Mollie Hemingway: Donald Trump's Combative Press Conference Was a "Bold Stance Against Media Shenanigans"

She points out that a lot of people, just don't get this important truth: People are sick and tired of the political-media class and want someone to repudiate them.

"Yes, Jim-Bob from ABCNews. No, you don't get a question today because your organization did x, which was a clear instance of bias."

Pass over him, and never call on him that day.

The next day, pick another organization.

It's not a full frontal assault, but it could pick at the press corps enough to bother them somewhat, but it also doesn't go so far as to rile up the press to the point that they have any decent reason to revolt.

Then, one day, do it to every single reporter in the room, cutting them off, giving them the reason they can't speak. Once done, stand there for 10-15 minutes asking for questions that no one can ask because they've all been cut off.

The next day you go back to one at a time.

I was driving to get lunch yesterday and listening to the end of the press conference and when Trump said I have a megaphone and I can fight back but I've watched the media destroy people's lives and they can't say anything and I will fight for them I very nearly started crying.

That, that is why we got Trump.

I was a reluctant Trump supporter but I am now going full Trump. Why? Because more and more I think he is doing this only because he loves this country and he sees things that are broken and he knows he is in a position where what is the press going to do to him? He's 70. He's immensely rich. He's been wildly successful. He has children who love him and who are successful. He has grandkids. He has the literal hot model wife. He has his late in life family.

He has nothing left to prove. This is a man for whom the Presidency is not the culmination of his life.

This means I have to accept the notion that Trump values things outside of himself and that's a very difficult worldview to readjust.

But that's the way the evidence points.

It illustrates that truth or even relevance to the subject at hand is irrelevant to the these people, rather it is the religion of liberalism that fuels their very existence.

All aspects of Media are to conform to The Narrative. To deviate from The Narrative is to risk ostracism (e.g, Faux News).

95 People are sick and tired of the political-media class and want someone to repudiate them.

Yep. Average people are scared to go after big names; they saw what happened to Joe the Plumber, and more recently Ken Bone. They don't want to be the one who speaks up, gets noticed, and then has every nook and cranny of their lives investigated and eviscerated by the press and (even worse) by the online trolls who LIVE to destroy. Average people don't have the resources to fight back against that kind of onslaught. Hell, a lot of well-off people, including right-leaning celebrities (the few there are), don't have those kinds of resources.

So when someone like Trump comes along - someone who's been in the public eye for so many years that every piece of dirty laundry has been washed and rewashed a dozen times over already in the media laundromat - it's invigorating. Here's someone the press and online trolletariat CAN'T destroy, and who's saying things that The Little Guy has wanted to say but was too afraid to for a long, long time. It's like opening a fire hydrant and just letting it erupt. It's beautiful.

Eventually it might get old, and the country may want Trump Co. to dial it back (he won't, but that's because he's Trump), but that won't be for a long, LONG time yet.

A Hollywood strike. No one cared about the last strike they had. In fact I doubt most people remember there even was a strike.

Hmm.
It was a Hollywood writers' strike. It resulted in "reality TV."
Because even though reality TV is heavily scripted, in its
technicalities this is "blocking out scenes," not script writing, and so
changed TV forever.

This? Is how they got Trump. They chose the form of their Destructor.

What would really kill them is if someone got in charge of a major film studio (like...say...Disney), and started pumping out franchise based movies that don't have to rely on single stars to sell them.

I mean, we could get a variety of movies within genres, switch out actors, and just keep the money train rolling without relying on actors.

Lincoln? Fuckin' DECLARED MARTIAL LAW nationwide.

FDR? Fuckin' THREATENED TO PACK THE SUPREME COURT WITH 15 YESMEN to push his agenda through dictatorially.

Reagan? Fuckin' FIRED AN ENTIRE INUSTRY (air-traffic controllers) to punish them for being greedy assholes.

Truman? Fuckin' NUKED CIVILIANS to end a war, then INVENTED A NEW CATEGORY OF WAR ("police action") as an end-around to deny Congress the sole authority to declare war.

