Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Letter To The PresidentI have just done something I have never done before. I have written a letter to the president. Not even in the days of 9/11 have I felt so moved to do this. It's just that with every day there's a new yelly, shouty, Soros-funded attack that I'm afraid President Trump will be tempted to cave in. I think he needs to be encouraged not to do this. As Rush points out, he really doesn't have any support, not from the opposition party, not from the media, not from academia, not even from elements in his own party, nobody except from those of us who voted for him, and perhaps those of you who did not vote for him, but do not want to see him destroyed by a howling mob of imbeciles. So I encourage all of you to go to this link, bring up the e-mail form, and write an encouraging note to the president. Here is what I told him: Mr. President-- Ever since your inauguration, there has been nothing but hysterical, dialed-up-to-11 outrage coming at you from the Democrats, the media, and even elements in the Republican Party. George Soros is undoubtedly bankrolling some of this ginned up outrage. Even so, I have never seen anything like this before in my life. I love it that you are apparently that big a threat to the status quo. And the last thing America needs right now is a go-along-to-get-along status quo politician. Mr. President, please stay the course. Please do not go wobbly on us. It's probably going to get worse before it gets better, but I think you know this. Please, please PLEASE do not back down from any of your proposals or nominations. If you do, your enemies will only smell blood in the water and come at you even harder. Plus, you'll only discourage those of us who want to support you. This is no "well, we disagree on policy" dispute. They want to destroy your presidency and they want to destroy you personally. If you did not know this when you started your campaign, you probably know it now. Mr. President, I know you're a fighter. I voted for you because I could see you were a fighter. But now you're in the fight of your life. The attacks are coming at you fresh and new every day. Please do not allow yourself to think that if you give in to their demands, you will avoid conflict. This is a lie, and I'm sure you know this. Illegitimi non carborundum, Mr. President. Do not let the bastards grind you down. My wife and I pray for daily. May God give you strength and may God grant you victory. Because if you win, America wins. If you lose, we all lose. Thank youComments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

I'm a little disappointed." OM often has better ledes. Trump is losing in short-term polling but I expect this to rebound as D obstruction fails. e.g., Within a week the travel ban EO will be upheld by courts. FFS, the NYT writes today that Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel signed off on its legality but Yates overruled because she didn't like Trump's motives in issuing it. Trump may be playing a long game if he can get the Saudis on board with a ME sanctuary land plan for the refugees. Posted by: Ignoramus at January 31, 2017 11:57 AM (SIY7D) 20
I think my biggest fear regarding Trump is people will get so tired of the constant outrage and screaming, they will dump Trump just to get some peace and quiet.
People usually react one of two ways, they either double down and dig their heels in or fold because it's easier. The Left has shot their wad so early, that I'm somewhat optimistic they have nowhere left to go. On the way to work I was listening to NPR, it was almost like the day after 9/11 with it's reporting and tone. Posted by: Maritime at January 31, 2017 11:57 AM (lzxL6) 21

A related suggestion, but opposite, from the earlier thread.
If you are sick of all the local news coverage of these protests, call/ email your local tv station and complain. Tell them they do not represent you or your family, and their focus on these idiots has caused you to turn off their station, and you will not watch them until they become unbiased. Conversely, if you really want to harm them, note the advertisers on your local news. Then write them and say that you feel your local news is encouraging these protestors and are too political. Since they advertise on the station, they are encouraging that. Consequently, you will no longer buy their products or patronize their business until they stop advertising with that station. I agree with Rush in that Trump is not a political animal and he appears to be fiercely loyal to those who have been his biggest advocates during the election, namely the Angel Moms. 20 I think my biggest fear regarding Trump is people will get so tired of the constant outrage and screaming, they will dump Trump just to get some peace and quiet.
