21 I got to Chapter 5 just in time to willow myself. So, this.

I reckon we'll work out the historicity/historiography of this approach
on the ONT. First thing I'll note is, you can see and feel just how
often during that evening the major commentators and organizations were
toying with you -- withholding results they had, or just plain
misreporting. OK, we here already "knew" that this went on. Point is,
this "You Were There" routing really helps point it out, and could be
useful in cases where you didn't already know.

Second, you'll see
in our remembrances that almost all of us watched these things alone,
or with one other person. Not even the family gathered around the TV or
table radio set you see in old civics books. Now imagine for a moment
politics before broadcast, when you waited for the latest edition of the
paper, or sat around the telegraph terminal (or nearest bar) waiting
for news to come in -- and then discussed it, not through your keyboard
with chosen friends, but on the street, in the square, with whoever was
there.

That was, pretty much, the world of the Kennedy/Nixon
election, and every one before it. And it's a much different taste and
feel than we have now. Now if you want the taste of bloody teeth and the
feel of knobs on the skull, you have to go out and find it. I won't say
which is more "honest" a political experience, but this exercise sure
does point up the contrast.

67 Baby Sister Update

They met with oncologist this morning. Hubby is *very* impressed with him, knows his stuff, good resource, involved. This was reassuring (as close as I've ever heard him come to gushing). They'll meet with the whole team early next week, and then look to begin chemo and radiation first part of February (there's some prep-work for the radiation).

Two less great things: first, the doc told them that there's sometimes a bit of a speedbump between the meds the insurance (BX of FL), but that they're aware of this and have strategies and processes to deal with it, so not overly concerned, just full disclosure. Second, she's still aphasic (sp?), trouble walking, etc. Hopeful that treatment may help with this. They *did* up her steroids a but doesn't seem to be helping much.

Oh! I *did* get to speak with Joyce for a few minutes. Her tone was very chipper, but she really couldn't speak more than "yes" and "thank you." Still good to hear her voice, though.

As always, prayers most welcome.

Trump's victory will be remembered as one of the earliest snowballs rolling down the hill in the avalanche that stopped collectivist Internationalism from sneaking back in under the aegis of modern globalism, aided by a once-free press that has whored itself out and abandoned the quest for truth in exchange for a seat a the kiddie table in the new regime.

Brexit was another snowball, but not the only other: Roussef was impeached in Brazil, and many other South and Central American nations have had electoral upsets that have dented, damaged, and driven back the globalists. And now Le Pen is leading in France.

When the histories are being written, many years from now, this may be remembered as one of the finest hours of the Western democracies, republics, and limited monarchies.

84 I think a lot of the anger in this country-- not liberal political anger, day to day anger-- is going to be gone, or at least reduced.

I've noticed anecdotally at the occasionally low brow places I visit like Walmart, that people are... polite again. During the holidays, it was suddenly OK to be Christian again, and say Merry Christmas.

Hopefully, hating on whitey is going out of style.

In fact, I hope that hating on anyone because of their skin color is permanently out of style.

1. I was expecting we'd lose, but felt strangely at peace with it. (I figured Hillary would be a slight improvement over TFG, and that, really, we'd known the country was gone since 2012.)

2. Then somebody here posted a link to the NYT's throbbing Trump-o-meter. I think it was at 54% the first time I checked.

3. And that thing just kept rising, rising, rising, majestically into the night sky.

What a beautiful sight.

157 Lots of angry white people, basically.

That is entirely false. I didn't attend Trump rallies (he did not come to Utah) but watched many of them on Right Side Broadcasting which (unlike the MFM actually scanned the crowds) and they were NOT angry, not in the least. They were, um what word do I want, enthusiastic, that's it. Wildly enthusiastic. That's what made me believe Trump would win. He touched the nerves of millions of ordinary patriotic Americans who were fed up with everything that had been done to them by both parties. And, oh yes, there were some people of color there, too. And lots of women holding up pink Trump signs. Not the story we were being told by the MFM.

446 It is stupefying to see that so many people believe that Russian intelligence gathered evidence of corruption in order to manipulate an election rather than to manipulat a shoe-in president.

It is also stupefying to see that so many people think they have everyone fooled into believing that they really give a fuck about the political opinions of people who are lacking the skills and wherewithal necessary to get a driver's license or a state ID.

I know I don't. I mean, really, how in the fuck can anyone justify ensuring that the political opinions of a 21st century American who is incapable of getting a fucking ID be expressed in the voting booth?

448 Man, I would love to see President Trump hang California and Illinois out to dry on their debts.

You know what happens if a state defaults on its debts? It's no longer a state! It reverts to territory status.

This means it has no congressional delegation and is worth 0 electoral votes.

Just think of what could be accomplished with no Representatives or Senators from those two states, in addition to the effect on Presidential elections from them not getting a say. This would also have an effect on other blue states, where they'd have to get their finances in order or end up going the same way.

I was just reading. They flew Trump and the clan to Washington today on an official govt. plane, a Boeing C-32, which is a modified 757-200, and they are used for "Air Force 2", and to carry the Sec of State and First Lady when she flies solo. They also it for an Air Force One, when the runaway is too short for the big VC-25s.

I think that's the first time they flown on a official plane, and I'm wondering what the protocol is. Trump Force One was on the tarmac at LaGuardia as well.

