FBI IG Announces Investigation into Comey's (and Others') Pre-Election Actions

John Sexton digests the scope of the investigation, and notes that some aspects of the investigation will involve actions by people suspected of being biased in favor of Hillary Clinton. For example, remember the Deputy Director of the FBI who mostly ran the Hillary Clinton probe? And remember that Hillary headlined a fundraiser to raise money for his wife's political run? Yeah, that'll be looked at.

As streiff from Red State notes, however, there is one Big Tell in this investigation: They won't be looking into Loretta Lynch's meeting with Bill Clinton, nor her fuzzy claims about whether she would, or would not, fully recuse herself from any role in deciding whether or not to prosecute her tarmac-buddy's wife.

The Deep State will have its say.

7 Not that any of you need more motivation, but I'm right here going to pull back the curtain a bit to show you what really goes on behind the scenes all the time. This is how the narrative is shaped:

As a so-called "member of the media" (in my real life), I get all sorts of emails blasted out to the media, every day. Most of them are boring or spammy of self-promotional, but some of them provide a glimpse of what happens outside of the public's view. (And I'm just a minor member of the media -- bigger dogs get sheaves of these kind of pitches daily.)

Anyway, every year, the Muslim Students Association (MSA) -- a Muslim Brotherhood affiliate and the most aggressive and media-savvy jihadist group in American academia, in addition to being the best-funded -- holds an annual conference. As occasionally reported at brave right-of-center blogs, what goes on at these conferences is beyond hair-raising: calls for jihad and intifada, spine-chilling anti-Semitism and anti-Americanism, combined with very sophisticated and savvy Alinsky tactics and "progressive" academic terminology.

Once in the past I attended one of these MSA conferences and secretly recorded it, but never published the report because it was the only time I literally feared for my life -- they called me a spy, tried to grab my camera, kicked me out, followed me for miles afterward, trying to see where I lived. (Yes, terrorism works. I self-censored.)

Anyway, totally oblivious that the real-world "'real" me is actually a secret operative they once targeted, the MSA just sent me (and probably ten thousand other journalists in the media database supplied to them by OFA or other leftist groups) the following email. And I guarantee that some journalists are going to take them up on the offer and willingly enter the corrupting embrace of the MSA:

This Sunday, 1/15 at [time redacted] at the MSA West Conference at UC Riverside, I will be hosting a workshop where we will discuss fake news, Islamophobia, and how Muslims and minority populations are presented in the media in addition to strategies to promote our opinions and stories. Maybe deep down he was just trying to do the right thing in a challenging environment, but don't be an FBI Director unless you can handle some blowback from powerful people.

Ultimately, he kept letting Hillary walk and all her staff despite clearly and flagrantly breaking the law.

Maybe Comey didn't cover 100% for her with a little finger wagging, but if you want to know why all of this leaking is going on now is the lesson was learned laws are for the little people.

the only way to put a dent in the attack on the Rule of Law in this country...

Is to put Hillary on Trial...

She broke the Law.... because the Law does not even consider intent when disclosing classified material.... just not safeguarding it enough breaks the law.

When she sent known classified material to people without security clearances, via non secure systems.... she broke the law...

Didn't 90%+ vote for her?

I just like the idea of everyone being investigated, the crimes coming out and underlings being prosecuted and then maybe Trump issues a humiliating pardon in exchange for taking down the Clinton/Soros empire.

But I'm dreaming, Trump will probably just lose interest and nothing will come of it.

No, Ignoramus, there is no reasonable disagreement over this - it's either rule of law or not.

Hillary and her gang's crimes are massive, well-documented, systematic, and brazen. And they engage critical issues: the nation's most sensitive classified information, the integrity of public records for the nation's highest offices, and the integrity *of* those offices in terms of crude bribery and influence-peddling. And the related obstruction of justice activities, AND the misconduct at the FBI, rope the law enforcement system itself into the mix.

Curious inversion you have there. It is precisely the occurrence of these crimes at this level, and the prospect they will not be investigated and punished, that brings the US to the brink of Third World status. Not their investigation and punishment.

They really can't help themselves can they? Everything is about islam winning and gaining advantage

This is why only focusing on terrorism is very shortsighted. It's an all-out assault in the political, media, and immigration realms that terrorism is only one small part of.

For those asking, no, an IG investigation does not constitute a criminal investigation, nor does it prejudice one, should it eventually occur.

But the IG activity announced is an internal one focused on DoJ/FBI activities.

It is normally the case that misconduct on that end is dealt with through firings as opposed to criminal action, though egregious cases may lead to charges.

Comey has to go. And the Senate might consider figuring out a way to confirm only people who are up for their jobs, in terms of intellect and character, as opposed to the Comeys and Roberts types, who end up being just wrecking balls unleashed on important institutions.