Need I go on? Trump is a puffball by comparison to all these dudes and many more.

They will, but still, Disney probably spent 30-50 million on Tarkin alone in Rogue One, and an actor that could have just looked like him would have cost a few hundred thousand dollars (like they did in one of the last shots of Episode III).

When they can create realistic faces (which they can't quite do yet, even with Star Wars money backing it) at the cost of a few hundred thousand dollars a pop, then that will be a real danger to actors.

300 2. Fighting Dirty is Fighting Smart

A fist fight isn't the same as a karate tournament with judges and points. Your opponent is trying to hurt you, so don't let some silly moral argument prevent you from kicking the little bastard in the nuts. Throw sand in his eyes, kick him in the back of the knees, bite him, or punch him in the stomach hard enough to knock the wind out of him. If he's got you pinned down and you happen to see a rock out of the corner of your eye? Don't be afraid to grab that rock and smash his face with it. There is no shiny trophy waiting for you at the end of this fight, so everything goes.

This removes the last (admittedly flimsy) argument against bestiality, no?
So the old feminist can marry her cat.
Or, more accurately, her catS, since there is no lefty argument against polygamy.

379 Speaking of which, would one of those "universal" remotes allow one to change channels on those screens, or are they hard-wired to a video distribution amplifier iin a locked room? Or is it on a case-by-case basis?

380 I'm convinced there will be significant rioting on inauguration day.

I was sure they'd do it at the Republican Convention and it was mild as a spring day in Kansas. I don't know what is coming but I suspect all the steam has gone out of the riot machine, for now. More blacks voted for Trump than anyone on the left wants to admit to, for instance.

383 Cal Coolidge was sworn in by his father. In the sitting room, by the light of a kerosene lamp.

I was up at the Coolidge home over the fall. A very nice, restrained presidential memorial. And I got a Coolidge shirt, too.

384 I am absolutely certain that Obama was just the
setup, and they believed that the next administration would close the
deal, finishing off America as it was for a new glorious socialist
future of utopia and no more conservatives. And that's why they are so
angry, they got interrupted just at the money shot.

This.
And I think Obama kept them focused on him so much that they neglected to see what they were losing in US Senate and House seats, governorships and state legislatures around the county. They have been blindsided.

386 @304 Not to start a one-up thing on this, but in the urban part of my region, we average one house-gone-with-whole-family each hard winter when a denizen boldly fills a fully-marked kerosene heater with gasoline right out of the pump.

The irony, if one can be so hard-hearted as to call it that, is that Coleman and others make perfectly safe lanterns and heaters that run on gasoline. Not long-term safe for indoors, but, you know, they don't explode. But you'd have to read to know that, so.

We also have had multiple instances of people hooking up gasoline-fueled generators when their power finally gets shut off. And they run them inside.

I'm curious.

-------------

It is a humorous little puzzle game where you have to sort items into the correct garbage bins. It was our first effort as a team so we decided to keep it simple. Garbinge!, is what it is called. It's in all the app stores.

Fun (to us, anyway), family-friendly game with a lot of inside jokes on which category the trash goes into. For example, well-done steak is considered garbage and not edible.

Our next game is far more ambitious and will be for PC. It is quite a process getting a game into stores and marketed. We never quite figured out how to market out game and so it was... let's say NOT a commercial success.

398 Oh man. A gas station in the area accidentally filled kerosene tanks with gasoline. So far there have been two house fires caused when people used what they thought was kerosene. It's awful.

Posted by: alexthechick - I see you tree rats at January 12, 2017 02:06 PM (mf5HN)

People used to be able to know, just from the smell, the difference between kerosene and gasoline. And Diesel fuel, for that matter. Today's gasoline doesn't smell as nice as the old leaded, pre-ethanol stuff did, but there is still no way of confusing it with kerosene.

Just another example of the erosion of basic competence in the public.

There are times I think Silent Cal was the last really good president in American history. Who knows, though, Trump may surpass him.

The left made public remarks about conservatives even then. When someone mentioned to Dorothy Parker that Coolidge had died, she came back with: "How could they tell?"
