Grab a beverage, a snack and your best behavior. It's time for the almost world famous Ace of Spades Pet Thread.

A Little of This. A Little of That

Let's take a look and see what the Horde has sent in.

Meet The Pet Morons

orange puff.jpg

Our first pet is Orange Puff.
"this is orange puff who followed me all the way to the hay field. he's watching the baling being done anticipating all the mice he'll kill once i turn the bales in the barn.
he knows.
from concrete girl"
Thank you Concrete Girl

Our next two entries are from Cat Ass Trophy

cat 1.jpg

cat2.jpg

Here is what C.A.T has to say about these cats in the photos.
"This is Silas (B&W) the 21lb beast with little sister Cutie, a gray/orange dilute tortoiseshell pain in the butt. Busy keeping the possums at bay.

Lower picture is Cutie and Lancelot (the white idiot) in a q-tip showdown. Q-tips have to be kept in a locked cabinet because Cutie can break into most anything else to get the box."

Thanks for the photos.

Our next pet is not in the holiday spirit.

"Hi-- This is our girl, "Baby", who is not at all interested in dressing up for Christmas. She's telling me I'm crazy to even ask her to sit next to these decorations!Nic is: JQ Flyover"

Thank you for the submission JQ Flyover.

The next three photos come from Washington Nearsider.

wn 1.jpg

wn2.jpg

wn3.jpg

Here is the story about these fun looking critters.

"Washington Nearsider here. I've dropped into kind of a perpetual Lurk status, but want to get my pets up if I can.

I've got Milo the greyhound (pronounced Me-Low), who raced for 2 years, accumulating an impressive 2-64 record before finding a house where he could lay around. His callsign is 'Dummy,' and it's definitely a term of endearment. He's a quiet, kind soul who just wants to lay on his bed or in his crate (which is his safe-space, not his punishment), eat, and occasionally go outside to sprint in circles at around 38mph, shredding my yard with his enormous shovel-like paws.

There's also Ajax the Bengal (part Asian Leopard) who is more of a dog than Milo. The pic is him at a few months old. He's gotten quite a bit bigger, but alas, there aren't pictures... Ajax walks on a leash, comes when you call, plays fetch, et al. He LOVES walking in the snow, which is how I discovered he only leaves two footprints instead of four when he walks. He places his back paws precisely on the spot where his front paws went, ensuring silence as he stalks his prey. He's got a vertical leap that puts him on top of the fridge, from which he surveys his domain and plots my death.

I've sent a pic of each of them, and one of them... interacting. It's pretty much par for the course. Ajax runs shit, and everyone knows it."

Don't lurk so much, come out and say "Hi" more often.

Speaking of lurkers. We have a lurker couple who submitted the following photos and their story.

"We love the Ace site, and the pet moron thread, and have attached below a photo of our Shetland sheepdog babies for the pet moron gallery of cuteness.

We (anonymous lurkers both) adopted Lucy and Tucker from our local Sheltie rescue group three years ago after our adopted Sheltie wonderdog Hunter passed away.
(Here is a picture of Hunter, taken in 2010.)"

lurker 1.jpg

lurker2.jpg

Lucy is a now 10-year-old blue merle female who lived in a crate her entire life before we became her humans. Near feral when we brought her home, Lucy had never had a bath; her skin and the insides of her ears were black with filth. It made us want to cry. Lucy is super smart and has turned into an incredible snuggle-bunny. She loves baths and is also very bossy, in a herding-dog sort of way. She hates to hear people sneeze; it makes her jump up and bark!

Tucker is a 3-year-old sable male. He was abandoned on a local Army base and the rescue group told us he was 2 or 3 when they got him. Wrong! He was only five months old. In addition, he had been hit by a car and had a fractured femur head, which we discovered after we brought him home. Tucker sailed through the surgery and now runs like the wind. We think he might be part Wookiee, as his vocalizations sometimes sound like Chewbacca. Tucker hates squirrels, deer and the doorbell with a white-hot passion.

