If Mattis thinks the JCPOA provides any useful leverage or any other value - even notwithstanding Iranian violations and the guarangoddangteed refusal of our "allies" to do anything about such violations - his vaunted reading list has let him down.

Any aspect of this policy that is based on "policy" or executive orders can be reversed or altered by Trump. Some aspects of Cuban immigrant policy, I think, are statutory, but obviously if Obama is reducing the special status of Cubans reaching our shores, that's a policy change, not a legislative one.
And Tammy, the thing to remember is - "mass deportation" (that is, deportation, there is no tehnical meaning to "mass") is merely implementing existing (and long-standing) law.
Which should be the entirety of Trump's immigration policy, at the start (along with border barriers and security). There isn't the need for one word from the racist, race-baiting, and idiotic clowns in Congress on this - it's existing, non-controversial law. Just enforce it.
And deportation is not some casual, arbitrary process (surprise!). There's a fairly elaborate process involving several different "defenses" to deportation. And there is zero doubt that wisely targeted enforcement/deportation priorities will have a yuuuuuge effect on the overall situation - illegal migrants, for the most part, are rational actors with options.

I was not making a distinction between good immigrant and bad immigrant. I was making a distinction between legal immigrant and illegal immigrant.
There are plenty of legal immigrants that are not good for this country, IMO, but they're still legal.

Obama's Syrian and ME asylum regime is based on none of these things and simply deciding that every country that sh*ts its own bed due to its following a gutter "religion" pedophiliac death cult like Islam ( that all these "refugees also support AND participate in) can send all its "refugees" here to import their sh*t lifestyle choices is b*llsh*t. Now you can argue we should suspend all entry of refugees ~ but I think many here would disagree with that draconian approach. Refugee policy, like immigration policy, can and should be used judiciously and correctly and should be geographically limited (i.e. neighboring countries in the ME should be taking their neighbor's refugees and perhaps countries in North Africa ~ not us). Similarly, letting every Mexican and Central American simply walk across our southern border and stay here (and receive all the rights and benefits of being american) simply because their own governments are corrupt and inept and they are too lazy to clean up their own mess and force change is likewise retarded ~ but that does not mean we should end al immigration ~ if there is another Einstein ou t their who want to emigrate form some part of the world and share his/her brilliance with us and that person is self sufficient and willing to assimilate into our culture and respect our system of government and culture ~ then : amen brother let `em in. You simply cannot compare our Syrian policy to Cuban policy and vice versa ~ apples and oranges and all that. Anyway ~ Cuban policy excepted, I am certainly willing to discuss ending allowing all ME asylum seekers from coming here for the reasons forestated. And if there ar other areas of the worksd where we are accepting asylum seekers that you wish to discuss ~ then b all means we should discuss it ~ but ending our Cuban policy at this time ~ stoopid, stoopid, stoopid and it was done by Obama to punish American Cubans (for voting against Hillary) and help his pal Castro and does much to prop up that failing regime at a time when it might have toppled of its own weight and now creates a stranger geopolitical foe, allied with Russia and North Korea, 90 miles away. This is stupidity on a dangerous and multinational level.
