Vieja Friendo Huevos (Old Woman Frying Eggs)
Diego Rodríguez de Silva y Velázquez

First time I have thought of food in two days....

I had completely forgotten about Velázquez, but luckily commenter and singer Rondinella Momma jogged my memory (yeah...that's some voice!).

And RondinellaMamma does have a lovely voice - she was our choice to sing the National Anthem when it looked like we were going to have to put on a Moron Inauguration for President Trump (ah, those words).

What I have read it wasn't the water source, it was the mains. The Detroit Water Dept. adds an anti-corrosive to their water (which Flint had been buying) to keep lead from leeching out of the pipes. The Flint Water Dept. did not add that anti-corrosive and they got lead leeching out of the pipes.

That was just a mistake. It was altering records to cover up the mistake that is bringing on the charges.

Sending it to every Jew I know

J Street is making a concentrated effort to go to Jewish communities and divide them from each other and from conservatives. Its wicked and deceitful

JStreet CEO is coming to Houston the day before the big AIPAC dinner, to cleave the community. They are at real risk of losing the Jewish vote and they know it

Prepare yourselves for the most outlandish propaganda from JSTREET and the ADL. They put an avowed Obamaite in charge of the ADL. Obama appointed Ben Rhodes to run the Holocaust museum. That doesnt sound dangerous but it is.

This is a very determined and strategic plot to destroy conservative zionist institutions; the synagogues and the advocacy groups, and the cultural institutions like the Jewish Federations.

I am not familiar with this artist but that is going to change. This painting is wonderful on so many levels: color, composition, technique, even the 'everyday' scene that has a Dutch Masters feel. I think it rivals Rembrandt (incredibly high praise from me) and reminded me of the quality of "Nightwatch".

Just did a quick wiki look at his other paintings and Velázquez is uniformly excellent. I have to add him to the list of artists I want to learn about.

68 Response to a Willow:

462 If you watched the entire event about the Patiemt Freedom Act you'd see it is not 'keeping Obamacare.' What it does allow is for dumb blue states to keep the marketplace operating if they want and the subsidy system, or they can choose to do something else. Isn't that what we want? For states to have choices? Meanwhile, mandate goes away, policies can be sold across state lines, everyone gets an HSA that would be used for basic coverage that includes some free preventative measures, etc.

If blue states think their exchange is working so well, let them be responsible for its ultimate collapse. But meanwhile rule about having to buy exchange plan goes away, as does the requirements for what qualifies as a plan.

I thought it was an excellent solution, would get broad support while allowing freedom to all states to do as they wanted with block grants of $$.

I don't think Comey is having a very good time as FBI director.

Before the election, lawyer Joe diGenova was making noises about
some FBI agents getting preped to testify before Congress about
shenanigans at DOJ. The biggest complaint was the top officials in
DOJ were shielding Hillary Clinton by denying an investigating
grand jury to issue subpoenas so the FBI could conduct a proper
investigation. Without the subpoenas, the FBI was forced to make
the ridiculous deals with Clinton staffers.

Once Trump won, this disappeared.

I predict ... Hillary Clinton will get the Scooter Libby treatment ... lying to the FBI

My prediction:

They'll get kicked around in 2018. 5% chance of a Republican supermajority, but something like an 75% chance of a 58 seat majority.

The Democratic Party will learn nothing from this disaster and double down for 2020.

If Trump has a successful presidency, especially if the economy comes roaring back, then they'll have no chance, but they will be convinced that they will. Media will become more and more unbearable. They'll nominate someone like Harris from CA, and then they'll lose.

If that happens, then we'll see a reorientation within the Democratic Party towards a more centrist party, but it's going to take having a serious series of loses on their part for that to happen.

The funniest thing about all this incident?

The Never Trumpers that I still follow on Twitter were gleeful at the incident. And they're the people who hated Trump because he was uncouth.

It's similar to Ace's observations about globalists being their own tribe even as they decry all tribes (national borders).

Dunno.
Posted by: joe, living dangerously at January 24, 2017 10:03 AM (KUaJL)

Comey never said Hillary did nothing wrong, in fact he went out of his way to present all the things she did wrong.

Then stunned everyone with the statement" No reasonable prosecutor would prosecute this case".

Remember, Comey doesn't bring charges. He can recommend the DOJ prosecute, but ultimately, it's up to them.

Now that Trump is president and has full security clearance. Comey may have very well told him the full story of what happened with Loretta Lynch, the meeting on the tarmac, the refusal of the DOJ to let the FBI interview Hillary's pack without all receiving immunity, etc.

This is going to take some very skillful trust rebuilding for the public regarding Comey.