114 "No, Ignoramus, there is no reasonable disagreement over this - it's either rule of law or not."

I spilled a lot of ink here about the investigation of Hillary. It was a hobby, even an obsession.

What I missed along the way -- because of some disinformation -- was that the DC-based investigation was purposefully limited to ignore things like the Foundation and the Air Gap. So the fix was in. I was led to think that Comey wouldn't go along with this, but he did.

There are some indications that a separate investigation was made by the SDNY DOJ/FBI that went after the Foundation, but who knows.

The obvious inference as to why Cheryl Mills deleted 33,000 e-mails is that they'd prove out serious charges. Do these 33,000 e-mails exist somewhere else? Probably.

So you could resurrect this. I think the new administration should.

But going after Hillary personally would be phyrric.

125 Whether Hillary is a martyr or not is really irrelevant. What matters most is what's good for the republic and the culture. That's the purpose of laws, to keep order and stabilize society.

If finding Hillary guilty and pardoning her is best for society that's what we should do. If throwing her in a black hole and forgetting her is, that's what we should do.

I agree that justice demands that she pay for her multitude of crimes, but sometimes that's out of our hands. Justice will eventually come, no matter what. But law is about security, peace, and cultural stability.

For years I've toyed in my mind with the idea of a "4th branch of government", sort of an inspector general branch. It would be a constitutional level agency that had the power to investigate the hell out of the federal govt, most specifically the executive branch.

I've never really liked the fact that the executive gets to investigate itself.

We've had that independent counsel shit, which turned into a weapon for political witch hunts. And that's the problem with such a thing, it can be used for political witch hunts.

So that's usually a show stopper, but I'd love to come up with a way to have an independent agency that go up the fed's asses with a microscope if need be, just not be used as a political weapon.

I would like the heads of this agency to be chosen by the states somewhow. Let the governors and/or legislatures somehow "elect" some people whose job will be to keep the executive branch squeaky clean.

164 The Obama administration is ending a policy that granted residency to Cubans who arrived in the United States without visas, several congressional sources said on Thursday.

The change in the policy, known as "wet foot, dry foot," is effective immediately. The Department of Homeland Security is also ending a policy for Cuban medical professionals, known as the parole program.

The policy change, which had been in the works for months, was made abruptly because advance warning might have inspired thousands more Cubans to take to the seas between the island and Florida in order to beat a deadline. "Otherwise you'd put lives at risk," one congressional aide said.

The end of the "wet foot, dry foot" policy was first reported by the Associated Press, citing a senior administration official.

I'd go as far as to say that this "investigation" is an effort to get it out of the way in a hurry before the next administration puts someone in that position that actually does the job. Please provide an explanation why the Inspector General would open this case 8 days before a changing of the guard. Hillary being a "martyr" is a political assessment of a political matter. And completely unpersuasive. She lost because she is unloved, and considered dirty.

Hillary's criminality is not a political matter, nor would it have any appearance thereof if put on trial (Espionage Act and Public Records Act are not squishy vague unimportant obscure laws, massive systematic violation of them and obstruction of justice in connection with them cannot be portrayed as "persecution").

Notice that we haven't even gotten to the $$$ corruption, yet.

That should be pursued, too. And you get further when you have plea bargain leverage from the other serious crimes to add into that conference with a defendants' lawyers.

Your second point is certainly worth consideration but your first is off-base.

The escaped Cubans were NOT illegal immigrants.
During the Cold War, Congress gave the executive the power to admit defectors and escapees from Communism at will and this pertained to Cubans for decades. There was nothing illegal about their migration here, according to AMERICAN law.

Of course, by CUBAN standards, you might call them illegal emigrants, i.e., criminals guilty of treason against the Revolution.

We're told the incident occurred Monday when the 18-year-old was visiting the White House. Sources connected to the girl tell us she went to pet and kiss Sunny, and the dog bit her on the face.

Sunny -- a female Portuguese Water Dog -- left a nasty gash under the girl's eye. We're told the Obamas' family physician, Dr. Ronny Jackson, checked her out and decided she needed stitches.

President Obama dicided not to euthanize their beloved pet, but rather submit the pooch to 'waterboarding' to properly train the canine.

Posted by: deplorable donna at January 12, 2017 06:50 PM (O2RFr)

242 Your second point is certainly worth consideration but your first is off-base.

Well, I consider someone sneaking in without going through the proper channels "illegal" as just a shorthand term. But yes, I understand this relic of the Cold War where we sort of winked at Cuban refugees. Than we took in all their criminals under the same sort of thinking.

Regardless, I don't want people coming to the United States this way, regardless of what's on the books.

