Report: Fox Offered Megyn Kelly $100 Million for Just Four Years, But She Was So Unhappy at the Network She Left Anyway
Sources close to Kelly told me today that her departure is an indication of just how unhappy she had become at Fox in the wake of her high-profile feud with Donald Trump and revelations she had accused Ailes of sexual harassment. Her relationships with Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity in particular had completely broken down, one Fox host told me. "Bill hated her," the host said. As Kelly's contract negotiations dragged on during her much-publicized book tour, things also grew strained with Rupert Murdoch, two sources said. One Fox insider told me Murdoch balked when Kelly asked for $25 million late in the talks. (A person close to Kelly disputed this, saying that said Kelly never asked for a specific dollar amount but that Fox had offered $25 million.)The article mentions that Kelly is taking a big risk -- other Big Names in News-Reading have attempted mid-day talk/news shows, and have failed. If this is on NBC -- a terrestrial network -- they're going to expect higher ratings than what would be considered a big hit on cable. If it's on MSNBC... well, that would just be perfect.

- Fox was reportedly offering Kelly $20M per year.
- ABC and CNN were talking to Kelly, but were upfront that they would not beat or match Fox's offer. NBC was also reported to be sniffing around.
- $25M was later put on the table in the Fox negotiation, but whether it was Fox or Kelly that put that figure out there is unclear.
- Kelly leaves Fox for NBC, but nobody's talking about how much money.
- Lots of reports about how other Fox people didn't like Kelly.
This sounds like fiction. She left for less money because O'Reilly and Hannity don't like her? Come on. Fox dumped her and all the scuttlebutt is just Kelly spreading misinformation to save face. Fox went along for appearance sake. They gain nothing by making a stink, plus she was alleged (by her) to have been harassed by Ailes, so she could hold that over them.

I think People are quickly coming to realize that they don't need Morgan Freeman's voice in a commercial, and that anyone could do these daytime talk shows. And anyone can read fake news. Whereas rural and downstate IL would finally be free of Chicago, staying with the Union as the freshly admitted state of New Illinois.

I liked it. I liked the sci-fi. The production values were quite good and they had a lot of good acting talent. The story was very twisty, but I think they are moving toward something.
It kind of reminds me of that Sky television series about the town in Norway, starts out twisty and turning as a murder mystery then gets wrenched into something else later.
Another thing I liked about it: They went for dark and gritty, but did not go all rapey like other shows I can name. Rape is not plot development *coughGeorgeRRMartincough*

I grew up around NYC and then spent a large part of my adult life living in Boston. Northeast liberal run cities are a case study in crazy. Yet people keep voting for the same thing year in and year out and expecting a different outcome.
Trump, who is a complete urban guy, really tapped into this with the "What the hell do you have to lose?" approach. If he can deliver even a little I think that monopoly will start to crack.

Heck.
A couple years ago, my local fish wrapper tried to ignore the story of two of their own reporters sitting at a red light when a hip hop concert let out.
A gang of misdirected yutes pulled them out of the car and beat them.
When they were finally forced to report the story, it was buried and glossed over like a fariry tale.

I liked it. I liked the sci-fi. The production values were quite good and they had a lot of good acting talent. The story was very twisty, but I think they are moving toward something.
It kind of reminds me of that Sky television series about the town in Norway, starts out twisty and turning as a murder mystery then gets wrenched into something else later.
Another thing I liked about it: They went for dark and gritty, but did not go all rapey like other shows I can name. Rape is not plot development *coughGeorgeRRMartincough*

I read the book and I was into the third episode when I realized that the series was based on it (I hadn't remembered the title). The book was a little dark, but the series is some of the best Sci Fi I have seen on screen on 25 years.
