Jill Stein's Agitations About Possible Vote Fraud Prompts Michigan Legislature to Pass Voter-ID Requirements Bill

Well done.

Jill Stein didn't get the recount she wanted in Michigan, but she did get the state to take vote-integrity issues seriously. Meeting in its lame-duck session, the state House of Representatives passed a tough voter-ID bill that includes $3 million for funding of free state identification and birth certificates after over 18,000 voters cast ballots without identification in the presidential election...

The current law, Sexton says, allows you to sign an affidavit affirming your identity in lieu of providing an ID. Note to Michigan: You can't catch someone defrauding the vote here because they're signing a name and address that isn't their own. How you gonna track them down?

The new law would allow them to cast a provisional vote without an ID, but they'd have to show up within ten days after the election to present their ID to officials before their provisional vote would be treated as an actual vote and counted.

It's preposterous we're even having this debate.

88 Yeah, it's going to take more than Voter ID, but it's a start:

...Detroit Precinct #152 had an unbroken seal and everything looked proper.
The tag on the box said 306 and the book said 306 and the ticket said
306, so there should be 306 paper ballots on the box, right.
Well when
they pulled out the ballots the stack seemed short and when they
finished separating the two page ballot to count the Presidential page
only guess how many ballots were in the box? 304 no, 299 nope, 200 nada,
how about 100 wrong again. There were only exactly 50 paper ballots in a
locked sealed box that again was supposed to have 306.

If the demographics shifts all stay in California while every other state tightens their ballot processes, the demographic changes simply won't matter.

And just think, all of pop culture screams that those places that voted for Trump are hives of racism. What Hispanic in California would want to move out there and help spread those votes across the nation?

Here in Missouri they are threatening to prevent us from using our actual, you know, state issued IDs to enter federal buildings, board planes, etc.

Because, get this, the card itself, which is tightly controlled regarding how one gets it, isn't sufficiently adequate for federal purposes.

We also have a real voter ID law. So maybe the two are not so coincidental.

At that point, what the Republican Party can, and needs to, do is to perform outreach in these burgeoning cities in conservative states. Build on the seeming goodwill that some elements of the black community are giving to Trump, and convince them to stop voting as a block.

Tall order, but within the realm of possibility.

120 I got into an argument with some idiot or Democrat (BIRM), and could not get him to admit that there was no way to limit the act of voting to citizens without providing ID. He insisted that "bringing a piece of mail" should be sufficient, because Student IDs weren't enough to buy a bottle of wine or something. (The thought that the piece of mail might have been stolen out of someone's trash never crossed his mind.)

If you are going to want to limit voting to 1) citizens 2) who are still breathing 3) but not subject to loss of rights through felony conviction, but NOT require an ID, then the burden is upon you to come up with an alternative that can be used to 1) prove citizenship and residence address when registering, and 2) prove that the person actually registered at that name and address is actually the person casting the vote. At the same time, you have to explain why the very same ID that is accepted by banks, stores, government agencies, realtors, and libraries, is somehow "oppressive" when being asked to provide it to fulfill the functions required above.

...Detroit Precinct #152 had an unbroken seal and everything looked proper.

166 141 and Gateway Pundit posted about Detroit, having all their counts uncountable. They say they run the same ballots through multiple times, so when the box was checked that was counted as 300, it only had 50 ballots.

I guess that only gets found out when someone demands a recount.

So they need more than voter ID, they need watchers, and security cameras, and locks ... and bagels.

173 The Mercury heat shield was made by Cincinnati Testing Laboratories, a subsidiary of a firm I've done a lot of business with. The head of the company related how things went down on Glenn's big day.

After a couple months of 24/7's, everybody was finally done, so he took his family to a little resort motel in Florida. At the swimming pool, a waiter brought out the phone on a serving tray, and on the other end was the guy telling how the straps might or might not hold. "I must have looked like the most foolish man in the world, standing there, dripping wet in my swim trunks, holding a phone and looking up at the sky."

And John Glenn came back from orbit...behind a Studebaker.

174 Here it is - Clark county, NV had major vote fraud:

Vaughan brought into the NEWSMAXTV Las Vegas studio and laid it out for
all to see, US postal service certified returned mail from 9,200 voters
in District 15. Many of the people who were listed as deceased are still
on the active voter rolls today. Many of the returned mail came back
with 5 people living in a vacant lot with no mail receptacle....

A total number of 17,086 votes were cast in District 15 for both
Republican and Democrat candidates. 9,200 voters on the voter rolls who,
by law, should not be on the voter rolls is a huge discrepancy.

Hillary won Nevada by 27,000 votes.

I've been on base a few times this year without ID.

Yes, it bothered me, too.

Posted by: Chi - #FreeCthulhu

Once upon a time, when my folks worked on base, I would have need to go on base myself (often to deliver something or pick someone up). Seldom was my ID checked, they'd look at the sticker and wave me through. (Fun fact, the "civilian DoD" blue faded into "officer" green over time. They salute the sticker, not the person.)

This was different on occasion, during Desert Storm and after 9/11 for a while for example, but by and large not the most terribly rigorous security.

They were also doing what now seem to be really primitive experiments, but were at the time revolutionary: What can I see? If someone shoots a flare from a ship, is it visible? Can I swallow food up here?

================

That's definitely true. Politics downstream from culture sort of thing.