Conway, who serves as President Trump's senior counselor, apparently stepped between two men after they got into a scuffle at the invite-only Liberty Ball on Friday evening, an attendee told the Daily News.

But the two men wouldn't break up the fight and Conway apparently punched one of them in the face with closed fists at least three times, according to the stunned onlooker.

The rank and file are probably not completely socialist -- some of them just vote Dem because that's what daddy did so it's good enough for them -- but the activists are certainly socialist and if they don't get what they want they'll go out and form a Democratic Socialist party. The popularity of Bernie was a harbinger of that. If the activists don't get what they want in '20 then they could split off after that.

I asked her if that was because they were afraid of catching colds, and she said no, it was for fear of CO poisoning from the sawdust stove they heated water over.

The answer of course has to do with how well insulated you are. The old houses I lived in with the sash windows and tar-paper backing to the clapboards and the crevices the cold would pour through didn't have much problem with CO poisoning in the old times, but still you banked your fires at night and slept with extra quilts

Birth control methods, from pills to implants, IUD's, etc. Diagnosis of STD's, and either treatment or referral. I believe they do PAP smears and a few of the clinics have mammogram machines. The overwhelming bulk of their money comes from abortion, particularly now that most insurance plans cover Rx birth control.
When I was in college, PP was the go to place for birth control pills for students because they were incredibly cheap and no notice was sent to your parents, as would be the case sometimes with university plans that billed the parents the cost. Also was the place to go for an abortion, although I'll be honest, I don't know anyone who had an abortion during my time in HS or college. There was a rumor about someone in my HS, but that was it, a rumor.

246 I know a lady who grew up very poor in South Korea
who once said that they didn't wash their hair or take baths at night in
the winter.
I asked her if that was because they were afraid of
catching colds, and she said no, it was for fear of CO poisoning from
the sawdust stove they heated water over.

The answer of course
has to do with how well insulated you are. The old houses I lived in
with the sash windows and tar-paper backing to the clapboards and the
crevices the cold would pour through didn't have much problem with CO
poisoning in the old times, but still you banked your fires at night and
slept with extra quilts

Posted by: Kindltot at January 24, 2017 10:37 AM (UZg+f)

Interesting. When I was stationed in Korea in the mid-1980's, it was not uncommon for CO poisoning to occur due to heated floors in Korean houses. They would put charcoal under the floor and it would not combust completely.

249 When I grew up in the South in the 50s we had some kin-folks living out in the country who had pot-bellied stoves for heating in the winter. (Also made a convenient place to put a coffee pot). With proper installation of the stove vent pipe (about 8" diameter) there was no threat of CO in the house. The stove burned wood BTW.

And they used to keep the room with that stove in it incredibly warm too.

A little bit OT, but I see this happening a lot in coming years. As the Feds pull back on funding social programs, some states will want to fill the gap and maintain benefits, while other states will be happy to let the benefits go. The states that want to tax their producers to maintain marginal benefits will continue to lose producers and attract rent-seekers. I predict real urban unrest in those states, to the extent that we should start thinking about the refugees who are our friends and family. That's coming within the next decade.

Wat?

Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway allegedly punched a man in the face at President Trump's inaugural ball

the ny daily news

...

Top Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway allegedly punched a tuxedo-clad man at an exclusive inauguration ball just hours after the new commander-in-chief was sworn in, according to a witness.

Conway, who serves as President Trump's senior counselor, apparently stepped between two men after they got into a scuffle at the invite-only Liberty Ball on Friday evening, an attendee told the Daily News.

But the two men wouldn't break up the fight and Conway apparently punched one of them in the face with closed fists at least three times, according to the stunned onlooker.

...

"Inside the ball we see a fight between two guys in tuxes and then suddenly out of nowhere came Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway who began throwing some mean punches at one of the guys," Gasparino wrote. "Whole thing lasted a few mins no one was hurt except maybe the dude she smacked."

Gasparino emphasized in the post that he did not "exaggerate" any part of his account, adding, "Now I know why trump hired her."

I think he should have recommended prosecution and let the AG take the heat for refusing to follow through. But I also understand that any attempt to remove him would create a fight that would waste resources Trump can use for other things. It'd likely require an impeachment by the Senate, or a battle to the Supreme Court, to remove him and would give the left plenty of ammunition that Trump was trying to fill the government with his own lackeys.

Meh, let him stay on for another year, with the understanding that he resigns sooner rather than later. He'll have the cover to claim it's to spend more time with his family, and Trump eventually gets a new director that he can trust.

