Jury Sentences Dylan Roof to Death

Good. Doesn't seem all that complicated.

But you know what seems very complicated, at least to some? Whether or not the thugs in Chicago attacked the disabled white man on the basis of his race.

Actually, that question has become less complicated of late; the media has decided to characterize the black-on-white race attack in Chicago as indeed a case of bias crime -- the victim, you see, was chosen on the basis of his mental disability, making this a bias crime against the mentally handicapped.

But not against a white victim, or against a Trump voter. Only Officially Approved Categories of Persons can ever be viciously attacked on the basis of their race or ideology.

Sometimes, punishment IS about retribution. And deterrence to others who are not otherwise sane enough to think about consequences.

However, for some people, they are not people anymore- they have revealed themselves to be demons in human form. Evil should not be left to fester and blight the world.

state court case. Not sure, but this may give additional grounds for
appeal.

Posted by: Ignoramus at January 10, 2017 05:02 PM (SIY7D)

If his lawyers are worth a shit, and he lets them, they can probably get him off on the death penalty for the federal case. I posted the actual federal law here at AOSHQ a few week back. The feds are not supposed to have jurisdiction unless the State is not taking action to assure justice.

Somebody from Obama's corrupt DOJ had to come down here and swear that before a federal judge who had to know the State fully intends to go forward with a capitol murder trial in a few weeks.

This is capitol murder which is not supposed to be a federal crime.

If evidence turns up and exonerates someone who's done 20 years in prison (which has happened), well... I guess we have to come up with some kind of compensation. If evidence turns up and exonerates someone who's dead (which also happens), well, shrug, what can you do.

I'm not sure why this isn't already a legal principle. That is, if you falsely accuse someone of a crime, press charges, testify in court, etc., or use the legal system to frame an innocent person, the penalty incurred is the same as the one you tried to inflict on your victim. Why is this not fair?

Loss of office, disbarment and 1 day in jail is not enough for how whatsisface Nifong tried to railroad the Duke lacrosse players into a conviction.

216
Unfortunately there are a lot of intelligent, generally well-meaning, and genuinely kind individuals who believe that the death penalty is all about taking hurtful revenge on a vicious and nasty monster who himself has hurt someone clearly good in our society.

Not so.

The death penalty is about a few simple things.
In no particular order:

1) It is about society declaring a powerful value to itself. It says that there are some crimes so awful that should someone commit one (of those truly awful crimes), then society will put an end to the life of the offending criminal. - Not as a mater of anger. But as a matter of value. We value the basic well-being and life of one another as citizens that we feel compelled to end the life of anyone who has PROVEN himself to be so malicious. It's a simple declaration of ultimate values.
You need not know the victims. You need not know the perpetrator.
Whoever they happen to be under any conceivable circumstance: the sentence is the same.

2) Also the death penalty is an indispensable tool of Law Enforcement. Nowhere is this better exemplified than in Vincent Bugliosi's _Helter Skelter_ which carefully chronicals the investigations, prosecutions, and convictions of various members of the Manson Family.
Basically, it gives prosecutors leverage to cut deals with heinous criminals who have little hope ever walking free again. If those monsters choose to cooperate and turn State's evidence, then the monster will only be given 35 or so years in prison. Otherwise, the prosecutor seeks the death penalty. As Bugliosi points out: most living creatures (even monsters) have a powerful drive toward self-preservation. When faced with the death, 99.9% of the worst kinds of assholes do the best to save their own rotten assholes. - That's how they got Charles Manson who was never present at any murder scene for which he was convicted.
Moreover, some serial killers have been spared the death penalty in exchange for telling the government where they buried their victims. - So the believed families might obtain closure. In some cases: no death penalty = no closure for the victim's families.

3) It is a fantastic liberal myth that the death penalty serves no deterrent.
There are countless documented cases of monstrous assholes admitting that they stopped short of committing the ultimate crime of murder because they knew it would mean their own ultimate condemnation unto death.
So they mitigated their vile crimes to avoid the ultimate risk to themselves.

