Meet The PetMorons

zz henry.jpg

Regular IBGuy adopted a new family member. Here is her story, "
So, this is Maddie, the newest member of our family. We lost our 13 1/2 year old puppy to canine lupus a year-and-a-half ago, and finally ready to welcome a new little one.

She's an Australian hunting dog/Border collie mix (with a bit of Jack Russel thrown in, too, we think). We've only had her since Tuesday evening, but she's already burrowed deep into out hearts." Sweet story. Thank you for sharing.

zz sophie.jpg

Regular commenter Mike Hammer is a patient guy. Now his sweetie Sophie on the other hand isn't. Let's go Mike it's present time. Adorable. That's a nice submission Mr. Hammer.

zz susan.jpg

Susansamantha submitted this photo of Kirby and Li’l Dixie snuggling on a cold winter’s night. Looks like there will be a lot of that this weekend. Yay!!! Global cooling.

zz cst.jpg

Naarah submitted this photo of her cat Caesar. She didn't say much. Looks like a cat who knows how to snuggle.

zzlaura gibson.jpg

This is Cookie, a terrorist inquisitive dog owned by Laura.

baxter.jpg

Lurker J4140 story about Baxter, " Been a lurker for a long time and love your site. The wonderful, funny comments here have gotten me through some difficult times. Never ever commented myself. Baxter is a wire haired fox terrier. He loves to chase leafs, roll in smelly stuff, and pose for pictures. Love this puppy"

15 That's one cat who is angry, about something.

Our young tomcat gets angry when I get into bed for the night. He wants to bite my arm, or sometimes leg, and will hold on with his front legs, but doesn't bite hard. And he will knead the bed, with both front and back legs. It's as if he knows he's not really supposed to bite, and he's trying not to bite, but he's definitely angry.

The wife can sometimes distract him.

28 Early on on the pet thread two of my labs were pictured. Some might remember two black labs in the snow. Right now my wife and I live in two different states and Wednesday she was driving here for the weekend with the dogs. One of them started acting very sick on the way. When the dog was no better a couple of hours after arriving we ended up taking her (the dog) to the emergency vet. Long story short we brought her home a couple of hours ago to recover from the surgery she had yesterday to remove a bleeding tumor in her abdomen.

36 I'm so glad this thread came up before I left for the rest of the day, for selfish reasons.

We took Cat the Younger to the vet yesterday afternoon for routine vaccinations. He hadn't eaten all day, and we came across a weird throw-up which thankfully we took with us. Turns out he probably won't eat again. Three hours of tests and X-rays make cancer the most likely, but it doesn't matter, he's too far along to be treated for whatever. He was throwing up stomach tissue.

He's 12. He's a wise guy, an imp of Satan, an attacker of yarn, hands, Cat the Elder. He's a singer and a yodeler. Sometimes I can even get him to change key by singing back to him. He has such a long tail that when he chases it, he catches it and falls off wherever he's perched.

He came to us from a construction site. The rest of the litter was dead, Mom was dead, he was yodeling loud enough to be heard. He fit in a teacup, very near death.

I can't bear that he was starving to death when he came to us and now he can't eat so he's starving to death again.

Not cheerful, I'm afraid, but I needed to put it out there amongst people who have been there. Thanks for letting me.

I'm sorry to hear about that. If it helps assuage any "I should have noticed sooner" feelings, cats are masters at concealing any illness. About ten years ago I came downstairs one morning after Katya had been playing a little hide-and-seek game for a week, and she was stone cold dead. Except when I picked her up, she wheezed and fluttered her eyes a little. I got her to the local university's vet clinic, and both her kidneys were wrecked, all they could do was put her on life support and then euthanize.

47 Thank you for a great thread.

Yes, I get my dogs and cat Christmas presents-they have stockings hung with ours. The Newf and the German Shepherd take it in turns to watch the stockings-because Santa Paws might sneak something in when they aren't looking.

The Newf also barks at and herds us to the stocking to get it for him. He loves Christmas. Because it means the stocking has treats he gets to enjoy.

