Schumer Delaying Pompeo's Confirmation as Head of CIA After Having Promised to Confirm All NatSec Heads By Last Friday

Senator Burr has a pointed summation: "He lied."

So what's this about?

Here's what I think it's about: The Democrats are banking on a lunatic scenario whereby Michael Flynn or others on Trump's staff are found to have conspired with Russia. They figure, I think, that the acting head of the CIA -- note that with Brennan's (none-too-soon) departure there is no official head of the CIA, just some holdover acting as head -- will be able to ferret out the Traitors whereas I guess they think Pompeo wouldn't be as serious about Finding All the Traitors.

So they're going to expose the US to greater security risks and higher chances of a successful terrorist attack to appease the crazies on the left pushing for Chimpeachment 2: Chimps Gone Bananas, and risk American lives on a 0.0000001% chance that there's anything to this newest pipe-dream conspiracy theory or that Brennan's Boyz can find evidence of it.

5 Trumps seems to have said that he won't go after Clinton's myriad corruption scandals because it would be unseemly to go after a defeated political candidate.

But I hope at this point that not only he go after her for the emails and CGI, but her connections to China and Saudi Arabia, and Jarret's connections to Iran.

The only way this stuff stops is if prominent Democrats feel the pain.

Cruz is pulling the line, currently. Though I wonder what will happen when Trump moves on from the low hanging fruit (that has huge populist/conservative crossover) to his more "let the government help people" policies.

As someone who actually believes in conserving the values and ideals that founded the country, I don't know that I want Trump to get his giant infrastructure bill through.

Of course, I'm the crazy Civil Engineer who thinks the ASCE has turned into a giant lobby group for scaring the populace and government into spending more money on infrastructure. - THE BRIDGES HAVE FAILING GRADES!!!!

I linked to an article this morning where Trump could quite possible have a massive number of picks for the Federal judiciary as well as change the nature of SCOTUS for at least a generation.

Considering the undue and unintended massive influence of that body on our lives (an Article V process notwithstanding), that is an opportunity that may never happen for 100 years.

I hope Sessions and perhaps Ted Cruz and whomever else that are real conservatives can rally the troops and stand behind Trump on this.

Absolutely crucial.

93 The problem with the RUSSIAN VAPORS is that even if you accept on face value that the Russians gave Assange all the dirt on Hillary, Huma and Podesta (which Assange repeatedly says is utter bullshit), then you still have nothing more than the Russians telling the Americans the TRUTH about what these criminals were up to.

If finding out the truth about what politicians are up to is considered hacking an election, then we really need to nuke this shit from space.

Please answer:

Did the Russians hack the election machines?

Yes

No

Answer: No.

Really? I read it earlier today and at this link with no problem.

Here's the net. Schumer asked for a one day delay for Pompeo's testimony because they had a number of scheduled hearings for that day before the Senate in exchange for a guarantee of a vote on Friday. Republican agreed. Schumer then reneged and said he was only speaking for himself instead of the entire Democrat caucus. In other words, he lied.

So Pompeo will get approved today instead and Schumer will pay a price in the future.

That's it.

I suspect he went to the Dark Side as the Inner D party consolidated its grip and Chuckie sold out to become Senate Minority Leader (he thought he might be Senate Majority Leader if Hillary hadn't fucked up).

I'm not sure where Schumer is, except out for himself.

Chuckie may be more pliable, and subject to Trump "hondling" especially over Infrastructure.

Slow walking approvals maintains Schumer's street cred.

I don't doubt for a second that they would love to do that: if they had the power. But, the only thing they had they power to do was stop the voice vote on Friday. So, instead there will be a formal vote tonight. The Dems can't stop it with a filibuster; they are impotent as far as confirming cabinet nominees. Even they can't have thought the weekend was enough time to change anything.

I doubt Schumer is happy about this. He thought he had the power to make the deal he made. He base wouldn't even allow that. They want total war. Obstruct everything, no matter what.

US Government buys low bid from the crony that has contributed to the right people. They cut costs in stupid places.

Remember the I35W bridge collapse in Minneapolis Minnesota? The gusset plates were 1" steel. If they were 1-1/2" steel, the bridge would still be standing. If the bridge was not designed to be a single failure, it would still be standing.

I still think they should design every freeway bridge to be an extra lane wide. So when they need to work on the other side, they have enough room for traffic on one bridge. (Or if the other bridge fails?)

That's a pretty good idea. No, not the whole First Lady Panties for Highest Bidder (which I am certain one of you Morons would win) -
Melania's focus as first lady, rather than trying to play Nazi with kid's lunches or re-write Healthcare, should be to devote all her efforts to increasing support for current and former service members.
Just drum up support to fix the VA by showing repeatedly how much of a fucking mess it is. Plus, I'm sure there are some vets who would enjoy her walking around the base.
Maybe she could bring along Luke Bryan or someone for the lady vets.

Yeah, exactly. If engineers are saying "our bridges and infrastructure are in danger" I think we're better off believing them than scoffing at them. I know for a fact that at least in the Northwest, the electrical infrastructure is held together with baling wire and duct tape. It needs help badly. Part of the cost is all the paperwork that shows you met the specifications and passed all the tests. Yes, even for a hammer or a fiberglass cover for a toilet. Or you need to reconfigure a production line to build three of something. Part of it is how the overhead costs are allocated too.

I do not work for the Government, but I have bought six $0.25 capacitors for $1500.00. I thought the price was ridiculous, because it was the first time I needed these kinds of parts. And then my boss congratulated me, because it would have cost us that much to re-create the testing and more importantly, we needed those parts by the end of the week on a Christmas Holiday. Else a 600 MW unit gets shut down. That was $200,000 per day, everyday, and 400 people get their holiday plans ruined.

requirements for proving to bureucrats can only be measured in paperwork that required an approved plan (paper) and test results (paper). original requirement may have been for a home depot hammer, but someone let the procurement bureucrat stamp the requirements document with stamps for multiple levels of testing. If you fly with the hammer, prove it is safe in a crash. prove it can withstand 10 gs. heat, etc. etc. hence $1000
