1 Good morning Morons. Today is Sunday, January 15, 2017. Just woke up so don't have much. On this day in 1870 Thomas Nast gave us a jackass to symbolize the Democrat party.

3 Some Republicans in congress want to stop the ATF from excessively regulating silencers. Keep in mind that the ATF did this on their own with no new legislation. They did a LOT of that during the Obama years. I note that the MFM is calling these anti-silencer rules a law. They are not. They are a pure regulatory invention. The ATF can categorize anything they want as a level III weapon with no new laws. Such is the rules the Democrats have sneaked in.

Be glad you don't have my method of dieting. I have lost about 10 pounds in the past month. Mostly from enforced "fasting" for various doctor ordered "fasting" for a myriad of stupid tests. My blood pressure got so low one of my doctors ordered me to DC the clopidogrel (Plavix).

If I understand correctly, Ringling Bros. just caved instead of telling them to fuck off. I can understand pressure in dealing with lawsuits and PR, but it's your livelihood and a longstanding, beloved American institution that is at stake. You fight. And you fight back like Trump does. What most people don't realize is that the institutional Left, powerful as they seem to be is still in the minority. The media makes one believe otherwise, and it certainly helps when the entire government under Obama will stomp you like a bug, but the coming of Trump (and the conditions that have fostered his rise, more importantly) is reversing all that. Maybe too late for Ringling Bros. but hopefully others will take notice.

It's always good to see you. I've enjoyed your selective eyes on the elbows you post. It dispels any notion that the 19102-1920s were culturally innocent, like a person's great grandmother can never be a virgin.

I have plenty of reading material to help with sleep. Do you want a steer to a book on military logistics? And I have plenty of eye-glazing Chemistry texts, including papers I wrote.

And I have a button for writing.
"I'm the writer, that's why! "

Writing is never easy. I've done my bit of "Stare at the paper until blood forms." Well, good luck, and just start typing. That's how I power through my blocks.

40 OK, nice hot cup of tea at my side.

This is Jacqueline Forzane (sorry I can't make the pic any larger):

http://tinyurl.com/zqpe4p7

Born in Paris in 1891, she was, as Sir Cecil Beaton described her, "the last of the pre-1914 war cocottes, who walked with her hips thrust forward and one foot always trailing."

She's known best, according to IMDB, for the 1926 French film Nana, an adaptation of the Zola novel, but a bing search turns up more pictures of the film's female star, the lovely Catherine Hessling:

http://tinyurl.com/j5cywvj

- who, wiki says, was the first wife of director Jean Renoir.

According to the dictionary, a cocotte, besides being a sort of cooking pot, is also slang for "prostitute" as well as a child's nickname for "little hen," so in the sense of "chicken," "sweetie" or "darling" is what Beaton must have meant.

Keep in mind that that Fox article was written by AP and they are liberal scumbags who are not telling the whole story. Those "animal rights" assholes are doing a lot of damage via hidden methods. When was the last time you saw a circus parade go through town? We used to have one every fall. I haven't seen one now for over 50 years. Towns will no longer allow them citing "traffic". What they don't say is behind the scenes political pressure. And all of that crap is what contributes to the "high operating costs" they talk about.

I also wonder how much of that is due to unions. Remember they do most of their moving via trains and that means unions.

46 I saw your comment, NaCly Dog, but we'd been willowed before I could respond.

Here's my problem with the new book, called, for the nonce, The Stuff Dreams Are Made Of: I have nearly an entire book already written, but nothing is gelling into a plot - there are events and scenes, but the plot itself meanders everywhere and ultimately goes nowhere (shades of George Harrison's "If you don't know where you're going / Any road will take you there"

The book takes place in 1917. Theda Bara is one of the biggest movie stars in the world and is shooting Cleopatra, a box-office blockbuster and the movie she has wanted her whole life.

During a press conference for the film, a prop mummy case is opened and a dead girl dressed as Cleopatra falls out. That's the "hook" that ends chapter 1.