Hope you are all well

Posted by: m at December 10, 2016 04:24 PM (3jGss)

I adopted Vanya about 10 years ago, and he was always really shy. It didn't help that his housemate Misha was the kind of playful kitten who doesn't know when playtime is over. Vanya might have been abused or otherwise traumatized in the past. Misha went to live with my parents, and Vanya spent about 4 years hiding in rubbermaid bins in the basement or closets or under the couch, coming out occasionally for food and water and the litter box and to meyowl sorrowfully about the injustice of everything. Very emo kitty. You can also see in the couch picture that gouge on his brow; he has a habit of kicking divots out of himself because of emotional issues.

I was at the Petco back in April and a local rescue organization was doing an adoption (http://midmichigancatrescue.org/). I told one of the volunteers about Vanya, and they said that Lydia was good with the shy cats at the foster homes, so I adopted her kind of on the spur of the moment. It turns out she is really good about that; instead of sleeping behind the water heater, Vanya is now sacked out on the couch, and they cuddle and snuggle and make loud slurping sounds all the time. Mom said she's like a nurse for him.

129 12, Furious George, take a 6-count muffin tin, or more if you are willing to buy more tennis balls. Put some treats or just kibble in some random pits. Cover all pits with tennis balls and wait for puppy to figure out where the treats are. If puppy starts being methodical about this by removing tennis balls one at a time left to right, I'd run away as doggie is clearly ready, willing, and able for world domination.

If possible, it it seems to easy, put the tennis balls back as soon as doggie has removed them.

Whatever you get for doggie, make it a puzzle that requires some pawish dexterity to solve as that will also slow doggie down.

142 We took Cat the Younger to the vet yesterday
afternoon for routine vaccinations. He hadn't eaten all day, and we came
across a weird throw-up which thankfully we took with us. Turns out he
probably won't eat again. Three hours of tests and X-rays make cancer
the most likely, but it doesn't matter, he's too far along to be treated
for whatever. He was throwing up stomach tissue.

He's 12. He's a wise guy, an imp of Satan, an attacker of yarn,
hands, Cat the Elder. He's a singer and a yodeler. Sometimes I can even
get him to change key by singing back to him. He has such a long tail
that when he chases it, he catches it and falls off wherever he's
perched.

He came to us from a construction site. The rest of the litter was
dead, Mom was dead, he was yodeling loud enough to be heard. He fit in a
teacup, very near death.

I can't bear that he was starving to death when he came to us and now he can't eat so he's starving to death again.

Not cheerful, I'm afraid, but I needed to put it out there amongst people who have been there. Thanks for letting me.

170 Actually I think the chess thread is also open, but the chess people are pretty focused so I try and avoid cluttering it up with my inane bs too early!

Posted by: Weasel at December 10, 2016 07:32 PM (Sfs6o)

171 Ben Had,
I've only had the pleasure of meeting 3 or 4 Morons in meatspace (always one on one), but I've never been disappointed.

Beeakfast, lunch, drinks, whatever - always a treat.
It really is a great bunch. I look forward to meeting anyone silly enough to meet up with me again soon.
I'm planning a trip to NoVa in the next few months, and would love to meet some of the many hordelings from the area while I'm there.

Posted by: Chi - #FreeCthulhu at December 10, 2016 07:34 PM (o2Gxg)

172 Weasel, If someone one is hosting one just reply to them and commit to going. You will not regret it. I met a group of people that are as witty and genuine in real life as they are on this site. Free flowing discussion and humor were the bywords of the day. Most meet ups last about 3 hours. We were still strong at 8.

Posted by: Ben Had at December 10, 2016 07:39 PM (1P3On)

173 I hope to be one of them, Chi. I normally avoid the DC area like the plague, but meeting a Moron would be worth the stress.

Yes, I'm a talkative introvert.

Posted by: Miley, Duchess of the DSR at December 10, 2016 07:40 PM (tHwdc)

174 Chi, did you not come to Texas awhile back?

Posted by: Ben Had at December 10, 2016 07:42 PM (1P3On)

175 btw, in my mind I pronounce "Chi" like the Greek letter X. Did I guess right?

Posted by: Miley, Duchess of the DSR at December 10, 2016 07:43 PM (tHwdc)

176 Miley, the people that you have chosen to respond to, in my experience really are those people .

Posted by: Ben Had at December 10, 2016 07:47 PM (1P3On)

177 Oh, I'd definitely go! I just figured out what was going on kind of late - seems like that was a couple of years ago at least!
Chi - let us know when you will be in NoVa.

