Obama orders intelligence community review of 2016 election hacking I guess it's okay that half the dead in Chicago and Detroit and Cleveland and Philadelphia and every other blue city have voted for the last two generations, but when they can't quite manage to flip the election to the chosen one...the drunken sociopath with neurological issues...THEN they take it seriously.Obama's directive to his intelligence agencies to conduct a full review and report to him before he leaves office on Jan. 20 could serve to fuel more questions about the integrity of the election - at a time when President-elect Donald Trump's advisers and allies are battling with Clinton stalwarts still bitter over the race.Except....it's not really "election hacking." Why is the federal government investigating a political party's issues? Why is it the government's problem that the Democrats have crappy network security? I wonder what changed? WTF does this even refer to? What "hack"? Which states? Were vote counts changed? What, exactly, is this "issue" that is being investigated?
(yeah sure, you could ask the same basic question about half of the "issues" or controversies on the lips of the WH, the Dems, or the press) How about, for an election integrity investigation, a civil rights-abridgement investigation of the 18th largest city, where 60% of the precincts could not even be recounted due to massive, fundamental discrepancies between the two basic metrics of integrity in those locations? Some easy answers to "hacking" of the voting process
1) No ID, no vote, no exceptions, period. 2) Paper. Ballots. Only. 3) Everyone votes on the same freaking day 4) Any precinct that doesn't reconcile identically on election day has their ballot boxes immediately seized by state police and counted by state election officials, overseen by representatives of both parties Or, we can continue to pretend that cities like Philly can have turnout that vastly exceeds the turnout rates of the rest of the state because voters there are more "energized" than in the rest of the state. DocJ @ 148 nails it. In an advanced educated country like the US, without civil conflict or other crisis, ensuring election integrity is simple. He mentions the key factors.
I said this several times during the campaign, but having been on international election assistance missions to countries emerging from long civil wars, I can say that many US states would fail US, EU, and UN minimum standards for ensuring integrity of the election process. L'Elle @ 231, exactly. Trump's speaking style is so different than conventional political figures. Sure it grates on some - but that's more his New Yawk attitude stuff, I think.
But Elle touches on a key point. At least on the big "issues," there is the unmistakable feeling of sincerity when he states his position. There's rarely a sense of someone ticking off check-boxes on a talking points list - in terms of sincerity or intensity (maybe a little bit when he gets to the smaller items). Two things I'm choosing to treat as encouraging from Trump's continuing rallies (and other statements): if anything he is adding emphasis to the de-regulation component of his economic sanity platform, and he keeps talking about real energy sources (coal, oil, gas) when he talks about energy.
Obviously we'll soon see, but it's hard to believe he's going to disappoint too badly on these gigantic things after running on them and continuing to hammer them home even after the election. Posted by: rhomboid at December 09, 2016 08:49 PM (QDnY+) 315

üi+You lost me at "Access database." Sure, try out Ubuntu. If you're doing a server, and don't like sending checks to MSFT, it's the way to go. And get that db over to MySql or PostGreSql, stat. There's probably a slick way to do that, at this point.
Posted by: Splunge at December 09, 2016 09:01 PM (iMxBJ) ü-i+ I was thinking the same thing: time to move on from Access. I started out there as a virgin, but M$ keeps "deprecating" subroutines that are super useful. For example, they blitzed "applicatoin.filesearch." Much too useful, when with a mere 25 lines of code, you can do the same thing. After you finish swearing, of course. I used to spend a lot of time in the Appalachians and on several occasions saw bobcats. Best sighting by far was a mom with three kittens. Very cute!

I'm always trying to learn what animal left which tracks. They explain it to me and then I forget. I thought it was the cats that did that. I recognize raccoon tracks because they look like baby foot prints. Posted by: CaliGirl at December 09, 2016 09:54 PM (Q5Ymk) 479
468. They are adorbs, as the kids say, but lethal. Saw a bobcat about a month ago.... he would have eaten my face if he hadn't been nomming on the stuff I set out for the ferals.

I haven't seen a bobcat in about 20 years. I saw a lion from the safety of my truck about 10 years ago. That mountain lion was beautiful, 5 feet from my parked truck and then he was gone.

Late last night, a little wild cat I dubbed "Binny" (he hung around some old grain bins) came back again. It had been months, and I thought he was gone. But he showed up again on the back porch. He's eaten 6 3oz cans of moist cat food and several little cups full of dry food in about 24 hours.
He will barely let me touch him. I thought I was getting him fairly comfortable, and tried to hold him, and that spooked him and I didn't try again. And then he disappeared. But he's back, and doesn't look all that bad. And he remembers me. He let me touch him a little bit. Posted by: publius (not Breitbart publius) at December 09, 2016 10:00 PM (DW+jj) 488

---------- I saw a mountain lion in the Sierras many years ago at night. Bounded across the road in one hop (leap? bounce?) in front of th mar and was gone. It lasted about 2 or 3 seconds and I mostly remember the size of the tail! It was like a tail with a cat attached! Posted by: Weasel at December 09, 2016 10:03 PM (Sfs6o) 496
There are supposed to be bobcats and moutain lions around here too (CO), but I haven't ever seen one. I have seen lots of snakes, coyotes, a raccoon, and a grey fox. Lots of wabbits and deer. And an owl.
I like the owl. He can stay. The rest can go. Posted by: L, Elle at December 09, 2016 10:05 PM (6IPEM) 497
It also depends on the feral cat too. Some are too crazy and wild to domesticate, but they will come by for food.
Some will come in and be adopted. My kitties are feral kittens, but they were the ones that would be adopted. Their littermates wouldn't stay Posted by: Kindltot at December 09, 2016 10:06 PM (yLUuz) 498

Anyone have a theory for why "You Can't Always Get What You Want" was Trump's rally music pick? I figure there's a deep reason.
My theory: it perfectly expresses a negotiator's mentality. You won't get everything you want, but if you negotiate right, you will walk away from the table with what you needed to get. Posted by: Splunge at December 09, 2016 08:36 PM Maybe. My take on it was that it was a classic tune that everyone knows, sounds great as a theme, has that philosophy you mentioned, but a bit more... it was something that represented a wink of self deprecation, but also a FUCK YOU to the media. I suspect it was selected rather late in the affair. Posted by: otho at December 09, 2016 10:09 PM (lmIoG) 501

ANYONE who is against voter ID, and I mean REALLY STRICT voter ID, is an America-hating criminal. The idea that some son-of-a-bitch from across the border can negate my vote because they were aided and abetted by some Dem bastard absolutely sets me free. I'd like to see intentional vote fraud punished by caning (like they do in Singapore), a 50% confiscation of all assets and a mandatory minimum of ten years in PMITA jail. I want those bastards to think they'd MUCH rather hang themselves than cheat in an election.
That penalty is actually being moderate. What I'd really like to see is the vote fraudster and his enablers lined up against a wall and shot. For those of you who think this is harsh, think again. Make no mistake, we're one closely contested national election away from shooting in the streets. The anger is very real. I wish I had a dollar for everyone out there who would just LOVE to shoot down some Black Panther bastard who was intimidating voters from going into the polling place. The cheating has to stop or else the contest WILL move on from the ballot box to the next box, and we all know what box that is. I hope both sides are smart enough to back away from that because, if that flag goes up, the train of lefty refugees going into Windsor and Tiajuana is going to make that lot going into Perpignan in 1939 look like the crowd of people who would come to see Fat Lena naked.
