Mr. CBD is still under the weather. He asked me if I knew anything about art. I said sure, once upon a time my favorite show on PBS was The Joy of Painting with some guy named Bob Ross.

As for consolation and this weekend...nearly all my friends are liberals, especially my ex-girlfriends. So it wasn't a surprise that the black girl went to the thing in Philly, the Scandi girl went to DC, the Japanese girl's son went to DC, the local hippie girl went to Hartford. Fine.

(And this may be an argument to get off facebook because othwerise I wouldn't know these things).

You know what surprised me? The other girl who went to DC? My actual ex-wife and mother of my children.

Sheesh.

The sooner studio executives realize that movie stars don't sell tickets like they used to (if they ever actually did) the better.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- A "sister rally" that patterned the Women's March in Washington D.C., across the country, and even worldwide, also happened in downtown Indianapolis Saturday, on the lawn of the Indiana State Capitol.

Indiana State Police said they estimated around 4,000 to 5,000 people turned out to stand in solidarity in support for women's rights, civil rights and everyone's rights. It wasn't a protest, but rather a peaceful demonstration for the people by the people.

For Josh of Indianapolis, he says he was there to support his girlfriend and her reproductive rights. "I support her and her healthcare needs and any rights that are taken away from her is the same as being taken away from a man with the same mindset," he said. The best part is the scroungy bit of gristle that is her husband.

while his wife screeches out the lie (IMHO) about his mother dying.

194 Many years ago I tried some of Ross's techniques for trees and grasses with brushes and some with a palette knife. They work, even for a beginner. That was with oils. I assume they would work with acrylics as well. The man knew how to teach. (It would have helped if he could have provided some of his talent through the screen. Sigh.)

The Auguste Toulmouche paintings often have a slightly mocking undercurrent I find amusing. I wonder if this painting is meant to show a snow flake depressed over nothing much. There is nothing in the scene to indicate a terrible event has happened. It does have his usual technical proficiency for facial expressions and furnishings.

It's hilarious they're suddenly noticing the drubbing they've taken for years.

Even funnier is the sudden realization that the Grand Democrat Demographic Change isn't going to save them anytime soon either.

Nice painting - hate to link it to the loons this weekend.

Speaking of loons, Instapundit had a few nice links about Hollywood, one, very eye-opening about their accounting practices, and creating separate "companies" for each film to basically embezzle money back to the studios but still saying they didn't make a "profit" on the film.

https://pjmedia.com/instapundit/

How Hollywood Accounting Can Make a $450 Million Movie 'Unprofitable'

Here is an amazing glimpse into the dark side of the force that is Hollywood economics. The actor who played Darth Vader still has not received residuals from the 1983 film "Return of the Jedi" because the movie, which ranks 15th in U.S. box office history, still has no technical profits to distribute.

1.) They nominated a truly awful candidate with no appeal to anybody who wasn't already sold

5.) They need to put on their big-boy pants and big-girl panties and get to work

Of course that hasn't happened the Democrat who said those things publicly would be in danger of losing his life.

For me the thing that did that for Rubio was the debate where he got in his little one liner about Trump repeating himself and his supporters in the crowd lost their shit like it was the greatest takedown in history and he proceeded to mug for the camera for 20 seconds after that.

An interesting question is:

Will the Democratic Party be able to reorient their grassroots to taking local races with the same energy that they take national races?

I get the feeling that the activist left is very much tied to the idea of federal power, and most of the younger generation has been convinced that the federal government is the only one that really matters.

Can they be moved to have the patience to fight for county seats, spend years building, and then taking state governments?

If you had asked me in about 2010 if I thought the right could do it, I'd have said "probably not" because I wouldn't have believed that we would have had enough patience.

Heh, that only scratches the surface...

My first job out of college was as a National Bank Examiner for the US Treasury. I was working in Los Angeles and one of the banks in my portfolio had done some financing for a studio. Had, past tense, because their analysts couldn't figure out the nonsense that the studio was sending them inre financials for their movies. This forced them to classify the loans per federal regulations, which required the bank to reserve against the value of the loans, which impacted the bank's profitability.

And as a NBE, I was required to go over the loan files of all classified loans, and I gotta tell you...nonsense is the polite term.

If Obama got to skate because of how he implemented the ACA, taking advice from insurance companies on when to illegally move the start date of the employer mandate, then this isn't going anywhere either.

Impeachment is, and always has been, a weak check on presidents. What would be better would be if the legislative branch were actually jealous of its power and didn't cede it to the executive at every opportunity.

I honestly don't think anything Trump is doing with respect to his businesses crosses any ethical line, I will say though that I think he should simply sell any property that gets a check from the government or simply buy out the lease, just for the optics.

I don't want anyone to forget that when it came time to stand and fight in Indiana (RFRA signing) that he knuckled under in under a week - "we need to change the law to make sure that protected classes aren't discriminated against."