Posted by: Weasel at December 10, 2016 07:53 PM (Sfs6o)

178 I always take people at face value. It's a courtesy I like to extend.

That being said, I'm a blend of hermit and crazy person. I've even dated people I met on the internet. I usually tell them "If you're going to kill me, please make sure my body is never found."

So far, so good.

Posted by: Miley, Duchess of the DSR at December 10, 2016 07:55 PM (tHwdc)

179 I met No Good Deed and we went to the range which was fun!

Posted by: Weasel at December 10, 2016 07:57 PM (Sfs6o)

180 Hard to hide bodies on the range.

Posted by: Miley, Duchess of the DSR at December 10, 2016 07:59 PM (tHwdc)

181 True! Plus, too many witnesses. And I'm pretty sure I'd make the worst criminal, ever.

Posted by: Weasel at December 10, 2016 08:01 PM (Sfs6o)

182 Miley, two of my customers met on the internet and have now been married for 10+ years. When I hung my email address out for the world I was ready to expect the worst and it never happened. We travel in good company here. Have you met JackStraw?

Posted by: Ben Had at December 10, 2016 08:03 PM (1P3On)

183 I haven't met any morons, although I've corresponded with Mis. Hum.

Never met any marriage prospects on the 'net, although I did date the weird dentist for a couple of years. His daughter was afraid I would meet him at the airport with my "henchmen" and rob him and leave him dead on the street.

I'm like, "Hey, you're the murderer, not me!"

Posted by: Miley, Duchess of the DSR at December 10, 2016 08:07 PM (tHwdc)

184 Yes I did, Ben. I spent a week with a lovely, beautiful 'ette - just about a year ago.
Wanted to meet Jim & Lauren & a dozen other's, but that wasn't in the cards. I'll make it down again one day - possibly for your next meetup?
I get the feeling that it was a real blast.

Weasel,
I have about as much pull around here as a piece of dental floss. But I'd be happy to try. I am nothing if not annoying and persistent.
I can't imagine you were banned with cause - an autoban I assume?
Send me your IP addy, I'll see what I can do. I have a few CoB email addys, and as soon as I see cth post tonight, I have to amend my nic. (And, send me that pic of weaseldog!)

F tucker fish at the gee youknowtherest

Miley -
You are one of my favorites here. Seriously.
I would love to buy you a cup of coffee or a box of wine! (Or both?)
I don't have big plans. Just haven't visited Dad at Arlington in a few years and I have been feeling the need to.
One way or another, I will be there between April & June 28th.
It would be awesome to meet up with you. weasel, bluebell, moki, uh - let me stop before I post a wall of text and also forget 100 cool Morons...
I'm willing to go anywhere outside of DC. (How far is Leesburg?)

And no. I am not trying to organize a MoMe - just looking to meet a few awesome peeps & put faces to names. An informal "hey! Are you a friend of Abe?"
If it doesn't happen, Tucker and I can come home with our tails between our legs. Dejected, but no worse for wear.

Oh, and I used to post as "Shredded Chi" so that should tell you how I pronounce it

Posted by: Chi - #FreeCthulhu at December 10, 2016 08:10 PM (o2Gxg)

185 Besides, I don't even know any henchmen, and if I did, I can't afford them. All those payroll taxes, etc.

Posted by: Miley, Duchess of the DSR at December 10, 2016 08:11 PM (tHwdc)

186 Chi, I'm in Ashburn but I wouldn't expect you to come all the way out here! Some other Morons are closer to Alexandria and points east. Maybe we could find a convenient place (with parking, as opposed to DC) and a tavern to hang out in.

Coffee, wine, whatever it takes :-) And I like you, too.

"Shredded Chi" doesn't help me since I don't know what it is!

Posted by: Miley, Duchess of the DSR at December 10, 2016 08:17 PM (tHwdc)

187 Uh oh. Now I don't know my work IP. How embarrassing. And I'm not going to be back in the office for a couple of weeks. Oh well - thanks anyhow!