However, if the LP had managed to hit 5%, then ballot access in 2020 goes away as an issue to them and they could have spent more time and money on actual voter outreach.

I'm not saying that they could have played in 2020, but they could been an unquestionable spoiler in a state like New Hampshire and taking a handful of electoral votes. Then build off of that in 2024.

But, if they're happy screaming at clouds, good for them.

Simple, but you need honest election judges. IOW Both Parties, or all three or four parties need to participate 100%.

The ballots all come out with unique sequential numbers on them in packs of about 100.

Each ballot gets signed or initialed by both Dem and GOP judges. They check that the number on the ballot is valid and in sequence. After each pack is signed, the ballots are shuffled and randomized, before handing them to the voters.

Spoiled ballot? Oops I voted wrong, too many? The ballot gets a YUGE red X on it and is signed by two judges, one from each party. Give them a new ballot.

Need more ballots? Open a new pack and get the judges signing them.

Left over blank ballots? After the polls close and everyone voted, the judges dip the unused ballots into a bucket of ink to spoil them. Make sure the sequence number and the judges signatures are still visible.

Count the ballots. Stack them up, put a cover sheet on it, a board underneath it, then drive two nails through the stack and have the judges circle the nails, and sign and date the cover sheet. Use multiple stacks as necessary, with #1 of 27, etc., on the cover sheet.

The number of valid votes should be equal or less than the number of signatures in the polling books. Lock the stacks and the books in a box, seal it, and have the judges sign the seals. Trasport to the central station by multiple judges from multiple parties. Lock everything in a secure room for 90 days, with video monitoring.

Only let the door be opened in the presence of multiple judges for recounting. After 90 days, perform an audit of a sample of the ballots. Check that the voter actually voted, was a valid voter, the votes and voter roll matched, the votes tallied match a recount.

I am sure someone can improve my idea.

The problem is polling stations in Philadelphia kicking the GOP judges and poll watchers out.

258 In late November 1950, after the Chinese intervention into the war, his unit was caught up in heavy fighting in North Korea as part of the U.N. forces retreat from the Yalu River. In the Battle of Kunu-ri, the 2nd Infantry was assigned to hold a road position near Kunu-ri while the rest of the Eighth Army retreated to Sunchon, 21 miles further south. On the night of November 29, 1950, the 2nd Infantry was attacked by gradually encircling forces of the Chinese Army, who set up a fireblock to cut off any U.S. retreat. The eerie blare of Chinese night-fighting bugle calls and communication flares piercing the freezing air led to what Rangel later described as a "waking nightmare, scene by scene, and we couldn't see any possible way out of the situation." During the day of November 30, the order came to withdraw the 2nd Infantry in phases, but the 503rd Artillery Battalion was sixth of eight in the order and could not get out in daylight when air cover was possible.

On the night of November 30, Rangel was part of a retreating vehicle column that was trapped and attacked by Chinese forces. In the subzero cold, Rangel was injured in the back by shrapnel from a Chinese shell. He later wrote that the blast threw him into a ditch and caused him to pray fervently to Jesus. Up and down the line of the retreat, unit cohesion disappeared under attack and officers lost contact with their men. There was screaming and moaning around him and some U.S. soldiers were being taken prisoner, but despite feeling overwhelming fear Rangel resolved to try to escape over an imposing mountain: "From the rim of that gully it just looked like everything had to be better on the other side of that damn mountain."

Others nearby looked to Rangel, who though only a private first class had a reputation for leadership in the unit and had gained the nickname "Sarge". Rangel led some 40 men from his unit over the mountain during the night and out of the Chinese encirclement. Other groups were trying to do the same, but some men dropped from the severe conditions or got lost and were never heard from again. By midday on December 1, U.S. aircraft were dropping supplies and directions to Rangel's group and others, and had a raft ready to take them across the Taedong River; groups from the 503rd Artillery reached Sunchon that afternoon. Overall, no part of the 2nd Infantry suffered as many casualties as the artillery; it tried to save, but eventually lost, all its guns, and nearly half of the battalion was killed in the overall battle.

Rangel was treated first at a field hospital, then moved to a general hospital well behind the lines in South Korea where he recuperated. He eventually returned to regular duty, then was rotated back to the U.S. in July 1951.

Rangel was awarded a Purple Heart for his wounds, the Bronze Star with Valor for his actions in the face of death, and three battle stars. His Army unit was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlie_rangel

No doubt, when Rangel dies, there will be those that want to gloss over what a scumbag he was as a politician. My response will be, "Fuck that shit!"

Upon his death it will be entirely appropriate to remember Rangel's service to his country and the way he put his life on the line. It will also be appropriate to remember what he did with his life after that time.

Yeah, it might be time to do a last read through, print it out and then go through it tomorrow morning and be horrified by the rest of what I find.

Story time!

At the Old Firm, I was flipping through the printed copies of an appellate brief before boxing them up to send off to be filed. Mind you, this was a brief that was proofed by at least four different people at least seven or eight times each.

I was basically just rifling through the pages to be sure they were all printed the proper direction when something caught my eye.

So there I was, sitting on the floor with a pen, putting the missing f into the word shift. Not a single one of us caught that.

Remember, folks, your brain reads what it knows is there, not necessarily the actual words on the page and that can lead to hilarity.