I've written about the girl's family blaming Bara for the death, I've got a shadowy religious cult that wants to blow every studio in Hollywood sky-high, I've got desperate women offering sex for even the smallest part in a movie, a prostitution ring out of a fancy hotel, even a final confrontation with the villain / villains as the set of Intolerance{/]:

http://tinyurl.com/j8yabcq

- burns down around them.

But I can't arrange it into a plot. I wish I could just write a synopsis of every chapter I've written, send it to someone and say, "give me a plot." Then I know I could take it all and write it out and be done. I sometimes think I should ask Anna Puma, but I know she's very busy with her own writing.

And also, it's a lot of work to ask someone to do for no real reward - although at this point, I'd pay for a decent plot.

Anyway, that's my problem at the moment. Well, that and my chronic alcoholism and pointless, joyless fapping, but mainly the writing.

What used to "piss" me off is there are only two industries who are required by federal law to undergo ransom drug testing. Transportation workers (trains and buses only) and nuclear workers. And transportation workers are required to have a "for cause" test immediately after any accident regardless of whose fault it was.

My wife's women's club (sponsored by the local COC) was on a day trip to a winery in NC when some Tom Fool ran a stop sign and T-Boned the bus they were in. Nobody was hurt but the bus had to sit by the side of the road for hours while they hunted down a new driver so the one who was driving the bus when the idiot ran the stop sign could be carried in to do mandatory drug testing.

Liberal led violence at the inauguration could be a turning point in our national discourse.

90 OK, the sun is streaming through the music room window, so I think I shall sign off and get some breakfast. One last woman, the Edwardian actress Lily Elsie, best known for portraying the title character in the 1907 London premiere of Lehar's The Merry Widow:

http://tinyurl.com/h4bx4h2

Her costumes were designed by "Lucille," the pseudonym of Lady Duff-Gordon, best known now as a passenger on the Titanic. According to wiki, Elsie was a smash success, both as an actress and image, in Widow but remained aloof to her many admirers, as Lucille said: "She was absolutely indifferent to most [men], for she once told me she disliked the male character and considered that men only behaved tolerably to a woman who treated them coldly."

Shades of Keats' La Belle Dame sans Merci!

Here she is in a Widow costume:

MP4,

I'm sure you know this already but a lot of mystery writers start a book more or less as you've done.

A beginning, an end, and some set pieces in between.

Several including PD James, I think, then work backwards from the end.

Though I don't write that way myself, apparently that allows you to stitch everything neatly into place and kind of automatically back fill the plot.

109 Here's your thought for the day.

If a man did something noble once, does that means everything he does or states for the rest of his life Beyond reproach?

Of course not and no man is infallible.

This is of course the diversion the media and People like Sasse are playing fast and loose with.

What Lewis said was wrong and demonstrably so. Trump was duly elected according to our Constitution. The fallacious idea that somehow Russian influence or hacking is responsible for his win is not substantiated in any material way.

But as usual because the lie comports with liberal philosophy or the blind hate of people like Sasse it gets life.

It's actually disgraceful and the work of weak, partisan political minds. It's also proof these people are nothing they atate they are.

By the way, Trump should really use more discretion with his Tweets. Most people wouldn't care one lick what a proven partisan hack like Lewis states. Yet he gives it life with his attention.

The power of the presidency lies not only in what he states, but what he doesn't state or recognize. Who else could give the fallacious lies of Lewis so much play? The answer is nobody.

I think it's beginning to shift.

People are beginning to more freely and spontaneously voice their opposition and disgust at the actions of these tantrum throwing children.

For many years after the fall of the Soviet Union, we would travel up the black sea in August as part of the U.S. Sixth Fleet exercises and diplomatic outreach effort.

And I liken what we are seeing now in no small part to the same thing which we saw there.

As the oppressive silencing effect, and the danger of real physical repercussion for having thoughts of freedom and liberty receded, people slowly began to realize that it was OK to voice a contrary opinion.

I've got to disagree, MT. Bush ignored the attacks for eight years, and where did it get us? And as far as giving these fallacious lies play, the media would definitely do so regardless of whether or not there was a response.

Trump does shoot from the hip a bit too often, but I'm willing to accept that peccadillo because of the great satisfaction I get from having someone with a microphone finally hit back. Venting our frustrations on conservative leaning websites is mildly cathartic, but having someone actually strike back and having those blows land is exhilarating.