A little informal get together would be fun. I've corresponded with bluebell and she is very nice. I almost had a chance to meet her and Moki recently, but couldn't get out of a meeting when they met near my office.

I need to get over to Arlington to visit my dad, too. He's been gone now for 11 years on the 15th.

Posted by: Weasel at December 10, 2016 08:18 PM (Sfs6o)

188 Although if you DID come out here, it would be an excuse to cook. I haven't entertained since July.

Posted by: Miley, Duchess of the DSR at December 10, 2016 08:21 PM (tHwdc)

189 Chi, never turn down a lady that likes to cook.

Posted by: Ben Had at December 10, 2016 08:23 PM (1P3On)

190 Mr. Deplorable and I were big-time foodies. Nowadays I hardly bother. BUT! Once in awhile there's a great excuse. Do you happen to like mussels?

Posted by: Miley, Duchess of the DSR at December 10, 2016 08:26 PM (tHwdc)

191 Ok Chi - check your inbox!

Posted by: Weasel at December 10, 2016 08:29 PM (Sfs6o)

192 I like to think about April and onward. Winter will then be behind me.

Posted by: Miley, Duchess of the DSR at December 10, 2016 08:34 PM (tHwdc)

193 Looks like a plan, Weasel.
We meet at ANC, then drive out to Miley's for dinner.
I just hope she is a better cook than grammie winger!

Miley,
Chi (chee) is basically your "life force" or energy. Some conside it your soul.
I came up with "shredded chi" years ago while I was - get this - shredding cheese for dinner. I had just come back to the HQ after a few year hiatus & needed a name. Ex's kidlet actually came up with it.
(Peaches was the first to welcome me & laugh at my stupid jokes - I can remember the day!)

Obama was in office. Everything was wrong in my life. My Chi was shredded, so to speak...

It became just Chi a year ago or so. I'm pretty lazy, and also dumb. It's easier to spell.

194 Some kind of small meetup would be fun! Just as soon as I can walk again, that is.

Posted by: Weasel at December 10, 2016 08:41 PM (Sfs6o)

195 I can dig "chi" - I had a book on feng shui for cats, which is where I learned about it.

Since grammie essentially brags about her deadly cuisine, I can assure you that I am :-)

196 Such a frickin' awesome weekend on my end. Thanks to you guys.

Cooth is uncaged, I just got pics of puppies in my email (Hi, T & Jules!), a possibility of meeting a few more cool smart people soon, a lovely pic of my niece - pregnant again?!? I was in the delivery room when you entered the world!).
Life could be worse, I guess.

But yeah, I'm an easy lay, if that's what you mean. I have pretty low standards.
Of course, you would have to as well...

(should I leave Weasel in Arlington?)

Posted by: Chi - #FreeCthulhu at December 10, 2016 09:10 PM (ez4la)

204 Yes, I'm an idiot. I know this.
You don't have to waste the energy it takes to type that.

Posted by: Chi - #FreeCthulhu at December 10, 2016 09:14 PM (ez4la)

205 Does this mean I don't get dinner?

Posted by: Weasel at December 10, 2016 09:17 PM (Sfs6o)

206 I'm not a total asshole, Weasel. I'd leave you with a fiver for McDonald's & an Uber ride home.
I'm a giver like that.

Posted by: Chi - #FreeCthulhu at December 10, 2016 09:20 PM (ez4la)

207 Well - that sounds fair I guess. And maybe a chew toy for you know who.

Posted by: Weasel at December 10, 2016 09:30 PM (Sfs6o)

208 Apparently, I crossed the line & killed the Pet Thread with dumb jokes. Sorry.

Still curious what LA means.
Louisiana?
Los Angeles?
Pet Thread, so - Lhaso Apso?

I'm down with any of the above, btw.
Like I said - low standards...

--------------

A) Read the last two lines on the thread (just under that pic of Baxter).
Then have a little patience - I understand that there is a backlog of awesome pet pics.

B) He/she/xe will be AoS famous soon enough. Be prepared for Internet fame, as this thread is world renowned, and will make your pet a star.

Actually, I was referring to your hash - ez4la. Although maybe "easy for lay" is how it should be read! LOL!

214 I wandered over to another thread, didn't mean to leave you burning with - what, curiosity? Yeah, that's a word!
