Brexit.

Maybe.

New thread? Well here's a carryover question:

In the USA: If the Commiecrats go full anti-white-retard, could a 3rd party emerge, a la Ross Perot's Reform Party, of disaffected union bosses and their followers? Especially if the GOPee thwarts Trump's attempts at working class appeals? (e.g., more protectionism, Immigration Control, less globalism)

Or has Trump co-opted these people reasonably well?

How this connects to the UK: I am thinking of the UK under Thatcher, when the Labour Party went so far Left as to be Communist, and the disgusted moderate Labourites went to the Liberal party, renamed the Social Democrat Liberal Alliance Party.

Then again, the UK has a parliamentary system, so 3rd parties can emerge there and last, unlike the USA presidential-congressional system, which pretty much enforces two parties.

Understood. The "first past the post" electoral system pretty much guarantees two *major* parties.

However, the Parliamentary systems of the UK, Canada, AUS, NZ, etc., seem to allow minor 3rd parties to survive and endure.

This is quite unlike the US Presidential-Congressional system, where 3rd parties are almost immediately co-opted and absorbed by one of the two major parties in the next election.

That is for the American government to do. Whether the EU exists or not registers a big ZERO on my meter. What does irk me is that our government doesn't make it clear to the EU that they can't fuck around with American companies and what they do in America. If the EU wants to start laying heavy tariffs and taxes on American companies and products, then fine, return the favor seven-fold. But I don't need the EU to disappear in order to save American business from such outside meddling. If we let the EU get away with this shit then there will just be others who try to pull the same shit after the EU is gone.

To me, the Eurotrash can all stay in the EU and do Eurotrash sorts of things. It makes no difference to me. But they have to keep their noses out of our business and it is our government's job to protect our liberties and rights to commerce against such dipshits. After all, it has been America that has protected the ocean lanes for all. The EU just needs to be reminded of this, not handled with kid gloves.

Which the U.K. generally has had through it's history. Most of their 3rd parties are regional in fact (various N. Ireland parties, Plaid Cymru, SNP) or in appeal (Lib Dems, though they serve as an outlet for Labour dissenters).

I would disagree. The American character was not like the British. The colonists were never looked upon as if they were British, and even though many colonists loved Britain, life in the colonies was thoroughly different. My view is that it was the open and wild nature of this land that shaped the particular American character - and it was very particular, even pre-Revolution.

The notions of individual rights and worth came down more from Judeo-Christian philosophy than anything else. The revolutionary idea of Judaism that Man is made in G-d's image - each man being a likeness of G-d - is what imbues inherent worth and value in the individual. Add to the the pioneering life in the colonies ... and you have America and the American character.

I'm not saying that the British influence wasn't great - clearly it was as only the ex-British colonies were ever really successful, with the ex-Spanish and other colonies generally turning immediately into shitholes with independence - but we were not a mini-Britain in any way. We were far different from the Brits in our character.

This can be stopped at any time. Congress has the power - and the responsibility - to remove bad judges. If Congress would ever do its job in this respect the judiciary would never have gotten so insanely out of control. Congress is bound to defend the Constitution as much as any of the other branches and it is given Constitutional power to rein in insane and anti-Constitutional judges via impeachment and removal.

182 Years ago when English broke 1,000,000 words I think the news report said there were only something like 100,000 French words.

The french make do with a lot of expressions, hand gestures, and tones. No seriously, John Calvin had to invent words to write the Institutes, because the language couldn't encompass what he was saying.

I'm not a reader but I'll try to take a look at it.

Even so, the reactions and consequences of both were totally different. What we did here was unique. Unique in world history. And even to this day pretty much no other nation has bothered to copy it - save the Phillipines. And this is in the context of nations remaking themselves over and over (France being in its 5th republic, for instance) and the creation of so many new states in the wakes of the various wars and at other times. Yet, with all these new states popping up and old ones renovating their governance, pretty much none has adopted the US system. Most have taken on one of the silly European party-oriented parliamentary systems (which are all dog shit). Odd, really.

298 rickl, Levin was griping about some proposed environmental council instead of a capitalism council, then hating cabinet picks for treasury and something else as crony capitalists, and slamming Ivanka and her husband as hard core leftists who had undue influence on policy. And he hates TIllerson because the environmental council was based on some initiative from ExxonMobil. And this was all in the course of about 90 seconds.

310 The Napoleanic Wars are fascinating - the first truly World War - if you have not read Robert Harvey's "War of Wars - The Epic Struggle between Britain and France" yet, do so immediately!!!! Fantastic read (big book - but do not be daunted by its size - truly a great read). His biography of Simon Bolivar is also fantastic and authoritative.

I would consider the Seven Years War (1754-1763) to be the first global war. There were previous wars between Britain & France that had minor colonial campaigns, but in this war the colonial theaters were major factors in the war - the war having begin in Pennsylvania, in fact.

337 I think Edmund Burke had a pretty big influence on American formation as well, but he was later. Locke definitely influenced Jefferson at the very least.

Believe it or not, Jefferson once made a list of the top three thinkers in different categories. John Locke made the top three...in epistomology. The top three political theorists Jefferson listed were Montesquieu, Sidney, and someone-I-can't-recall-but-not-Locke, if my memory serves me right.

As a matter of fact, apart from the near-quotation of Locke in the Declaration of Independence, you would be hard pressed to prove that Jefferson ever even read Locke's 2nd Treatise on Government, though that seems hard to believe. He apparently never owned a copy, unless it was bound up with some other writings!

But the establishment behemoth that has to be slain has tentacles everywhere. There will have to be some kind of reaching across the aisle, especially since Dems will be more helpful on America First Trade than the Chamber of Commerce open borders brigade.

When I get too worried, I just think how Hilda would have been the end of US. But we're only in week three. A RBG or Kennedy retirement, Sessions pushing some buttons, lots of moving parts still getting into gear. But constant reminders to Trump are still in order.

350 Now the trade deal can be negotiated in earnest on an individual basis. It will be a real sweetheart of a deal for the UK, because next up will be Netherlands, Italy, and even France.

Trump could end up being the wedge that took down the entire European Union. If you want a reference of the way he works, take a look at the Pacific Rim deal he axed. Currently, negotiations are taking place with each individual nation that was part of that agreement. In essence, they are currently competing with each other to be able to sell wares in the US. He'll do the same to the EU countries teetering towards a populist movement away from the EU.
