Snowflakes Will Fall: OSU Activists Complain Police Wrongly Shot... Campus Terrorist

Mm-hmm. From Blake Jeff at the Daily Caller:

The OSU Coalition for Black Liberation is a campus protest group on OSU's main campus in Columbus. The group held a rally Wednesday to protest the death of young black men at the hands of police, and read off a list of non-white men who had been killed by police in the last two months. Among the names read off was that of Abdul Razak Ali Artan [the OSU stabbing jihadist and run-down warrior]....

Organizers of the protest said that Artan’s particular actions were irrelevant.

"In some cases, the deceased may have committed acts of violence against others before they were killed," gender studies student Maryam Abidi said at the event, according to The Lantern. "Perhaps they were domestic abusers, perhaps they threatened or killed others. This possibility is not something to shy away from. The protest against police brutality extends to the innocent and the guilty alike, because we know that no matter the crime, justice and due process don't come from a cop's bullet."

Gee I wonder who Tucker Carlson is booking for his guest victim tonight.

This is true. Justice comes when a society appraises the actions of its police and decides whether they were appropriate for the circumstances. If they were...fine. If they weren't, then further legal examination is required.

I'm going out on a limb here, but my guess is that the campus community is wildly happy with the actions of its police force.

26 Judge Jeanine was on F&F this morning and was so livid over this stupidity , that she was foaming at the mouth.

She wanted to know if Artan should have been allowed to continue to run around stabbing and slashing people until he was too exhausted to pick up the knife and then simply cuffed.

When I was a student many years ago at OSU, we had goofy ass groups like this on campus. Typically they would be on the library steps or on the oval, yelling and hollering with a few signs. You simply walked by them and ignored them. Unfortunately with the advent of 24/7 media and social media, these idiots get full coverage now.

And where do they get their crazy ideas? Well, they have been indoctrinated now all the way through public school, and then the colleges provide them with everything from meeting places to grants to keep this inspiration going.

They can scream as loud as they want, but the question is whether they can acquire political power. Unless their fortunes change, the Democratic Party is not going to continue by letting the coastal elite run their party through appeals to transgender bathrooms. They're going to need to focus on the economy, jobs, and national security again.

There are real adults in the Democratic Party, and I predict that they will eventually regain control of it. It may take a few cycles and a second Trump term, but it will have to happen.

Due process is the ideal to be strived for, and is, in most cases achievable.
But self defense (and the related "defense of a third person") take IMMEDIATE precedence over due process.
There's no "due process" in castle doctrine either, there's straight up self defense. Changing that would be an absurd assault on natural rights for legalistic reasons.

***
One side complaint about modern political thought is that we've fetishized the processes by which we live in a free society such that we value them over said free society.

We have due process because we want to make sure that we punish the correct individual for a crime, not because due process in and of itself is valuable.

If someone is engaged in Jihad when shot, we have a high degree of evidence that they are in fact guilty.

Of course when given the chance the police should offer a suspect a chance to surrender, but justice was clearly served here, and amusingly the penalty meted out - death - was more justice then what the jihadi would have gotten if he had surrendered.

She is normally a very right leaning person and she proudly posted this along with photos of the poor snowflakes sitting on the floor hugging pooches.

I can't rip on it as she loves doing her therapy work with the dogs, which usually is done in nursing homes, hospitals, etc.

The blame goes to the Federal Gov. who dictates that colleges who take any kind of federal funding, including students with federal loans and grants, are fully subject to all the rules, regs, etc of the Dept. of Education and the DoJ. It's why schools have Departments of Diversity and Inclusion(exact title of the one at OSU). It's why a black female coach was fired from a college this week for suspending two of her female basketball players who were engaging in a sexual relationship against team rules, which the school says violates Title IX according to a Federal judges ruling. On and on and on.
Kasich can't do anything about this crap. it will be up to the next administration to start to remove these insane regulations and requirements on colleges.

Everybody Goes To College movement

wherein people who are not smart, disciplined, or even marginally college material go to college because the colleges admit them not as students, but as paying customers. So now you have marginal people studying made up majors who know they have no future in the real world. So they try to make a name for themselves so they can get a following that will make them relevant.

It's going to be a beautiful morning soon, and colleges will be sorely unprepared for anything involving hardship. All we have to do is sit back and watch the show.

The left is of two views of the police.

The most common view is the one you saw in the 60s - the police are inherently evil. If you get rid of police you will get rid of "bad" crime. People will still from the rich...but that is ok.

The view of the police from the left's hierarchy though is that they are useful in enforcing left wing dictates.

These conflicting views are why you will see liberals complaining about "pigs" and then proclaiming that Christians should be arrested if they don't serve gay "weddings"

Oh sheesh. The omg but if you shoot someone who is hurting you then you execute them without due process screeching doesn't even rise to the level of argument.

That stance is a repudiation of the notion that a person is entitled to defend himself and the notion that the police are allowed to use force to defend others.

It's an utter inversion of moral and natural rights.

Note also the smug condescension contained in the this is not something to shy away from. That's a tacit admission that the stance being presented contains within it moral difficulties but there is no actual attempt to address those difficulties. It's not enough to say this is a problem, that problem must also be addressed.

Which ignores tons of humanist arguments in favor of natural rights, but..whatever I guess.

There's a lot of conflation too between the natural rights and the sort of things that are confused as rights but that are really privileges we carve out because we're America and America is awesome. So inevitably someone will pull one of those out and you'll have to say "well that's not really a right as much as a privilege that we have by virtue of living in an awesome country."