526 Have just been reading all of Ace's election threads, and again rejoicing that we dodged a bullet by electing Donald Trump. I had to work on election night, but I kept a tab with Fox News open on my computer the whole time. I remember the warm glow I started getting around midnight, when I thought to myself, "He just might pull it off!" and the relief when Trump finally won. I say "relief" because I was definitely more relieved over Hillary's defeat than the Donald's victory. But over the last couple of months, as I've seen and heard Trump preparing for his presidency, I found myself thinking all over again "He just might do it!" So I'm facing the future hoping that President Trump will stick to most, if not all, of his campaign promises in the weeks and months ahead.

I didn't see this among the election videos, but it's definitely worth watching: Ed Schultz on RT America ripping Hillary Clinton a new orifice when she didn't speak to her supporters at the Javits Center. I watched the whole thing on RT America; Ed ranted for almost 30 minutes about this non-event, but the video captures him at the peak of his indignation:

529 177 And I love the new flaming skull with the Trump hair, and Ace's round up too. Didn't get to tell him that.

On another note, I'm not a political analyst, but don't you think somebody of Hillary's campaign would have figured out that she needed to visit WI?. Did she ever visit it? Part of the reason Trump won is because he didn't seem to take anyone for granted, Politics seems to be rather like a romance. People LIKE Being paid attention to and appreciated. After being married several times and having numerous girlfriends that would seem to be one of the things Trump knows about-romance.
Posted by: FenelonSpoke at January 19, 2017 11:17 PM (tOcW/)

Hillary could never visit every state that she needed to because she was wanted to sleep in her bed every night, so she could only do a couple of rallies per day.

Trump on the other hand, seemed to get energized by doing more and more rallies, and the travel didn't seem to bother him one bit.

I guess the "not drinking" part kept him hydrated while Hillary knocking back caused her to become dehydrated.

548 Shibumi, I agree about Mrs. Pence's dress. Will have to "up her game" considerably. She's moving into a world where everything she does, says, and wears will be subject to criticism. No need to give our enemies anything extra to snark about. She has a sweet, kind face, and could look really good, does not have to try to be a "fashion icon."

Can't wait for tomorrow. Hate that I couldn't get out today to buy some champagne.

I'm right there with you. I once registered and voted as a Democrat. Two things changed that...forever. The first was the ENTIRE elected party pretending that ALL married men cheat (in their defense and vote against impeachment of Clinton). The second was the ENTIRE MSM rushing to the airwaves to "warn" the rest of us not to "jump to conclusions" about those that perpetrated 9/11.

The last 8 years have been a travesty. ANYONE over the age of 30 that supported Clinton is an EVIL person. ANYONE over the age of 30 that supported Sanders is STUPID, and a PUSSY as well, since they rolled over quietly when THEIR OWN PARTY screwed him out of equal footing in the battle for the enemy parties nomination.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.

567 DynamiteDan, thanks for that video clip.

Shultz is generally an idiot that I've avoided, but in this case he spoke for most people, I would think.

When Podesta came out to give his amazing remarks, I was stunned - a presidential election night, with an outcome that was clear, and the candidate doesn't address their supporters at their HQ? WTF?

"Historic" and "unprecedented" are words that come to mind.

And it got worse. I forget how long, but it was only a few minutes until it was reported that Hillary (or someone in her entourage) had called Trump to concede.

The Clintons have always been low-class, talentless, stupid grifters - at best - but she managed to send them out with a flourish of classless behavior never before seen at that level.

Enjoy and savor this victory, it has been earned by the sweat of your brow, the grinding of shoe leather on countless miles of pavement and concrete and the countless calls, emails, tweets and texts.

Now is a time to celebrate!

625 Fenelon, you'll be happy to hear he and Pence and families attend a service at the Episcopal church, I think the one on Lafayette Park. Then it's tea with the Obamas at the WH. Then everyone rides together to the Capitol, where the ceremonies/speeches ensue (Pence first). Then the parade back the other direction.

St. John's Episcopal, very near the WH.
It is the church most president-elects have gone to before their inauguration, but some have gone elsewhere. Eisenhower went to a Presbyterian church, Carter to a Baptist one, Kennedy to a Catholic one.

I don't know if that's where Trump will go.
Given that the rector is a left-wing loon, I hope not.

Meant to mention earlier that it is the anniversary of James Watt's birth. Was reminded when you spoke of a steam loco on an earlier thread.

Kipling wrote a poem about a mariner steam engineer. 'McAndrews Hymn'. Too long to put here in it's entirety, but an excerpt:

Lord, Thou hast made this world below the shadow of a dream,
An', taught by time, I tak' it so - exceptin' always Steam.
From coupler-flange to spindle-guide I see Thy Hand, O God -
Predestination in the stride o' yon connectin'-rod.
John Calvin might ha' forged the same - enorrmous, certain, slow -
Ay, wrought it in the furnace-flame - my "Institutio."
I cannot get my sleep to-night; old bones are hard to please;
I'll stand the middle watch up here - alone wi' God an' these
My engines, after ninety days o' race an' rack an' strain
Through all the seas of all Thy world, slam-bangin' home again.
Slam-bang too much - they knock a wee - the crosshead-gibs are loose;
But thirty thousand mile o' sea has gied them fair excuse....
Fine, clear an' dark - a full-draught breeze, wi' Ushant out o' sight,
An' Ferguson relievin' Hay. Old girl, ye'll walk to-night!