Posted by: Maritime at January 31, 2017 11:57 AM (lzxL6) I think you're right, and I think that result comes down to how easy it is to spin the tone of your message as being positive. Bush had a pretty hard sell. Right after 9/11, most of the country agreed that we needed to go over there and hit them before they hit us again. But by 2004 and 2006, the immediate shock of 9/11 was gone. Staying in Iraq and nationbuilding was the right thing to do (both morally and strategically), but it's a hard sell. To do it right will cost billions of dollars and many american lives (which the MSM reminded us about daily). The base of their message was "it's just not worth it" they could take the easy path. And because it was the easy one, the people without strong convictions followed. It's different now. Trump=Hitler is the entirety of their argument. They're offering no appeal to Trump's supporters or people on the fringe. A lot of people think "well, maybe it is a good idea to pause refugee program, when there are clearly a lot of bad people over there that I don't think I want in my neighborhood." I think the default position of most people is to support Trump in a lot of these things. So when the left comes in and says "you're literally a Nazi for feeling this way" then they're much more likely to get someone to stiffen up and say "well that's bullshit" than to get them to buckle. The left has to make the nuanced, difficult, case. Not Trump. And they're not capable of doing that because of their irrational outrage. NPR is interesting to listen to. Obviously they are biased but they will "fact check" the left occasionally to project an image of balance. (This morning it was of a muzzie Congressman from Indianapolis.) Ah yes, Andre Carson. Inherited his Congressional seat when his grandma died. On March 20, 2010, Carson told reporters that health care protesters outside the Capitol hurled racial slurs at fellow Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) member Rep. John Lewis, a Democrat from Georgia. Carson came off the House floor and told reporters his story about health care protesters hurling racial slurs during their walk from the Cannon House Office Building to the chambers. Conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart offered a $100,000 reward for any proof of these accusations. Although audio and video recordings of the protest have been posted online, no proof of the racial slurs has yet been provided, and the reward remains unclaimed. On August 28, 2011, Carson told a gathering of supporters when referring to the Tea Party movement "This is the effort that we're seeing of Jim Crow", Carson said. "Some of these folks in Congress right now would love to see us as second-class citizens. Some of them in Congress right now of this Tea Party movement would love to see you and me... hanging on a tree." Carson declined calls to resign, reaffirming, "I stand on the truth of what I spoke", and clarified that his comments were directed at certain tea party leaders and not the tea party as a whole. 38 A related suggestion, but opposite, from the earlier thread.
Posted by: shibumi, who requires a cute kitty story stat! at January 31, 2017 12:01 PM (J5mC3) ================ This-writing the advertisers on local stations-is an excellent idea. Our local stations in Michigan are very slanted-especially the NBC station, and even though I don't watch them for that reason, their sponsors should know. As for the letter to President Trump, I did that yesterday! I felt compelled to do it. He is strong and a fighter, but even strong fighters might need to know they are appreciated. Concerning the "bad roll out" ( which is how I have heard it described) of the immigration policy, I personally do not see President Trump as a person who does not learn from his mistakes. He is learning constantly and improving constantly and , I hope, will continue doing so. Another thing we can do, though, is figuring out how to do better at primaring the treacherous RINOs. I've worked in an executive role. If nothing else it trains you to dismiss criticisms, if they don't represent truly informed opinions or are inconsistent with your view of human nature. That often comes off as arrogant to the critics who doesn't have all the information you do. But they don't realize that you're doing things that you've already done, and you know how they will work out. To them it all looks like just another experiment, like so many of their which have failed in the past.
In my last position we worked on a turnaround company. It was sort of like a startup, but with decent funding, and 900 employees. Every step we took we were told that it wouldn't achieve the desired outcome. But we went ahead anyway, knowing we were right, and booked success after success after success. In the meantime we did our best to educate those who were open to new ideas but simply ignored (or removed) those who made it clear that they weren't. Trump doesn't care about press approval. He knows the press argue that he should take a position of weakness. And that's somehting he can never abide. He has decades of experience in the solitude of leadership. And it shows. So I'd bet that he's less likely to go soft than any other President in living memory. I confess I didn't think he would be this good. But I'm thrilled to admit I was wrong. Outside of social media and MFM, how many people do you know who are PERSONALLY impacted by these protests?