4) In every State that imposes the death penalty, you will find a generally stronger system of criminal punishment. So the deterrence is not just at the highest level for capital offenders. The deterrence is stiffened for criminals all the way down the line. - The State consistently demonstrates that it is utterly serious when it comes to punishing convicted criminals at every level. These States tend to have citizenrys that produce less crime.

All that said, even the worst of the worst (like Dylann Roof) have Christ's redemption before them constantly. So did Stalin and Manson and Simpson and countless others.
Unfortunately, such individuals consistently demonstrated that there is any real indication that they were ready to reach out for the Divine Salvation freely and constantly offered to them.

This kind of stuff reminds me of when Rick Perry tried to make Gardasil mandatory for every Texas kid.

And then his chief of staff got a plum job at Merck shortly thereafter (the company that made Gardasil)

The people questioning vaccinations have become so marginalized in society, that now these pharmacuetical companies are giddy with how many things they can make mandatory and know that parents and lawmakers will be afraid to say something.

253 Somewhere in the dialogue of Brendan Behan's play "The Quare Fellow" is the formula for calculating the drop for a proper hanging.

"60 ft drop. 50 ft rope." would pull the head right off the shoulders, I'm thinking.

You will consistently find that in black churches. They strongly oppose the death penalty.

And I'm pretty sure family members of his victims came out in a very short time, saying they forgave Roof. Forgiveness is a BFD for them, as it should be for all Christians.

You can't judge all black churches against Jeremiah Wright and his ilk.

My heart is going out to the families of the people who were killed.... I still can't believe that POS did this. Some of the people were in their 70s and 80s.

The thing that both fascinates and sickens me. Both the president and his various sycophants probably went all in on the death penalty, not just because he was a racist nutjob, but because I think they believe it would bother us.

Yes, L'Oreal has a new skin care line and they said it was tested on many different types of "incubated skin", makes you wonder where they got that skin to incubate. But, at least, by gosh and by golly, no bunnies or hamsters were harmed in the testing of the products. I had read that PP get $350 dollars for "useful amounts" of skin tissue from aborted babies, now we know why.

That's the theory, anyway. Only in the case of the serial rapist/murderer, his spine remained intact. So instead of him jerking around for five minutes or so, they had to go to plan B, which was for the executioner to hang on his feet and legs until death (the murderer's, not his).

Well they released him after serving only eight years and he went on to kill a woman and was sentenced to death in 1997. He died of natural causes in 2001.

Eight freaking years!!! He raped her and cut off her arms!!! That would have resulted in the death penalty less than a century ago. Deservingly so.

281 "Ignoramus! an excellent schadenboner of a piece -- from Newsweek, no less! about the Mystery of Megan."

Thanks. I wish more MSM stories were this true and insightful.

Note that the article points out how there was a quick investigation of Ailes over his sexual harassment by an outside law firm where that firm never interviewed Ailes himself. The results got leaked to the press. I thought this highly suspect at the time, and a tell that it was a putsch to get rid of Ailes. Megyn piled on, despite Ailes having made her a star.

282 While we were dating, the wifey served on a jury that recommended the death penalty for a man charged with killing his cellmate...inside their cell...with the door locked. Stabbed the guy 100+ times, or somesuch. But the defendant was a life-long criminal with a history of violence towards people he believed were "disrespecting" him. He also represented himself and made threats against people testifying against him during the trial. The judge sentenced him to death...which means he'll die of natural causes in about 40 years.

283 In Iran, they execute people by hanging.

However, instead of dropping them to break the neck (with instant death), they pull the victims up by a crane raising them via a rope around their neck.

My understanding is that it takes something like 30 minutes to strangle to death that way.

These are the people Obama just gave $10B to and enough uranium to make 10 nukes.
