Former President George Bush (41) In Intensive Care; Wife Also Admitted to Hospital?

A few days ago, the Elder Bush wrote a letter to Trump stating that he would not be attending the inauguration, as the trip could put him "six feet under," according to his doctor.

Well apparently he was not exaggerating about being in poor health. He was just put into ICU, and his wife was admitted herself as a precaution.

A spokesman for former President George H.W. Bush says Bush has been admitted to the intensive care unit at Houston's Methodist Hospital to address a respiratory problem from pneumonia.

Spokesman Jim McGrath says Bush's wife, Barbara Bush, also has been hospitalized as a precaution after experiencing fatigue and coughing.

McGrath says the 92-year-old former president was placed under sedation for a procedure to protect and clear his airway. He is stable and resting comfortably. He has been in the hospital since Saturday.

Barbara Bush is 91. The couple marked their 72nd wedding anniversary on Jan. 6.

15 When GHWB was healthier, he and Barbara would, on occasion, visit the Federal Jack's brewpub in Kennebunkport. I saw them there one Saturday afternoon while I was riding and, after a little hesitation (and a couple of shots of Dutch courage), went over and shook his hand.

He was very gracious, as you'd expect. Babs glared at me as though I was something she'd just scraped off the sole of her Lily Pulitzers.

16 I have lots of respect for GHWB regardless.

Just an aside, last time the CIA went to war with a President (W) he named their HQ the George Bush Center for Intelligence. Because HW was head of the CIA back in the day.

But the sign on the road doesn't say GHWB, it says George Bush.

Thumb. Eye. Some assembly required.

But that was Bushian gentleman horseplay.

Trump will raze that place and build the Trump Towering Intelligence Center on top.

And it will be fabulous.

97 I'd feel a lot less resentful towards the Bush family if the Republican party didn't keep trying to push the family down our throats.

They were both Republican Presidents, but not great Republican Presidents. That's enough to earn my respect and best wishes after they're done in the office, but not enough for me to be clamoring to elect another one.

139 Some believe that it was mishandling of discussions by Bush 41's Iraqi ambassador April Glaspie that led to the first Gulf War. No - what they are are throwbacks. Very civic minded upper crust WASPs, the old fashioned country club Rockefeller Republicans that used to populate the tonier regions of the NE. They are relics, because now the trust fund kids and grandchildren still go to the Ivies and live in places like Westport CT - but now they are leftists.

The old WASP Establishment ran the country and much of the country's institutions up until the 60's - and as snobbish and bigoted as that bunch could be, they had far more class that the motley crew that made up the Obama administration.

They're moderate to the bone. Might have been fine once, but it's ineffectual and toothless today.

Just a point of fact, and I'm sure alot of folks know this but anybody who is anybody already has their obit written. Newspapers assign reporters to write obits for famous celebrities, criminals, athletes politicians, etc., anybody of note, so that they are ready to go if said person passes away.
These obits are constantly re-written and updated as the person's career and achievements progress. This tedious, unsung job is traditionally given to junior staff at the big newspapers, and it is commonly one of the first jobs a new cub reporter gets to do./cliff claven mode off

Which is why I've amassed my army on their border with the obvious intent of invading.

Same here in S. Georgia. Cold one week, in the 70's the next.

Our church just held a house warming for our secretary whose home was destroyed by a tornado during T.S. Hermoine. She and her husband had just finished remodeling it and paying off their mortgage. Anyway, we threw a lovely party and gifted them gift cards and cash to at least partially replace the belongings they lost.

We're *still* cleaning up downed trees from Hurricane Matthew.

What an end to the final year of the Age of Obama.

In the 228 years that America has been governed by the Constitution,
no President or Vice President has ever been sworn in by an African
American Supreme Court Justice.
That will all change on Friday when Justice Clarence Thomas administers The Oath of Office to Vice President-elect Mike Pence.
To make an already historic event even more unique, Pence will be the first elected official to be sworn in on the Reagan Family Bible since the latepresidentused it during his own inaugurations.

I'm not surprised. I've mentioned the book What It Takes here before, and in the section on George H.W. Bush the author spends a lot of time talking about their ENORMOUS rolodex filled with the names of thousands and thousands of people.