Every single person in the Obama administration with the exception of some career appointees wanted to protect Hillary no matter what their public position was and I have ever confidence they did whatever was necessary regardless of public pronouncements. Did the CDC, perhaps, notice that we still have nationwide issues with cancer, heart disease, aids, influenza and other diseases, not to mention measles, mumps and other issues ( particularly those brought in by the widespread migration across our southern border?) that they need to handle instead of "climate," since those things are, like, diseases, and, like, "diseases" is in their name? Nope none of that stuff noticed - but you know what the lefty SJW's at the CDC DID notice? They noticed Trump getting elected.

As for the woman frying (or poaching) eggs in the picture. One of the great treats in the world is an egg that has been fried in lots of good (and I emphasize good) olive oil. It's a fatty treat that can't be beat. You know you owe yourself that a couple of times a year. The lady in the picture has about the right amount of olive oil in the pan--you're not poaching them--but at least a good 1/8th of an inch or so of oil needs to be in the pan--so you can baste the eggs with the hot olive oil.

I''d rather have two of those eggs than breakfast with Queen Moochelle. OTOH there are a whole lot of things I'd rather do than spend any time in the vicinity of that woman.

Again, let's not forget there is a very active investigation currently going on with both the NYPD and the FBI looking into the CGI from top to bottom. One of the fist people Trump met with during the transition was the US Attorney in NY who works for the DOJ, soon to be under Sessions, who had been leading a very aggressive investigation into the CGI. 447 Speaking of Cali, this is the latest missive I received from the Air Resources Board - Cap and Trade extended through 2030 (no real surprise) and refineries will be required to cut their GHG emissions by 20% - what is left unstated is that if refineries don't comply or cannot comply (as is the case), a tax will be levied on them. This is the state's way of making up for lost federal climate change money they thought were coming their way. So, gas will go up in this state and any refinery that can leave will do so - the small ones already have.

So unless someone lied in their testimony to the FBI, (very likely) they cannot be prosecuted. So now there is not much incentive to provide lots of damaging material to the FBI.

I'm not privy to the evidence the FBI had collected, but if it really did hinge on intent (which Comey said and is not actually important in the law), then he should have recommended prosecution.

Sure, Lynch would have most likely killed it, but a public recommendation to recommend prosecution would have had as much or even more of an effect on public opinion than a tortured reason to not recommend prosecution.

I'm not saying that he should be kicked out because he considered political reality when he made his moves, but I am saying that overall the defense of Comey is a weaker argument than the argument for kicking him to the curb.

500 Yeah - on that DNC thing - someone above mentioned they are becoming a
fringe organization - I agree and think that they are taking the entire
Democrat Party down for good. Let's face it - this election showed the
majority of normal, non SJW non New York, LA and Chicago folks in this
country ( i.e about 90% of tyhe entire country) are sick of the
politics of personal division and a government that is actively trying
to destroy them, their livelihoods and the chance for their kids to get
jobs fior the sake of what? the right of a tranny to pee in your
daughter's bathroom at middle school? The right to shoot cops? The
right for upper west side residents of Manhattan to eat macrobiotic,
cage-free, gluten free, "organic" eggs?

I mean just listen to this money quote:

"My job is to listen and be a voice and shut other white people down when they want to interrupt . . . I need sahooling so I can go school the other white people.""

Yep - definitely need me some schoolin' from this turd.

You
know Hillary did win the popular vote - but that was due to running up
the score in big urban centers in NY and CA. That happened because
people in those states who were anti Hillary did not think their vote
counted - but now I think they see that their vote does count and that
they can stick it to the liberal nazis in NYC and LA by coming out and
giving Trump the popular vote next time out - and I think they will -
certainly if asses like this Sally Boynton-Brown (from Brattleboro, Vermont perhaps?) idiot at the DNC event are still
whining 4 years from now.

It illegal to pass on classified material without authorization, to people without clearances.

We have enough information in the public domain that it is beyond a doubt she did so.

The Statute does not require intent to make this against the law, just being negligent is enough under the law.

They then conspired to Withhold Evidence, and destroyed evidence... that is also beyond any reasonable doubt... and once again, does not take intent to be against the law.

She was not, and is not, prosecuted because of being a Politician...

And this WAS the call of DOJ and the FBI....

Clearly we do not have equal application of the Law, and non one in those agencies involved should remain in Government Employ.

522 Still, for an FBI Director to take a pass and let
someone break serious laws without prosecution because it's a Democrat

It's no different than taking a bribe to take a pass for reasons like that.

Comey didn't want the blowback and to have Democrats say mean things about him on the talk shows, so he took a dive.

We need someone with a stronger spine to be in charge of federal law enforcement.

I've often wondered if the Lynch/Clinton tarmac meeting didn't have more to do with threats. Clinton threatening Lynch that they would spill the beans on her as well as TFG, and that would cause a constitutional crisis. We all know that TFG was up to his eyeballs in this crap.

