"LISTEN TO US:" ABCNews' "Objective" Head Political "Analyst" Trolls Christians, Republicans on Christmas Eve

I deliberately didn't post this story on Christmas Eve or Christmas day because I didn't want to drop a hate-bomb on everyone.

But it should be noted.

There are a couple of problems with it. First, it's attempting to inject hatred and ill-will into Christmas Eve.

Second, it's not just trolling, it's old, unorginal trolling -- leftists trot this same meme out every Christmas.

Third, it's wrong.

As many Biblically-literate people noted, Joseph and Mary were not "migrants;" they were travelers reporting to the local government center for mandatory government-ordered census-taking.

But whatever, he's super-Christian or whatever.

He then feigned shock that people were taking his obviously contrary-to-the-spirit-of-the-season trolling as trolling:

But he wasn't done quite yet. He then decided to give the game away by shrieking that "Trump fans" wouldn't listen to him:

Note his rather obvious hatred for "Trump fans" -- I don't remember him ever calling out "Obama fans."

And that's what this is all about, isn't it? Trump fans will not listen to Matthew J. Dowd. You know, the objective, fact-based Head Political Analyst for ABCNews who gets everything wrong and in fact apologized a short time ago for being rotten to people who contradicted his claim that Trump could never win. (More on that later.)

I missed this on the first go: He actually has a political agitation organization called, get this, "Listen To Us."

And no, I'm not kidding. It's emblazoned on his Twitter masthead.

He then made some demands. You know, like a hostage-taker:

Then he seems to have began babbling incoherently that we should all trust the polls as "facts" -- the same polls that were so badly wrong just 50 or so days ago:

But Dowd has been attacking anyone suggesting that the polls might be wrong for a long while now:

Host Joe Scarborough first talked about the disservice the media did to the American people during the 2016 election by dismissing anyone who said that Donald Trump had a chance of winning the presidency over Hillary Clinton.

Scarborough then brought up ABC’s Matthew Dowd and said he would write multiple nasty messages if someone said they believed Trump would win. Co-host Mika Brzezinski then brought up Stephanopoulos.

Astoundingly -- I think DrewM. pointed this out -- this was the hack who just a short time ago (on November 11th) promised he would do better.

As I move on from the aftermath of the presidential election, these words from the Latin Mass I attended as a youth bounced around in my head -- "mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa."

The rough translation is "My fault, My fault, My greatest fault".

I want to take this opportunity to say I was wrong about who would win the election. But my biggest regret, and what I would like to apologize for is the arrogant, close-minded, judgmental, and sometimes mean-spirited way I related to many who believed Trump would win.

They were right, and I was wrong.

I had seen many things coming in this election that turned out to be on target, but for the big finale, I was way, way off. This is primarily because I stopped listening, focused too much on data, and didn't allow counter evidence to be absorbed in a meaningful way.

I became too bunkered in New York City (away from my home in Central Texas) in the last few months, and didn't pay attention to the local stories where another portion of America lives and breathes. Too many of my discussions centered around polling, the horserace, and odds, and not enough on the conversations on the ground.

...

[I]n the fall, I became convinced Trump would lose, and after the three debates, even put odds on Clinton winning at 95 percent.

Mea Culpa. I was dead wrong.

Instead of casting my prediction as an educated guess or an informed opinion, I treated it as an inarguable fact. In the past, I have said making numerical predictions is faux math, and still I did it anyway. I should have followed St. John of the Cross and held a place of the unknowing: where truth doesn't come as much through the head, as from the heart and the love we show others.

And thus as I said my biggest blunder was in how I treated people of differing opinions. Mea Maxima Culpa.

Dowd's promise seems to have lasted as long as one of his hero Obama's.

Now this wretched c**t is posting all this shit about loving thy neighbor and love overcoming division and hatred:

And this is the head political analyst of ABCNews.

A shopowner who keeps a known, admitted, unreformable thief at the cash register cannot blame the thief for thieving. He can only blame himself.

Their fault -- their maximum fault.

Update: A commenter says he was Bush-Cheney's political consultant in the 2004 election. Which I guess would make him a #NeverTrumper, rather than an outright leftist.

Just the soft sort of Polite Company Republican the media loves to hire.

Ah well. The #NeverTrump crew is as bitterly unhinged as their fellow travelers on the left.

(2) I also am sick to death of this Mary + Joseph = migrants or refugees thing... but - and being very generous to Dowd - one can argue they were. More specifically when they fled Judea and headed down to Egypt. Yes they were not refugees at the time of Christ's birth. One can argue the typical manger scene is mainly to help identify the *who* not so much the *when*. A crass analogy is saying when Queen Elizabeth was born. She was not queen yet. The manger scene foreshadows Mary + Joseph + Jesus as refugees. I lean conservative and evangelical and on a couple occasions have described the Holy Family that way in sermons. It's not wrong. Just has to be done more carefully and with less political agenda.

77 Here you go people. A nativity scene without any Jews, Arabs, Africans, refugees, poor people

I was going to snark about the wise men from the East being Africans, because Africa is east of Bethlehem. Then I got to pondering whether there were actually Arabs there.

Auda abu Tayi: The Arabs? The Howitat, Ajili, Rala, Beni Saha; these I know, I have even heard of the Harif, but the Arabs? What tribe is that? -- Lawrence of Arabia

Since there is no clear definition of what an Arab is the commonly accepted version is people who speak Arabic. The languages of Jesus' place and time would have been Aramaic, Hebrew, and Koine (popular Greek). So, no Arabs.

