YES!
- After hitting double yesterday where he slid in ugly but clearly safe; today Spicer casually comes out and its a home run. Love it. And here's something worth noting: the man is comfortable in casually facing up to an honest though blatant mistake. Whatever the "issue with metro ridership" was, Spicer shrugged and basically said 'yeah, we got some iffy info from an outside group - we acknowledge it'. - Notice how he owned the error without giving the press a juicy soundbite like, 'we were wrong' ; or even 'we were misinformed'. He's not afraid to do some deft (but honest) backpedaling while immediately following up with a stiff (but polite) jab. - Spicer did NOT back away from his central (and TRUE) claim that it was the most _watched_ inaugural in history. He's good. Period. Posted by: Stoic Trumpublican at January 23, 2017 02:26 PM (dDOWg) 111

Posted by: Lizzy at January 23, 2017 02:27 PM (NOIQH) Part of this is also psychological in several strategic ways. Part of the media's power the past few years has not been through actual reporting of facts but by 'getting the story out there' and then repubs not fighting back against it. They have won by default oftentimes. Changing that paradigm is key. Also, right now, he is focusing all of their attention on himself, not on squishes like McConnell, McCain and Graham. And that discounts all of the problems with weather stations, the paucity of them in the southern hemisphere, the downgrading of temperature records from the 30s, and all the rest of the problems. How about we just publish the data in the form it's collected, then make sure that if any subsequent adjustments are published the original data remains available, and that the rationale for any adjustments is clearly enumerated and publicly audited? The most important thing for Trump to do is delegitimize the lying press. Catch them in a lie and pound it mercilessly. They can hit the administration from dozens of angles; networks, NPR, NYT, WaPo, Time, bloggers etc. All coordinated. Spicer is just one guy who will have no one helping him aside from a few dextrosphere bloggers. His job is not to provide information to the jackals, but to counter their lies. The more time he ties them up in trivialities the better.

146 I'd like to add a projection screen in back of Spicer. Prepare ahead of time. Wait for their bullshit question, then queue the video (or graph, or photo) showing them to be clearly lying. Throw quotes from their own papers and news shows back in their shocked faces.
It is fairly easy to predict what things they will lie about. Just get a bunch of queued up responses ready and wait.... Or better still, get a list of the Dem talking points. These get faxed to the Journalists ahead of the presser. wait for one of them to use the exact wording of the Dem talking point, then pull it up on screen for all to see. Ask them - to what extent are you simply a mouthpiece for the democrats? Isn't that embarrassing? Lastly, be nice about it. Smile. Laugh. Tease them. Pity them. Say you are only trying to help them do a better job going forward.... Posted by: George Orwell's Ghost at January 23, 2017 02:28 PM (UgF8H) I heartily second this. You queue up all of the press nonsense, and have Sean step back and say "No, here's what *actually* was said/wrote/tweeted/whatever," and then play the clip in question or display the quote or tweet or whatever. And then he steps back to the podium and says "Now, what was your question again?" Posted by: booknlass __________ I would agree, but the fact that less people showed up to see Trump than Obama in 2008 WAS TRUE. It was petty and typical of the media to point this out, but there's no need to go out there and try to pretend otherwise. It's also a dumb issue, it's not like we're arguing about ObamaCare here, it's how many people showed up at your party. I just think Trump could have been a little better at pushing back, maybe said something like his attendance for his Inauguration had way better turnout than Hillary's and moved on. I guess I've just never warmed up to how Team Trump seems to have sort of temper tantrums over small things like SNL's impersonation of him of what Meryl Streep says at an Awards Show that nobody watches. one of the left's new memes is to trash Kelly Anne over her "alternative facts" comment.
But it is true that the set of facts the MFM puts out (when they are not out and out lying) are the facts that support their attack narrative. The set of facts that counter that would indeed fit into an "alternative facts" group, that back up the alternative view. "Facts the support the alternative" would be clearer, so the MFM makes a huge joke out of it. Most people know the media is biased, but maybe moving the Overton window on just how biased they are is necessary. It does seem worse than ever. They didn't. The lead story was the media lying about the MLK bust. The media wants to continue focusing on the crowd size because they know there aren't hard numbers so they can fudge it. Your claim that it wasn't going to be big news is bullshit because it was going to be one of their main legs of the "Trump isn't popular!" Table. Posted by: Buzzion at January 23, 2017 03:05 PM (cAnNx) Maritime, the point of Trump and Spicer's relentless discussion of this is to highlight the press's plans. They do not want to report facts and truths, they want to delegitimize in any way possible this president and his administration and they know that with enough bad press, they can cause the Republican establishment to fold like a wet pita. Why would any press spend time mincing how many people rode a metro train, how many were estimated to be standing in the crowd , etc. other than to make it appear that this is a very unpopular president, despite the fact he just won an election? Just as the press is trying to delegitimize Trump, so he will delegitimize them. They tried it for 18 months during an election and he and his team became quite adept at learning how to turn it on the press. You realize that reporters have said that every morning, they huddle in their groups at their HQ and their editors provide the narrative for the day and tell the reporters to do whatever they can to find stories, etc. to support that narrative. They work hand in hand with the Democrats. Trump knows this and has given his press sec. and that office orders to fight it any way they can. Posted by: Jen at January 23, 2017 03:15 PM (+dgPH) 435

A lot of those fans can be like anyone's fans, open to suggestion. Remember why John Hinckley Jr. tried to assassinate Reagan? Because he was mentally ill, infatuated with Jodi Foster after seeing her in Taxi Driver, and wanted to impress her. So you have Disgusting Madge, standing up on a podium in Washington DC, screaming out obscenities,(oh my she's obviously upset, who did this to her, says her nut job fan) and says she has thought a lot about blowing up the WH. She has a responsibility because of unfortunately who she is, to not incentivize the faction of her fans who are nuts. So let the SS explain that to her. The thing about what Madonna said should and would get a person involuntarily committed and at least an investigation if not charges for terroristic threats or a lesser charge.
These people on the Left and Islmaists (and the feminist demonstrations in DC is a microcosm) never get held accountable and face consequences. So they become more and more violent and people get hurt. Laws must be enforced. When laws are enforced and people face consequences and are held accountable, it sends the message to the rest of the mob that laws being broken will not be tolerated and you will face consequences. Then the violence and harm to people will stop. Posted by: Pepe at January 23, 2017 03:26 PM (XNdCd) 485