I can point to all sorts of places on Earth where people are mistreated, it doesn't mean they get to sneak in here.

Most of the people that come here are just another form of economic migrants.

Cubans have been sending their elderly to the U.S., where they immediately qualify for food stamps, Medicaid, and many other forms of welfare. Lots of them are also getting SSI payments, even though they have never worked in the U.S. or paid a dime into the SS system. Some Cubans, who make 6-figure incomes in the U.S., bring their elderly relatives to the U.S. and have them apply for the SSI and other benefits, even though the elderly relatives are living with the family and the family can easily afford to support them.

There are lots of stories in Florida about elderly Cubans who come here, move into a taxpayer-subsidized apartment, live off their SSI cash income and food stamps, use Medicaid to pay for their health care needs, and then travel back to Cuba every few months to see family. U.S. taxpayers are spending billions each year to provide a "free" living to Cubans who've never worked or contributed a dime here, and who obviously are in no danger in Cuba.

And this at a time when we're $20 trillion in debt and our own veterans are not getting the care we promised them.

It stinks.

It's not fair and it's not right.

328 "What about braving the Rio Grande or Sonoran desert from Mexico? "

It's not well known, but Cubans have been flooding over the Rio Grande into Texas ever since Cuba opened up, because they were fearing the end of the feet-dry policy. I guess they get to Mexico somehow, and then sneak into the US, where they are allowed to stay of course.

A few weeks ago a dead Cuban on a tiny raft was found off the TX coast--pretty weird for us. He had been with a group that was trying to get to Mexico and then the US, IIRC.

351 I see Atlantic has followed through on Jeffrey Goldberg's threat to hire Julia Ioffe, last seen on twitter saying outright that President Elect Trump "fucks" his own daughter.

Now she's got an article up voxsplaining how blackmail works in Russia, and-- worst of all -- HotAir has tipped the article as one worth reading.

Look, AP, I like you. I know your site has been through some difficulties and I sympathize. I also am well aware you hate DJT, think he's a scumbag and will do the country no good. Politics motivates people to feel these things sometimes.

But recommending a scurrilous piece of shit article from Julia Ioffe is a step too far. This disgusting woman shouldn't have any job at all, and Goldberg is blinded by the overall body of her writing, and chooses to forget the depths to which she so eagerly sinks.

You shouldn't sink with Atlantic or Ioffe. Take down the article AP. Never link to Atlantic again, so long as they employ the foul Julia Ioffe.

It all depends on the packaging. With most canned goods, even ten years on, as long as the can is not ballooned up, all you would have is slightly mushy product.

On the other hand, we have been moving to packaging that is a worse oxygen barrier, that could cause foods to 'go off' flavor wise.

"Report the news, do not become the news".

After a while of thinking about it though, that is what they have been doing for sometime. All the news folk think themselves celebrities, and report on themselves, award themselves the roles of subject matter experts and pontificate endlessly.

And I also realized that #FakeNews is making it worse.
It gives them more reasons to talk about themselves, to themselves, to absolve themselves.

Another time I used a straightener (I have naturally curly hair.. fucking poodle hair) and ended up losing a good portion of my hair as the product literally "burned" the hair on my head. As I was rinsing my hair came out in handfuls. I was mortified. Thankfully it grew back but I looked pretty strange for awhile. I'm sure in your case you don't look nearly as hideous as I did.

419 It's not that hard to get from Cuba to Mexico....many daily non-stop flights between Havana and Mexico City.
...

You do realize that you can't even go near an airport, much less board a plane, without government permission in Cuba? You also can't buy a suitcase without a government license.
And the average monthly wage is less than $30.

I am NOT arguing for a continuation of an open-door policy for Cubans, BTW. It just seems that even on a conservative blog there are a hell of a lot of people who have NO CONCEPT of what a police state is.

420 (((198 The IG office isn't under Obama. They are their own office, under nobody, and constantly causing Obama troubles. I think this is a really good step that could result in something very interesting.)))

Are you 100% sure about that. I was under the impression that the President nominates an individual to the position and the Senate confirms. The current guy was nominated in 2012...and approved by the senate. Unfortunately, a moderate amount of searching didn't provide me with the details as to whom does the nominating.

421 Yeah, found it now:

The current head of the Office of the Inspector General was nominated to the post by President Obama. Objectivity is now potentially null.

422 Before the election, lawyer Joe diGenova was making noises about some
FBI agents getting preped to testify before Congress about shenanigans
at DOJ. The biggest complaint was the top officials in DOJ were
shielding Hillary Clinton by denying an investigating grand jury to
issue subpoenas so the FBI could conduct a proper investigation.
Without the subpoenas, the FBI was forced to make the ridiculous deals
with Clinton staffers.

Once Trump won, this disappeared.