I don't know anyone they are persuading to think their way, but it is solidifying opposition in the left where they might start getting squishy or thinking differently. It also is annoying apolitical people very strongly. They're sick of the crap, furious at roads being blocked, disgusted by the behavior of marches, getting off social media because they're tired of the crap, etc. So there's not much net positive going on for the left. A question for the Elders of the Horde:
Was it like this in the late 60's? No.... Bad but not even close... I have never seen anything like this... Posted by: deplorable donna --------- I think the distinction is that the true Liberals among the Dems were disgusted by the clearly organized agitations by the Left during that time. Whatever the shortcomings of people like Hubert Humphrey were, they were unapologetically Americans. What has happened is that the radicals of the 60's have engaged in the long march through the institutions, and especially the academic institutions, thereby infesting every corner of the system. "We were a lot more divided from 1968 to 1974."
I was a very young NY Daily News paperboy from 1968 to 1972 and I have a pretty good memory. (The News was the conservative NYC rag back then, the Post was an afternoon commie rag run by Dorothy Schiff until Murdoch bought it in 1976). I saw the division reflected in the stories every day. A lot of it was driven by Vietnam, which was actually a big deal at the time. It forced people to join tribes and to wear their colors openly. You think the election of 2016 was divisive. Try 1968. When writing to Congress-critters, or the Prez, for that matter, handwrite the letter. Handwritten letters are treated differently than printed letters, and much differently than emails.
Block print if you have to, or scrawl out the best you can in your unpracticed cursive. If it takes a few extra minutes and effort, well, the people on the other end know that too. It is highly likely to receive attention that the other formats will not. Posted by: Mike Hammer, etc., etc. at January 31, 2017 12:35 PM (ZO497) 286

My concern is that if the left keeps this up loud and long enough it will work like the Iraq War protests did: eventually people start going "well maybe they have a point, why would they be so upset over nothing? Look at how many people are out there yelling, it must mean something!"
And we get where we are today where even people here are all "ooh it was the wrong thing to do, Iraq was harmless, we should have stayed home, Bush sucks!!!" That's the end goal: they eventually got to President Bush even at wartime. The American people aren't very well informed and are easily swayed.
Posted by: shibumi, who requires a cute kitty story stat! at January 31, 2017 12:01 PM (J5mC3) I kinda want to do this, but with the local refugee reports the SLC news has on every night. A question for the Elders of the Horde: Was it like this in the late 60's? How did the normal people survive? I *suspect* that it was worse then. However, there was not 24/7 media coverage of every moment back then. That makes the difference. Which is why I suggest... complain about this to your local news stations and their advertisers. I wish to point out that I might be elderly, but I am not an Elder of the Horde. Becoming an Elder of the Horde involves a sacred and private ceremony involving Ace, the cobs, and Empress Alex the Chick. It also involves the use of Value Rite vodka and hobo pelts.
All the left has to do is keep up the momentum long enough. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at January 31, 2017 12:36 PM (39g3+) I posted something similar upthread, but I don't think this is going to happen. The circumstances are different. The left didn't start with BusHitller in 2001. They ramped up to it. And even then, that wasn't the crux of their argument. In 2004-2006, they had a very easy case. "The war just isn't worth it." And they backed that case up with a constant stream of stories about the soldiers that died in Iraq and stories about how bad the economy was going and the deficit. Bush had to make a difficult case for himself. He had to explain that it was worth it, and yes, these things are bad, but we need to stick it out because the alternative would be worse, and in the end it'll be better. He didn't make that case very well, and by 2008, enough people fell into the "it's not worth it" camp. This time, Trump is the one that gets to make the easy case. "I want to stop people from getting into the country that want to harm you." That's what people on the margins hear when they just hear about his EO. And the gut reaction that a lot of people have is "good." The left has to make a much more nuanced argument this time. That his action does not help his stated goal. But they're not doing that. They're going straight for the character assassination. Anyone who supports this is a Nazi. When you pressure people with such an extreme version of the argument like that, you don't persuade them to change their views. You get them to dig their heels in. The circumstances are different. The left didn't start with BusHitller in 2001