Personally, I don't think there can be any repair. You've enabled a minority to express themselves in an ever increasingly crazy manner. Every outburst that gets no reaction will provoke another more disturbing outburst, IMHO. It's part "justice" and part "narcissism". Everyone wants to be the special snowflake of the day.

A false narrative has been reinforced upon certain gullible peoples and they truly believe they are in a battle to the death. If logic and reason cannot overcome that, what chance do we have in regards to creating a society where all peoples live in relative peace with one another?

I just don't see a way out of this, other than waiting for this particular generation of idiots to die of old age and hoping that they don't have many children upon whom they thrust their crazy.

Perhaps we mean the same thing in the end, but I don't agree with this wording. "Rights" are either natural rights, or they are created by people. Government is instituted by people to protect and defend rights.

Government itself "creates" no rights at all, at least in our system. The right to a jury trial by peers is a mechanism created by people to ensure the right to justice, and making sure governments don't trample that right.

This.

Way too many people go to college. If a person doesn't use his college training in a later job, he wasted his time going to college at all.

Focusing just on the state execution aspect: in papers I've seen most criminals on death row wouldn't even be eligible for organ donation anyway due to medical history (drug use as one example, I'm sure the horde can imagine others.)

So people pushing it are just being stupid. We'd get far more organs switching from "opt in" to "opt out." with far less moral issues.

OK, except there is really no "dissing" required. PC means white man guilty, privileged ... genetic racism. So our mere presence is a dis. "God damn (white) America", is the Obama Doctrine.

Maybe real life, yeah, a "dis" allows violent reaction ... on a PC level. I don't know that has really been tried in court though. Zimmerman, Wilson, Baltimore cops ... all vindicated in court. They vindicated the "I can't breathe" cops, but supposedly the DC thugs were trying to change that. Probably a no go now that Trump is in.

Government itself "creates" no rights at all, at least in our system. The right to a jury trial by peers is a mechanism created by people to ensure the right to justice, and making sure governments don't trample that right.

Now the proper response* to that, and a great opening for DeVos, would be to cut off all federal funds to CA schools until the entire administration involved with the decision, and the teacher himself, are fired.

Interestingly, because CA is so far afield form the rest of the US politically, and because there is no chance of Republicans winning there in the forseeable future, it would be really, really smart politics for Trump and co to intentionally go after the state in such a manner.

I'm sure Pope Francis will have something to say about that as soon as he finishes his campaign against FakeNews.

Y'no, he really should stick to his usual warmed-over Marxism. It's one thing to sound like a 1960's liberation theologian who never grew up and another thing entirely to sound like you're auditioning for a job at CNN. It's as if the Democratic Party is handing him a daily script or something! Weird.

428 190 You know why they call it "social justice?" Because it is different than "justice." All actual justice is individual and specific. Social justice is just a way to be a bigot but dodge the stigma.

The correct definition of "social justice" is "revenge".

429 I've wondered why they don't use nitrogen asphyxiation. You can't get more humane; you just get sleepier and sleepier until poof! You're gone. No sense of panic (because you're exhaling your CO2), no nothing.

Those working in enclosed spaces with liquid nitrogen have to be careful not to inadvertently whack themselves.

But then, they'd have to release all that poisonous nitrogen into the atmosphere when they purge the gas chamber to recover the body.

Exactly. You took the words right out of my mouth. It's as though he's getting fed talking points directly from a Hillarey or Obama staffer. He probably is--through an intermediary like a liberal US Archbishop. Cardinal Dolan of NY perhaps?

432 Much of what we call natural rights come from a very specific source--the Founding Fathers by way of Christianity by way of Judaism. Most of the legal accompaniment in the U.S. comes from modern arguments between Hobbes, Locke, Montesquieu, and Blackstone (not so much Rousseau).

Most of these philosophers agree that you have a natural right to preserve your life. Beyond that, not much agreement even on items such as property. Both Hobbes and Rousseau for example reject that as a right Hobbes rejects the right to revolt against an unjust government. Rousseau and to some degree Locke argue for it. And so on.

The notion of negative rights where the government lacks to power to do something innately is somewhat of a lost concept even in England. The notion of positive rights, which should really be known as privileges, where government guarantees through coercive force is ascendant today.

Students today find it unthinkable the idea that the U.S. government should be limited to its enumerated powers even if the government's goal is really desirable. Many, if not most, subscribe to the idea of Rousseau's "general will" is always correct but its implementation leaves a lot to be desired because lawmakers are not always as enlightened as they should be.

What they do not realize is that Rousseau was merely inverting the old divine right of kings and substituting the people for a king. Thus, when the general will needs to eliminate deviationists for the good of the community--enlightened legislators will do so without wringing their hands about liberty. Burke was not wrong in blaming Rousseau for many of the excesses of the French Revolution.

Actually, helium is a good choice. Put them in the chamber and give them just a little bit of gas, then ask them to say any last words so everyone can get a good chuckle because the executioner will sound like Donald Duck.

Last time I looked the website was a laundry list of marxist causes and agitprop.

But no one should be permitted to interfere with black rage. Even if it is a Somalian who shouldn't be here to begin with. Self-defense or defense of others is not fair to minority rage. You are supposed to take your beating, slicing or murder. Because black rage. Understand?

one of the 20 or so disciplines which is nothing but directed critical theory studies. All of them you can take the word before "studies" and replace it with "critical theory as it applies to" Sure it's longer. But it lets you know what you're really dealing with.
