There's a few albums from the 1980s I had on the original vinyl. One of 'em was "Boston, Mass" by the Del Fuegos.
Fantastic album, especially the opening track "Don't Run Wild," and the LP also always seemed especially well-mastered.

I got the Les Paul, but not a tube amp.
I bought a Fender Mustang II V2, not a tube amp, a combo module(?). It's pretty technologically beyond me, but I'll do some research tomorrow and figure out how to work it.
Today I basically plugged in the guitar and played while changing some of the presets to see how they sounded. I was pretty stoked.

The weather has been awesome here. Mid 70s yesterday; me and a good friend went golfing for 27 holes, my first 27 hole round in 20 years, in honor of it. We got so drunk he fell down on the 25th hole and sprained his wrist; I refused to give any extra strokes. As I saw it, he had *4* wrists.
And I'm playing another round tomorrow. Highs in the mid 70s once again.

I believe the lead singer (Mike?) now hosts an addiction show on local radio here in Boston, after substance abuse issues in the 80s. Show is on on weekend afternoons, though I have not heard it in a while. He also runs what sounds like a halfway house for addicts with an artistic,music bent. Sounds like a pretty good guy but a huge lib (what is the government going to DO?)
I had that album, loved "Don't Run Wild" they were huge here back in the day. Now if anyone can just dig up vinyl copies of "Life Sucks" by the Fools, "88 Lines About 44 Women" by the Nails and the album Sanctuary by J Geils Band.....

I wanted to share some good news I unexpectedly got a couple of days ago when I was told "the boss wants to see you in his office". Yeah, I know "good news" and the boss wanting to see you don't normally go together.
The boss told me to sit down...then he handed me a check. He said, "this is for the hard work you do around here. I wish it could have been more."
That was nice, but what really got to me was that the bonus I got...was supposed to be his. He sells advertising like almost everyone else here except me, and instead of keeping it, he gave it to me.
It came in handy as it allowed me to get some groceries and provisions in anticipation of the potential Icemageddon. Divine intervention? Your mileage may vary, but I think it was.

The weather has been awesome here. Mid 70s yesterday; me and a good friend went golfing for 27 holes, my first 27 hole round in 20 years, in honor of it. We got so drunk he fell down on the 25th hole and sprained his wrist; I refused to give any extra strokes. As I saw it, he had *4* wrists.
And I'm playing another round tomorrow. Highs in the mid 70s once again.

If you just buy the cornmeal it's cheaper. And baked in a cast iron skillet.
You can take a few tablespoons of butter to melt over the whole pan when you pull it out of the oven. Then add MOAR BUTTER.

Warren Haynes is amazing. I remember seeing a show where he was headlining, and the opening act was called something like "5 guys names Moe." I think they abbreviated that somehow. Anyway, all their songs were about the same, sort of building in the same way, not quite finding the groove, but frenetically iterating as though it were there somehow. Then Warren came out to play with them, hitting the chords of "Feelin' Allright" and turned them into an amazing band. It was every bit as good as the legendary SNL Stuff/Joe Cocker rendition, maybe somewhat better.

I say this as someone who has always loved their music, but also likes heavy metal.
Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship was at its best as a band, IMO, when they became Jefferson Starship and finally allowed their founder Marty Balin to have some control over their direction. That dude could work some serious magic with a soft love ballad!

I used to know a lot of Stanulaus Karrtekkoveev or how ever they spelled their names who were in the Import/Export business. Whatever the hell that is. They used to buy used American cars and equipment and ship them to Finland for what I never figured out but they made tons of cash. Cheap bastards too....would fight you for a nickel out in the street. They all looked like young Santa...blonde, kinda fat and bearded. All the wives had that hard lesbian look, skinny with cropped hair and bad teeth. Anyways, this was in Lantana, Florida which is a shit hole but is full of Finns and no one knows why. Their big thing was to have dances at the Finnish Hall and boast about how they kicked Russia's ass in 1940. Old black and white pictures in the dance hall of all the Finnish Army heroes all looking unhappy and cold and lots of dead Russians sprinkled in. Finns sounds a lot like Japs when they talk in that you can't make out any of it, it's real sing song shit. Anyways, Finland is a strange land full of strange people but in a good way.