Now, Dowd's stupid tweet doesn't really merit analysis, but I find it interesting that it's even more ignorant than it is stupid.

83 U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will deliver a major address on Peace In The Middle East tomorrow morning.

The Palestinian-Israeli conflict is a key part of what Secretary of State Kerry-Heinz will address, a spokesmodel said.

"In his speech, Secretary of State Kerry will lay out a comprehensive vision for how he believes the conflict can be resolved in the Middle East, State Department Deputy Spokesman* Mark Toner announced.

The Secretary of State will make the historic address from The State Department on Wednesday morning. It will be live-streamed on the State Department's state-of-the-art website.

Activity on AoSHQ is expected to grind to a complete halt, as The Horde tunes in. No word on whether Ace will live-blog this incredible and important address.

* More evidence of the imperialist white supremacist capitalist cisheteropatriarchy infesting the Department of State since the abrupt desharture of Madame Secretary.

My wife went to this corporate event where BBC presenter Katty Kay was a speaker - she got to talk to her later and Katty said that Trump made her life a living Hell with his tweets - she would get up in the morning and if he had tweeted something in the middle of the night it ruined her day because she had to scramble.

The man is NOT random.

Most people like Dowd seem to think that Twitter exists so that whenever they feel like saying something stupid, they have to rush and tell the whole freaking world.

A lot of people seem to think that this is why Trump tweets, too - that he just can't hold his dumbass in. But here is the truth - he uses it as a tool to fuck with people.

206 I also am sick to death of this Mary + Joseph = migrants or refugees thing... but - and being very generous to Dowd - one can argue they were. More specifically when they fled Judea and headed down to Egypt.
_______________________

Mary and Joseph sought refuge in Egypt until the danger from King Herod had passed, then they went home.

How many of our modern "refugees" are going to return to their home countries once the danger there has passed? The Haitian "refugees" who came to the U.S. after the earthquake are still living here, years later. The Bosnian and Serbian "refugees" are still living here. Anybody think the Somali or Syrian "refugees" are ever going back home?

We all know that the vast majority of these "refugees" are actually permanent transplants, so it's dishonest to compare them to Mary and Joseph. Furthermore, the government of Egypt did not provide welfare to Mary and Joseph when they were living there, unlike modern "refugees" who come to the U.S. and live off taxpayer-funded hand-outs for years and years.

If Dowd wants to argue in favor of more muslim immigration from third world countries, then do it. But do it honestly, not with facile analogies to historical figures who had absolutely nothing in common with today's "refugees."

Posted by: Rick67 at December 27, 2016 06:11 PM (bqer+)

People use the passive voice when they're trying to weasel out of responsibility for statements. Years ago, when I had to take minutes for departmental meetings, I found my drafts were constantly changed from the active to the passive voice, and frequently the actors were removed from the minutes entirely. I'd write, "Mr. Smith suggested that we purchase new computers for the department" only to find that Mr. Smith changed it to "It was suggested that new computers be purchased...."

After a while I found myself writing in the passive voice almost automatically and I hated it - but it appeared the goal was to make the official record as bland as possible. Everyone wanted their asses covered.

246 Dowd's meltdown follows a certain trajectory I've seen in other Trump haters since the election (most notably at NR):

1. Shock and disbelief.
2. A brief - VERY brief - moment of humility, as the writer admits that "shit, did I get that one wrong."
3. That is followed, not by acceptance and further soul searching, but instead, as the days go back and it sinks in that OMG, Trump is going to be in the Oval Office on Jan. 20 and recounts, faithless electors, the NY State Attorney General and everyone else we thought could save will not - anger and hatred. If depression is anger turned inward, the reverse is also true.

That's why NR, after a few high-minded, "well, we were wrong and hope for the best from the PE" is now printing Williamson's drivel comparing the Trump sons to Saddam Hussein's demonic spawn. They can't do humility and they can't do depression because they can't be angry at their own precious selves for very long - so they've doubled and tripled down on the hatred and scorn.

299 Jesus wasn't working as a carpenter during the years he was preaching. Some of his wealthier followers gave him nice gifts and undoubtedly fed him and the apostles from time to time, but there's no indication that they had much money (Judas had the purse, so it looks like they pooled their funds.)

Applying the concept of a "middle class" to ancient Israel is stretching things, although I suppose a doctor and tax collector would fall into the category of "people who were not on the verge of starvation." Almost everybody was "blue collar" because almost everyone except the priestly class had to work with their hands to make a living.

302 Yes; there is actually. When Jesus is presented in the temple they purchase a turtle dove. That would have been one of the less expensive things to buy to sacrifice. A more costly sacrificial animal would have been a spotless lamb. They were not refugees, of course, as has already been noted.

303 1. Where are the angels in the creche? Angels are none of those identity groups.

2. Ace, when people refer to the Holy Family as migrants or refugees, they're probably trying --and failing-- to connect those words with the flight to Egypt, not the census. Even when fleeing to Egypt they were not at all like modern refugees, because they were moving from one province of the Roman Empire to another (so they weren't international), and even more importantly, they returned after a few years rather than lived in an alien land forever. (Someone else might have already pointed these out, but I can't check 300+ comments right now.)