150 Understand I'm not saying ignore all of the statements. The ability to reach people directly is disenfranchising the media and provides a powerful communication tool that challenges their propaganda.

But it is also about the message and the words. If you first accept that the social media has power and is a useful tool, than you use that tool in its most productive way.

Lewis didn't rise to the level of requiring that tool. Nobody really cares what he states except his acolytes and people who are simply looking for something to keep their fallacies relevant.

That money people would have spent at Ringling seeing animals abused can now be spent feeding the homeless. Or if you really need some live entertainment for the kids you can go see interpretative dance. Or the Vagina Monologues.

177 I never saw a circus parade in my life. What we did have, though, was a "secret" one, every year. Barnum and Bailey's train had to pull into a secluded yard, way out past the city limits, and offload onto small trucks to get to the big exhibit hall downtown. Sad. But, they didn't have the means to do that with the elephants, and so, at an undisclosed off-traffic time, they would walk them in, a distance of several miles.

You cannot keep elephants a secret. Word would leak out, every time, and thousands of people would bring lawn chairs and set them out along the route, with their kids and grandkids and hot dog grills and coolers. And once in a while some wag would show up with a boombox and a tape of "Entry of The Gladiators" and "Barnum and Bailey's Favorite," because it is so sad to watch elephants without music. They moved them along pretty briskly, no stops for tricks, but it still was, if not The Greatest Show on Earth, at the very least, The Damnedest Thing You Ever Saw.

I was managing a delivery service at the time, and it befell me to give a safety talk on Circus Morning, outlining the detours and delays. I obtained a top hat for the purpose, and would step to the middle of our workroom floor, and use my Big Outside Voice. "Ladies and Gentlemen, Children of All Ages, Direct Your Attention to The Center Ring." Oh god it was fun.

Life and a late start got in the way of taking it further. Still, I wouldn't trade the few accomplishments and the people I got to know for anything.

=====

I always tell the story of a little circus that came to our little town and still used elephants to set the tentpoles. There must have been 50 old guys and a few kids to watch how they did it. I am 60 and still remember that.

One of my favorite poems is by DH Lawrence: 'The Elephant is Slow to Mate' -- just beautiful. Notorious for his 'sex books', but I really think he is underestimated as a writer and poet.

Yeah right. Obama's sons & daughters are conspiring to make it anything but peaceful and they have the tacit approval of their papa.

Posted by: Guam tipper at January 15, 2017 08:38 AM (1UAiu)

Really? I've been around long enough to have seen many, many of these "transitions" over the years, going back to 1960 (that I can remember). Yet this one is the very first one I have ever seen where the outgoing president, and the media, have felt the need to mention, repeatedly, that the country is having a "peaceful transition of power".

Always before, from Eisenhower onward, it was always just "here's the new guy being sworn in, it's done, we go on". It was never even necessary to mention a "peaceful transition of power", so as to make it sound as if this country was some kind of Third World shithole of a banana republic, and there was something novel about the country having chosen a new head of state. But it is not. This nation has been doing this, purely as a matter of routine, for the past 240-odd years.

But THIS time, for the FIRST time, it is somehow different. They keep talking about this "peaceful" transition. And to me, there is an implied threat, for the first time in this nation's history, that the swearing in of a new president is something other than the simple matter of routine it has been all these years.

The real implication here, direct from the Commie Cocksucker in Chief, Obama, is that if he could figure out how to do it, he would not surrender the power of the presidency, would proclaim himself "President for Life", just like every other socialist dictator in the world's history has done. Of this I have no doubt. And the creepiest part of it is that half the damned population would probably go along with it, the resulting secret police and concentration camps that would come with it notwithstanding.

The trick bra is to say to yourself every day "get exercise TODAY....go to the gym TODAY" or do whatever you have to do.

Say to yourself over and over again "just giterdone"

Then, after you work out, you have met your goal for that day and you can say to yourself, "be back tomorrow...be back tomorrow is all you have to do."

This way, you lighten your ambition load and sooner than you think you will discover that a month has gone by along with 10 lbs.