Completely. He's a quintessential band member. They say that there are around 100 guitarists who could be recognized in their style in a very short time. I'm sure you could name a lot of them, and most people could. Jimi, Prince, Eddie, Jerry, and so on. I remember switching channels back when music was on television and hearing three seconds of a song I'd never heard, and knowing that this was one of those guitarists (it was John Fogarty). Warren is not one of those. But he's a player whose presence can make a band that would seem like so much less without him.

I don't think they ever pinned down a drummer for long term...Dave Bromburg and Pap John also played with them.

They originally signed with Shel Talmy, but soon soured of him. Unfortunately, they were stuck in a contract and had to go through quite a bit of legal wrangling. (This is when the song "A Legal Mater" was written by Pete, although in songs case, it's written about a fictitious canceled marriage)
In the settlement, Talmy ended up getting a very large chunk of the next several albums (Including Tommy and Who's Next), without having to lift a finger.

Jack Kasady (bass), Jorma Kokonen (guitar), and Spencer Dryden (drummer) split off from the more talented half of Marty Balin, Grace Slick and Paul Kantner. As Airplane, they let Jorma do some of his own songs. They always sucked, so I never listened to Hot Tuna. They did their best as supporting cast members on After Bathing at Baxters, and Volunteers.

They came within an ace of not even being a band at all. Iommi showed up at Ozzy's house with Bill Ward, because of a flyer Ozzy had put up in a music store offering to do vocals (and he had his own PA system). He'd known Ozzy from school, and didn't care for him, They turned to leave when Ozzy happened to mention that Iommi's fingertips were missing from his left hand (cut off in accident in his last day of work with a sheet metal bender). So they ended up talking some more, and decided to give it a go. Ozzy was friends with Butler, who at the time was playing rhythm guitar, but they asked him to switch to bass and he turned out to be an excellent bass player.

Last summer, when "The Revenge of Vera Gemini" came on the radio, I actually drove around the block a couple of times until the song was over. I had completely forgotten that song, and again, it's not one you hear on the radio that much.
It's an irritating thing - so many good songs from the '60's and '70's that they never play around here and yet it seems like "More than a feeling" and "Hotel California" are playing every damn time I turn on the radio.

He brought his band together to show off the new style of playing that he'd discovered, and they decided that they could indeed work with it.
That's how heavy metal was invented.

I think Firearms Unknown must be an offshoot/side-effect/former people from Ares Armor, an 80% lower AR pioneer that got into it with the ATF (don't know the merits on that one). I heard a radio ad for them today, while reloading (my, how evil, and scary, is that?). Ares had internal turmoil and a break-up of some sort.
One day before that, on my range duty day, two guys came in and wanted to open a small pistol range just to function-test ARs. So I went with them and the senior guy shot 3 rounds through about 40 ARs of various configurations. Got his card, but I think the original outfit is defunct after the falling out, and he is probably one of the fall-ees.