I don't live in Indiana, but it's my understanding that the changes made to the RFRA actually makes things worse for those it's supposed to help. I.e., the legal situation was better before the initial passage.

As I checked out of the supermarket I saw a magazine "How to be charming." Maybe the hope is that the taint of a successful impeachment would color the Republican Party for a generation, much like Watergate did.

Pence as President could be an acceptable risk if Republicans are all seen as corrupt and untrustworthy, limiting their ability to win down ticket races and implementing agendas.

Does the federal government have any power into forcing such an action of a state run election? I get the feeling that it would be a no because the constitution is pretty explicit about letting states run them, but then again, we have the VRA.

Since you brought up the Packers...

Did McCarthy even game plan for the Falcons? Seriously, the offense was out of sorts (hey, maybe we should pick up the blitzing linebacker coming straight up the middle). The defense was, well, it was the same smoke and mirrors that finally got exposed. I think Capers' plan for each game is - get 3 or 4 timely sacks, one timely fumble recovery, and one timely interception - and hope that the opposing receivers drop the ball and that the RB runs into his O-line.

BLAH.

409 I want the name of every privately owned bake shop in the country for which the ownership is a known leftist.

The Christian-owned ones that got smeared were targeted using Alinsky tactics, and it is time for reprisal.

The cake we want baked is to be the table centerpiece for a party we plan for celebrating whatever victorious action the Trump White House has done recently, will have red, white, and blue icing in the flag pattern, and a big M.A.G.A. set of letters on top.

For every refusal, we will have cameras rolling, and lawyers ready.

Bwahaha

Had a friend who was up in park city Saturday to see a Sundance film. Had no clue that there would be a protest. Apparently it was a complete and utter crapfest. They encourage parking far away from downtown in set parking areas and using shuttles to get around. But between the snow and the protestor crazy they shut the shuttles down! So to get around your options we're taking the city buses, running every half hour, and walking. Three miles between the parking area and park city Main Street. She made it to her film but it was insane.

Dumbest part? If you are protesting in park city you are 100% preaching to the choir. It's just a feel good wankfest that did not move any hearts and minds. Idiots.

This is Cheney 2.0. Remember the leftist court battles and chants of impeachment, and calls for war crimes trials(that goes on even today) because Cheney had been on the BOD of Haliburton prior to his running for VP. He left his position with Halliburton two years before becoming VP, had sold a lot of his shares of Halliburton stock, and put the rest in a blind trust.

But all we have heard forever from the leftists is that we went to Iraq for the oil and to enrich Halliburton and Cheney. I also recall everytime Halliburton won a bid from the US government to restore infrastructure in Iraq because they were the only company with the ability to do some of the projects, a zillion lawsuits from these sham leftists organizations would clog the courts screaming about war profiteering.

Abortion is not a form of birth control, and nobody is banning the sale
of contraceptives, so I don't understand.

Their logic is: Access = Rights, so if you hinder their "access"" to birth control (by making them pay for it) or abortion (by regulating it, limiting by gestational age of baby) you are denying them their "rights".

Yeah, it's BS, but they have to characterize anything that isn't 100% in line with their demands as OMG!scary! to get women marching, voting for Dems.

===
First, leftists do not agree with the actual definition of a right.
The conservative definition is that a a right is something given by God that man cannot take away. Right to life is an example. No human can give you life, once there is a meeting of egg and sperm, life will commence. Man cannot simply take ingredient a and ingredient b and create life.

Actual rights are not to be given nor taken by government or another man. Such as your life.
(Let's not get into death penalty, etc.)

Leftists believe that a right is anything they want the government to do for you. So therefore, anything they say is a right , is a right. Right to abortion, right to contraception, right to marriage, right to health care, etc.

So to them, reproductive rights means that whatever they choose to do to determine whether they reproduce or not is a right. They have a right to contraception, they have a right to abortion to remove what they have started to reproduce. And because in their mind it's a right, they are to be supported in those choices which means if they can't or won't pay for it, they are to be given their "right" by the government and be provided those rights financially.

Never mind that they had a free choice from the get go to not have sex and therefore, exercise their "right" to not reproduce. So in essence, they have turned having sex into a right.

You could drive yourself nuts trying to understand their thinking. But what it boils down to is a juvenile line of thinking that they have no responsibility for anything they want to do and the rest of society must pay and support them in their decisions. It is socialistic thinking from immature and inexperienced children.

Posted by: DoublySymmetric at January 23, 2017 11:19 AM (8hICw)

I think McCarthy is a good coach who is prone to brain farts when it matters most and it has cost the Packers playoff games in the past.
This wasn't one of them.
They were running on vapors and heart going into the game, so many not just hurt but injured players suiting up...Rodgers didn't even sound like himself, so his "bug" was in full effect still. Secondary in tatters, blah blah blah.
They would have had a hard time against Atlanta at full strength, so I take nothing away from their win.

Packers need to find out why they are always injured.
Fix that and let the rest sort itself out.