Comey may have gone along to avoid that situation. However, he still wanted the world to know what a criminal Cankles was, hence his news conference where he detailed all of her crimes. Later, he took another swipe at her by reopening the case just before election day. All the while hoping that he would be able to bring her down if/when Cankles lost and a republican administration would give him carte blanche to go after he.

At least that's the best case scenario I can come up with. (Again, special dispensation wrt prepositions.)

There's no real-life reason they shouldn't be built. They're symbols to the Marxists, and I can't wait to see them finished. The DAPL stoppage in particular was an abuse of power. For purely poliltical reasons Obama punished a company that had followed all the rules.

635 Whether Comey's actions were justified, the truth is that he is a dead man walking--neither Democrats nor Republicans trust him on the Hill. His job is now dependent on Trump. Probably a significant number of FBI agents at the street level feel the same way. BTW, Comey bravely threatened to resign and tell all during the Ashcroft-Gonzalez kerfluffle over warrantless acquisition of information. It does not appear that he did so here so arguing that he was similarly virtuous in the Hillary matter is kinda beside the point. Comey also allowed the investigation to be headed by an Asst FBI director who owed a big one the Hillary crew regarding campaign contributions to the Asst. Director's wife.

My best guess is that Comey resigns in a year or two after the dust settles down. Trump has a lot of irons in the fire right now and if he wants to proceed with a Hillary probe, it will come from Sessions appointment of an independent prosecutor telling the FBI what to do somewhere down the line. There is a statute of limitations for what Hillary did so that is the real timeline. The investigations into the CGI also continue.

Trump could have probably fired Comey but Trump is just Machiavellian enough to allow Comey enough time to save face and then lower the boom if Comey does not leave at some time in the future. Congressional committee or independent presidential commissions investigations along with press leaks generally are the time honored way to deal with such issues.

Posted by: whig at January 24, 2017 12:01 PM (R15Tp)

636 >>FBI also arrests.

>>Let the DOJ publicly announce they won't prosecute.

This is no different than impeaching and having the Senate do nothing. Ok, do it. Then what?

Comey did act as a whistleblower. That was what the presser was all about. And what did the DOJ do? Met with Bill Clinton on the tarmac and do nothing but obstruct any investigations or prosecutions.

Let say he resigned. So what? How would that have changed the outcome at all? It wouldn't have.

Hillary Clinton will never be President. That was the outcome we wanted and what Comey did helped. Everything else is just political infighting and sorry, it isn't exactly news that the political class takes care of itself.

Let's see what happens now with a DOJ that seems to believe in law and order and Hillary being just a citizen.

I've been arguing for decades... nay, centuries. These are politicians, they're not people.

People think and act and make mistakes and have noble motives and change and grow and die.

Politicians are the face of a roiling, shadowy organization of many, with polls and speeches and fake twitter accounts, all meant to fool the masses into believing they are dealing with a human being.

It's NOT human. It doesn't have feelings, it doesn't consider what others say, it doesn't evolve. It feeds itself. What it eats is power.

Pretending politicians are something else is silly and naive.

There are "underlings" (who aren't necessarily underlings) in the FBI who were very distraught over the decision not to indict. These underlings are actually in positions of regional power (Special Agents in charge, etc). I don't think this will end well for Hillary or for Comey. 659 Yes, Trudeau will probably pull something. He's just- IMO- a better looking version of Obama.

I saw a split screen image of Trudeau spliced w/Fidel Castro on some obscure website. It was eerie how much they lined up. The caption claimed Trudeau was Castro's son. I knew his old man was into some kinky stuff. Was he cucked by Castro, or is it just political commentary?

Could've been. His mom was a Castro gal pal.

I'm not sure it's a Starbucks. The video title has "Starbucks" in it, but I don't see anything that's distinctively Starbuckian in the video.
And that matters, because it's not plausible that a Starbucks manager/owner would let somebody stage and film and post something like this--whereas somebody who owned a mom-and-pop coffee shop might.

664 Aren't they both being used to ship Canadian oil to US refieries/ports? (A job once done by Koch and Buffet rail cars, f-you guys.)
If that IS the case, I wonder if Trudeau will pull some greentard crap and not ship.

KXL is Canadian tar sand oil, but DAPL is North Dakota oil. I'm not sure Trudeau could stop it but it would be just like him to try.

666 Vieja Friendo Huevos (Old Woman Frying Eggs)

++++

I don't think so. First off, the direct translation of the title is "Old Woman Eggs" (I know Wiki has the "frying" in there, but it's just not there in the Sapnish). Secondly, it looks like there is a lot of liquid in that pan. Finally, the woman is holding a spoon, not a flipper.

That is a painting of an old woman poaching eggs.