Here are Lucy and Tucker. (Tucker looks a little damp in the photo because he had just fallen in the swimming pool.):

Keep up the good work!
Sincerely,
Anonymous Lurkers Tammy and David

11 My cat, Bunnie, which is, coincidentally, short for Snugglebunnie because that's what he is, has lost a lot of weight, and he's now just under 6 pounds. I went to a new vet (because VCA being bought by the people who own Banfield). We did blood work - some kidney stuff but nothing major - and now an ultrasound. He either has lymphoma or irritable bowel disease. I don't know what to think because he has decided to be incredibly playful if it's with just the right toy, and since I can't find that toy any more, I'm going to have to figure out how to make them. And I get to pill him twice a day but he's a very nice kitteh so he takes it as well as one might expect without actually assassinating me. I'm not one to do chemo on pets or anything like that, and we're not even going to do a biopsy to see which disease it really is. He's 14 and I have had him for just over 13 of those years. So he gets to have fun and eat baby food for as long as he wants to, and maybe raw food if I can find some that he likes, and when it's time, it's time. He's extremely snuggly still and I love him to pieces.

Sophie, my Catahoula leopard cur, continues to be brilliant and funny and I hope she's healthy for another 30 or 40 years although I am told this is unlikely.

23 Still looking at the kitty hat parade?

Do you have a kitteh, or more than one, who is TIRED of human speciesist cultural appropriation of the term "pussy" for lefty causes? Does your kitteh long to stand proud as a red-blooded Feline American and ROAR? Until someone comes out with a line of cat-sized MAGA hats, here's one answer: #Trumpyourcat, a way that your kitteh can sport a hairline like DJT's:

http://tinyurl.com/gnjce3x

(The inventor is a good-looking young dude, BTW). Yeah, the clip is from CNN, but it's still kitteh-friendly. Happy First Caturday of the Donald's Administration!

24 Well, we brought our 13 year old kitty on her Final trip to the vet today. Poor thing had lost all kinds of weight, and had stopped eating entirely.

But this is something of a "cat sanctuary" with a family of four cats underfoot, another living in the basement (slowly spending more time upstairs), and two foster kitties in their own room.

The deceased was attached to Mrs. Optimizer, but terrorized all the "interlopers", to the fullest extent her energy allowed.

So, from a cat perspective, I suppose it's kind of like the scene from any version of "A Christmas Carol", where the Ghost of Christmas Future shows Scrooge's funeral.

Well, at least "Snuggles" got to see Trump become President, and on a more general note, "Hillary Clinton will NEVER be President".

If he insists on being skinny, I will feed him just about anything he will eat.

44 Hi All! just got back to RI from the inauguration! Had an epic time, but the TSA security check point, yes, TSA was also there, was the the worst!! We waited for an hour and a half to get through a check point to see the parade after witnessing the swearing in of Donald J. Trump as President. This check point only had two screen areas, checking your bags and walk through metal detector. When they checked my bag, the TSA guy took my lighter! I was like, seriously!?...now I had to find someone who was smoking to get a light, so I see this guy in a uniform smoking walking towards us and ask him for a light, I tell him the TSA took my lighter, he's like "what?"...the dude was TSA himself...anyway...Now I know why it took so long, some people were in that line for 5 hours!!...Fricken' TSA...The other security check points went quick, but that was Capitol police and the like... then when we went to find a spot for the parade we were at groung zero for protestors!! Whoa...what a bunch of friggen' losers they are...I did see a paper mache Donald Trump Devil!