*** Yes, the first Bush years were odd for the Dems. They opened up complaining that he wasn't doing anything about the Taliban because he didn't care about women. Then 9/11 happened and we invaded Afghanistan. Feminists were confused for a bit and disappeared...later they would argue he deposed the Taliban...because he didn't care about women. In 2002 the Dems ran on a platform of war with Iraq and that unlike that wuss Bush they would win the WoT. They believed at the time that Americans agreed with them on domestic policy and adopting a pro-war stance would allow them to win the off year elections. They were wrong...and confused again. They spend 2002-4 going back and forth between arguing that Bush was incompetently fighting the Iraq war, which they could win, and that we should cut an run. And they were shocked when they lost again in 2004. It wasn't really until after that election that they 100% jumped on the no war for oil bandwagon. Perhaps more importantly, in 2004 Bush put pressure on the Saudis for internal reform and the Saudis started bankrolling the Dems and the "anti-war" effort. Willowed in the last thread. Reply to Naturalfake -
@58 OT: I've been watching a fair amount of Japanese anime recently and have noticed that- there is a deep streak of melancholy running through many (most?) of them. When Japan chose the Keynesian/leftard economic solution to enrich the elites, they chose to kill their nation by slow strangulation through robbing the young. Now, they're trapped and i think this shows up culturally. Very sad. --------------------- There's a particularly unusual anime (yes, I know, I repeat myself) that aired a few years ago called 'C'. It features a more or less normal modern world. The weirdness is that the main characters are all part of a group who duel each other using familiars with attacks named after economic terms. Reason I bring it up is because the antagonist (who means well) tries to help Japan by repeatedly causing massive inflation of the quantity of Yen in circulation. The results are predictable. Here is my letter:
Dear Mr. President, I am writing you to offer what words I can to encourage your great endeavor to make America great again. It is no great feat to announce lofty aspirations, I do it myself from time to time. But to stick to that aspiration and stay true to the great work you have set out for yourself is something many of our country have not seen from a politician in our lifetime. Win or lose you have given this country something that many thought may have been lost forever: a fighter. Continue the fight Mr. President. Take back our country, whatever the cost. Fight for our country at the podium, in the hallowed halls and in the press. Fight for our country and never surrender. If you fail, we all fail. Mistakes happen and there will be setbacks but the American people did not elect you to be perfect. We elected you to fight. So fight Mr. President and may god lead you to victory. Know that in this fight you have my support and my prayers. Godspeed, Posted by: Churchill's ghost at January 31, 2017 12:58 PM (H3WNZ) 448

455 The best part of The Oscars is when some b-lister finally gets the attention they (feel) so richly deserved. Then they take up their entire speech ragging some SJW crap (insert anything Trump here for this years.) Before their rant is quite over, the orchestra swells in the background, and they are left mic-less, pumping their golden idol in the air. 150 million people just said: "Well."

You seem to be unhappy with this. What would be your solution? You're forgetting that it the left who abandoned normal political discourse and instead made it their goal to personally destroy President Trump. Those are the RoE of the present conflict. We didn't choose them, but it would be foolish to pretend they're not in effect. As Andrew Breitbart said, "F*ck you. War." Posted by: OregonMuse, deplorable since 2004 at January 31, 2017 12:58 PM (/9ppM) There are certainly many Republican elected officials who are beyond redemption. I am wondering however, we have many many regulars here, who, let's be honest, don't want to give up on the "status quo." They LIKE the way Republicans operate, and like the benefits they derive from business as usual. If this WAS a usual Republican Administration, I would imagine some of them would be jostling for their goodies, and essentially Trump isn't giving them any. So... the question is, how long? How long do we wait for Establishment Republicans who are otherwise just ordinary citizens, to get on board? I'm sure some would say their time is already past. I don't know. I really don't. Dear Mr. President,
I am writing you to offer what words I can to encourage your great endeavor to make America great again. Godspeed, Posted by: Churchill's ghost at January 31, 2017 12:58 PM (H3WNZ) --------------- I told him that I would stand by his side, if asked, and fight with him. No man can fight this alone. the poliical hat, I do not disagree people have issues with the rpublican party, but isn't it deserved? we had begged for years forthem to stop the left moves to take over our very existance. and to hold fisacl accountability as a necessary fight for the countries sake.what did we actually get for the last decade? they totally said give us more power and we will Roll this takeover back, yet actually did little while we were demanded to pay forthis and that..