So, as a public service to any ONT lurkers looking to buy their first firearm, here is whig's solid advice:
"For those of you new shooters looking to get firearms, a bit of advice.
Try to find a range that both gives basic firearm familiarization and rents different handguns to try. Handguns are better than they used to be but to accurately shoot and handle one, it needs to fit your hand in a specific way. A handgun that does not fit your hands results in problems in accuracy and control or in basic operation of the handgun.
Next, figure out do you want an all purpose home and carry outside of the home firearm? Do you want a different firearm for carry versus home?
Third, stick to a boring reputable brand--Glocks, Smith and Wessons, Rugers, Sig Sauer, Springfield XD's, all produce reasonably priced firearms with decent warranties. Many of these can be acquired in great shape second hand but take someone experienced if you do this or do your homework first.
Beware of the mall ninja, either behind the gun store counter, or online who may recommend expensive, inappropriate, or downright ineffective firearms for your purposes.
I would suggest reading some books by a few of the following trainers--Massad Ayoob, Gun Digest Guide's to Combat Handgunnery, 6th edition among others of his, and John Farnam's books on handguns and longarms. Paxton Quigley has some useful books for women, specifically. If you like revolvers, then check out Grant Cunningham. Gun Digest, in particular, has a large number of instructional books on firearms that are reasonably priced.
Last, realistically determine how much training that you are willing to do and your physical abilities. For most, longarms such as rifles and shotguns are easier for beginners to shoot accurately and operate. Usually, they are also more lethal than many handguns. Handguns though are portable as carrying longarms concealed is impractical.
Guns are no magic talismans to ward off evil, they require a certain amount of training to optimize your chances and to prevent self-injury. Range time on a regular basis is necessary and training by qualified instructors at the beginning can prevent bad habits from forming. Don't leave out learning about the gun laws in your state and locality, particularly those on self defense.
There are a lot of forums around that cater to shooters and almost all are willing to lend a hand to answer questions from new shooters. My personal favorite is The High Road because civility is a big issue there but others have their advantages as well.

Oh, it was bad. He did some really great early stuff with The Bob Seger System ('Come to Poppa' is amazing) but the radio just ruined him in the 80's and 90's. They never play the really old stuff, which is too bad.
In the last ten years or so, he's kind of been replaced by Kid Rock, who is a VERY solid conservative. Plus he's got this hysterical song they actually play here (edited of course) called "You Never Met a MotherF*cker Quite Like Me. "

My family got our first computer sometime in the early 90's. It was just a DOS system, no Windows and no internet. My dad didn't want us to use the Computer on Friday the 13th because he had heard that some programmers might have inserted a virus into computers that if they were run on Friday 13th then it would wipe everything off the computer.

However, use of the lunar calendar appears to go back much deeper in time, and since a lunar month is only 28 days, this gives each year 13 months.
The story is that when the solar calendar, with 12 months was developed and associated with the Sun God Ra, the older method of using a lunar calendar was deemed to be a tool of darkness and evil, and in opposition to the official State Religion. (and to Pharaoh, who was believed to be the incarnation of Ra) This wasn't hard since the 28 day cycle is associated with fertility, and sex, and all kinds of things that go on in the dark. (suggesting that the religious castes then treated sex in about the same way that religious castes today feel about it)
The number 13, as the symbol of the now heretical lunar calendar, became the symbol of evil and darkness. Lending support to this view is the parallel belief that all kinds of nefarious things can happen at any full moon. The moon, and worship of it. became the province of darkness and evil and nasty, dirty sex; worship of the Sun seized the position of Light, and Purity, and Chastity.
Humans being what we are, ever since then the vast majority of us have allowed ourselves to be ruled by the Greater Light by day, but by the Lesser Light at night.

I've seen a bunch of his live shows. They're pretty well put together-- not giant technical extravaganzas, but just the right amount of technology. I highly recommend them.
He's funy in person, and comes across as a really nice guy; the shows actually make you personally like him. He's also VERY supportive of Michigan and the armed services-- at the end of one of his shows to years ago, he brought the guy (Seal? Ranger? I forget) who killed Bin Laden on stage and he got a standing ovation.
/what I'm saying is that I'm pretty sure he can be bathed, shaved and put in grown up clothes and he'd be OK.

They regularly make a last minute "security fee" that the organization putting it on has to pay. They do it last minute and give them limited time to pay it.
Its not a real security fee because as has happened many times the security has been told to not interfere with protesters. Its an effort to have the event cancelled.

I have met a lot of those guys who played on the sessions, including the principals. I appreciate what they did. The harmonies, the chord progressions were very advanced, compare them with boring dreck being churned out by pop bands today, there is no comparison.