Posted by: @votermom @vm at January 21, 2017 03:00 PM (Om16U)

1. Daughter had a Great Pyrenees that developed bone cancer and fractured her left rear leg which had to be amputated. Daughter went to an all raw diet, which is not recommended by all vets due to immune system suppression, but the GP is now a year+ past the typical date for survival for this situation and seems to be doing well. The GP is slowing down, but we have no idea how old she is as daughter found her abandoned in a nearby park 7 or 8 years ago.
2. I've had my French Bulldogs on a half raw diet for years, they get reconstitutes freeze dried in the AM and raw (thawed frozen) at night. The two that I lost this summer were 13 and 14 years old so that seems rather healthy to me. Conor T Hrothgar seems to thrive on this diet and I doubt I will change it, but I admit this is anecdotal, not scientific, commentary.
3. We did lose one other FB to cancer at an early age, I think about 8 years old, and he was on this diet as well. So YMMV.

Every single time I see one I want to rescue there are
more ahead of me, plus I have no Vet, etc because our
last pet, a cat, died in 1995 within days of quack vet saying she was fine.

62 Ooohhh...cool furbabies this week!!
Only thing keeping me from spinning off into a million tiny pieces right now is my darling, doofy Cheyenne. Had some moderately major surgery last week, got a 12 inch incision and 24 staples in my stomach where they removed my gallbladder and one of my adrenal glands and I suddenly have developed raging anixiety/panic/you name it attacks. Spent the two days I was in the hospital worrying about missing work and missing overtime and who was gonna take care of my dog??? Irrational. Anyway, got home, and my dear, ditzy, snooter-nozed yellow lab has it all under control.

21! Bionic kitteh! That's really old. When I was a younger lass, we had a Siamese who lived to be 21. He was nothing but a skeleton with some fur on it by the time he crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

83 Huh. Today I purchased some flea and mosquito treatment for the kittehs in preparation for an impending road trip. I saw "Sentry PurrScriptions Plus" at PetSmart and thought, "Hey! $5/treatment! Not bad!" Thankfully, I read the online reviews before applying it as they are incredibly bad. No way am I putting this crap on my cats; it's going back to PetSmart.

90 At the end of that video with the little girl getting a kitteh for Christmas "I have a cat!" - did anyone else think of the "talking" dog video where the dog wanted a cat?

Posted by: Miley, the Duchess at January 21, 2017 04:26 PM (tHwdc)

91 What an adorable looking group! For Christmas dressup, we always had jingle collars for the dogs. It is really odd that they really liked them, jumping around when they saw them and eager to put them on. Still can't figure out why dogs with sensitive hearing would enjoy that so much. Of course, if you took off their collar they would go and hide -- maybe they thought they were naked.

Cats can be a little more deceptive though. Sometimes, it's "I'm relaxed and comfortable and amenable to tummy rubs". Sometimes, it's "all of my claws are now available to demolish your hand". Sometimes, it's both.

Lucy looks like Blue Merle I used to have named "Merle". What a bundle of energy. I wished I had some sheep for him to chase. Ended up giving him to some folks with a farm. He didn't get along with Boris the German Shepherd.

112 Greyhounds are sensitive, quiet, loving, intelligent, dorkey, shy, easygoing, blazing fast dogs that will steal your heart and your couch. They need supervision constantly when they come from the track until they learn manners. If you can get one as a puppy they are very easy to train. Greyhounds may be my favorite breed well beside German Shepard dogs. I love my greyhound.

No problem. From my admittedly limited study, it sure seems like raw more closely mimics the natural meat, bone, and organ meat dog diet in the wild with little or no grain filler. All my dogs seemed to have little to no digestive problems either, so I think it's worth a try.

Not that I'm selling anything but the frozen brand I use is "Stella and Chewy's" and they have a variety of meats, but I'm sure there are other reputable brands.

That gets to be a bit of a trick, but, for example, Stella & Chewy's offers three sizes of patty (about 0.5 oz, 1.5 oz and 6 oz) so it's pretty easy to find a easily workable size for smaller dogs. Daughter buys 16 oz packs, but she's got two big dogs!

If you can find either a real butcher shop (one that caters to the restaurant trade for example) they can supply bones, and a good pet store often will stock frozen raw bones , not that meaty usually but with yummy marrow (Conor approved if that matters)!