i pareciated the character of many of those who rana gainst Trump on our side but they did not win. Trump did and now we are fighting for the countries future. Thisis the tool we have. i Hope you understand this isn't about i don't like this guy or that guy , it's about fighting becasue the left already ran roughshod over the non stalwart weeenies on our side. in other words, don't take it personally you are a wise man appreciated but this for many of us is a fight for our childrens very existance. The opportunity here is for Trump to reach across the aisle and meet the Democrats halfway on most issues. If it is humble enough, Senators McCain and Graham also may express approval. It doesn't mean, necessarily, that he has to agree Melania should be raped to death by Muslim refugees, but it does have to demean himself proudly in the same way President Bush did every day! If he just makes these tweaks, his nominees could get at least an unfair hearing.

I also emailed my senator, Rob Portman, and ripped him a new one because he was talking about how this immigration EO was unconstitutional and he was against it. All that matters, it would seem, it that the designated hero (i.e. Trump) smashes the designated villain (i.e. the "status quo", i.e. those who do not embrace the champion).
No one is taking issue with those who don't wish to embrace the champion. We do object to those who will not even offer the minimum cooperation to a man who delivered a landslide victory when the "status quo" mouthpieces were already scheduling their HRC inaugural events. My letter so far:
Dear President Trump, In the interest of full disclosure, you were not my first choice to be the 45th President of the United States. Nor were you second, third or fourth. To be blunt, I believed your candidacy to be a gimmick. Like many, I underestimated you, and I humbly apologize. I did end up voting for you, not because I knew what kind of President you would be, but because I knew what kind of President Hillary Clinton would be. And after eight years of President Obama, I did not believe our nation could weather all that a Hillary Clinton administration would bring. Your first week-and-a-half in office has been nothing short of masterful. I believe you to be a good man, thick-skinned and surrounded by other good men and good women. Dark forces have aligned themselves against you, and I pray that despite the hatred and vitriol being hurled in your direction, that you stand firm. There is no doubt in my mind that you love these United States, and will do what is right and true to defend and enrich them. It is said to be lonely at the top. Mr. President, you are not alone. Millions of us supported you on November 8th, and still do. As your quest to Make America Great Again proceeds and bears fruit, millions more will rally to your banner. ...all I have for now. Needs some tinkering, but it is a very cathartic undertaking because as I'm reassuring him, I'm reassuring myself. Posted by: Stu Podaso at January 31, 2017 01:37 PM (bZXxP) 499
>>> ...We do object to those who will not even offer the minimum cooperation to a man who delivered a landslide victory...
..... Obama won in 2012 in a landslide and carried both houses of Congress in with him. I was not willing to offer him or any of his minions even a minimal level of cooperation. Nor did they have any interest in my cooperation or even the most minimal negotiation or hearing of an alternate opinion. "I won", "Elections have consequences", etc. I was not a Trump supporter but, damn it, the weasel wearing bastard is earning quite a bit of respect from me. I still don't agree with a lot of shit he says but, damn, credit where it's due. He's willing to fight, willing to take a lot of shit for doing what he thinks is right, and doesn't try to decide what to eat for breakfast by a series of committees. I respect he hell out of that. My letter:
The most important thing I can say is I support you and what you are trying to do. I have your back to the extent I am able. The left that is opposing you at every turn has an unbroken record of failure since 1871 and the Paris Commune. I support your efforts to return to an America of individual rights, limited government and regulations, and especially where we can be left alone to be creative, self-governed citizens. Under the Left (and the GOPe and CoC), I would be a thrall and a heretic, because I do not believe in their God that fails, the State. Good luck.
